Do not waste your money on santa lunch worst food we have ever eaten and nothing festive about any of it cost £110.00 have emailed but they dont seem to care and havent bothered replying! got given a xmas decoration that said bot for babies or small children! after a rubbish 2020 they could of done a great job.

Very nice tea, grass area needs a slope/ramp to enable customers with walking aids to access it. Very attentive young waiter, but could do with more staff.

We had the most perfect wedding here at Shendish. All the staff went above and beyond the reasonable expectations of them to give us a faultless and cherished experience. We recommend Shendish without reservation but it may be necessary to make a reservation.

Made us very welcome, great rooms, fabulous food, some of the bar staff were clearly not up to the job but hey, we will certainly be back.

The staff were wonderful. Our room in the manor was quaint the bed was comfortable. Did have an issue but was dealt with immediately. Lisa in the bar and restaurant is a credit to the hotel. Would stay again. Thanks for making my wife's birthday memorable.

Been back a few times the most recent was a charity ball, great atmospheres, with great service, great food, a great evening, well done for supporting a local event.

Attended a wedding there as an evening guest, when we arrived the tables had not been cleared from the dinner service. The bar staff was practically non existant, 10 deep at the bar and it took over 45 mins to get served. The hall way was over flowing with dirty glasses on trollies. People were getting served spirits and mixers in pint glasses. I attempted to use the other bar as the waiting time was ridiculous, to be told the bar was closed and the bar staff were redirecting hotel guests to use the bar in the wedding area! Absolutely shocking service, weddings come with a hefty price tag and these shower of shites took the piss. I hope the bride and groom rip you apart at your wedding follow up meeting! The beer was off and you were slowly running low on the bar! Would not recommend at all for any function!

Quite possibly the worst run hotel I've ever been in, staff and management were appalling.

We celebrated our daughters first birthday there today in true unicorn style. It was so lovely and the food was amazing. Best scones ever!

Never experienced such bad customer service ever! Management no where to be seen and staff have no understanding or lack of knowledge in regards to their products, services or room facilities. If you’re thinking of choosing this as a wedding venue, I highly recommend that you select somewhere else.

Great location and the best venue for big events. I was there years ago with medical professionals celebrating success. It’s private and it’s amazing place for special occasions.

Poor customer service — left my room open after servicing. When reported — no apology given Dinner menu is limited and expensive — no prices shown. A number of mains with additional supplements on top of standard £18.95 price. Was not told about the bar menu — which was extensive and reasonable.
My colleague was brought a main he had not ordered. Poor communication between staff and also with customers leading to unnecessary errors! … Disappointed — will not stay or recommend again.

Beautiful setting in Hemel Hempstead. Good service. My Brother and Sister in-law had their wedding here and I would definitely recommend the venue for your special day. The hotel rooms are lovely big and spacious, well catered for with beautiful views outside. The staff are very helpful and accommodating.

Me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights at the weekend as we were visiting the Warner Bros Studios on Sunday and this hotel is only a 20 minute drive from there. The hotel was perfect. The staff were friendly, the room was clean, the bed was comfy and the we had control over the heating and air conditioning. We ordered room service as we arrived quite late and the food was lovely. Breakfast in the morning was buffet style, it was all very tasty and there were plenty of options to choose from. Checking in and out was straight forward. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a nice quiet few nights away.

11 of us went and although I'd previously booked with two diabetic selections the staff seemed to not know what they were doing and spent more time running backwards and forwards to our table. When the stands came out the diabetics had two rounds of sandwiches and a bowl of fruit (not diabetic friendly) also children's menu was not what was stated it was a smaller portion of the adults. Although the food was nice it was not what was stated by you so put a but of a damper on my birthday tea.

