I got to stay at this hotel last week, and as a structure I have nothing to say. The real problem was that we were charged 50 pounds more because according to them we smoked in the room. I state that the fire alarm did not sound and no butts were found so no concrete proof. To our complaints we were told to write an email to Mrs. Sally and she would have replied Monday 16 and today still no answer. Given that none of us has smoked the issue will go ahead by legal means if the money is not returned to us because it cannot be accused without concrete proof.

Very unclean, but we can’t move out now so having to stay but would not recommend.

We stayed there yesterday, the hotel staff were very hospitable and kind. The rooms are perfect and clean with views of the Balliol College opposite and a few doors down you have the Oxford Visitor Information Centre, a number of places to eat and important landmarks to visit are close by so the location of the hotel is perfect. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely old building. Very easy to miss the entrance as there are two signs. Lots of stairs no lift. No real air conditioning in the rooms so if at the top of the building it is very warm but fans are provided. Room is clean and pleasant so no complaints. Hotel is at the centre of town within seconds of the college's.

Had a comfortable stay here last month. Hotel has an old feel to it but the room was quite spacious and clean. Only problem was getting my luggage up the narrow, winding stairs (no elevators) but the receptionist was very helpful and carried my suitcases up (and down). Location is very good-walking distance to most attractions and some nice eating places are just a short walk from the hotel.

The location is good. At the heart of the campus. But, the downside is that the noise from people on the street down below would not let me sleep until around 1am, not until they quiet down.

One of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Feels like being in an old room in an Oxford college not a hotel. All the basics right (soft feather pillows, hairdryer NOT attached to the wall, ironing board on request, Wi-Fi works, kettle. And a beautiful view of old Oxford.

Cheap and well located. Relatively clean but a bit old inside. My room had a new bathroom so can't complain. Room was relatively cold when I arrived bit they fixed it. Strange price politic that they can't tell what the room will cost tomorrow.

Well priced rooms, in a very handy location right on the high street. However as yet no breakfast is served, I went to a cafe just down the road though!

The Buttery is a reasonably comfortable and clean place to stay. It is a family run Guest House NOT, as Google lists it, a hotel! This is a major source of disappointment. It is listed as 4 Stars, but 4 Star Guest Accommodation, which has a different set of standards. I do not wish to be too down on it as it probably isn't the management's fault that Google lists it in this way, however the website also indicates it is a hotel: So I feel I need to mention that the entrance lobby and general feel of the place is a bit like a hostel. Our room was clean, but a bit drafty. There was a large air conditioner sat in front of the wardrobe. The shower room is poorly decorated and the water not very hot in the morning. The bed was very soft and squeaky, however the pillows were remarkably good. The rooms are not well soundproofed so we were woken each morning by people walking past and talking. The service however was impeccable and the staff all very friendly. The location is great. The price reflects the quality when compared to 4 star hotels in central Oxford, however if you are expecting that level of experience you will, I'm afraid, be disappointed. The main issue is in the way The Buttery is listed.

All 3 of these photos are taken from the tiny single bed in the corner. The bathroom is the smallest bathroom I’ve ever seen. Shower is scratched & dirty. Whole hotel smells like poo. Great location! Plug socket next to the bed. Not horrendous. Far from good.

Ordered flat white got a frosty coffee and got charge 50p more than any other coffee on the menu.
Should of ordered cappuccino cheaper.!

Very rude managers asking us to leave quickly after we spend more than £100, between the 10 of us.
Don't bother to came, they are more cleaner, cheaper and more nice cafe around.

You know, when a place becomes more about making money than interacting with customers, well: there you have it. The guy at the counter didn't even smile and just asked what I would have with a dry tone and attitude. Then I discovered that a mere double-expresso-sized flat white was £3.20! I drank it because I manly wanted to sit for a minute, but for the service or the setting it was way overpriced. The spoon and the cup were not spotless so I used a plastic stirrer. The taste was actually OK, but still, I would not recommend, nor come back. It's not even a fancy place!

Have to say it was very nice. Enjoyed there icecream.

Very nice food but need to be more organised. Asked for the waitress to bring the salt/sauces and had to get these myself.

Glad that we were on first floor — room was great just above the Main Street — plus we had a buggy so only one floor to carry it up to room.

Stayed here 1 night, glad it's not longer. Hotel itself is nice and quaint but they seem to have a rather draconian policy in place. You need to leave your room key anytime you leave the hotel. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows where flat. Also you aren't told the doors don't actually lock unless you do it yourself. Perfect location for sightseeing.
