Nice hotel but the street drag racing at night can be annoying!

Staff, amenities, bath products, rooms, everything! First class hotel!

We stayed here for 3 weeks following my transplant surgery. We were on the 3rd floor. The room was small for such a long stay, but it’s at a very discounted rate so that’s ok. The room was pretty clean, except for someone’s hospital bracelet, a crayon, dust and a pill behind the night table. The bathroom was nice and clean. There is a tiny fridge in the room but no microwave, so meal planning has been rough. The shower is nice and has 2 heads which is great for surgery recovery. There are tons of places to eat nearby and most clinics are within walking distance. Shuttle service is fine but one driver is not friendly at all. He speeds everywhere and hits all of the bumps. They need to remind him that his riders are often post surgery. The TV is nice. The beds are comfy. The air conditioner sounds like a Cessna. There are weird exhaust things outside of our room that are always running and are very loud. Our view is poop but oh well. The cafe is awesome but expensive. They have Starbucks coffee which is nice. Tons of snacks too. The ice machine was broken and I don’t see any vending machines anywhere. Check in was ok. Our parking is free and we get to park close to our room which is really nice. Housekeeping is friendly and helpful. The front desk folks have been nice. They may want to try to put UAB patients on certain floors so they can avoid the other guests and noise as they recover. A bigger fridge would be nice and a microwave would be really helpful.

Nice clean & quiet rooms.

Hotel staff is rude. Maids knock on the door all morning, even with a “do not disturb sign” posted on your door. Front desk lady is argumentative, rude and combative. She also likes to put words in your mouth about conversations you had with other staff members. Staff checked me out without telling us and didn’t even allow me to get my bags from the room because now I wasn’t a “registered guest. ” Then in a sarcastic way the front desk lady says, “I’m gonna do something nice for ya” and the let me up to the room. Room still hasn’t been cleaned on top of all this! My opinion, stay away from here! There plenty of nice hotels I can see in walking distance.

Customer service is very rude. As a Diamond member I expected better. Yolanda the second shift desk clerk did help us with this situation.

Great place to relax and unwind after a long day at the hospital.

Went there for an OSHA training seminar. It was very informative, the hotel was doing some remodeling, the staff was very friendly and courteous. The facility was nice, many things were covered up or blocked from traffic. Nice place for a company event, easy to get to, parking deck is located right next to the facility. Easy to get into, easy to get out of.

Currently under renovation. Paint smell in the air. Rooms very nice and updated. Helpful staff willing to work with me to get a ride to the airport in time to catch my early morning flight.

Heavily under construction at the moment. The rooms are great, at least 10th floor and above, but the construction makes everything else a disaster. 5 stars for the room, and one star for the pain of getting through the hotel. Noise, all day long. The new rooms are nice but I heard the furniture isn’t new yet. The bed was good, and seemed new, so no complaints there. The restaurant “works, ” but the “bar” isn’t a bar. It’s a seating area in the restaurant with bottles and alcohols stacked near high tops and tables. It works, but if you want a “bar, ” this isn’t it. My boss found it acceptable and he’s hard to please. Having good vodka on hand probably helped. I was told the construction would last through October… at least.

Staff were wonderful, the rooms? Not so much. Go into the hotel with the expectation that it is under renovation and you may be more pleased. We originally had a room with the vanity burnt out, the shower faucet leaked and sprayed when the water was on, and the ceiling above the shower appeared to be suffering a leak and bubble from the floor above. We went to the desk and swapped rooms. The second room was better, but we were looking to get out of there as quickly as possible. The staff gave us a full refund, and they were very pleasant. Just the overall quality makes this a 1-star review, I've stayed at Motel 6's that were nicer. :)

The only redeemable quality about my stay was the nice staff and quick check-in. My room was sub-par to say the least. First, as soon as I get to my door I notice oily fingerprints all around the door handle. Next I go to the bathroom and notice dirt and hair—not just a single abandoned strand—on the floor. Then as I yonder further into the room I walk by a minifridge on the floor in poor condition and scratches all over. Next I go to the desk to turn on the lamp and again notice dirt all over the table. I thought they were dark scratches at first but then I blew on it and stuff flew across the table. Then I notice the chair that looks like it was bought at a garage sale with stains all over and the coating/lining on the arms peeling off. Lastly I go brush my teeth, and the sink doesn’t drain. Given the cleanliness issues, I was scared to eat the cookie I received at check-in. Hopefully, other people found redemption in the cookie. It’s remarkable that this hotel is able to carry Hilton’s name on it. I was too tired from my travel to even bother complaining about the room (and also feared that the other rooms wouldn’t be much better) so I didn’t ask for a room change. Considering the multitude of choices to stay in this area, I would not recommend staying here.

