Extremely nice place to stay.

Could use a better checking in system, people from all walks of live and all kinds of reasons for being at the Mayo Clinic’s, need a more accommodating for some of the early check ins, for some need to start preps for clinic visits but other then that it’s a beautiful place comfy beds,
Need some kind of accommodation like lobby coffee or breakfast something for the price.

The newly refurbished rooms and amenities are really done nicely and the staff is as exceptional as always!

This is the ideal place to stay if you are going to the mayo clinic literally mabe 20 steps across the hotel is the clinic or you can stay totally inside and get there super clean and friendly safe and wonderful shops and restaurants.

Highly recommend. Super convenient right across from the Mayo clinic. Everyone was so kind while we stayed a few days. Thank you to Kia for making our stay enjoyable, and Steve in the restaurant. The service is amazing and typically is what other hotels lack. We will absolutely be back.

This is literally the worst hotel I've ever experienced in my life. Was down there for 5 days they didn't clean our room, unnecessary charges were made. The manager at the hotel held onto our debit card on purpose for over an hour while we looked for it and never said a word. They are extremely rude. Multiple people complained about the sevice and I even over heard an older lady had to take a bird bath in her sink cause the bathroom was nasty. They wouldnt even give us coffee. It was a horrible experience which they wanted us to have and they achieved their goal. Stay at the Apsen if ya can, make sure you triple ask for toilet paper and coffee. Better yet dont stay at this horrible hotel.

Its close to the Mayo an surrounding health care. Subway level leads to clinic an food accommodations. There is somethin for EVERYONE!

It looks like a bomb went off here. Absolutely no warning that the place would be stripped to the studs for renovations. Hammering, pounding and drilling starts at 7am and lasts all day long, literally right outside our door. The staff, while polite, is not giving discounts on the rooms due to renovations even though the only warning on the website is there are “updates” happening (which could mean new drapes and shower curtains for all we knew). We had to leave and go to another hotel mid-stay due to the intolerable noise. Absolutely do not recommend.

Location is perfect, you can walk everywhere. Great restaurant easy to find. Two minutes and you’re in the Clinic.

I stayed May 24-26th Although they may of been short staffed there was certain Workers that were so awesome at the Rochester Mn Kahler Grand a young man Ethan stood out that was so helpful and Very nice. All the staff went out of there was to help. As well as the 2 restaurants Victoria and The Grill. Beautiful area outside to sit and relax There was a Starbucks! and a Caribou around the corner… No the Amenities are not what u expect cause of the Covid 19 (No gym, pool, Breakfast Buffet or Shuttle) but yet still very accommodating. I will come again.

The hotel is right across the street from Mayo clinic. It's a gorgeous building. The staff is top notch.

Level your expectations and it is a recommended hotel. If you are looking for modern high end hotel experience, then this may not be your first choice. If you are looking for clean, centrally located, at a reasonable price then this a good choice.

Trying to check in. Check in time is 4. It’s now 5:30. Line is long. Had a reservation but no rooms. They offered us a double bed even though we paid for a king. We finally got our room and air conditioning is not working nor is the TV.

Great service when checking in and close to everything downtown.

Seems as though there has been a turn over in staff. Much less efficient than previously. Heavy metal music not conducive to a relaxing meal.

I've loved the place, and the staff is amazing. I've been going there for 3 years 2-4 times a year for sometimes week (s) at a time, but it's getting too expensive now. The mayo patient rates have even climbed up almost too high for me to stay anymore. And the worst part is you'll still get an old unrenovated room for the higher rate. Don't want to find another place but I may need to.

Had no problem Checking in, great location, cute shops in the Hotel, pool has Beautiful views (But no elevator) you have to use the main elevator get off at 10th floor and walk down a long hallway to find the stairwell to go to the 11th floor, with 3 sets of steps, no one with a handicapped would really be able to enjoy the sauna or hot tub or pool, the building is old and things do go bump in the night this is expected, if had to I would come back for a night, got to say the beds were very firm I wish that had softer beds (oh and ice machine did not work on 2nd floor.

