Checked in to Copthorne as attending concert at Birmingham arena. Hotel was stifling hot on arrival quick checkin. We were in the woodman suite which was very spacious but also stifling hot, opened all windows that would stay open. They had a fan in room but it was so covered in dust the air struggled to get through. Top of the wardrobe very dusty. Bed very comfortable. Room very dated furniture but overall hotel was fine. Breakfast ok not great lovely cheery lady to welcome you called Sheila. Probably won’t stay again lots of building work going on bit of a diversion from train station. For the price we paid for the suite was quite reasonable considering breakfast included plus complimentary drink token each.

I’m not one to regularly leave reviews on my experiences as a customer but the excellent hospitality received by myself and presented by SHIELA at the Copthorne Hotel was outstanding. Sheila greeted me and made sure my stay over night was satisfying and made me aware of the options I had besides the set breakfast buffet. Definitely my morning on my final stay. Many thanks to the Copthorne and once again to Sheila!

Staff were friendly enough. Room was a great size, facilities were good. It did need doing up however when we went the city itself was being done up and that included the hotel. I would like to return when it's all shiny and new to see how they would've liked it as in it's current state it's a bit of a mess. A lot of the furniture was falling apart. However it was a pleasant enough stay for the 3 days we were there. We went to a gig in the city so it was really only a bed for a night and it definitely covered that!

Reception and staff were very helpful. We had an issue with the room keycards not working same as with a few other guests. They changed the room for us and it was a better location. The downside is that it is a bit dated. Most definitely needs air conditioning fitting, hence only 4 stars as it was stifling in the room, but very clean and comfortable overall.
I would stay there again.

Staff were friendly however the Club Rooms wasn't all of that… windows open, 2 fans on cold and I still woke up with an outline of my body in sweat it was that hot. Tap in the bathroom didnt work that great, to me a Club Room would suggest a little more than a free wine voucher, bathrobe & Slippers and a bottle of water. Just the decor for 1, it all seems so dated for a city attracting so much. Not great but not bad.

A tired hotel. It seemed unloved which was a shame. One of the reasons I stayed was for the gym. It was in a dilapidated state of decoration although all the machines worked except for the air conditioning. The room felt like it was 40 degrees (outside it was 25). There should have been a health warning. Add in slow lifts, indifferent reception staff and an app which you have to download to pay for the parking. On the plus side the bed was good the Caesar Salad good and the breakfast was above average. It's not enough to make me stay again though.

We stayed in the club rooms on floor 2 over looking the entrance to the hotel. Very quiet room with the windows shut, nice and dark as well with curtains drawn. Noise from neighbouring rooms was minimal with only the odd self slamming door to contend with. Interior of the room was pleasant but a little dated (mastic around the bath may have been done by a visually impaired plumber! ) Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is in a prime location for the canals, nightlife and shopping. Parking is available at the hotel BUT it is not owned by the hotel and cost £12 for 24 hours. This is a very tight car park even for the smallest of cars.

Decent hotel with competitive rates, efficient staffs, and comfortable rooms. Location is convenient and many sights are accessible by foot, but driving to the hotel is complicated due to construction works around the hotel. The hotel has very limited number of parking slots and very little space to drop-off/pick-up passengers in front of the main entrance due to the construction. As a result, I was forced to park my car in Paradise Circus Car Park, which is just across the street from the hotel by foot, but requires a 1 mile drive due to road closures and diversions. Paradise Circus Car Park charges £12 for overnight parking and only accepts coins. (How ridiculous. ) Payment can be made with an app but the app is not available to my non-UK phone. (Be warned. ) During peak hours, the wait for one of the 2 lifts can be long. There is a Singaporean Chinese restaurant on the ground floor, but the Asian menu is only available for dinner. For lunch, there is only Western food available. (We were disappointed that the Asian menu is unavailable, but the Western food turned out better than our expectations. )

Noisy with a room by the main road. No air con and smelt a little bad in the room. Comfy bed and good breakfast.

