Reviews of Collegian Hotel & Suites, Trademark Collection 3*
We experience heating issues, plumbing issues and room service. We were relocate and found the same problem. House cleaning is on the 3rd day of check in and I borrowed a heater from my daughters home.
I teamed up with Collegian Hotel to coordinate a wedding for a special couple. Their staff was so friendly and accommodating. The room was beautiful! The food was amazing! The couple and the guests had a wonderful time! Thank you to Mitch, Lauren, Ted, Steve and the rest of your team! Utano Event & Wedding Planning.
The stay was great but it was me and my 25th anniversary this place don’t stay me an my wife stayed they charged my credit card without us even checked falsely stated that the cleaning guy saw smoke coming from the room which was false this is a scam they must do this to certain customers so please be careful and when confronted they all lie and stick together when asked why didn’t someone say something why didn’t the camera see all this smoke they said n the statement this the only way to get quick money from ppl I have 16 kids we thought staying here was a good idea it was horrible idea for us to wake up and your money is be taking from you and you haven’t even checked out or nobody has been to even check the room so be careful they want money from innocent ppl this us a terrible thing to ppl and to falsely accused them of accusations they they have no proof of.
Wonderful space, food, service and drinks.
Great room and great front desk service.
Never had our rooms serviced for the 5 nights, we were there. Always had to request towels.
I had a problem
With my room, Rosa changed me from
That room and gave me
Another one. Even though they were booked because of the game. The bathroom is a bit moldy, the employees are really nice.
We tried to stay here at the Collegian this past weekend to attend the fair and also do some birthday activities for my daughter. They are completely infested with Bed Bugs! We tried multiple rooms, and they all had them. We were not the only people having this issue either! Another family was at the desk reporting the same in their room. We both had photos and videos! I feel horrible because a high school football team was staying at the same time and seemed to have a lot of people in their group…. It’s irresponsible to not have people check when they know they are infested. WARNING! If you have stayed here recently, keep an eye out! We were there 9/2/2001. (They tried to tell us they weren’t bed bugs, but we had the pictures looked at by a bug expert, and they are completely wrong. This is why it took me several days to post this. I didn’t want to say anything until I was sure! )
Very friendly staff, very accommodating, very clean. Highly recommend. I stayed 3 days and will stay again.
We have stayed at this hotel many times when it was called the Genesee Grande. We always had a great experience. This was the first time we stayed since taken over by Scholar and we will not be back. We had a King Kitchen Suite, very spacious but room was very dirty. No garbage bag in the kitchen trash can, found candy wrappers on the floor so obviously the floor was not cleaned, had to wear shoes because otherwise my feet were black due to the dirty floors. Upon inspection of the kitchen, the cupboards and drawers were very dirty. We ate several meals in our room and needed to use the dishes and silverware so I ran everything thru the dishwasher, including the silverware tray which was dirty. I brought Clorox wipes with me due to COVID as an extra precaution but certainly did not have enough to do the cleaning I needed to to feel completely safe and I certainly did not babe anything to clean the floors with. Our first night around 1130 PM, there was a party above our room that was so loud that our light over the dining room table was swinging because the floors were being pounded on and vibrating. I did call to the desk and someone was sent to quiet the room. Night 2, there was a smell coming thru the air conditioning vent, I was unable to figure out what the smell was and it disappeared by morning. The food from the hotel restaurant was good, but we called to order and 2 times no one answered even though we were calling during advertised hours.
Good service and safe, clean.
This is my 7 days here. We have been asking for room cleaning service but we never get that. The only thing we got is a clean towels (one time) that we have to ask for it twice. 2 days ago someone explain to me if I want my room clean I have to ask for it due to covid-19, which is understandable. So today I decided to go down to reception again and ask her if anyone could clean the room and give us clean sheets and towels. I also told her I will be out for two hours hopefully it will be enough to get someone in there (I stay out two hours because other lady suggest that on the day before). When I came back they just drop a bag of towels and bed sheets. They leave trash in the room, didn’t take dirty towels away and also didn’t change bed sheets for us. Like wth? After I see what they gave me I go down tell the same reception can you please send someone to clean the room not just drop things off like this. We have been here for a week and we just want our place to be clean. (past seven days I have to take the trash out my self and switch clean and dirty towels myself) You know what she said? She said, ‘sorry that’s not going to happen. We have a lots of guess that will be checking in today and I don’t think the cleaning lady can clean your room. She have to clean all of the other room first before she can clean yours. How about tomorrow? What time will be good for you. ’ I was like what! I wait two hours outside expecting to come back with a clean room.
