Canalta Lodge Banff

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! My wife and I stayed there in June. The location was great. Located just as you enter downtown Banff. Near a Roam transit stop. Given passes for the Roam transit for our entire stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. Didn’t have to pay for parking because there was street parking behind the hotel. The room was exactly what we needed. Bathroom was a little small but not a game changer. Breakfast was available every morning. A great hot meal, danishes, pancakes, yogurt, bagels, and more. Saving money on parking and breakfast was a plus for our trip. The S’mores every night were a great way to end the day. The decor was great! I will highly recommend the lodge to anyone. We would stay there again if given the chance to visit Banff again.

When you’re on an epic ski trip you’re not in your room for very long, so you want something economical but with the amenities you need after a tiring day on the mountain. This place has it all! Awesome breakfast, sweet hot tubs and cold plunge, great ambiance, and comfortable rooms. All for a very reasonable price. The best place to stay in Banff! Hotel staff was very nice and accommodating as well.

We truly appreciated the warm service and hospitality at Canalta Lodge. The rooms are cozy, clean, and very comfortable. The outdoor hot tubs are a fantastic touch, especially after a day exploring Banff and the surrounding areas. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. We would happily return!

Our family of 4 stayed at Canalta in February for a ski trip. Our stay was perfect! We booked the king loft with pull out bed — it very spacious and we loved having two bathrooms, a fireplace and a kitchenette. The room and entire hotel was extremely clean. The breakfast buffet was good and filling before a long day of skiing. Our teens loved the s'mores happy hour and we all enjoyed the hot tub. Everyone who worked at Canalta was so friendly — even our teenage boys commented on how nice everyone was! We can't wait to come back!

We had a large and diverse group book 8+ rooms. We all were impressed by superb staff and nice accommodations. Rooms were clean and had everything we required. Hot tubs, cold plunge, and sauna were nice. Free smores. It currently (Feb 2026) is the first ski shuttle stop both going to and from the resorts so there always was room on the bus in the morning. Breakfast was good — my only critique is to change up the options a bit every day or two.

The purpose of our stay was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed for a couple of nights.
When the staff understood the purpose of our visit, they upgraded us to a loft room. They also left us a bottle of wine and chocolates. We highly appreciate the attention and courtesy.
The location of the hotel is OK. In the winter at minus 15 it seems a bit far to walk downtown. OF course you can drive or take the bus. There is underground heated parking for people that drove in. The hotel has interesting architecture with different types of rooms. It is new or recently fully renovated and very clean. In the courtyard there are two hot tubs and a sauna. Breakfast was very good with different options.
We thank the hotel staff again for the fantastic experience.

I stayed in the Canalta with my family for 6 nights over the 2025/2026 New Year. We had a family room with 3 double beds, which worked well for us. The room had a kitchen with microwave, kettle, cutlery, plates and cups which was great. It also had a sofa and a kitchen-style table with chairs around it. Great for sharing meals and playing board games.
The hotel has a lot of good things about it, front desk people and other employees are very friendly, we got free underground parking for being a member with the Canalta loyalty programme, and we got 2 free lockers to use for our skis. The buffet breakfast that was included in the price didn't have a huge choice, but it was just fine. Another fun thing was the free smores roasting every afternoon, and the large collection of board games available to play free of charge.
Having said that, the hotel is one of the furthest out of town. It's still on Banff Avenue, so you can walk to the town centre, but it's a good 15 minute walk.
The room that we had was quite dark, with one window in the corner which was itself in a corner with a bit of shade of the hotel building itself. The short days of winter obviously made the effect stronger, and other rooms in the hotel might be lighter, but we thought our room was dark.
Another comment is that we found the lounge area (which is also used as the breakfast area) feeling a bit industrial.