I chose this hotel because it was right next to my surgery location. I only needed 2 things from the hotel, a good night sleep and 2 showers to prep for surgery. Even with the heater's fan turned off, the heat is constantly running and the room temp was unbearable. Windows are screwed shut so of course I slept maybe 2 hours. Then there is the shower. No matter how you adjust the shower, the temp swings from scalding hot to ice cold. Which made it almost impossible to shower per doctors instructions. I even emailed the Kahler Grand 7 days ago and have not heard a single thing from them.

We stayed 4 nights. Yes it's an old building, that made it quaint, plus we could make up stories about the long hallways or the squeaking staff elevator. We had a good, undisturbed time. The only complaints I had were:
1) Nose in the air, pony tailed front desk dude. A bit judgy I would say… Everyone else was awsome and friendly.
2) Pool access. IIt's not "a" flight of steps, its 3! And why have wheelchair accessible pool and hot tub, if you are not able to use the elevator?
Loved the proximity to the Mayo, and just about anything else one could need.

I loved the convenience of their location, their restaurant and Martini’s. Also is located within a walking distance to other facilities, right across the Mayo Clinic, great restaurants like Victoria’s Italian Restaurante, shops, and other neat places.
The people at the front desk were awesome, and their service was excellent!

Not the Kahler I once knew. Was greeted by a grumpy desk clerk staring at his phone, dressed like he was going to the gym. It was late at night, I had just been with a family member who was admitted to the hospital. I get my key get in the elevator and it won't go to the 10th floor, only 9th. Go back to the desk clerk and he tries to tell me nothing is wrong. Finally find another elevator, get to my room that is the size of a walk in closet. The bed was like concrete with gravel on top. The air conditioner was at least 50 years old and would not work. I pulled back the curtain to open a window, IT WAS DISGUSTING. Windows were ancient, filthy, and wouldn't open. Next morning shower water was either scalding me or freezing me. I told the morning clerk and I was given a discount. Now 9 days later a charge appears for drinking a water bottle. I'm not even there! I never touched a water bottle when I was there. Don't know who owns this place now but I will NEVER stay there again.

Other than being right across the street from the Mayo Clinic and connected to it, it was horrible. Old, run down, no extra toilet paper in the room, no soaps or shampoos, the room was dirty with some dust and stains on the carpet and walls, the bed was lumpy, the shower had a hand held shower handle instead of a regular shower head, the door to the parking ramp was broke and had to walk where the cars drove, the parking is $10+ a day in public parking and that's if you don't use your vehicle at all or otherwise it's considerably more, 2 out of the 3 front desk attendants were rude, and it took 40 minutes for the extra pillow and blankets to be brought from laundry to our room. Not very GRAND.

It is old and shabby. I have stayed here at least for times. I keep coming back because of the closeness to Mayo Clinic. The water temperature fluctuates between scalding hot and freezing every 30 seconds while showering. Air conditioning is nearly non-existent in the rooms. On a positive note I adore all of the staff.

Best location to stay if you have appointments on the main Mayo campus. A Rochester icon where the who's who have stayed over the years. Some rooms remodeled, some rooms are classic. My room had a classic 50's style bathroom but a modern styled room decor. Hotel is next to the downtown open air walking "mall" which leads to many eating and shopping spots. Hotel has a very good restaurant with many options. If you have an appointment at the Gonda building, Mayo building, Charlton building or Methodist hospital this could be the place to stay! Your health is valuable, enjoy Rochester.

Room lighting was poor. Many of the TV channels kept cutting out because of lack of signal. The tub drain was very slow — tub fills during shower. It was impossible to regulate water temp. You would get shower set at good temp then it would very from cold to hot. I have used this hotel many times over the years. It is a great location if you want to go to Mayo clinic. However in has hone down hill. Each time I have visited hotel in the last 3 years I can see they are making repairs but it seems they are losing ground and not gaining. I brought up problems to front desk and they did not seem to care. They probably hear them a lot. Another guest at front desk at same time as me said their room had same problems. I think next time I will try a different hotel.