Beautiful hotel with picturesque grounds. Very disappointed with the service we received from our waitress during afternoon tea. We were blatantly ignored after querying why we weren't served the correct amount of sandwiches for 8 people. We also waited 15+ minutes for butter and we weren't offered refills of tea, coffee or water yet other guests were. We spoke with the manager, made her aware of the situation and she handled it very professionally and efficiently. Sadly we won't be returning.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We were in the older part of the manor hotel, by the cooking extracts, which attracted a lot of flies into the room. They did clear out by sleep time. If only we had some sleep. Yes it was hot, but unfortunately vans were being loaded up to 12.30am. They were loud, with shouting and large metal banging. It wouldn’t be that bad, but the hotel had delivery trucks/lorries from 6am, so no catchup on sleep. The bed was comfy, and room spacious, though looking a little tired. Breakfast has a large selection to choose from. Fruit, cereal, hot food (bacon, eggs, sausage, etc. ), toast + toppings, yogurt, and juices. The bacon was tasty, and fried eggs were good. Sausages were heavy and stodgy. Baked beans were over cooked mushy mess. The toaster burnt the toast, even on the lowest setting. Conveyor belt style, you had to reach under and to the back to get to your toast when ejected. Not ideal In white shirt. All plates were cold, meaning your hot food, wasn’t hot. I can not point out the importance of hot meal staying HOT whilst you enjoy it. Breakfast easily fixed, and some consideration with noise levels. I would not consider this hotel 4 star rating, nor would I recommend it at this time. Standards could have slipped, but easily remedied, especially for the price paid. Again the staff were helpful and friendly.

Stayed here on a Smart-Box gifted stay, staff were very attentive and waiting staff especially at dinner and breakfast were very friendly and helpful. Food was great and breakfast was well stocked and choice was extensive. The hotel itself is beautiful and the grounds go on forever and are immaculately tended. Free Wi-Fi available throughout which is very handy as phone reception wasn’t great. Only down side is there is no Aircon in the older wing but this is due to the listed status of the building and windows when opened allow a good draft and cool breeze. If you just want to unwind and relax this is a great choice.

Very pleasant lady at the bar, we had sandwiches that we ate outside. You could do with improving the patio with stands to hold the sunshades. Also the extractor fan pumping out the smell of cooking not pleasant and even the wheelie bin on patio didn’t help much. All that aside the food was good but a bit of salad would have improved the look of the plate… Can’t fault the service or the taste.
We had come to check you out for a family afternoon tea for 12 people so I guess we will be eating inside. Can’t stress enough your staff are superb.

I played this course about 20 years ago and it's only gotten better. Last time I played it was drier and needed some work, but now it's in top condition. Everything from the tee boxes to fairways, and even the rough, is well maintained. It's not very long or particularly challenging, but a great day's golf and beautiful course make this very worthwhile — not to mention the more than reasonable green fees. Staff are welcoming and helpful; very polite and friendly. Well worth the visit.

So I'm absolutely disgusted with the behaviour of this establishment. Id made a booking via booking. Com with cancellation up until my stay date, I no longer needed the hotel so I called shendish manor to cancel, they told me it was cancelled. Next they charge me the full amount because I didn't cancel with booking. Com-which they didn't tell me to do. NOT just that but when told by booking. Com to refund me as I provided proof of my conversation with shendish manor they outright lied and said they told me to call booking. Com to cancel. Absolutely disgusting behaviour, if I was prepared to call you shendish manor then I obviously would have called booking. Com if you would have told me to, so I didn't lose my money. Please can you do the right thing stop telling lies and refund me.

Beautiful grounds, attentive and accomodating staff. The choices included on the menu for dbb guests were good. We had a lovely room with a comfy bed. Close to Harry Potter studios. I would recommend this place to anyone. Buffet breakfast was of a good quality, personally I prefer to have a freshly cooked breakfast but that's the only thing that I would suggest could be improved.

Me and my wife enjoyed a wonderful afternoon. The afternoon tea we ordered was lovely. We both enjoyed the food options along with our champagne. The only disappointment was that the coffee was like warm and very strong. I would have liked the option in a cappachino or latte instead. Overall very happy.

An overnight stay was booked as a gift for my 50th birthday by my son and daughter in law. The initial experience on arrival was not a good one. I was charged (a holding charge) for the room plus £50 to cover any additional costs before we even got into our room. I explained the room had been paid for already but both staff on reception looked and told me it definitely hadn't been paid. I then called my son and had to ask the embarrassing question, had they actually paid for the room in advance to which he assured me they had. My daughter in law then called the hotel (more than once) and had a very confusing conversation and at one point was told that I had only paid £50, to which I sent her a picture of the receipt I had for £125. She finally spoke to someone else who thankfully did get the issue resolved. I received a telephone call in the room to confirm there had been a mistake and that I would get refunded for the cost of the room on my final bill when checking out. However, by this time it had caused some distress to both myself and my daughter in law. Also, our room was on the ground floor with doors doors going out to some sort of alcove where there seemed to be some sort of work going on. I couldn't open the door as there was something up against it on the outside. As it was raining I wasn't too worried about having the door open but this could of course be a fire issue if the door is blocked.