I booked a normal room and it was so old. It was like I booked an old granmas room for the night. I wish I booked travel lodge for half the price. It really needs re decorating. It had a weird smell in the room and was so outdated. The bathroom was shocking when I lifted the toilet seat up and it fell off it's hinges and hit my foot. Not pleasant at all. Bar staff was nice though.

Rooms are old style but spacious and everything works, has all amenities. Room service is good, bar downstairs very nice. Reception guys are very helpful.

I went to the restaurant only because it was told me they got a nice cinese menu available on site. Unfortunately it was too early for it. Poor customer service and the bar lunch options were very poor considering the price, the quality, taste and the kind of hotel.

After reading the reviews after booking I was a bit sceptical about going as we booked it for a girly weekend away. But we actually had a really good time. The team on reception were amazing and helpful from start to finish. We booked the club rooms which could have been a bit better which is why I haven't given it 5 stars. You would expect a bit more luxury but rooms were clean and tidy.
breakfast was not too bad. The only down side was the eggs Benedict. My poached eggs wasn't runny and they didn't give enough sauce on it but everything else was pretty good.
overall it is close to everything you need and we will definataly be back again soon.

Spotlessly clean but incredibly dated. It's like stepping back into 1980! The furniture is clearly all original and now very tatty. It really should be a 3 star hotel until its nearby replacement is built.

I can’t believe all the negative reviews, the staff were amazingly friendly, very attentive, rooms clean, food good, I had breakfast in my room, wow, a massive breakfast, I’m staying again in July, I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here.

Hotel was beautiful and food wonderful. Facilities were really good, lovely pool and spa. Rooms very clean and regular service given and really nice surroundings.

Friendly staff and great food. The room I was in could have done with a bit of redecoration but was clean and had a comfy bed. Chromecast on the TV was great and easy to use.

I went to a conference here during the day. The room was large, clean and perfect temperature. The room was well layed out with tables and chairs. The acoustics were also pretty good and I had no problem hearing the speakers. Tea, coffee and light refreshments were provided. I was impressed with the coffee. Lunch was also provided which consisted of sandwiches, rolls and filled flat breads. These were all pretty good.

I was really pleased with my stay until I realised they'd charged £60 to my debit card which they had no right to take. It doesn't matter that they can stop it being taken as it's still pending — the hotel may not have the money yet but it's not in my account either and it'll take 3-5 working days to be released back into my account. I go on holiday on Sunday and need this money to pay for that — in addition it's likely that I'll go overdrawn in the meantime as other things also need to be paid for. The hotel staff were unable to do anything to help and I left visibly upset and close to tears, having to go home and tell my partner that we may not be able to go on our holiday. Ironically I was in Birmingham for a mental health first aid course, some advice for anyone experiencing mental health issues… don't stay here.

Room was too hot even with radiator off. Option was using fan or having window open. Room itself was decent size and clean. Function room was also very hot. Staff were nice and food was the highlight as really good.

Excellent hotel. Very clean and tidy. Large comfortable room with all amenities. Staff very friendly, helpful and always smiling. Nothing is too much trouble.

Staff were lovely and friendly. Our room was comfortable and warm. Also the fruity water in the reception area is delicious. Only disappointment was that our bathroom was a little scruffy and could do with redecorating.

Very good central location, although the current tram works mean some access roads are closed. Inside a good range of facilities. I ate in the inhouse oriental restaurant and enjoyed. Staff are also friendly and efficient. Only negative is slightly dated interior, but everything is clean. Comfortable beds too.

Bad reception, and expensive parking.

We had a great Christmas works party here. The theme was a night at the Oscars and the staff were really helpful and accomodating in the run up to the event. The room and tables were laid out beautifully with a few little extras and a table plan. The music was good, with a mix of Christmas tunes and cheesy pop. The only downside was that the food was a bit disappointing (small portions and fairly standard). Not all the meals arrived together for our table but the staff rectified this quickly and were apologetic. We had a private bar but we did have to wait to be served sometimes and I would have liked a wider variety of drinks. All in all, though, an enjoyable and memorable night.

The staff were friendly and approachable. The rooms are dated and could do with a slight touch up. Smoking and non-smoking rooms are next to each other. The smell of smoke filters through to the non-smoking rooms with little difficulty.