Amy is awful I've never came across such a unprofessional women in my life. Housekeeping on the other hand were phenomenal very nice an accommodating.
The hotel is finishing up renovations on the restaurant and bar. The food is delicious and made fresh per order. Prices and selection are very reasonable at restaurant. The suites are the way to go! Spacious rooms, with coffee, mini fridge, safe, ironing and bathroom amenities. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Parking and checkin are easy.
It's very unique the staff was very friendly and the appetizers and the food were very tasty.
I'll never stay here again. My company paid for the room however the incompetent woman at the front desk charged me for the room anyway! $864.00 for a 5 day stay, not even worth it. No Continental breakfast and the room service cleaned every other day. The place is under construction, I hope they clean house and start all over with new personnel. Not worth the money at all, no wonder it’s. Not grand genesee anymore. It’s not grand at all!
Very disappointed this year with the Easter buffet with both quality of food and service.
Arrived at 2:55pm for a 3:00 reservation. Were seated at 3:10 and we were surprised to see the dining room only 1/3 full and the open tables set. Maybe it was due to the fact our table number was 13.
Our waitress took our drink orders and was not back until we asked for our check. Empty plates were taken by another waitress after we finished our dessert.
Prime rib was over cooked, everything was cold like chicken Riggies, macaroni and cheese and and items were not refilled such as strawberries, sliced deli meats, etc. Potatoes O’Brien were dried out and appeared to have been sitting for a very long time.
Buffet, tax, and tip added to the bill was just over $200.00.
The previous Mother’s Day buffets were very enjoyable but someone really dropped the ball this time.
Have been to Easter Brunch more than once in the past. Always great. This time… cold food, food not replenished timely, juices not included even for kids, ran out of coffee, below average service overall for cost etc. Can't recommend.
Worst experience we have had in the 6 years we have been coming. Every Easter & Mother’s Day Brunch.
Missing many items they had in the past. No self serve juices, poor quality of food & to top it off, we ordered 2 adult beverages & our 16 year old daughter was also served as well.
This unfortunately was our last visit.
Had a group brunch with an ever-increasing number of attendees, and the restaurant staff never complained. They really delivered! Kyle was our server, and was amazing — made sure everyone had fresh coffee, and anything else they needed. We ended up with a group of 15 women who were all impressed with the decor, ambience and food. Prices are on par for the experience $6-$12. Free parking was such a bonus.
Whether you come to Syracuse for business or pleasure, the Genesee Grand Hotel will be sure to accommodate your needs. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the internet was fast and the food was second to none. Located in the University district, one minute from downtown and close to major highways, the Genesee Grand is a great location for your next Syracuse trip!
Dumpy hotel with a misleading air of luxury at first glance. The general staff are very pleasant and try to be helpful, in addition to the location being really conveniently close to everything are the only reasons I gave 2 stars. My mother, my one year old, and I all stayed here for about a week. To start the rooms are small but that's not unreasonable. What got me was that the carpet was completely bare at the bathroom door (and sharp and poked a few times before our new favorite maintenance guy put some tape over it), most of the satellite TV channels listed on the supplied TV guide aren't actually available, we didn't have water for an entire evening (thank god my daughter already had a bath just prior to It going out), the parking is not reserved for hotel guests and we almost didn't have a place to park Saturday night due to a wedding (we got the last spot on the entire property) and there is no overflow parking, the cigarette disposal by the entrance has been overflowing since our 3rd day here. Less importantly but notable, Weekend housekeeping seemed to be pretty bad at making a bed but weekday housekeeping were fantastic so at least I have something nice to say. Overall I'm almost positive you could get a better hotel for your money elsewhere. Unless this hotel gets a serious overhaul don't bother staying here.
Esra at the front desk was amazing. She was professional, hospitable, and incredibly polite. My wife and I were staying here for a wedding and the wedding was a nightmare, however, Esra was very attentive and was the highlight of our trip. I highly recommend staying here. The service and the rest of the staff were fantastic.