We had a wonderful stay at Canalta Lodge during our time in Banff and would absolutely recommend it—especially for families or travelers looking for comfort, convenience, and a welcoming atmosphere.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and perfectly adequate for our needs. While not overly luxurious, they were well-maintained and exactly what you want after long days exploring the mountains. One major highlight—especially in negative-degree temperatures—was the underground heated parking, which made coming and going incredibly easy and stress-free in winter conditions.
The hotel is clearly geared toward families and does a great job accommodating them. The lobby features a cozy gathering space where families can relax, play games, and unwind together, which created a warm, communal feel. There’s also a small bar area where you can grab drinks and simple snacks like nachos—perfect for a low-key evening in.
Location-wise, it’s hard to beat. The lodge is just a 5–10 minute walk to downtown Banff, making it easy to enjoy shops, restaurants, and the town vibe without needing to drive. Breakfast each morning was filling and well-organized, setting us up nicely for full days of adventuring. For skiers, the availability of a ski bus right at the hotel is a fantastic perk.
What truly stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful.

The room we stayed in was very quiet and clean. The front desk staff were fabulous and helped with providing bus tickets to get us to the Fairmont for our dinner reso. Before dinner we had a few cocktails in the lounge at the hotel and watched folks enjoying the smores and hot tub. Cocktail list was great and had a few nice seaonal choices for Christmas. All encounters with the staff were polite, efficient and professional. 10/10 for everything.

I was quite pleased with the cleanliness of the lobby and rooms. I could almost forget that I was in a hotel bed and not my own. Location was great. The staff were great, especially John who helped every day at breakfast.
My only quibble would be that some more variety between the breakfasts each day would be good. But the food was still fresh and tasty. And they had a cool pancake machine. Again I am 100 percent satisfied with the experience and would recommend without hesitation. I was truly sad to leave.

Our favorite place to stay when visiting Banff. It is located a 17 minute walk from the center of town. The rooms are clean, comfortable beds and great pillows. They have a buffet breakfast included with lots of options — eggs sausage potatoes yogurt cereal oatmeal and pancakes. They also have a bar on site. Free smores from 4-7pm. Hot tubs and free parking available on the back side of the hotel. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Omg! What a fabulous hotel/lodge. Just wonderful from front desk staff to breakfast staff. Which breakfast was delicious and such a variety. Everyone so very helpful and pleasant. Love the outdoor area and so beautiful. Rooms are very nice and beds sooo comfortable. The location was very walkable to downtown. We will be back for sure and highly recommend staying here. Thanks to everyone for making our trip so enjoyable.

Just 15-20 min walking to downtown, it is well located. Room is confortable, as the bathroom. Bathroom is a little dark and could be better illuminated. Service is fine on reception and breakfast. Breakfast is complete with all you need. If you are by car, lots of free public park on the back street.

20min walk from downtown, the rooms are lovely and spacious, beds are large and comfortable. Hot pools are great in winter, smores at happy hour are such a great touch. I did have an incident with key cards not working and the staff acadently walked in on me changeing but they apologized and gave a discount which was super kind of then. Front desk was super accommodating and kind. I arrived early for check in so they gave me complimentary bus tickets to make my time exploreing town easier.
I loved it here would definitely stay again, if your looking for somewhere nice close to downtown Banff definitely recommend.

This hotel has everything you need for a perfect mountain stay. The rooms are spacious and set up to accommodate larger parties, the outdoor area has a relaxing Nordic spa vibe. But the continental breakfast was a real highlight of our visit this time.
I especially want to mention the breakfast attendant, Bradley, who went above and beyond to make our morning great. At most hotels, staff start clearing things out before closing, which has always seemed odd to me since that’s when most people finally make it down for breakfast. Not Bradley — he was kind, attentive, and kept everything fresh and available right up until 10. He restocked the yogurt, potatoes, and even brought out fresh berries for the pancakes without hesitation despite there only being a few moments left, all with a smile on his face.
Those little details and that level of care are what elevate the whole hotel experience. Thank you to the entire team for being professional and friendly, but a special shoutout to Bradley, you made our stay that much better for our whole crew.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on our anniversary trip to the Canadian Rockies. We loved the location and amenities of the hotel. Great location. Check in was easy and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Our king room with a balcony was spacious for the two of us. The room was clean and bedding comfortable. Would definitely recommend this property and would stay here again if we ever get to come back this way again.