Lovely venue and beautiful room — too bad these are the only good things about it. Stayed here for a wedding that my partner was bridesmaid for, who arrived the evening before to set up tables (as was mentioned and agreed with the staff), only to find that no tables had been set up at all despite ample warning. Not the best of starts. Next morning comes and I arrive and check us in. Two members of staff were answering questions for one customer (why this needed two members of staff I have no idea), when after 5 minutes of me waiting patiently one staff member trailed off from the other, not to check me in but to do what I can only describe as: "tidy up her workspace" for the next 3 minutes, all the while still stood there patiently awaiting service. Finally, after tidying, I was checked in. The staff members communication skills were poor at best, saying that I needed to pay for "extras" when I had paid in full beforehand and did not have any extras. I eventually grasped from them that this was a deposit on the room and confirm the card details, so obliged. The room was fantastic and faultless. Dropped bags off, went to the wedding reception area, sat down and was served food. Food was excellent, and service was quick at the breakfast. The evening began and I went to the bar for a drink. Whilst I did not expect service to be quick at the bar, I certainly did not expect the bar staff to be carrying out other tasks instead of serving customers.

Lovely quiet location and very attentive staff. Breakfast is good value compared to local competitors and very comfortable beds. Some of the decor is starting to show a little wear, but on the whole a very pleasant experience.

Shendish Manor has come a long way in the last 10 years. I’ve played a lot of golf at the club and have always enjoyed it. The course isn’t the longest but it’s well looked after with some interesting features. It’s not championship quality but it won’t disappoint most golfers. I also attended a wedding reception at the the Manor recently and was taken back by the character of the place. This is a lovely venue that has something for everyone.

Stayed at this Hotel for my Husband’s Birthday. I emailed the Hotel before our stay. To request a nice room as it was a special occasion. The room was a nice size but nothing special and the bathroom was very tired and in need of updating. The staff were very friendly, the dinner menu did not have a great choice but the meal I choose was very nice. The breakfast buffet was not very nice and hot buffet was cold. The Hotel is in a good location with easy access into London.

Nice hotel but no hot water. They should have told me that they had issues. They had known about if from the previous night as some of our party had arrived a day earlier. I don't mind problems but if you know you should tell the customers. So my low rating is based around the fact that the customer is not seen as important enough to be informed about a key element of the stay.

Ideal for Warner Bros Studios and the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Good hotel. Excellent evening meal with attentive, smiling staff. Thought the bedroom (No44) whilst spacious, could do with a refresh. Chipped wood on the wardrobe doesn't look great in a four-star hotel, and the bathroom needed updating — but the room was clean. Would definitely stay again.

The rooms are a little tired and the toilet is too near the door, but staff were lovely and couldn't do more for you, with big smiles. Afternoon tea was lovely, the breakfast was good. The location is beautiful and we had a lovely stay.

Perfect place where spend few days in complete relax. The rooms are very spacious and well furnished. The place is quiet and the staff is very welcoming and professional. The food is good with an Italian influenced menù. Toilets are available also in the common area.

A great Hotel with stacks of space. Flexible with both modern and historic sections benefiting from both modern and classic guestrooms. A wonderful restaurant with top notch staff. I have attended Social and Business functions here that have all ran smoothly. Ample car parking. Warm and welcoming both in look and staffing. Hotel has a golf course and spacious grounds perfect for a leisurely stroll or for wedding photos. A excellent hotel!

Can not fault the grounds and building of the hotel. The rooms are large and well equipped with facilities including iron, hair dryer and a large tv. We also had an extra heater in the room that had been turned on prior to our arrival with it been a cold day. The rooms are amazing value for money and the hotel itself is only a 15 minuet drive from the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tours which was the out loud of the trip. The reception staff were very friendly and checked us in immediately despite arriving early.
However as mentioned in other reviews it can be quite loud at times making it difficult to sleep. Our room was situated outside the lifts meaning we were awake at various points throughout the night and early morning (whenever anyone used the lift) due to the noise level in our room.
On our second night we chose to have a meal at the hotel restraunt rather than venture out. We arrived at the restraunt at 18.55 and asked if we would be able to have a table for 2. The gentleman we asked was rather abrupt and told us the restraunt didn't open till 19.00 but failed to ask if we would like to get a drink at the bar like other guests whilst we waited. We were dressed casual (no sports wear, jeans and nice top) as we were staying at the hotel and wanting a relaxed night we chose the hotel restraunt for convience. Due to this and being a young couple it was quite an uncomfortable experience, as it almost felt like we shouldn't be there.