I am a local and have eaten at the Kahler Grand Grill over the course of 30+ years. Always has been a pleasant experience, food was good, service was great but this morning was a huge shock. My mom and I stopped in for a bite and she ordered fresh fruit and a cinnamon roll. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs and a piece of white toast. 10 minutes after we order the server came back to say they didn't have any more cinnamon rolls so she got something else. When the fruit eggs and toast arrived she had no roll and acted like she didn't know my Mom wanted the roll so off she went we asked her for silver ware which she brought the roll but no silver ware. We got it off a table from the bar ourselves. I buttered my toast and over the course of the 10 minutes I tried to eat my cold, slippery scrambled eggs the butter never melted. I ate about 4 bites of the eggs and 4 of the toast and it killed my appetite. My mom was 3/4 done and caught the hostess to ask her to take the food and it was so cold. She me another piece of toast. My appetite was done so-no. The server came back back only once when mom was done to give us the bill. Never came back again. We took the check up as we didn't know to pay at the table and mentioned how bad the service and meal was and was with the same apathy. She said something about how much cash was in with the bill which was exactly what we were charged. No tip earned! That's rare from us. The coffee was good.

We got 2 rooms for one night when we got their one room was ready the other one wasn’t. She told us we were early check in time is 4:00 pm. We went back at 4:45pm room still wasn’t ready went for walk came back at 6:00pm still not ready. She told us she could get us a different room on same floor but not next to one we already had. I believe they gave our room away and were scrambling to find us another one. Very disappointed in the staff. Told them it’s rediculous that at 6 we still don’t have our room ready when Check in time is 4. Told them I won’t be back and will tell other people not to go their also. Wasn’t even that nice of a room so outdated.

The rooms were very clean and spacious. Staff was welcoming and there was the convenience of having a bar, restaurant and gym in the hotel. Everything important was connected via the covered walkways between buildings.

The room was small but sufficient for what we needed and clean. The beds are comfortable and the staff is amazing. The Kahler Grand is close and convenient for appointments at the Mayo Clinic with access to the subway level and sky walk. I highly recommend this establishment.

Dated, cramped, smelly rooms. Ancient bathroom facilities. Super weak air conditioning that requires opening the curtains to use. (Seriously. ) Overpriced. Parking isn't included. Staff are unhelpful. Pillows were cheap and lumpy. The bed and TV were good, and the hotel is in a great location. Super easy to walk to Mayo and enjoy the surrounding shops and restaurants. I have no clue where these five star reviews stayed, but I would be shocked if it's the same hotel.

This hotel has not been maintained. I called maintenance three times to fix the central air unit and tgey never came. In addition, the bathtub stopper is not operable and water cannot drain when taking a shower; thus causing standing water as tall as your ankles. The front staff was courteous, thank goodness. The hotel needs a complete renovation! Had it not been selected and paid for by my company, I definitely would have stayed.

Has really nice rooms, if you get the right floors and the size of bed too. There is a pool at the top of the hotel with a very nice view of the city of Rochester. The skyways connected it to most of the places that I needed to go to. Its close to the center of the city with many great restaurants surrounding it. The down side is that some of the rooms are very creepy looking and ominous. The hallways are creepy too.

I’ve been traveling across the country staying in hotels every night and this one is, so far, my favorite. The main reason is that it is truly a grand old hotel with its own special atmosphere. The room is clean and comfortable. Not new but not at all run down. The staff has been really nice and the building has a Starbucks and various shops and restaurants. Importantly for me, this isn’t just another soulless corporate human warehouse. I have genuinely come to loathe all of the hotel chains, regardless of how fancy and new any particular one is. From low end to high end they are universally without character. The Kahler doesn’t suffer from this defect. It may have seen better days but if you can appreciate what it has to offer you will not regret your stay.

ArrivedThis is only our second stay at the Kahler, in my first review I was so impressed that I booked all further Mayo Appointment stays which will be 7 of the next 14 days here at the Kahler. Last night when we arrived however there had been a slight mix-up which could easily be made when you are directly across the street from one of the top Medical places in the United States, they over booked their handicapped room. Since I am a full leg amputee the roll in shower is a necessity to me and all the other folks had checked in prior to me. Without so much as a thought they moved us up here to an accessible room up here at the Towers and the staff is has been so amazing. Our room is beautiful, and the bathroom is huge and beautiful. They have coffee and drinks available all night and little snacks and a nice breakfast. They have a front desk person just for the 44 select rooms and they are private and a key is required to get to the Towers part of the hotel so there is no traffic roaming the halls. I am amazed by all the staff here so far, it doesnt matter if your on the 2nd floor or the 11th, the smiles are just as bright and inviting and there is nothing they have not offered to do to make our stay as easy going as possible. Next week will be a challenge as I dare to try to walk again and will spend 6 days as this as my home and will be alone. They said that they would escort me back and forth to my therapy appointments and will help me all they can.

