This is a great place for a post-crematorium reception. Great staff and perfect packages. Highly recommended.

Ordered 3 main course meals which one of them was the Surf and Turf. A Rump steak with 3 King prawns. More like baby shrimp. The steak we ordered medium well but the minute steak we got was so skinny a med well steak ended up being more like my car tyre once my dog had chewed it. When I paid the nice lady at reception asked me if everything was ok which I said no the steak was terrible. My wife mentioned she was surprised that it was still on the bill: now I had no issue with that but the fact she proceeds to tell us that we sent it back too late. If someone has actually come to the table while we were eating to ask how the food was we would have sent it back then. I guess all I wanted was a manager or someone to actually note how terrible it was but that did not happen. After all was said and done I paid the bill and told that same nice lady I would leave a review on the Facebook page. She seemed not to care.

Was recommended to try the Old barn and it’s good in both aspects Tried the early bird menu with 2 courses for £11.95 ok it’s not haute cuisine but it was tasty, hot and filling 👍👍 Room was very comfortable and bed was superb had a great nights sleep Definitely will be using again on all business trips to Magor.

Happy new year, had the salmon and rice covered with a sauce, FairPlay it was brilliant, never ever tried water down rice with no taste it’s certainly one for the books, I left pretty much all of it, it was that good! The salmon was even better, crispy, very dry, and the wife was picking salmon scales out of her teeth on the way home as she had to try it as it was that lovely. All in all I gave my dish a try but I couldn’t stomach the delicious food they had served up for New Years, it comes with boiled potatoes, and boiled veg, again we couldn’t stomach the delicious flavour of these little naughty sides as it reminded me of my Nan’s cooking bless her soul she wasn’t very good at boiled anything! On a brighter note the table decorations were nice, two Christmas crackers which was amazing! The cakes we gave a miss aka desert as we had bought the very same ones from Costco for Christmas so we didn’t want to eat the same cakes again, shame really as I was looking forward to desert. Would definitely recommend the food, as it’s certainly different! Lovely staff and big car park!

The food was superb and plenty of it. I previously went to another pub and they gave us hardly any veg here we had loads. Hot and tasty you get your money's worth.

What a fantastic evening we had last night amazing staff and food absolutely first class and then a great breakfast to finish it off this morning definitely will be returning just a shame I live a hour away or I would visit more regularly.

This is a beautiful pub to eat at, I would highly recommend their meals the food was amazing & and we didn't have to wait long for our meals to be served. Big thank you to their waitress Chloe for the great service & friendly welcome she provided on our first visit, we will certainly be eating here again.

Cannot recommend the Old Barn enough. Food was amazing as always, perfect social distancing in place, plenty of hand sanitiser, friendly staff.

Amazing place to stay, large disabled friendly rooms clean and comfortable, best nights sleep. Great breakfast included in price and as much to eat and drink as you want. Bar great for a drink to unwind before bed. Busy as near to Christmas and parties just shows how popular it is. Very pleased with this overnight stay whilst visiting family in the village.

We just had our Wedding Reception here and everything was perfect, Jackie and her staff are truly amazing, all my guest loved the food and told me they thought the venue was stunning and our hotel room was amazing, I would definitely recommend, thank you so much for everything you did to make the day great, definitely went above and beyond for me and my guest xxx.

The staff couldn't be more helpful, it's a lovely little spot. Nice rooms, very comfortable beds and if you come just to use the bath it worth it just for that. One of the best hotels I have stayed in for a long time. I can't recommend it enough.

I can not thank you enough for making our wedding such and amazing, perfect day that we will always remember. The staff was amazing, the venue was stunning and Jackie was fantastic x.

We as a family come here for many occasions and they are always fantastic, the staff are so happy and helpful, the food is always top notch and I'd really recommend this restaurant for any occasion you have even if it's just a spot of lunch.

What a lovely afternoon we had celebrating my Sister in law's 80th birthday. The staff were so cheerful and friendly, the food and the service was excellent! Beautiful surroundings in the heart of the countryside and excellent flower display around the property. Would highly recommend The Old Barn, we will definitely be back.

Dreadful Sunday roast! Pressed beef, old dried up roasts and catering gravy from granules. Not to mention sullen and extremely slow service. Avoid if you want good food.

Food was excellent, shame about the service Walked in and said I had a reservation and my name, then the bartender said he would check and disappeared. A few minutes later he returned to the bar and said you are over there and pointed to a booth in the far corner rather than showing us to the table. As we started walking over he then said can I get you any drinks… I said in a moment. We sat at the table and then menus were brought to us after a few minutes and we ordered dri…nks. The drinks were brought over and then we waited again until somebody came to take our order. This lady was friendly and polite. The food was delicious can't fault it. When we finished we waited a long time for our plates to be collected eventhough the bartender/waiter had walked past a few times. We weren't asked during our meal if everything was ok either. Finally the plates were collected and we were asked if we would like desert, we all said yes please. Menus were brought over a few minutes later then we waited about 15 mins for our order to be taken. We ordered deserts and 2 teas, the 2 teas never arrived. Our dishes were not collected once we had finished and after waiting another 15 mins when a female member of staff passed I asked if we could have the bill… she quickly replied. Sure We waited for the bill. Which never came so my sister had to go to the bar to get it in the end. The 2 teas were taken off. We then went up to pay as nobody came over to take thr money.

