Bath Backpackers Hostel

Money money money! The people who work there (Santa Claus and his elf the manager) are more stingy than Scrooge. I had the misfortune to spend a stay at, frightfully expensive for the quality of service. The cleanliness is scary, the toilets are as radioactive as Chernobyl and the showers work just like the full moon days. The rooms are overpriced compared to the quality of service offered. First day I put my food in the place made for that I can find a little free corner and mark my initials on each stuff. What a surprise the next day when I realize that almost everything has disappeared. I ask explanations to the Christmas boss he explains that I had to write my full name and the date of my arrival and then end of my stay. What about my date of birth, my blood type and the name of my grandmother? It was nothing more than an excuse to steal my food, I hope you enjoyed my honey. Let's be honest, do not always expect to find your 5 pounds deposit if the manager is at the reception of the hotel, personally I made my bed 30 minutes late, but hey, we'll say that the note went in a box of charity to repair the sled of his master ;) a legendary strenght allowed me to keep calm that day.
There is so much to say but honestly it is not worth it. Run away…
Otherwise some of the staff are nice.

Nice stay and friendly staff. Good value for money, if you need just a bed, basic facilities, information about the city. Even if they should improve the cleaness and refurnish everything…

Great people! The staff were lovely. I was allowed to use the common room and showers even after checkout, which was great on a wet day. Don't stay here if you can't stomach some grime and dirt. The showers aren't the cleanest, nor are the rooms. But great location and nice people!

After a great experience in the Oxford Backpackers hostel, we were apalled to see the difference with this other hostel. 1. Upon arrival, they mentioned they were fully packed and that we could have perfectly ended up with no room, after having made a reservation 2 months in advance. 2. We were assigned to a room at the top floor, no elevator. This was a calvary for our disabled friend, who had to go downstairs one or two floors for toilet and four for shower. No indication of this was given either. 3. There was no Wi-Fi connection at the floor where we were assigned 4. Only two sockets, no extension lead, and the manager gave us poor excuses 5. The window was stuck, it was really hot and we couldn't move it, no solution was given (at the Oxford one, they have fans)

Very quiet and satisfactory. Worth the paid value. Localization is excellent.

I called to make a reservation, and upon informing them that the guests would be a group of 4-5 male guests, the member of staff informed me that they did not take large groups of male guests due to previous bad experiences. He then hung up the phone without saying another word.

The receptionist was quite unpleasant, the Wi-Fi was not working or his connection was very weak, the rules that make you sign when booking are ridiculous, such as not being able to make another reservation another night online once you are staying there in case in that c so out cheaper than booking at reception, pitiful.

Friendly and affordable. Safe as well. Had a great visitband would use them again. Thank you.

These two photos from the "living room" I took only when I was leaving, could make lots more of dirty toilets, dirty kitchen, doors that do not close etc. Unfortunately other things I can only describe like lingering stench all over the place, rude staff who treat the place like their own house and other people like unwanted guests. Place extremely cold and noisy. Staff stole my food!

Nice place to stay overnight. Just 2 minute walk from station. Staff is nice and helpful. You got to meet new peoples.

The one star is for the lovely French lady on reception. Room had a leak and on a whole the hostel is rough. Stay elsewhere.

Honestly the most awful accommodation I've ever had the displeasure of staying in. Dirty, smelly, dated, rude staff, hidden charges, the list could go on. I was not expecting much from a hostel of this price but this really was worse than I could have imagined. Just absolutely disgusting. Avoid at all costs.

This is a nice quiet hostel with friendly staff, great location, fast Wi-Fi, well equipped kitchen, clean rooms and showers and it's an excellent value in general. I've spent weeks here and seen the good, the bad and the ugly. It's 5 stars from me compared to virtually ALL the hostels in London.

Price is ok but the service is awful! Staff is not friendly. Check in was made in a rush. Later on, after 11pm another member of staff was really rude explaining that kitchen was closed even for a glass of water. Toilets and bathrooms could be cleaner. Common area could be cleaner as well. At least beds are ok, shower is hot and the location couldn't be better! I will come back to Bath but definitely not to Bath Backpackers!

1. Very warm n fast reception even in Christmas day. 2. Large kitchen, many utensils, big freeze etc 3. Dining/sitting room is spacious 4. Toilet n common place were always clean 5. Majority staff were so friendly specially Harry, Gabriella n Paola 6. V close to City 7. Overall the atmosphere was so comfortable.