While the common areas were nice, our first room smelled like marijuana and the second was rather plain. Bed and sheets were not comfortable, and transition strips were missing from bathroom to main room resulting in a small scrape on my wifes foot. Convenient for the wedding we were there for, but probably won't ever stay there again, considering the cost was comparable to larger chains. Interactions with staff were mixed, some great some surprising. 2 stars for some good experiences with staff and nice common areas.
Rating is for the conference facility and staff. Very nice space and theater — where I presented to an audience in the lower part of the building. However, before going on, I was wooed by one Jeff Goldblum playing the piano. No one else was there, so it was as if it was part of the hotel experience just for me. ;) Very cool, and FYI, the guy can jazzy jam on the keys. Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz.
This place was great. We loved it! Nice and cool in rooms, service was with a smile, it was a fair price, clean and I slept well in the beds. Also pet friendly! Yay!
Dinner at 1060 was great. We went for fathers day and the beer selection combined with the food choices was perfect; steak, chicken, fish. Expect a slightly more upscale dish for Syracuse without too high of a price tag.
Great place to stay. Clean quite and spacious. No pool but nice adult spot.
Very nice hotel with nice staff. Great location. My only complaint is that there is no in room coffee maker. As a functioning caffeine addict I would have appriciated this!
Probably closer to 4.5 stars. It was a really nice hotel, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and there is a restaurant in the hotel with decent food. Seemed reasonably priced.
Had an employee to show you open parking spots and the bar had mojitos (rare in Syracuse). Beautiful lobby and lounge area. We were there for an event but might go there just for a drink sometime.
Nice range of food options. Our meals were both very good. Service was attentive.
It is a very nice hotel but me and other people from my school had some problems with the food and the rooms.
Quick check in. Very comfortable bed, pillows and sheets. Unfortunately visit was too short to check out the bar. Lobby decor very nice.
Easter brunch buffet is always great. Service is horrible. Had to wait 30 mins for table after our reservation time. We had to flag down our waiter many times for plate removal of plates, coffee and cocktails. For 50 per person plus cocktails extra, I would expect better service.
Completely short-staffed. For the prices they charge, should be over-the-top service, and it wasn't. Checked in at 430 on a Friday, long wait, only ONE person working. He gave me keys that didn't work, I called the hotel operator — no one answers. I call housekeeping, no one answers! He gave me two replacement keys, only one worked. My kids wanted to rent movies, can't at this hotel. Location is great if visiting the University, and rooms were comfortable.
Beautiful decor. The food is great! The staff are very nice. No complaints.
The gentlemen at the check in were wonderful last night. Aaron the shuttle driver was also great. The gentleman bellhop that helped on Friday was very pleasant. Saturday night the other staff waitress ect. Were very unpleasant.
Consistently good service. I’ve held several small conferences there for clients and the staff has always been terrific as well as the food and overall experience. Have enjoyed lunch and dinner there (the outdoor patio in summer is beautiful! ) and enjoyed the beautiful bar and cocktail area as well. Welcoming main foyer entrance with beautiful koi, grand entrance, marble, etc. Rooms are well maintained and presented. Good value.
My room was easy to get to and the hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from the Syracuse campus. It was a great place to stay to tour the college. The only one problem is that one night there was an event at the hotel and no parking for the overnight guests. Otherwise it was nice.
Very cozy hotel. Great restaurant in lobby. Great staff. Very centric if visiting Upstate and Syracuse University.
I don't think my husband, guests, and I could say enough about our wedding and reception at the Genesee Grande Hotel. First, everything was seamless, the day of our wedding flew by without a hitch. Secondarily, the food and drink were incredible. We had our December 30th ceremony in the ballroom which was flipped over to hold all of the tables and food for the reception all during the cocktail hour. It was so beautiful. Working with Jamie throughout the planning process was easy. He's very enthusiastic, accommodating, and thorough, we were assured that everything we wanted would happen as we desired. Sheila handled most day-of things and she's a doll. Their experience was a huge help in catching things we hadn't thought of. The staff is genuine and super responsive. I will absolutely recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married in central NY.
We attended a formal event here. The food was phenomenal and the customer service was just as good. Would definitely recommend.
