Good location near Byward Market and lots of other attractions — National Art Gallery, Ottawa Art Gallery, Canadian Mint, Parliament is a short walk away and major museums are just a short drive. Also close to plenty of restaurants and shops. Comfortable, clean, nice staff. Just watch out for your room. There are some odd configurations. Our initial room had a TV that faced another wall in an awkward spot — really not ideal if you want to catch the news in bed or if the kids want to watch cartoons etc.

Nice lobby. We were just here to meet a friend, but they have a range of seating and a few nice computer kiosks. There is also a restaurant which looked quite popular. Good location, right near the market.

Canada Day weekend. Car vandalized and items stolen while parked in the garage. No security present on Monday because of holiday. The desk staff and maintenance were polite and helpful. Someone smoking in the hallway outside our room the first night. The other two nights were quiet. OK room. Awkward shower handle sprayer. Good location.

Decent hotel for frequent travellers or those on a budget. Location: located near many local amenities, such as the ByWard Market, Shopping Centres and the Parliament Buildings. Getting in and out of the hotel can be tricky, due to the lack of nearby parking. Valet and drop off area is also small, so plan accordingly. Rooms: The rooms are decent, with a reasonable amount of space and cleanliness. There were some bodily fluids found on the furniture (armchair) so do beware of such annoyances. The bathrooms are decent, although the toilets could use some cleaning. Services: Service here is good, but nothing extraordinary or outstanding.

5 stat for sure. Perfect location across form Rideau centre/Shaw centre. Comfy room. Amazing customer service. I booked one night through a 3rd party site and it got complicated but they made it work even before I arrived. I reserved the second night directly w them and they went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied (jasmine! ). Each staff remembered me and was friendly and kind. Love the alibi restaurant on site. Great and friendly serving staff. Definitely will stay there again.

Great location. Modern, renovated rooms, maybe a bit on a smaller size. Very nice breakfast. Their parking was full when we arrived, so we used one across the road, the Mall's one. Overall good experience.

Amazing experience! Great location, modern interior design, and the hotel is equiped with Mac computers in the lobby for guests, a swimming pool and a gym. Staff is friendly and professional, and the complimentary treat was a plus. I fully recommend to anyone!

Great price for the location. However, the rooms definitely need an update. Elevator lobby felt very dark compared to other hotels. Room was clean and well prepped otherwise!

Nice spot. The renovated rooms are beautiful. The gym isn't bad. I never got a chance to try the in house resto. BUT it was always crowded in the evening around supper. That might say something. The service here is awesome. Any problem I ever had, was fixed in no time with minimal effort. Thanks for the cozy stay guys.

I went to this hotel to several repossession service is always impeccable the pool and the gym on condition renovated may test breakfast for the first time this year and I was totally seduced.

Great hotel, great location near Byward Market and Art Gallery. Very nice and friendly staff. They put us on the eighth floor when we asked for a better view. We booked ours with free breakfast which turned out to be a great decision. My wife and I just filled up at the breakfast buffet to skip lunch and have an early dinner while we were visiting Ottawa for 3 days. Rooms are clean and looks newly renovated. Only issue we found was at this time, the heating makes our skin really dry. They could have included body lotion in the bath amenities. Overall it was a great stay and will definitely be back!

It was a nice, clean hotel, but a little disappointing that for the price neither parking nor breakfast was included. Our decision to stay there was last-minute (we opted to not drive back to Toronto that night) and so we checked in late. Unfortunately, four hours into our stay, we had to evacuate the building for a fire emergency. We decided to check out of the hotel altogether and head home. During checkout, my partner inquired as to whether anything could be done for the inconvenience. Neither of us were really expecting anything at this point, but felt it was worth asking, since we only stayed there for a few hours. What we got from the manager on duty, however, was a condescending speech about how she understood that “we checked in late” but no discounts were to be given. Maybe we shouldn’t have asked, but coming from a manager in a service world, I expected a better response from her. That coloured my entire experience.

