Great location, good service and friendly bartender who made great cocktails!

This hotel has been amazing, they organised our wedding to a tee.
Every little detail was spot on and my wife and I couldn’t have been happier.
I would fully recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to book a wedding venue.

Great old hotel very tired in places. Room was fine, every thing you need is it it. The hotel location was great on the edge of town. The service you couldn’t fault staff very polite. I would recommend and even visit again.

It was a comfortable hotel with everything needed for an overnight stay. I would say the room was a decent size although looked somewhat tired. There were lovely soaps and lotions in the bathroom to use. Not too much noise outside from the road. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food we had from the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was extremely tasty. Overall a pleasant stay.

Stayed in room 305 — this should never be let out to anyone! Attic room with the ceiling 2 inches above your head, very warm, noisy, inadequate fan and worst of all NO HOT water! Fed this back to reception (who don’t even ask how your stay is, presumably because they are aware of the dilapidated state of the hotel), with little reaction. Even the travel lodge is better than this sorry excuse of a hotel. A real shame that people have to experience this given the prices paid!

The atmosphere and style is warm and cozy, and what you would expect from an old hotel in Cambridge. Not surprisingly, things are a tad worn. Perhaps to overcome this, they advertise that, "It's always Gin O'Clock. " Price was very reasonable at 100 GBP for a "family" room with one double and one single bed. Overall I really enjoyed the place.

Old fashioned hotel which needs updating and air conditioning but cannot do so as it is a listed building. Furniture tired and faded. Bedrooms old fashioned and dull. Not enough power points. Tiny TV with limited viewing channels. Bar very expensive. Breakfasts average. Good point is its location and it has on site parking but it is £15 per night.

Mediocre rooms. Great main course but frustratingly bland starter and desert. Salad was completely unseasoned. Surprised to see a hotel in Cambridge effortlessly whack a bit of dry rocket on a plate. They served tomato and mozzarella without olive oil and with sticky balsamic residue smeared to the bottom. Desert was clearly defrosted. Bottom pastry of Apple tart was desperately dry. A lot of my peers had the same opinion. Bar staff are uninspired.

Location is good, short walk to the centre of town. Breakfast buffet was good and included in our package. Most of the hotel is nice but certain areas need some decent DIY done to them, especially the room we stayed in.

I visited the establishment for a quick drink with my partner. When entering the hotel car park I realised that I needed a pass to get out, but this can be obtained via the receptionist. The inside of the restaurant was old fashioned, but the staff were pleasant & attentive. This location seems to be a standard hotel restaurant. As I advised I haven't eaten at this location so please ignore the alloted stars which I have provided.

2 night stay booked using a Groupon voucher. Was worried about the parking but was simple enough, park up, plenty of spaces, pay £15 per night, easy. Just wish the reception had told us how to get out of the car park rather than messing around and then being told by another resident we needed a code. It was exceptional hot weather (25 degrees both days) and when we entered our room it was unbearable. If you opened the bedroom window it was so noisy as the hotel is right on a very busy road. With the heat and noise we really struggled to sleep. We realised in the early hours of the morning that both the radiators were on! We had a small room on the 2nd floor. Shower was broken. Breakfast was very good, buffet style, cereals, continental, full english, great selection, slightly spoiled by the rude waitress that slammed our drinks down when we asked for a coffee. Superb location, 10 walk to the centre.

Room are OK but are tired and in need of modernization. Music was thumping till midnight. Breakfast was good.

What a horrible place! the reception staff are rude. The hotel needs a redo, my rooms bathroom was so rusty I didn’t stay for the breakfast I left as soon as it turned light.

Excellent break. A hotel with character. Lovely breakfast. Nice friendly staff.

For the price this is one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in on all my travels, I think my room was converted from a broom cupboard, but how convenient to have the smoking terrace for the staff right outside. The person above me clearly has a bladder problem, I’ve had to listen to it all night so will be sure to let the reception know to advise them to get medical advice when they get home, but how nice to also have to listen in on their phone calls due to the paper thin ceilings. At least I was able to have a warm beer, before they shut off all the beer taps due to chiller problems. Never, never again!

Me and my fiance booked our wedding at this venue. They were extremely hard to get in contact with and lacked in communication skills which is not what you want when the venue was suposed to come with a wedding planner. The contract stated that if you cancelled the venue after 26 weeks you will get 50 % refund if its before that you get a full refund. We made sure we cancelled before and now they are refusing to give us a refund or answer our calls and emails. We have had to get a solicitor involved which has cost us more money and means that we can no longer afford a different venue. My reccomendation is to avoid this venue at all costs. They ruined our wedding and stole our money! Extremely poor service.