Enjoyed our stay a few weeks ago. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were a nice size and had a decent TV and channels. WI FI was free and worked well. The in hotel restaurant was great with a wide selection.

The room was pleasant. It was comfortable and seemed good and clean. The hallways were a little plane and not very aesthetically pleasing, but I wasn't sleeping in the hallway. Downstairs in the lobby they were in the middle of renovations so there was some noise that could be heard in the morning but nothing crazy. I enjoyed my stay enough to go back if needed. The location was pretty Central to everything I wanted to see and do. My stay was only two nights and pretty simple so I had no need for too many services.

The staff was very nice and accommodating. Most floors had an entrance door from the parking deck. Only thing that I didn't like was that each room didn't have a private mircowave. There were certain floors that had the ice, vending machine, and microwave at the end of the hall.

Let me start by saying BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER and that’s why I’m doing 2 stars and not 1! —-When you stay at a presidential suite and have a 1sq ft fridge and no microwave and have to go 6 floors down to use one? — — We has 2 decaf coffee packets and no caffeinated ones. Went to front desk and she couldn’t find any so told me to go down to restaurant to get one. They were wanting to charge $2 for it. Later on I asked our room service lady and she didn’t have any so went down to the storage and none. The entire hotel didn’t have a single coffee. Quite amusing honestly. — — No ice machine as the sign says — — we asked for late checkout, yet our cards stopped working after normal checkout time.

Date of Stay: 5/22/2018 through 5/23/2018 Context: I recently stayed at another DoubleTree by Hilton location when traveling for work and had a great experience while there. So, when my wife and I were needing a place to stay for one night in Birmingham on our vacation, I was excited to choose this hotel based on my previous experiences with the chain. Prior to Check-In: I had a few questions about my reservation on the day prior to check-in, so I called the hotel. After being re-directed several times and then intentionally hung up on twice (the receiver was picked up and, after a split-second of background noise, immediately hung up), I finally got the information that I needed. On Check-In: Our reservation was for a room with a single King Bed — without any mention of why this was changed, we opened the door to our room to find two double beds, instead. Also: I was pretty certain that being offered a fresh, warm cookie on check-in was like a signature thing with the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel chain. Regardless, this was never mentioned or offered in any of my interactions with the front desk. During the Stay: I now have several large, angry red (potentially, bite) marks on me that I didn't have when I arrived, which my wife suggested may be bed bug bites. The automated revolving door in the main lobby kept stopping and then jerking to motion again during use, leading to us having to stop and walk through at a snail's pace to avoid running into the door.

Great location for easy access to UAB hospitals. Room was comfortable and neat but somewhat dated decor. Service was sufficient with nothing to complain about nor nothing to be overly excited about. Overall a good hotel for my stay.

Love the Double Tree! The breakfast is wonderful. Walking distance to nice places to dine. They also have a shuttle that will take you to most places.

The property is undergoing a substantial renovation so it can be a little noisy during the day but other than that I was able to get some much needed rest at night. They also have a business center if you need access to a computer. Oh and don't forget to ask for the fresh baked cookies at the front desk.

Rooms are clean and staff is nice! Love that they offer free transportation within 2 miles of the hotel. Made it so much easier for my husband and I to get around and not have to worry about parking. Driver even gave us a tour of the popular restaurants close by. My only complaint is the prices on their restaurants menu is ridiculous… the food is ok but not spectacular for those prices. Also, I love that they offer a warm delicious cookie at the front desk that are available throughout your stay.

I've stayed her in the past and still love it, but they hotel is starting to show it's age. It needs a full renovation. The staff is great and the rooms nice. The are just getting too well worn.

First, let's start off with that cookie! Incredibly delicious! This hotel has friendly staff. Nothing exceptional about the decor of the room or hotel. However, the bed was quite cozy. Downside: I just so happened to arrive when there was no running water. And when the water did come back on, it was brown & had visible debris. Now. The hotel attempted to accommodate by giving bottled water and performing the maintenance during the late evening. This wasnt the best experience. But the inconvenience was fairly brief. Also, I could hear nearly EVERYTHING going outside (street-side). However, I didnt hear much noise in the halls. Overall, I think that my expectations of this hotel was a bit high. But I'd probably give them another chance.