Perfect for a group of 8 of us. Had no problems at all. Better than you might expect a hostel to be.

Shocking! Terrible experience. The room was dirty on arrival, although beds were made after announcing the state of the room, no one had vacuumed or dusted the room. I covered my bed and pillow with a towel and avoided spending time here. Didn’t shower because of cleanliness and condition issues. Terrible really. Although the lady on the desk was helpful and friendly, the gent didn’t seem to care enough. No love in this place. No hostels for me after this experience (I’ve stayed in hostels all over the world). If you do stay here, bring some wet wipes and dettol.

Location is great and the staff were lovely. Really warm and comfy beds but the room was a little cramped. Also you need id to sign in which one woman who checked in infront of us didnt know.

Staff are nice and pleasant. Price for each night is very reasonable. The place is quite cramped and some of the regular customers can be a tad peculiar.

Great stop over. Good atmosphere. Impressed with the way its run. Will stay here again. Recommended.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Perfect located in bath. Wifi didn't work that good in the 3rd floor. There was enough space in our 4 bed room for every suitcase and you can even open 2 maybe 3 at the same time. Lockers are available in every room. Kitchen and bathrooms weren't dirty but they weren't clean either. The staff was very nice and even allowed us to stay in the common room and cook in the kitchen in the day we had to check out in the morning. The people who lived there (Traveller, long term residents and most of the staff) were very open and friendly.

The hostel is in the centre of Bath, you can reach all the main attractions by walking (also the train station). The staff is super friendly and helpful :). There are lockers in every room for your valuables and plugs to charge your phone. The kitchen and common room were totally fine and convenient, the only thing that was not perfect was the cleanliness especially in the small bathrooms on floor 1&2 (might be because they are for males and females). But all in all I enjoyed my stay and totally would stay there again.

The location is really good. And it's easy to go anywhere you want in bath. And you can talk to people around the world in the TV room. It's a very interesting experience. Important, there is only thing I really anger is the black girl in the reception. She talks to me seems like I am the boss here you must listen to me. And she even don't let me change my phone in the reception that I charge two days before she is on duty. I really don't like her.

It's a good hostel. Phenomenal location. The staff is REALLY friendly and helpful. There is a parking close by which is free after 8 as well. The rooms were kinda clean. But, my girlfriend is a princess and did make a point to crib about how they weren't. All in all, positive experience.

One of the worst hostels I've ever been. People stealing eachothers beds an throwing the other peoples stuff of the bed. Way too many people in one room without any kind of ventilation (not even an open window, because other guest will close it). Not enough lockers available because they put 6 lockers in a 12 dorm room with a few of them not working. The bathrooms are very dirty, and the toilet seats are broken. In some bathrooms the warm water doesn't work, there is also mold growing under the sink. The common room is also plain dirty, there is stuff laying on the ground all over the place, with almost all the furniture broken and sticky. The kitchen also looks like it is not cleaned in ages, and there is almost no room to keep stuff there because there are people living in the hostel who use most of the room (and the hostel has a rule that you cannot store any food or drink in the rooms). I would absolutly recommend you to pay a few pounds extra in another hostel if you're staying in Bath!

Horrible! I choose it for the location, very well located. The room as well as the toilet and showers were disgusting. And very noisy till very early in the morning (6am). Impossible to have a bit of rest.

Good atmosphere in room, basic but depends on what your needs are.

Location is the only thing going for this old, dirty and expensive hostel. But considering the town of Bath is tiny, it's not saying much. 23gbp for a 10 bed dorm full of crappy beds, dirty sheets, and a few disgusting toilets for the many many people.

I would definitely stay here again. The staff was friendly and provided good recommendations. I never had to wait to use the shower. The Wi-Fi didn't work in the rooms. But the signal in the common room was very good. I stayed in a ten person mixed dorm. Very basic accommodations, but it's a well run operation and I would recommend staying here for those on a budget.

Room was pretty dirty and crowded. We arrived late because we were coming from Liverpool on the trains and there were riots so we got rerouted and ended up arriving after midnight. We knocked on the door of the hostel and had to wait a while until the staff came to the door obviously pissed off and told us we were lucky he happened to hear us because they aren't 24 hour staffed which we didn't know and had he not been nice enough to let us in we would have slept outside. We thanked him for letting us in and apologized and explained the situation but the rest of the time we were there every time we saw him he gave us a glare and told us how lucky we were again. Other than that the town of Bath was awesome!