Great location right beside the Rideau Centre, ByWard Market, and the downtown core of Ottawa. The hotel has an in-house restaurant and bar, and there are a plethora of decent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms are comfy and clean, the hospitality is good, and the location is great.

Cheap and central Hotel. Two steps from Zara and three from the Parliament Hill.

Stayed here a number of times since the 90's. Its always been a very clean and organized place if a little underwhelming but I'm ok with this! Prices are typical and service is very good here. Also a quiet hotel at night which I appreciate.

Decent rooms clean and well located. Shower head was a bit odd as in would point straight at you not an angle. Otherwise no complaints.

Great service. Clean rooms. No USB port in my room to charge phone. And no plugs near the bed. Which I found odd. Great location though.

Very nice hotel! You expect it for the price. We were on the top floor in a newly renovated room with free breakfast. It cost a good dollar but it was worth the extra for the breakfast. We are particular about paying for the continental breakfast because it's usually a cheap, cold breakfast offered to the guests. But at novotel, they had options for all kinds. There was bacon, sausages, hash browns, boiled eggs and scrambled eggs. We also were offered the option for any kinds of eggs requested to the kitchen. There was meat and cheese, yogurt, cereal, bread, delicious pastries, muffins, crossiants, dried fruit, fresh fruit, juice, 10 or more different kinds of steeped tea and coffee! Amazing selections! We ordered room service the first night we got there and the food was delicious. Fairly cheap too.

Amazing stay. Room was spacious and clean, and we had the hot buffet breakfast the next morning at the hotel restaurant which was incredible. Not at all like a usual buffet breakfast.

Honestly it must be one of the best restaurants in Ottawa.

This is an older building that has been given a variety of mostly cosmetic upgrades. It's clean and well maintained. The age is apparent in the absence of charging stations and electrical sockets in the rooms. I also noticed that most of the lighting is from lamps and that these aren't connected to wall switches. It means you walk the perimeter of the room to switch the lights. I found this kind of odd and inconvenient. The mattress and bedding are plush and comfortable. Not, "oh wow" but suitable for the price of the room and the stature of the brand. Be prepared for early morning car noise if facing street side The Albion restaurant/lounge is amazing. The food and the cocktails are creative, tasty and well presented. There are for distinct areas that offer different atmospheres but the same menu. This is a great place to have a drink (the Ceasar is like an appetizer and has both amazing flavor and mouth feel.

The hotel service is very good. The location is great, it's right across from the Rideau center and the Shaw center. Being downtown, it can get bit noisy. It's the second time we stay at the Novotel. Overall I'm very pleased with our stay.

Very clean room, very interesting menus as much for lunch as for lunch. It is however not easy to find the landmarks for the lift and exit when parked in the indoor parking lot. Very helpful staff. I would recommend this hotel.

Fantastic location, comfortable bed and room. Clean and well maintained. Breakfast good. Staff very friendly and helpful. I especially loved the woman cleaning on our floor (6th) who sang all the time she was working!

Initially we had been put into a room with some spiderwebs and was a little dusty. The front desk changed rooms for us and it was a bit better. Service here is very good. Would only recommend staying here if you get one of the newly renovated rooms. Very good location.

A tiny room with a small window was originally proposed while I was asking for a room away from the elevator (which was not the case). Then the room obtained with 2 double beds had a dirty stocking that was lying on the ground. I expected better considering the 4 stars (the Deco is obsolete).

Stayed there for one night. Bedroom was small but cozy as expected. Indoor pool was slightly colder than expected but the 104°F hot tub was excellent. Gym had everything and more. Staff was extremely friendly and delightful. A very positive experience.

Well located, not very clean (bathroom dirty and covered the drain of the tub) and attentive staff. The room overlooking the avenue was noisy.