Good hotel. Beautiful building and pet friendly ($50 non-refundable pet fee). Very friendly staff, free shuttle service, great gym, and good location in town. My only objection is no free coffee for guests and no microwave owen in rooms.
We were there for dinner. Excellent service… The kitchen did have to prepare a new meal for one of our party. It was done correctly. The only thing I would say is that the dining room is very cold, as far as decorating is concerned. Otherwise, a great experience. We will be back.
Used this location for our wedding last October. Jamie and Sheila were absolutely fantastic at catering to our every need. We are still getting compliments on the venue and the food that was served. Complete perfection on the part of the staff, which made our reception something truly memorable. Would recommend to everyone!

Restaurant has a small but yummy breakfast selection. Great drinks too!
Great pub in the bar for a quick meal and to mingle with other guests, great spot in alternative to the sheraton if you are visiting for parent's weekend, or some other Syracuse University event.
I was here for a wedding this past Sunday and the area, the lobby, room, ceremony and Reception space was Beautiful, professional and great food.
This place appears overpriced for what it actually is. The decor is overwrought.
Friendly staff, clean rooms, good food, nice lounge, nice conference rooms, lost one star due to very small closet and bathroom.
Had a terrible experience with this hotel — who rents through airbnb through the name "Copper Beach". The front desk could not find my reservation so called the cops — it was surreal. They then found the reservation after calling the police… It was awful.
Went for lunch. Food is ok. Slightly overpriced. Good Ruben though.
I really liked my 5th floor room. Very classy place overall. Comfy bed. Friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi.
Food was excellent although a bit over priced for the portion sizes. Service was outstanding. Lighting where we were seated was too low for my liking. Very classy restaurant.
Beautiful hotel, nice clean rooms, excellent room service. Our only problem was at first being told that they were going to move us to another hotel (Sheraton) due to a broken ac in our room. A quick call to the manager sorted it out and got us in a room at the Grande. This was frustrating as I just was coming from my wedding, was in my bridal gown, and am 7 months pregnant — we were a bit upset that someone would turn a pregnant bride away on her wedding night, but management fixed the error so everything was OK in the end.
Had lunch with my Sorority sisters and the atmosphere was amazing. Appealing to the eye, beautiful architecture and clean. The staff was very courteous and helpful even when we started moving furniture so we could take a group picture lol. They actually took the photo. And yes we put the furniture back in place haha. The food was good. I had the vegetarian pita sandwich which was very tasty. The wait staff was very pleasant, patient and accommodating. Comfortable, quiet, elegant and classy… I will be returning!
We had a breakfast buffet to say so long to a treasured friend and coworker. Michelle Donahue and the rest of the staff of the Genesee Grande put on a great selection of food. The service was great as well. Thank You All.
Great hotel with free parking right downtown. The staff was all very helpful and the shuttle driver was very accommodating. We would definitely stay there again next time in town.
My stay has been great. The service is wonderful the room is spacious, clean and comfortable!
Pros: convenient location (15 min to the stadium), free parking, fast Wi-Fi Cons: room interior could be nicer Overall a decent option in Syracuse. My experience would have been satisfactory if not for one incident in the lobby. A lady inadvertently cut in line in front of me, so I told her I was in line. The reception staff was clearly agitated about this, I dont know why. Higher tone, fast and terse responses, stern facial expression, she wanted to get it over with me ASAP for sure. Then as I turn around and leave, I hear the staff apologize to the lady, in a softer tone. For what? Am I the rude angry customer for telling someone she cut in line? Didn't think it was professional.
Super fancy. Rich people only. Totally not PC. Fold out couch was the best couch I ever slept on. Breakfast was great. Towels were very absorbent. Staff was really nice. Rooms were clean and spacious.
I came for a conference and it's a lovely venue, but there was not enough parking and I had arrived early! Nothing could be done and I had to go to the nearby garage and pay. Get there very early!
Service was great, but I felt the menu was on the small side. There were only 2 beers on tap, not sure about the rest of their offerings. The seafood was fantastic for me, but the salmon had allot of extra breading. The dinner rolls were the best I've had in a while, seasoned with garlic and warm right from the oven.
Wonderful entrance and lobby small hotel room. Expensive restaurant, placed in back room with little view of staff and other patrons.