We would love to give a huge shout out to our friends on the staff here for taking such great care of our client David Rosen during his recent stay! They were very friendly about the late hour check in and there was a nice bistro with good coffee and breakfast on-site so he was able to get some strong coffee and a good meal before hitting the road again. We look forward to sending our clients to stay with you again in the future!

Beautiful hotel, situated in a EXTREMELY convenient location on 20th St and University Blvd. You can experience the best of what's Birmingham got to offer (Fine dining, Theatre, Bars, Night Clubs) all within a 10 min walk. The rooms are very elegant, and are a step above the mediocre "cookie cutter" hotels offered by other big corporations. Unfortunately breakfast is not continental, and the parking is sketchy at best. No on the street parking, and the parking deck is pay to park.

I wish I could say that I enjoyed my stay because I always prefer DoubleTree over any Hilton property but this was a poor experience. The front desk agent got my key card wrong twice so I had to go back down each time. Mind you, this is at midnight when I’m already beat tired. The room was mediocre — clearly an old hotel with an attempt to modernize it by laying down new carpet. Furniture and bathroom were beat up as well. I think that the worst part was the construction going on at 8:30 in the morning. It would make more sense to do all that at checkout times but for some reason, they thought it was a good idea to drill at 8:30a. I’m NEVER one to complain but this stay was unacceptable.

I went to Double Tree to visit a guest there. We had drinks at the bar. The drink was adequate. It was nice and easy though so good place for quiet casual drinks.

Fabulous from check in to check out. Front desk Charles was super friendly, had a great attitude. He checked us in at 8:20 am and let us pick preference of rooms! We requested the use of a fridge and one was brought to us. Clean comfortable room.

A jewel of Southern hospitality. From the minute we walked in the door, we were made the feel at home. Hot cider on a cold night, piping hot cookies and friendly and professional staff. The bed was big, clean and comfortable, our room was quiet, we weren't hassled by staff early in the morning, the shower was hot with great water pressure… a welcome respite for weary travelers. Definitely recommended, would absolutely stay again.

Bit tired, but renovation due for completion Q1 next year 2018. Overall staff were friendly and helpful. The Manger was brilliant at resolving the issue we had quickly an efficiently. Nice place to stay.

Had a great stay at the DoubleTree in Birmingham. Really impressive lobby, large and well-appointed, with a friendly bar off to the side, and fresh lemon and cucumber waters waiting for you. Nice touch. The staff were very friendly — Southern hospitality at work. I checked in quickly, and was pleased by my room, on the 7th floor. Nice view of the city, and everything was very clean. Nice decoration in the room, too, cool furniture and very harmonious. Very comfy bed, too, and quiet, I slept great in the two nights I was there. I loved the location, seemed like any direction there were interesting restaurants and shops. Definitely check out Five Points if you're staying here, just a few blocks away. Look forward to staying here again.

The location is very close to UAB. The rooms are acceptably new, and equipped with the Doubletree standard of accoutrement. The property has an attached garage. The restaurant on site has very well prepared eggs in the morning. Very few hotel breakfast buffets have scrambled eggs done properly. Kudos to the breakfast chef. The staff is friendly.

Beautiful hotel, located within walking distance from several great Birmingham destinations. Rooms were fantastic and also allowed me to see my beloved dog while on vacation as it is a pretty friendly hotel. 10/10 would sleep in again.

This is an older downtown hotel. It hasn't been remodeled so the furniture and decor is a bit dated. Our room was clean and comfortable, but small. Rather than two queen size beds we had two full size. We had a good stay, but this reminds me that I prefer to stay in hotels that have been updated with newer amenities.

The hotel was well located The shuttle service was awesome. The hhonours club room was great. The carpet and AC units need an upgrade.

VERY DATED, OVERDUE FOR RENOVATIONS! Location is the selling point. Dirty rooms x 2! Be sure to bring house shoes to walk on nasty floors which are sticky and gross. The AC is loud and wall mounted, very dated. The closet doors, which were mirrors, were off of the tracks in the second room so we couldn't hang our clothes. TINY restroom, even in the king room. +Really good breakfast buffet (costs extra), +convenient parking (costs extra as with most hotels downtown), bed was comfortable. We started out in room 404 and moved to 407, should have stayed in 404 (king verses double).