Tiny but cool room. No bfast. Had to pay for parking. Less of a deal if you have to pay $20-30 on top of the room charge.

Classic landmark hotel. Indoor rooftop pool was spacious. Hot tub small (capacity 4) and not very hot. Room was fine. Only odd thing was I couldn't regulate shower temp, either icy or scalding.

We stayed in a small room over night while my father in law was having surgery at Mayo Clinic. We paid a significantly smaller amount by renting this room. Although small and a bit antiquated, it gave us a place to keep our stuff and lay our heads down. It is across the street from the clinic, so that was a definite plus. I liked the staff, location, and it has plenty of restaurants, stores as well as a Starbucks right in the building. I would definitely stay again, albeit in a bigger room if price is not a big issue.

It was comfortable. Great bed and pillows. I needed to stay downtown and didn't want to spend over $100. After all the fees and taxes, my economy double room came to about $98. The room was furnished with updated amenities but the sink, lighting and bathroom fixtures were reminiscent of the early 90s. Not a big deal as long as you're not spending a lot of time in there. The building is a bit of a maze but happens to be directly connected to the parking ramp. I didn't need a taxi because of the location and I was able to leave my car there way past check-out time. The shops were fun and the nearby dining was awesome. The old marble walls of the early 1900s were still in the tiny bathroom and that was cool. I would've rather stayed at the DoubleTree, but not for an extra $75 per night. There's much nicer rooms at the Kahler Grand for more money but if you just need a bed and running water, this is more than sufficient. I'd stay again.

Stayed for 2 nights for appointments at Mayo. The room rates were very good and the service was excellent! The location cannot be beat. Walk everywhere in the Subway level. Great shopping, restaurants. Parking connected but extra rate. Over all satisfaction. The only downside is the room we had was outdated and IMO needs updated bathrooms.

Very conveniently located across the street from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Has nice fitness center, small gift shop, laundry facilities, economy rooms, standard and luxury suites, ADA compliant rooms, many rates available! Bellmen at your service. Grand Grill, Martini's, and Lord Essex Tavern accommodate your dining and bar experience in-house. Access to underground walking subway and skyways. Friendly staff and very accommodating!

Very convenient to walk across the street to the clinic but… the people in the room directly across from us were smoking you could smell it in the hall I contacted the front desk but nothing was ever done about it. Very hard to handle being allergic to smoke. We arrived on Monday and the dishes that were on the floor in the hallway were still there when we left on Friday Gross! Walls are very thin you could hear everything going on in the next room. Rooms need good cleaning, walls esp. In the bathroom. Tiny bathrooms, no vanity. So disappointed with these rooms esp. When not feeling good.

Wonderful, well kept hotel. Would definitely stay again.

Great staff — loved having food available — didn't have eat as much.

I had an appointment at Mayo and just needed a hotel stay for the night since the weather was bad and I live two hours away. Regularly traveling to Europe, I love old world charm so I chose this hotel. The pool was closed for the season for maintenance per their website, however staff did not tell me this at all. The hotel room was in poor shape. The carpet was cut around the entire perimeter of the room and had huge gaps in between where the carpet and the wall meet. It doesn't look as though they vacuumed the room, and there were so many dings and holes in things. Every window was cracking and peeling, and so was the brick on the hotel from the view outside my window. The straw that comes in those little packages containing napkins and sugar and creamer was sitting under a new package, so they didn't clean it. The bathroom looked okay, aside from the chips in the wood. While there, I ordered a Caesar salad ($8) and asked if I could still get the Atlantic Lobster Tail for $21 under the steak accompaniment section, even if I didn't order a steak. The lady on the phone said yes, and placed my order. I was charged $101 for my room service meal, but it should have only been $38.08 with the mandatory charges (meal cost of $29 + service charge of $3 + mandatory 19% tip) but not including taxes. I spoke to the woman at the front desk, who first told me that they're charging it based on the fact that it was a steak accompaniment.