The service at 1060 was great, and the food was almost as good. The dish compositions themselves were unique. Emma's pasta met it's glowing recommendation. The meat items from other entrees were a little under salted, but after topping them off with a little salt the rest of the flavors were amazing.
We've been in this hotel five or six times. Come to Syracuse when I first chose this location because the hotel indoor swimming pool, hot water bath. Also, the hotel location, the hotel is right on the highway next to it. I always to this hotel very satisfactory.
Very bad (but not intentional) customer service. Do NOT rely on the shuttle service to get anywhere in a timely matter. All I wanted to do was go to the mall which was only a couple miles away; was told no "we don't go to the mall". They will go to a train station right by the mall. Very strange but whatever; fine I'll go to the train station. They then tell me the van isn't available for over two hours. I try a second time later in the day. This time they tell me 5 minutes. I wait 30. They then said "oh, it will be another half hour". At this point, I gave up. Sucks to be stuck here all day without a car and nothing to do. Avoid this hotel if you don't have a car and reliable service is important to you. The rooms themselves are large, but poorly designed (the desk and TV are in separate rooms! )
The hotel is in a great location near downtown Syracuse and the hospitals with a handful of excellent places to stop nearby. The staff is very friendly, and the shuttle service is an extra convenience staffed by very knowledgeable drivers. The room accommodations are excellent, although it is tough to set up a work space if you need to do any business on your trip.
This is by far the best hotel in Syracuse. The food is amazing, the staff is amazing. The rooms are amazing. Basically if you're coming to Syracuse, stay here. And PS, the breakfast is phenomenal.
First room I got smelled really strong of cleaning chemicals and the air-conditioning didn't work. The second room I got smelled musty and had filthy black carpets. The AC still wasn't great. The sink is cracked and the wallpaper is also peeling and there's no latch lock on the door. I was expecting more for $169 a night.
The new restaurant is pleasantly decorated but the noise during meals is really off-putting. Too many young people yell while eating (and drinking) in large parties. Please invest in carpeting, and put large noisy parties of drinkers in a separate room. Most people want to talk over lunch and dinner and it is almost impossible as things now stand. The food is fairly good and the prices reasonable. This would be a very welcome addition to the Syracuse restaurant scene if it were not so terribly noisy.
Not worth the money. I was in town for business, and stayed there only because I wanted to be comfortable. But what a disappointment. The rooms are small, and not well-maintained. No complimentary coffee in the rooms or in the main lobby! Luke-warm staff. I forgot my toothpaste and asked if this hotel (like most decent hotels) might have some extras at the main desk. I was given the toothpaste and told in a scripted way: " this is complimentary" (que fake smile). For the price of the hotel, I honestly never entertained the fact that it would not be complimentary, and resented this reminder. Only good thing I can say is that the gym is decent. Save your money; this hotel is simply not worth it. The location is also dumpy. I've had better at Microtel or Red Roof Inn for a fraction of the price. This is posted by someone who lived in Syracuse for a few years, so consider this source reliable.
The Genesee Grand would have you think it is a diamond in the rough. A 4-star high class hotel hidden within a not so great looking area in Syracuse. Upon arriving you will find yourself in a BEAUTIFUL lobby, but the common areas of the hotel seem to be where most, if not all, of the hotels beauty ends. the hallways to the rooms are VERY narrow, and upon entering this EXTREMELY sub-par room (ive had nicer rooms in model 6's) I found the wireless internet didnt even work. After a quick back and fourth with the front desk, I got it to work very slowly before it would cut out every 2 minutes. So much for getting any work done. the room thermostat isnt digital, nor is it based on a temperature — its "cold, hot — low, medium, high, off" — are you kidding me?! — you have a koi pond but not even a good AC/heating unit? this room looks like its last upgrade, aside from the flat screen tv, was in 1970. The shower head was dirty, grimey, and with VERY low water pressure, which also leaked water ALL over the bathroom floor, getting my clothes wet. SO! to sum up. Despite the Genesee Grand seeming like a diamond in the rough, its certainly no diamond, its just rough. VERY high/over priced rough at that. instead of staying here I would strongly suggest trying a 30 dollar motel. You will find they rooms arent much different, except the Wi-Fi at motels tend to work much better than at this "4 star" hotel. what a rip off. — avoid.