Horrendous experience. The entrance hasn't been well explained on the website which is a problem because of all the construction around it. The quality of the interior is very old and creeky. And very cold. The toilet cubicles were broken. And the lunch provided was worse than the cheapest supermarket sandwiches you can buy. I will do my absolute best to avoid this place in the future.

Stayed here as part of a uni group participating in the worldskills event. Rooms where good, strange thing where the was no main light but two wall lights where the bed was… Interesting! Breakfast was full English with cereals, toast etc… And the dinners we had were a buffet style all you can eat so made me happy! They need new Lifts as they take so long and are just old… Was able to clime 4 flights 30 seconds before the lift made it directly down!

Staff were very nice. That's why I have rated it so highly. Exceptionally dated decor. Peculiar menu (part Chinese takeaway part pub grub). My room, while tidy, was not comfortable. Very loud air con unit, extension lead cable tied to the dressing table and a handheld fan disguised as a hair dryer. Smelt quite strongly of cigarette smoke in the cupboard as well which wasn't very pleasant. Bathroom was not finished to a very high standard either looked a bit of a botch job. Wouldn't stay here again.

Birmingham… A building site… Eventually found the hotel to be told the car park is full but there is a NCP "over there"… "Yes, the other side of the dual carriageway and all those roadworks". 20 minutes later, arguing with a parking app (guess I'll find out who won…) and then finding the car park exit door locked. Circuitous route back to the hotel and check-in. Great. Bed. Need sleep. Squeaky, clunky lift to find my door entry card doesn't work. Back to reception and manager provides another key card and offers to help. "No thanks, it'll be fine". Guess what. Can't get in… Back to reception… Two more new key cards and the manager and I'm in! I'm not worried, I intend to sleep and then leave. I'll not need to get back in. Bloody hell, it's hot! Radiator valve is busted so unable to turn the radiator off. Open window but traffic noise is full on and a loose manhole cover means I'll put up with the heat. Traffic starting to quieten down. Hooray at last something is going well! Well… Why had the traffic silenced? Because the road is closed. Why is the road closed? TO ALLOW THE FOR THE JACK HAMMER TO DIG UP THE LOOSE MANHOLE COVER! Ok, so not all this is the fault of the hotel but let me list my main areas of concern. The place is tired. Duck tape patching up carpets along the corridors. Squeaky, clunky lift — only experienced one working. Door lock temperamental. Door key cards very flimsy. Radiator valve broken — couldn't turn it off. Shower tiles not clean.

Very comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Shame there is currently construction work going on outside, though it isn't noisy.

Arrived early for training course and wanted a coffee. Member of staff who served us had absolutely no grasp of the English language and didn't even understand that coffee needs to be served with CUPS.

Reception was inviting, rooms were standard but clean and comfy. Bar was u derstagfwd and waited 15 mins to get served. Room service took an hour for 2 cheese sandwiches. Breakfast was really nice. 12noon check out was very nice too. Would stay again.

Great service polite staff room was comfortable but a little 'tired' with various scuffs and patches on walls. Bed very comfortable breakfast adequate. Note that parking is £12 for 24 hours and is very limited.

Only stayed one night, not a pleasant experience. Kindly save your money and look at another Hotel. The entire experience has been terrible. On breakfast apparently the round table is for show and not for guests. Breakfast is not even worth the visit. Save your extra money. Not to mention parking across the road is not easy to drive across and there are not maps of direction just all verbal service. Staff need training, not friendly at all and that includes the Manager. Good Points were the Beds and rooms were clean.

This is my second stay, but felt this time was ver poor. It was my 50th birthday yesterday, I arrive at the hotel with a sash a badge, even told them on booking. I did not even get a happy nirthday. We had a club double room, we were told we would get drink and snack vouchers, on presenting the voucher at the bar we were told we had to pay for snacks. We were 6 mins late to order newspapers for next morning? The guy never even tried for us. The breakfast this morning was on a different level to anywhere I have ever stayed. Awful, everyone was complaining, the trays were empty, taking ages to be refilled, the queue wears ridiculous, if you was a vegie it would of been fine, just never no sausage or bacon. Everyone was disgusted, the staff were under pressure and rude. So no I will not be returning.