My husband and I stayed for our wedding anniversary. We loved our stay and definitely will return. We stayed in a next generation king and it was the perfect size, giving us the king bed plus a sitting area, great for having our late night pizza take out. The room and hotel was clean, lovely lounge in the lobby and staff are very friendly. My one complaint was that cleaning staff was too early, not even 10Am yet when she showed up.

We had a group of about 10 rooms and we all enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a great location and is staffed with very friendly and helpful people. The rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. We made good use of the swimming pool and gym too! The only request I would have for next time is if our group rooms could be situated closer together in one section that would have made it even better :) We would definitely book at Novotel Ottawa again!

It was fine, but I cannot pronounce myself very much having spent only one night and having not used any of the services. I had a little billing problem, but it was quickly settled to my satisfaction. And the hotel is very well placed to visit Ottawa on foot.

Good business hotel. Rooms are well equipped with free Wi-Fi, safes and small fridges as well as SMART TVs. Parking is an issue because parking garage is shared with Suites Hotel next door. Pool and hot tub are also shared with Suites Hotel and are often filled with children. Location is excellent for shopping, dining and attractions and some meeting space is offered as well. Good hotel overall based on the location. Common areas could use more cleaning.

It was comfortable almost homey and everyone was welcoming and helpful. The restaurant was excellent! Had a wonderful meal and late night snack. It was a short visit to Ottawa but we had a nice time and the hotel made it effortless both in checking in and checking out! Thanks for a lovely although brief experience.

Great location to down town shopping mall and farmers market. Staff was amazing, friendly and accommodating with all needs. Rooms were great, very clean. Housekeeping called our room to check if we wanted turn down service as we put the do not disturbed on door. Great customer service. Parking garage in hotel makes things quick and easy for travel. The restaurant in the hotel itself was great, good food with friendly staff but the main dishes were a bit over priced. $22-32 is the average price per main. Great hotel overall will stay here again.

I really like my stay, my bed was really comfortable. I slept like an angel especially since I had a long day of work waiting for me.

Very disappointed. We arrived at 8 pm to breakfast trays on the floor in the hall. TV worked sometimes. The mini fridge was just a cooler. Needed ice. The small musty room was so full of dust my eyes ran the entire time I was here, so did the toilet. I reported my concerns the day after we arrived. No response. Not even a new battery for the TV remote. This is absolutely a no frills, poorly maintained building. No shower gel, hand cream, shower cap. Bring your own pillows if you want a firm pillow. I only put reviews on if I am either very impressed or very disappointed. This one one was terrible. And don't think if you open the window to get fresh air it will help. The noise, sirens will keep you up all night. I am not coming back, would suggest anyone think twice and look around for a better place.

Great hotel, great location. Rooms are really tidy and in really good condition. Breakfast was great; I was a big fan of the granola with some yoghurt, which really set me up for the day. If I were to return, I would definitely stay here; would thoroughly recommend!

Its a pretty bad experience. We reserved a room for double bed that fits for four people, reception told us theres no room available when we arrived at 3pm (check in time) and ask if we are ok with a one double bed room. Its already not acceptable when you dont have a room ready for us and I have no idea why is the reception have such a idiot thought we will take a one double bed instead for a two double bed regular price?! so we need to go out and back in half an hour for available rooms. (we didnt go to other hotel since we booked already and its a holiday) theres no welcome smiling … didnt give out any info for travellers.

This hotel gave a terrific lesson in how not to handle customer service. We were in Ottawa to run the marathon and for our anniversary. We booked two nights in a junior suite via Expedia and paid for it in advance. But when we checked in, we we told the hotel had sold all the junior suites and we would have to do with a regular room. I asked about a refund, and they told me that was not their business. I should take it up with Expedia. Mistakes like this can happen. A good hotel would have apologized profusely, sorted out the refund themselves with Expedia, made sure we stayed in the suite (even an upgraded one) the second night, and offered something by way of apology (vase of flowers, coupon for drinks in the bar). Novotel barely bothered to apologize, blamed the problem on the computer system (the lame excuse of every bad service provider), and said there was no manager on duty I could speak to. I spent half the evening on the phone with Expedia (who handled the complaint well btw). No manager contacted me the next day to apologize. I work in the service industry too, and this sort of slack service would not be tolerated in my firm. And isn't it fraud to sell something to a customer, take their money up front, and then deliver a second-rate product in its place and refuse to arrange a refund? Imagine if Amazon did that. Apart from the problem, this is a fairly standard four star hotel. Location is OK, carpets and lobby area are grubby, room facilities sub-standard.