Group of 8 adults and 1child. Food was very good. I had steak burger with pulled pork and bbq sauce. Very very filling and then apple pie with custard. It was stunning.

Good food, but not as good as usual. They've removed some of the vegetarian items from the menu since the last time I was there (typically the things I would usually order! ). The staff were not entirely attentive, and there were a lot of flies hanging around. Additionally to the reduced vegetarian options, one of the vegetarian dishes we ordered we were informed was not available, 5 minutes after placing our order.

Amazing food for very good prices. Lovely atmosphere and can't fault the staff. They're always smiling and polite and can't do enough for you. I have been here before and will continue to go here as often as I can.

I cannot express just how perfect our wedding day was! The afternoon tea was beautiful! The room was decorated perfectly! Our special day couldn’t have been any more perfect than it was! The staff were friendly and helpful! Jackie you are without a doubt the most outstanding woman I have ever met! You made the whole day so relaxed from the first appointment I had with you! I honestly cannot than you enough!

Stayed here for one night so I could attend a funeral. Arrived early for the funeral but the Old Barn was extremely accommodating and managed to juggle rooms so that I could freshen up and change into my suit. Overall the room was superb, very clean, modern and comfortable. On the day I arrived it could have benefited from air conditioning, but there was a very welcome ceiling fan. Food was excellent with a great menu and a good selection of draft beers. Would highly recommend and will stay again if in the area.

Went for dinner, had lovely food and a beautiful dessert. Only issue was a woodlouse that dropped onto my table from the ceiling! Forgivable though!

My daughter had her baby shower here and it was the perfect place for it. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and helpful, couldn't do enough for us. Special thank you to Jackie. If you want a baby shower or a small wedding venue then this is the perfect place it's absouley stunning and has accommodation. Highly recommended.

The bar area was warm and inviting, the orange area where I was attending was extremely light and airy very well presented and clean. Staff were respectful and polite.

Beautiful building and decor in the restaurant /bar and penhow suite, we stayed here on our wedding night, but the room was over priced for what it was, the bed was so uncomfortable we woke up at 6am (extremely hungover, as you do) and couldn't get back to sleep due to the bad bed, thin sheets and 1 spotlight above the headboard that we couldn't turn off (? ) we decided not to bother testing the jacuzzi bath and just go home instead. Also went to see our my brother and sister in laws room and it was cramped, dark and had stained carpets. Breakfast was the only good thing about it and even that was mediocre. Would not recommend.

The staff & owners made us so welcome the room's are of a high quality and comfortable would recommend.

Thoroughly enjoy eating at the barn or even popping in for coffee. The early bird menu is such good value. I also went here for refreshments after a funeral. It was first class. Plenty of parking. Nice outside space too to enjoy in the summer. Toilets very clean.

I haven't been here for years but I'm so pleased I came back, we ate in the restaurant and it was absolutely amazing, the food was well presented from the Al a carte menu, the staff were exceptional, very welcoming and efficient with service. I'll definitely be back more often now.

Just had an Xmas lunch, Turkey and trimmings. It's an annual event. About 20 went and the food was very nice and the service was good.

We had our lovely wedding reception recently at the Old Barn Inn. Jackie and her fabulous staff did an outstanding job! Jackie made us feel comfortable and ensured that our day would run as smoothly as possible and they exceeded that! Jackie was unfortunately on holiday at the time, but Dale and the rest of her amazing staff handled the evening without any faults. We had 50 guests and they catered to all our needs (we had vegetarian, vegan, gluten free etc. ). The food was delicious and not to mention the portion sizes for us all. I think we all struggled with our desserts towards the end haha!
We had the Penhow Bridal Suite on the night, which was very spacious and quiet. It came with a jacuzzi and comfortable bed.
We loved every moment of our day and we thank you so much for everything you did for us! Highly recommended! Xx.

For some reason this place thinks it can get away with charging ridiculous prices for drinks! I just moved from Surrey where I paid £4.50 for a Pint of Peroni and £4.75 for a double Jameson; yet here on the edge of a council estate in South East Wales they charge £5.40 for Peroni and a massive £7.00 for a double Jameson! Why? Beats me, it's a mediocre pub, they serve food but that's certainly nothing special. You even have to wait to get bar service while the barman cuts and serves the deserts. I'm happy to pay extra when the service or establishment is a bit special but this is far from either. My recommendation is try the Groes Wen up the road, far superior service, food is excellent and prices are normal for this area.

I have stayed here with work a few times and would happily stay again. The rooms are nice and cleen they offer a good breakfast and the restaurant / bar offers great food.