Price reflects the hotel. It's cheap and similar to that of a chained budget hotel. Everything was clean and location is near on perfect. The roadworks in Birmingham make it abit of a maze to find the entrance. Food was very average.

Major road work in the area as the council is revamping the center, this cause finding the hotel a nightmare. The hotel car is tiny for such a big hotel. We had to park across the road in a NPC car park. Most area of the hotel is old and dated. The staff wasn't that welcoming not friendly. However the room was very spacious and the bed was very comfy (double room). There was also iron, trousers press, hairdryer n tea/coffee facilities. BUT because it's such an dated hotel there was no AC or fan provided in the room so we could sleep well because of the British heatwave. Breakfast was not included in the price. Whereas other modern hotel you get it included and cheaper.

The hotel is well located close to the city centre. You can reach Victoria Sq. Within 5 minutes. The canals as well as the Sea Life Centre are also within short reach. Staff were friendly and the rooms clean and spacious. I also liked the gym (small, however, well equipped). Breakfast was a wee bit expensive (~£12) but still worth it. A return to Birmingham would also be a return to Copthorne Hotel for me.

Hotel is fine, but VERY dated, lift doors squeak, windows so thin I can hear the road, limited storage in the room. Breakfast is fine, but hot food looks a little suspect. Staff are nice enough. Significant refurbishment needed.

Located in a nice part if the city, easy to get to and surrounded by interesting buildings. Near the museums, theatre and the new library with many places to eat. Rooms have all you need, comfy bed, good shower and bath, clean linen and well stocked toiletries. Lots of choice at breakfast with good quality food. All the staff very helpful.

Really friendly staff, clean rooms, good location. Stayed one night on a stag party. Glad we booked there, and we'll probably book there for the anniversary revisits! Recommend? Yeah, certainly.

Copthorne hotel is situated in the centre of Birmingham. Ideal for shopping trips business meetings. Or for groups, I. E. Stag/hen do's. The restaurant was excellent free tea and coffee and very clean. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean, well equipt, trouser press iron and board in each room. The beds were fantastically comfortable and clean. The only negative I can say is the extension plugged into the socket for kettle, iron and charging of phones, laptops etc. Is not ideal. Otherwise excellent value for money.

Difficult to get too due to roadworks, and tight for parking — however, it does have parking which is a bonus for city centre location. Location is excellent for ICC and City. Staff exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Always pleasant. Rooms looking a bit dated now, but a new Copthorne is being built. At less than £50 for the two of us, I can put up with a bit dated, as the room had everything and was comfortable.

Stayed for a xmas shopping trip. Great location for majority of bham city centre top spots. This place was spotlessly clean throughout, Service and staff were excellent. Top tip, if arriving on foot enter the hotel from paradise walk, there is a small entrance on the broad street side. , travelled as a couple.

It was excellent, but I think it is a 3 Star Hotel, not a 4 Star one. The Bathroom was Clean and tidy, The breakfast was delicious and The staff was discrete and kind to us. The beds were very comfy, and The decoration was elegant, mature and Brilliant. 4 Stars for confusing Internet Connection and only Local Channels. Location is perfect.

Wifi 5£ — too much for that unstable slow connection. As a German resident — compared to what I know from hotels here the breakfast was horrible! Room had a good size. But right in front of the room was some kind of a large power junction which was making a constant loud buzz noise… Unable to sleep I watched TV. A good TV model, but with an.

To say it is dated is a monumental understatement! Picture brown walls, green formica wardrobes and red pub style patterned carpet lovingly held down with gaffer tape and finished off with polyester curtains in a pattern best described as 'vomit chic'. The fluorescent tube lighting adds a wonderful element of brutally harsh industrial nuance as well. Obviously this type of four star luxury doesn't come cheap with parking £12 extra and Internet (as it's got a 500meg limit I dare not call it broad band) is £5 — obviously parking and Internet access are considered too high brow for a four star. The only good point is that I now have a new low in order to judge other hotels against.