Excellent, centrally-located hotel in the downtown core of Ottawa. Walking distance to most things, and across the road from the Rideau Centre. The rooms were fantastic, but the previous tenants garbage was still in the can, and their key was still on the desk. The staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating and really helped to enhance our stay. I would definitely stay there again. Didn't get a chance to check out the pool or gym.

This hotel has a great location, less than 10min walk to byward market. The staff was very friendly. Rooms are good, clean and cozy (small but it does not bother me specially with a low price)

Location is great and staff was friendly. However room was seriously annoying and full of statics. We had to make the staff correct some overcharges out of nowhere and the prices are just ridiculous. Not Novotel-like.

I always stay (if possible) at the novotel in Ottawa. The rooms are always clean and modern. The ones on the 7th floor are recently renovated. The hotel bar, the Albion Rooms, has a great selection of cocktails and beers. The menu is pricey but good.

The room was modern and clean and the form mattress was very comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is also walking distance to many restaurants which allowed us to leave the car in the underground parking and go out for breakfast, dinner, etc…

Lovely employees at the front desk. Nice rooms. Great central area location near Parliament Buildings, shopping and bars and restaurants. Be aware that the area does have a lot of people begging for money and some sketchy people but it's a highly traveled and populated are as well so I was never afraid. All in all, it was a great experience.

Sorry, but I was disappointed with my overall Stay. Apparently the hotel was "renovated" but the room didn't seemed to have anything done to it, carpets looked old, bed mattress was hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. For the price we paid breakfast was not included nor was parking. The parking lot was a nightmare, there was no elevator besides the first two floors we had to log two kids and a stroller together with our bags up a stairwell, that was no fun. Staff seems friendly, halls and room seemed clean but not updated. I don't think I would be encouraged to stay there again : (

Our experience was great, lobby workers were great and friendly and room was clean and beautiful. I also liked the pool and Jacuzzi section.

It is a nice room. Small and the bathroom doors are really small. No place to put your shampoo and condition so on the floor of the walk in shower. Bed is comfy but beware. Maids come knocking around 8 am and continue till you finally leave. Even on day of checkout I had a maid come at 9 am. Not impressed with that on my vacation. Also no fridge just a really expensive minibar. I personally wouldn't stay here again.

Internet speed is comparable to dial up. Maids do a below average job at cleaning/preparing rooms. The lobby is swanky though.

We stayed at the hotel on Oct. 21, 2013. We had a lovely executive room, which was nicely decorated, very functional and clean. We had drinks and snacks in the hotel's lobby bar, The Albion Rooms and that was wonderful. Not the typical hotel bar for sure. Their Charcuterie Board and the deep-fried, blue-cheese stuffed olives were delicious! And they have Beau's Beer on tap.

Stayed here for a week while househunting in Ottawa. Free wireless internet (both wired and wireless internet available in the rooms as well) in the hotel was great to look at listings. Front desk staff are helpful in both official languages (and many others! ) and are willing to go the extra mile for their guests.

Wide room and large bed. Good rates without breakfast. Near parking not included, but lower than others. Reception very kindly. Swimmingpool too.

Overall the hotel is not bad. Close to many shops, cafes, boutiques and supermarkets. Room in the hotel is excellent Russian none of the staff spoke. If you don't know English, you can half-day to ask something, anything will do. Great location and facilities. Many diverse food of the European level. Fruit, snacks, yoghurts, pastries — all big and delicious meal.