There was an issue with checking in which took some time to resolve. The room was clean and comfortable; however, the AC unit was horribly loud and scared me to death everytime it came on… even throughout the night. It startled me awake multiple times in the night. My room was not cleaned or straightened while I was there either. Luckily I am a tidy person so it wasn't a huge issue… But I did have to snag my own creamer and sweetener for coffee the second morning because it wasn't replenished. Wasn't a bad stay; however, it wasn't the best either.

Good hotel, bad location. Down the hill from five points and lots of good restaurants but dangerous neighborhood. The subway across the street has been robbed multiple times while ive been here. Rooms are clean and good size.

Kurt Green is a client of ours who recently stayed here while on tour performing in Birmingham. He had a fantastic stay! He was quick to tell us how awesome the staff was with his late check-in and was very happy with the location to the city. There was a really nice lounge/bar to relax in before the show and have some lunch, and a laundry room to get caught up before hitting the road. Thank you for taking such great care of our clients!

Attended a conference there. Very clean and spacious meeting areas. Good food and welcoming staff. Would visit again.

All the staff was nice and great. Everyone so friendly and helpful went out of their way. The restaurant — Bre helpful and nice. The shower had little mold under soap dish. Some areas of hotel could be cleaner elevator, some areas great like bathroom near restaurant.

Great hospitality. All the staff members were very professional and helpful. The room has bad odor, very suffocated, reasonable space but the smells bad which I think is from the carpet. Stayed 3 nights and they were able to change my rooms for me with out a significant change in the smell. Just because I'm very sensitive and get allergic responses easily I wouldn't go back.

Meh. The room was fine but definitely not worth the $230 I paid. You can get a Hampton Inn for half the price and get breakfast. Plus the air conditioner was so loud I could barely hear myself think. But the most disappointing aspect was charging $10 for parking and never telling me about it! That's ridiculous. How do you ask a guest "will you be parking with us? " and not mention there's a fee?! Nothing wrong with the hotel but not a good value at all.

The room was nice. The bathroom seemed small compared to other hotel bathrooms I had stayed in previously. Front desk was welcoming. I could not figure out how to use the thermostat in the room so I was very cold the one night I was there. The hotel is a little tricky to get to because it is right in downtown Birmingham.

The location of the hotel is excellent for visitors to the University of Alabama. It is a block from Birmingham's Five Points, where there are a few of the city's high ranked restaurants. Most of the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the hotel is showing some age. The air conditioner in my room was not working on arrival. The desk manager did not move me to a new room, and the room was uncomfortably warm for over an hour after check-in.

Quite close to UAB, Southern Research, and Five Points. Restaurant was good, but menu was limited. Great local items upon checkin. Very clean room. Friendly staff. Nice pool and workout room.

Spend a lot of time traveling to Birmingham for work and finding a nice hotel in a convenient location with a friendly staff seems to be a tougher task then first thought. However, not at the DoubleTree near the UAB campus. The room was clean, location perfect and the staff extremely accommodating. Even after a mix up with my reservation (which was my fault) the General Manager, Melanie Johnston went above and beyond to make sure I was all set. As a constant business traveler this was a nice reminder that great customer service is still alive and well. I highly recommend this hotel if you plan on heading to Birmingham for work or play.

This hotel was the absolute best that there is the staff was couteous and kind and tje rooms were amazing. Also tje bar and grill was fabulous.

They were very nice to work with our complicated schedule with being at the hospital even while heavily booked. We had two different reservations for consecutive nights that would have required us to check out and back in But they were able to just merge that for us so we didn't have to worry about it. The location of the hotel is great if you need to be at UAB. The double bed rooms are a little cramped and I wish there was a fridge in the room. But other than that it was a good place to stay.

I enjoyed my stay at the DoubleTree! I read the reviews prior to my stay and I was a little sketchy about staying there. When I arrived, the staff was very friendly! There IS free Wi-Fi! The only thing I disliked about this hotel was that you have to pay for parking & there aren't any security cameras or security but other than that this is a nice hotel, nice staff & I enjoyed my stay! The cookies are AWESOME! I hope to visit again in the future!