We were a party of 14. We were seated up in the balcony area. We had pre-ordered our food. We waited a considerable time for anyone to take our drinks order. The starters arrived but 2 children's meals were forgotten and only delivered when the rest of us had finished ours. The mains arrived not too long after. Then we waited ages for someone to clear plates and offer dessert menus. We had to go and ask someone to bring them. The food was ok. Service was poor. We arrived for 5 pm and finally left at about 8 pm. The staff were very pleasant but seemed to forget we were there. Maybe because we were up in the balcony and were the only table up there. The restaurant was fairly busy.

Friendly, confortable, well appointed, good food, generous portions, lots of parking, spacious rooms. All the features you would expect from bigger chain lodges and hotels.

Sunday lunch quite ordinary, and service speed was inconsistent​ in the restaurant. Accommodation shows the propietor has style and good taste. Decor is dignified without being snooty. The bar was comfortable: the bitter was very good once it had time to get up to the proper temperature. Some staff were friendly, others were simply efficient. Would I return? Yes, because on balance this is a place worthy of being saved in my satnav.

The room was lovely, food was nice, beer was good and the staff were great. They helped me look when my wife lost her phone and gave me something to clean permanent marker off my sons arm. Couldn't recommend this place and the staff enough.

We got married here last Saturday and we cannot thank all the staff enough! Especially Jackie, she ensured that everything ran smoothly and how it should of! Everything was absolutely perfect and there isn't one thing that we would change about it! We have had so many compliments about the food, the reception and the environment… we would definitely recommend this place to everyone for anything. The food was amazing and the staff couldn't of been more helpful even if they tried! Thank you so much for making our day as special as it was and could of been! We are so unbelievably grateful!

The staff were friendly and kind and the Venue that I attended was a wedding which was well layed out and the reception was great. The free Wi-Fi helps and was pretty good and the Buffet was brilliant. There was a good selection of drinks and spirits as well as soft drinks at the bar as well. It was all made very handy with the Contactless card machine and helpful staff who dispight the large amount of people from the wedding and there normal business managed to keep on top of it pretty well so in all. 5☆ — service, Food, reception and staff. 4.5☆ — bar service as it is quite a compact bar but I'll be fair and say that on a normal day it would be 5☆ As for the rooms in the inn I did get to see one room and I will definitely be booking it if I were to go for a cheeky weekend with the misses and that's the bridal room at the time. Big boule bed, mini balcony and a decuzy bath with TV parallel. In all great day and great place. Highly recommended.

Me and my fiancée came here to see Jackie tonight, to organise plans for our wedding later on in the year. We also booked a table to have food after. We both ordered steak with a peppercorn sauce and chips. It was cooked to perfection. Melted in the mouth. My fiancée said it was the best pepper corn sauce she had ever tasted. The waitress was also really lovely that served us. We can't wait for the wedding and would definitely recommend the old barn to anyone.

It was frantically busy with a wedding, but we were well looked after by the staff and enjoyed a lovely meal. Good menu. Not too expensive for what it is.

Excellent service and staff, had my mothers 90th family meal with guests and we all agreed the evening was wonderful, couldn't fault anything. Thank you to all staff concerned it was wonderful end to a very special day for a special lady.

The food was nice and the location is lovely. The service was a little bit slow but as we were a party of 12 and there was also a wedding party going on, we were understanding. Overall it was great and I'd recommend it.

Nice customer service, food arrived quickly and it was nice and tasty, with generous portion sizes. It was a nice end to the day. Pretty scenery from the beer garden. Will go back again.

We attended a wedding breakfast and reception there. Staff were super friendly and drink prices were great. Would have been nice to have been offered some horseradish or mustard with our roast beef though.

Terrible service. Was part of a party of 30 and waited 2 hours for food as they had clearly booked too many people in for meals that night in other parts of the restaurant. King prawn starters were clearly not king prawns, they were tiny, fish cakeS were 1 tiny fish cake on a plate. And the salmon main was shocking for the price. Tiny! When we mentioned this to the staff they did not want to help at all and had a face down to the ground. Not great service at all im afraid, just glad the company we were with made up for it.

This was a really nice surprise. We were running out of b&bs to call when we stumbled upon old barn inn. The staff was super nice and helpful. The room was worth its money. Beautiful interior, huge bed and a fantastic bathroom that was suprisingly big and looked so good! I could be going on and on about it since my girlfriend and I were really amazed. In the end I have to add :breakfast was awesome and huge, everything was clean and overall an amazing Place! We would definitely recommend it if you are visiting the area.

Staff were polite and could not do enough for us. Food and drinks were 1st class. Not to be missed.

It's a nice hotel with nice big clean rooms, a restaurant and a lovely pub attached to it. However, it has an appallingly bad noise insulation. My partner and I stayed there for a couple of nights. We could hear everything and everyone around our room. From people walking in the corridors, tv, conversations, doors banging and to our surprise and discomfort even a couple next door "at" it. After a day of sightseeing or business, you don't want much of a hotel, but a good room where you can just relax. We found ourselves awake till late hours due to the noise. Improve the noise insulation then it will be perfect.

The lunch gamon was no more than a slice of bacon waited ages for it to be served. The drinks are so over priced it is cheaper to go to. The hilton which is not that far away.