Rock hard bed, pillows were not comfortable, two sheets with an ultra thin blanket was not sufficient to keep me warm, sour smelling towels as I was using them to dry off, TV remote was pretty much worthless, ceiling tiles in need of some love as they were pretty dingy, walls are pretty thin and no safe in the room to lock valuables. Despite the bathroom being outdated and small, it was clean. I wish it had a fan. The room was clean minus the ceiling. The hotel staff were friendly and housekeeping was very accommodating to bring more pillows, blankets and towels. This hotel has lots of potential given its location and history, but it needs some serious love. The ease of dining options was another bonus.

The restaurants are great. I love that the rooms are well kept but older style! They cleaned the tub drain after I told them it seemed to be clogged which is wonderful. Also the fact that it's connected to Mayo which means I can get to the clinics fast is really amazing. I also feel I can come back and relax when I need to.

Super close to the Mayo clinic. Parking is available nearby, though you will have to pay. The rooms were older, but adequate. We did have an issue with our room when we checked in, but the staff was super friendly and helped us get a new room quickly once they realized a repair was in order. We had our new room immediately with no fuss.

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. This is a budget friendly hotel with decent sized rooms and lots of shopping and food options in the building and around the building. It also has a very nice gym and pool. I would definitely stay here again and this is a very cost-effective option near Mayo Clinic. There are lots of people staying here that are patients or family of patients at Mayo Clinic however my stay was a business stay and I paid $16 a day for parking. The parking lot is very close and there's direct access to the garage from the hotel rooms. You need key card access to get into and out of the garage from the hotel so when you are checking in you need to enter through the front door or get buzzed in from the garage at the end of the walking bridge. Update: After my second stay I realized some of the rooms are updated and some are not. This time my room was not updated and I wasn't as impressed. The shower went from freezing cold to scolding hot and was very uncomfortable. I still like the location and the price is low so I will stay again. But I will ask for an updated room.

Room was terrible especially for the price. They charged us for a long distance call WE DID NOT MAKE and immediately removed it from the bill without even any questions. I wonder how many other people pay for calls they don't make and don't notice on their bill? Other than that, staff was very friendly and courteous and being walking distance from Mayo was about the only other good thing. As soon as we could we went to Marriott Spring Hill Suites and it is SO much better! And Spring Hill has free parking!

The hotel is old and it definitely needs a refurbishing or a renovation. It seems like it hasn't been updated in a very long time. It isn't very modern. It just seems very old and it seems like a place for older clients. It's not a place that younger people would like because it's not modern or cool. There is a coffee shop downstairs a Starbucks which is good. It is always very busy. It just has a very old vibe to it. It is one of the few games in town so if you have to stay the night I guess it's not a bad option. I prefer some of the other hotels over this one because they have better restaurants and are a little bit more modern.

The staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful. Upon my arrival, I parked in the garage connected to the hotel. Two staff members (I believe upper level mgmt) noticed I had an unusual amount of luggage and immediately stepped in and helped me carry it while guiding me to the front desk for check in. The staff at the front desk were also very friendly and professional although I did provide them with some kinks to work through. Today, upon re-arrival to my room, house keeping spotted me and offered to provide me with additional towels and coffee since I had the "privacy please" door hanger up during the day. Hospitality seems to have been forgotten in a lot of today's businesses so I'm happy to see that Kahler and their awesome staff still understand the importance of just simply caring about their customer.

We were visiting for a wedding, and most of the bridal party was staying in the hotel as well, it was a very nice hotel. It is an older building, with smaller rooms than many modern hotels, but it was well maintained, and beautiful. The staff were very accommodating of late and disparate check in, and very helpful for my wife who checked in alone with our toddler. Tony the bellman even babysat for a short time while my wife moved the car, which was a godsend. The only possible complaint would be about the parking. Because the building is in downtown Rochester, directly across from the Mayo Clinic, parking is not included in the room rate, though you can get an in and out pass for $17 per night.