Hotel OK feel could have been cleaner. House keeping just did as little as necessary. Staff friendly and helpful. Our room on third floor and could hear lifts.

Our car was stolen while checking in! On August 20, 2015 my husband and I met our daughter and son-in-law in Birmingham to pick up a car. They were tired and decided to spend the night. We had three cars parked in a row in the Double Tree driveway. Our daughter and I were inside checking in to the hotel, my husband was standing not 20 feet from the car talking to our son-in-law, who was sitting in his truck. The keys were still in the car because we were about to go eat dinner. A man walked up, got in our car, put it in reverse and drove away! I have always heard that Birmingham was a dangerous city, but had no idea until this. We weren't in town for 30 minutes when this happened! To make matters worse, although the Double Tree staff, managers, and GM were very apologetic, they take no responsibility whatsoever. They have no security guard on duty, no valet attendant, and NO SECURITY CAMERAS… ANYWHERE on premises! I cannot believe there are no cameras outside or inside the lobby! My husband thinks the man was staying there or possibly walked through the lobby because he came from that vicinity. If there had been cameras, we could possibly have found out how stole the car! Of course my daughter immediately canceled the reservation. The police came and made a lot of empty promises, but I later found out that cars get stolen in Birmingham all the time. There are signs in this hotel parking garage that they are not responsible for any theft or damage to vehicles.

Eh; remodeled but still an old hotel. $189 is crazy. It's a $100 kind of place.

Great place! Hotel and rooms were fine and on part with other Doubletrees I've stayed at. Staff was courteous and gym is well equipt. Lots to do and eat nearby. There is free Wi-Fi available but it's not great. Paid Wi-Fi is reliable and same price as everywhere else.

Hotel does not offer free Wi-Fi. Hotel is gross too. Not what you would expect from a doubletree.

$5.65 for a Bud Light and $10 for internet. I'd go somewhere else. Nice beds though.

I thought DoubleTrees were supposed to be nice, but this place was a dump. The room was super small and very cramped. They had blue-tinted fluorescent lights in all the lamps which made the room feel like a cheap motel. Brown water came out of the sink when we turned it on so we brushed our teeth with bottled water. The only thing we enjoyed about this hotel was the location. Just two blocks from 5-points.

Never never again at this location. Toilet flush does not work since I arrived. AC very very very very loud.

Not a great hotel. Most expensive dive hotel I've ever stayed at. Unfriendly employee helped me at the reservation desk. Complained about whole slew of things to me including how hotel had scheduled her until late night before and early the next morning. First room I was put in had stained carpet, wrinkled carpet, the door handle came off when I was trying to open bathroom door, bathroom electric outlet had half of its cover broken off, mold growing on the ceiling, desk chair was broken, old TV. I've stayed at motels nicer than this for 1/4 the price. I didn't say anything until I discovered later that night that I didn't have internet in my room. Called front desk to ask how to connect, was given a hard time, was told that because I paid with Priceline that I was in a different "class" of a room. Told the employee what I thought of that since I was paying $250 a night. Immediately put me in a different room at midnight. This time with Internet and without most of the initial problems. Like first room, 2nd room's shower had drastically varying degrees water temperature. 1 minute, water temperature was comfortable, next it was scalding hot, then here comes the cold water! At least I had water pressure. 2nd room was a smoking room but didn't want to move because I just wanted to sleep at that point and too many things to do during 60 hour business trip. Sleeping wasn't great either because it was really hot in my room and the wall unit wouldn't blow cool air.

For the amount of money we paid, it was not a pleasant experience. — No free breakfast. — Overpriced menu at the restaurant. — No complimentary cookies. — No Wi-Fi internet (seriously? ) — Checkout was at 12 PM, but housekeeping tried to come clean at 9 AM, three hours prior to checkout time.

I was pretty disappointed with my stay at the Doubletree in Birmingham. Typically I trust a Doubletree, but my stay seemed very "off". First, there was no valet. I'm fine with self parking (since I didn't have a lot of luggage), but then I had to go back to the car to put a parking pass on my dashboard. Second, there was no Wi-Fi available in our hotel room. I didn't know there were hotels without Wi-Fi at this point! In addition, the ethernet provided was too slow to use the internet. Finally, when trying to call the front desk, no one picked up. I called several times with no luck. This stay was a disappointment and unexpected for a Doubletree hotel.