Absolutely enchanting place. The staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly. Our room was perfect (save for perhaps a window view of a wall and a broken phone in the room). However, everything else was such an amazing experience that I cannot dock Shendish a star. We were so tired having spent the day at the Warner Brothers studio tour & had room service delivered by such friendly staff. The dinner was beautiful followed by a equally delicious breakfast buffet the next morning. Wonderful place. Will be going again. I cannot recommend this wonderful place enough.

We stayed after visiting the Warner Bros studios, excellent location for us after a busy day traveling from the North. Lovely hotel, extremely comfy bed, super breakfast. Very pleasant stay!

Great staff. Helped us book for the night as the booking we did via travago was wrong (travago at fault) the hotel kindly sorted us out a room. The room was lovely and large. Nice and clean. Rather fancy place for a great price.

No cold water therefore no shower, day of checkout no hot water, cold shower. Large spacious room overlooking sunrise, fabulous. Would have given 5* if no problem with water. Happy with the service. Good venue for wedding.

I was there for a wedding. The grounds are stunning and the staff were really helpful. The caterer was external so can't comment on the food. There needs to be more parking which shouldn't be an issue because they have a lot of grass. Also the function room we were in was extremely hot until we asked for the AC to be turned up and then it was just hot. Apart from all these things, I would recommend it.

The hotel is situated in a great location, close to main roads and restaurants. The rooms are of a high standard, clean, well presented and the cleaning service is fantastic. The team at reception are very friendly and nothing is to much for them. Overall I would happily stay here again and recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Nice meals with pleasant staff and very peaceful and quiet. Rooms have everything you need. Just a very tired and dated feel but other than that I have always enjoyed my many stays here. Shame quiet a few rooms don't have any views.

Shendish Manor in Hemel Hempstead is a great location for a wedding which was the reason why I was there as a guest. The manor has several suites where a wedding can take place. As for the hotel itself, it is decent. The rooms are clean and perfect for a overnight stay. Staff are friendly and helpful.

A great hotel with classic features and nice restaurant.

Perfectly nice room, TV didn't work; had to turn it on and off. Ran out of hot water seconds into the shower. Had to turn it on and off to make it work, end result was lukewarm. Good enough. One pillow like a brick, no alternative. Requested room in manor, months beforehand, told upon arrival it was no go. Breakfast was ok, staff inattentive and cold. Preferential treatment for those in suits. Probs not gonna come back. ✌

Stayed here last night after our wedding paid £101 for room in cash. They wanted to take a card payment of £50 as a 'ghost' transaction as a damage deposit. They took £151 off my card as well as £101 cash so weave paid twice! Queried it that evening asked that they returned the cash we paid and just charge to the card but refused it saying the money will go back into our account the next day. 4pm today and still nothing 'there sending a fax to my bank' my ass bunch of crooks will never stay here again and God knows when I will get the money back.

Absolutely awful their company policy. BE WARNED! they will authorise another £50 on top of your bill, I stayed for £58… which ended up to be £108. As the extra £50 is authorised in case I use room service. When I checked out, I was told I would be refunded the £50 on same day as the payment coming out. So day later, i'm £50 overdrawn because they had not refunded me but had quite happily taken the payment. My bank wont authorise the payment without their consent so Shendish is holding my money from me. They wont pay overdrawn fees either. Completely rubbish service as well. The room was okay but my "DOUBLE BED" was 2 singles pushed together with a sheet over both, it's all right until you roll into the crack… crap view as well, saw all the staff having a cigarette and when I open the windows stinks the room out.

Very nice place, the restaurant service wasn't that great and the food pricey for what you get.

Shendish Manor has some of the best grounds in Hertfordshire for a wedding reception. My steel drum band performed there in May 2014 and enjoyed it.