Small dark rooms with insufficient lights. Old, you can smell the worn fabrics, cleaning is insufficient, dust everywhere, air conditioning is insufficient and does not even cool the room to outside temperature. Normally having the ability to open a window is great for a hotel room, just not this case, it will fill your room with air expelled from a nearby restaurant with a noise greater than the room's AC unit. Bed frame fell apart after my room was cleaned apparently, the service to put it back together was however quick and sufficient. Further a fine hotel with plenty facilities, great staff and good location for visiting Mayo Clinics.

This place was a dump, do not stay here! The first room we were assigned was tiny, floors were dirty and stained, hair on the bathroom floor and very outdated. Went to the desk to complain and were given another room key to check out. Second room had same dirty floors, hair again on the bathroom floor and a dirty spoon sitting on the window sill. We returned to the front desk again and got a third room key. Third room was the cleanest out of them all and we did stay but, checked around for bugs and did not sleep well. Parking was $16 daily and no continental breakfast. No discount was offered. Ran into another gal on the elevator and questioned how her room was, she had clothes in hand and said hers was awful and she was not going to stay there. Only good thing was location to the Mayo clinic.

The hotel is nice. The location across the road from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The rates for movie rental is really ridiculous, $18-$20 for 1 movie. The shower are nice.

I think this is the same thing as the Kahler Grand hotel. It was good.

Room is over crowded with huge desk and chair. AC had issue, maintenance dealt with promtly. Nice place.

As a Mayo hotel, they do well both in their operations as a hotel and in taking care of getting urgent medical care when needed. Comfortable rooms. My view was spectacular. Housekeeping — no nit picking, just got it done. Food — very tasty but a little expensive. I used mostly in room eating though. And as one of two hotels attached to the Mayo by subway I could get everywhere fast and out of the elements.

Old school hotel. If you're looking for a deal they have small rooms for under $100 a night. Great location if it's important for you to be near Mayo and attached to the underground Subway. So close I could take naps between appointments! Being an older Hotel there may be some spots on the carpets and older type Furniture, sinks, mirrors, excetera. I happen to think that makes it quaint!

Absolutely the dumpiest hotel you could stay at. Woke up full of bites, found bed bugs, reported it and got moved to a smaller room with no help, had to wash everything and the staff was rude and fought me on everything. I would never recommend this place. Not worth it in any way… yes it's convenient location but there's plenty of other options within walking distance of the clinic that would be better than this dive.

Awesome location, right next to Mayo, one of the most prestigious hospitals in the entire world. Also a great place to tour for historical sightseeing, as well as for any art enthusiasts. Service is very attentive and helpful here and the rooms are breath-taking. Some come with outstanding views over Rochester. This place is a great experience for the extra cost!

Absolutely Perfect! We are regulars and we are always treated so warmly. I have a child that is highly allergic to many foods, they remember her and always go the extra step for her! I LOVE Kahler Grand!

Had to change rooms as the first rom had a super noisy ac unit. Second room just difficult to sleep in. The whole room is dated including the bed. If we didnt have a group rate I wouldnt stay. Staff are very professional and friendly.

The room we had was so small it was claustrophic. The pictures on their website are extremely misleading if you get what I'm assuming would be an 'economy' room (2 full size beds). The bathrooms are really small too. No free breakfast and you have to pay for your parking every time you leave the parking garage. The hotel itself is pretty inside. Won't be staying here again.

Rooms were merely adequate, walls were made of paper… You can hear everything in all the rooms around you. The water in the bathroom was undrinkably bad and the plumbing was industrial loud. Beds were too small but serviceable, they were hard but the pillows were worse, at least the three pillows per bed was nice. The bartender in the attached Essex Steakhouse was the highlight of my stay. After a visit to the Mayo Clinic and needing to rest before the long drive home, the hotel was unable to accommodate a late check-out beyond 1pm without charging for a full day.

