Quite frankly, I’m appalled at the management of this company. They are willingly putting people in harm’s way for the sake of profit. Let me rewind. Some time ago, my friend booked an overnight stay at CoDE Pod Hostels’ “The Loft”, for four of us — two adult women and our two young sons — in early April. Obviously back then, we couldn’t have foreseen the COVID-19 pandemic, so when the government announced that people should avoid unnecessary travel, observe social distancing and keep away from groups, we naturally assumed that The Loft would close and we would either have our money refunded or have our booking postponed until the pandemic is under control and medical advice states it’s safe to travel and congregate again. Firstly, CoDE has decided to keep its hostels open. Pod hostels. Where people sleep in more than usual closeness to each other, and share facilities such as a kitchen, breakfast room and so on. In a city centre. During a pandemic where, and I really can’t state this strongly enough again, the government has advised us to limit all travel and keep away from other human beings. Despite my friend pointing out that she and I are both in high risk groups and have a greater probability of complications should we contract COVID-19, they have repeatedly refused to refund my friend’s money, saying that we’re “choosing” to cancel as they are still open for business.

Booked stay long time ago. Over phone. Paid for 1 night for private room of 4. Hostel says it is non refundable because we have 'chosen' not to stay. Its a pandemic and government has advised people to stay at home, avoid public transport and keep social distancing This is a hostel with shared bathrooms, shared eating areas, shared most things which we would need public transport to get to. Most restaurants are closed etc. I and friend in high risk group so need to isolate. We are following govt guidelines not 'not choosing to go to hostel'. On the phone the lady said she was following orders 'from above' not to refund and not to postpone arrangements. So have lost £76.50 for no fault of our own. Not impressed at all. Would not recommend they obviously want everybody to ignore govt guidelines just so they can keep the money. Really unhappy with this. They have still not responded to email to ask to postpone date. Bad customer service.