Stayed at Kahler Grande 1 1/2 weeks ago. Rate was $99 for King in remodeled wing. Returned this week and rate $149 in old wing with full size bed that was hard as a rock. 1970s metal bathroom fixtures. Toilet not even close to standard height. Sink and shower were plugged. I had to lay out all 6 pillows on mattress and then slept on the pillows. Complained to front desk supervisor and was told if I wanted a soft bed I needed to pay the executive price. Are they kidding. This was already $50 more than the week before. I checked out instead. Then I found out I was charged $38 for a $12.95 Reuben sandwich and fries. Someone changed my $3 tip to a $30 tip for a sandwich I ate in the restaurant. It took a lot of arguing to finally get this money back. I will never stay there again.

The hotel provides great service. Located by several restaurants. My stay was great; comfortable beds and nicely decorated area for the price.

Stayed at room 423. Honestly one of the worset rooms I've been at. The bed makes noises. The bathroom is old and outdated. The water was BROWN when we turned it on. The room just looks like it's in terrible shape. We had to pull the quilt out of the closet, because there's not one on the bed for some reason, and it was stiff and scratchy, because it has VELCRO ON IT.

Very outdated. Definitely not as nice as it shows in their photos. Cleanliness isn't the greatest either. The best part of the hotel is their people. They are really nice and accommodating. I guess it makes up for what they lack in their facilities. It is also very convenient to Mayo clinic right across the street.

Outdated small rooms. Peeling wallpaper, stains and holes in carpet, faucets leaked, cracked tile in bathroom, they used a white sheet as a bedspread, bland food. I found similar quality at a far lower price such as Super 8. Pool was nice, however there was no elevator to bring you up there.

Awful. Save 10 bucks and stay at the Marriott across the street. It is completely outdated, the showers are designed for people under 5 feet. Shower nozzle was at eye level with me (6 feet). Heater has cracked plastic by the vent, and peeling wallpaper. Don't be fooled by the pictures, and don't book the pay ahead rate. It is a trick to get the money from you before you get to see the room in person. Stay away.

This hotel is absolutely terrible. The staff are lazy and completely incompetent. The hotel is very old and poorly maintained. The rooms are small. The restaurants are awful. The valet is the worst I have ever experienced anywhere. The lounge is a complete joke. The only good think about this place is how close it is to Mayo Clinic however don't make the same mistake we did, there are nicer hotels that are connected to Mayo via the underground tunnel system and a short walk to Mayo. You will need to go there anyway to find acceptable food anyway. Stay as far away as possible!

This place was a complete let down. I registered using their Mayo Clinic Patient package which at the time of my registration, included parking; however, when I arrived they informed me that they no longer pay for parking for the Mayo Clinic Patient package. I was willing to let the parking issue go, but then they claim to be a smoke-free hotel and I spent two days with someone in the vicinity of my room chain smoking. I complained on the first night to the front desk as the smell worked its way into my room but smell did not go away. On night two of the smoke filled stay I went down to speak with the front desk — they were nice enough to move me to a new room (which is still a hassle). The new room did not smell of smoke, but it was right next to the elevator. I had to buy earplugs in order to sleep as the elevator made too much noise. The fact that the hotel is so close to the Mayo Clinic is a definite plus — but if you don't mind a 5 minute walk, go with another hotel. I will not be back to this one.

We stayed six nights here. Hotel is very dated-same wood paneling in rooms that is in my grandmother's house which was built in the sixties. Because we were younger guests, we were given a stand up shower which was 2"X3". Bed was very uncomfortable and springs dig into back/made noise all night. Diane at the front desk is the reason we stayed here and the reason the rating is not lower. The brunette was rude and literally told me that nobody had ever asked her where to buy a two liter soft drink before and had no idea where I could get one. Funny, the manager at the Marriott next door pointed me toward a general store 100 FEET FROM THE ENTRANCE. Convenient location, but if you can afford it, stay next door.

It's a decent place. It's certainly small like a NYC hotel but the price is right. The couple of times I stayed there my bed was comfortable. If you're visiting Mayo or just other places downtown you're probably within blocks and right by a skyway and pedestrian subway. One knock, their daily parking for their ramp is more than I'd like to pay.

The staff does not care about guests, I guess they know that there are only a few hotels near the Mayo so they know you will be sick and not have another option. I checked into my room after a long day at the clinic, I was very sickly and immediately got into bed. I did not not notice the full disrepair of the hotel and the lack of cleaning at first until I went to the bathroom and noticed urine stains on the toilet seat, floor and old toothpaste stains on the sink, old water stains and the carpet probably had never been vacuumed. The worst hotel I have ever stayed at! Even a random Motel 6 is in much better shape for half the price. You are better off staying elsewhere if you can.

So far it's four stars although I am still here we will see if it changes. But for booking a room with holiday weekend rate got an Ada room. Confirmed room 3 times even after check out time the same day I would arrive it was confirmed. My husband went in to check in and said our room was booked. The manager gave us a huge 2 bedroom 3 bathroom full living room 3 TV s wow so much space. Thank you! some staff seem snoby others are very polite and more then willing to go out there way. Love the connection between hospital going to check more out later.

If you are handicapped/wheelchair bound, please read. Kahler cannot guarantee a certain type of room (for example a roll in wheelchair room/bathroom). We talked to the manager and she stated that they have a specific number of handicapped rooms and if someone comes to Mayo clinic and they extend their stay, they occupy the same room. As such, even if we reserved that room several weeks in advance and also called 24 hours prior to arrival and they confirmed that the room is available, they still cannot guarantee that you will get the type of room that you need. That is what happened to us. We asked if all the handicapped rooms can have persons that extended their stay at the same time (they have at least one handicapped room for each floor) and she stated: "Yes". We had to explain to her the difference between a transfer chair handicapped bathroom and a roll in wheelchair bathroom, they have both, and she seemed amazed that we needed a roll in wheelchair bath and did not like the other. We did not get an apology for what happened, just an explanation that this is what it is, that their system is depending on Mayo clinic (good way to divert blame) and that there is nothing that they can do. We also found that the same investors that purchased Kahler, purchased Marriott. As such, both use the same type of reservations system. We are sure that a solution can be found to this disastrous room reservation system, especially since it affects handicapped customers negatively.

I almost had a room at the Kahler Grand but had to cancel, on the same day I arrived. For 3 months prior, I called a total of 3 times (once a month until the week of), to make sure we could check in early, at noon, for medical purposes. Each time I was told that would be no problem at all. The day of, I was told 'my room' wouldn't be ready until later that afternoon. I had a melt-down right there in the lobby. I couldn't believe what they were telling me. I had to then run around Rochester until I found a hotel with a room available. Thank goodness I did, because I would have had to reschedule my entire line of doctor appointments and tests, all because they couldn't follow-thru. Never again will I EVER book a room with the Kahler Grand. Shouldn't be too hard to hold ONE room, especially since I called, MONTHS in advance to get in at 12pm noon.

I understand the security concerns but I think they're a little bit too paranoid and to controlling. Plus it is considered a high roller hotel so you're going to have people who are snobs and think they're better than you. And that is half if not more than half the staff. There are much better and cheaper hotels that don't look that great from the outside but guaranteed you'll have a better time on the inside.

The first room I checked into was so small I couldn't in the door and shut it without tripping over mu luggage. It was at the end of a hallway, and I'm convinced it is literally a converted closet (floor 8 or 9). The lights wouldn't turn on and can't explain but I had an intense feeling of fear. I went down to the front desk and advised I wanted a different hotel room. They asked if I wanted to upgrade to a larger room, I replied, "No, I just want a room that is larger than a small closet and one where the lights work. Highly convenient to the Mayo and the lobby is beautiful. But this was the worst the many hotel room I've ever stayed in — room 423. The rooms have not been updated since 1994 — dark carpets with who knows what spilled on them since then. Many of the rooms are converted hospital rooms, tiny, water leaks, smelled musty, pillows were lumpy, tub didn't drain, the thermometer didn't work, headboard had two wash cloths shoved behind it — apparently to keep it from hitting the wall it was bolted against, there is a razor blade dispensary in the tiny bathroom (very old) and the drain had the old fashion chain and rubber stopper. Creepy, small and felt like a jail cell or room in a sanitorium. Checked out the next day and moved to the Hilton Garden in — further away, but what a sigh of relief. Very nice, bright, roomy and clean. Was told there used to be a morgue in the basement of the hotel.