Good location. Breakfast good but ran out of things too early. … no sausages to cook! Had to keep waiting for eggs, mushrooms tomatoes! Parking expensive for quests at £15 a night. Heater in bathroom not working, reported but not fixed. One set of toiletries when 2 guests staying. Tv very poor quality of picture, could only watch ITV.

Lovely old building but in dire need of a makeover. Door opened and hit the bed. Radiator and towel rail in the bathroom did not work. Shower had no power and the water trickled out of only half of the shower head. Staff were abrupt. Only one small shower gel in bathroom between 2 people. I went to ask for another one and the room cleaners did not understand English. I did finally find someone who did and she gave us 2 more. We ate at the hotel on the first night and the food was awful. My battered fish was over cooked and the chips undercooked. My husband had sea bass which was so small that we mentioned it to the waitress who spoke to the chef who allegedly stated that the portion was the same as served to everyone else. When we received the bill the sea bass meal had been deducted from it. The saving grace was the lovely English waitress at breakfast who was very helpful and kind and took time to chat to us and would come over to make sure that we had everything we needed and offered us more tea and coffee. She also remembered that I had cream with my coffee which I very much appreciated. Oh and the hotel charged guests £15 a day to park in their car park which was also open to the public. Cambridge was a beautiful place.

Dilapidated decor, not rustic, genuinely run down with holes in carpets and large cracks everywhere. Water pressure changes to the point it nearly turns off mid shower, temperature fluctuated throughout the shower and the head was that full of lime scale the water come out in all directions apart from on me. When the room at the side of us flushed their toilet we got a howling squeal from the water pipers that would wake us in the night. Curtains didn’t close fully and had large blobs of what I’m hoping was toothpaste on them. Bed was lumpy, the room had a musty/damp smell. Tried to charge me £4.20 for a 250ml bottle of water Staff were polite with the little English they spoke though but overall, waste of money. Next time I’ll be stopping in a premier inn.

Attended a New Years Eve dinner dance here. The meal was nowhere near the standard expected for the money that was paid. A vegetable dish accompanied the main course selection. We were presented with a large ugly mound of cabbages and courgettes, no other vegetables were presented other than provided with the plated choice. The dance floor had Hotel policy notices post at each corner advising " no glasses on the dance floor" this was ignored by one couple ever after having the notice pointed out to them by a fellow guest. Management appeared to ignore the fact and failed to speak with the couple once they were advised of the situation. Appreciating the difficulty of procuring staff on these occasions there was a marked variety of dress standard with bar staff at the bottom of the barrel. Off-putting from the start of the evening. Never again with this management.

Amazing hotel with a lot of history. I loved the rooms and the helpful staff. I loved the breakfast too.

What a horrible experience! The official photos are misleading: this is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in England. After enjoying a wonderful day in the city I went to this overpriced, depressingly old and tiny room to spend a sleepless night hearing the noise from the street, the rooms next door and what I think were steps downstairs? Anyway, I run away from this place fist thing in the morning (without even having a shower in the old and rusty bathroom) as I could not stand staying there any longer. The location is great but does not worth the suffering of staying in this hotel.

I recommend this place as its very well maintained. I am staying for two nights and I am sure to enjoy the hospitality as whatever little I have seen so far has been amazing.
Great ambience and amazing room with a beautiful view of thw street leading to the cambridge university dept of english assessments in english language. Some of the best and historic pubs are at a walking distance as well.

Lovely hotel, room was clean and spacious, bed very comfortable. Breakfast needs to better organised. Waitresses had no idea who had been offered tea or coffee, consequently customers were having to ask for beverages. My wife is gluten free, but this proved a problem for the staff.

Truly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The only good thing about it is the location everything else is sub standard I have stayed in better hostels — Smelly cold dirty rooms paint peeling off bath cracks in walls paint flaking off wooden unit in bathroom. — The most uncomfy nights sleep, well the few hours myself and partner managed to get mattress lumpy and old with no support — freezing cold — decor more suited to a old peoples home actually not suitable for that even — Breakfast cold not great selection both of us have been on toilet and feeling sick since our stay — rude staff Do not touch with a bargepole.

Still stuck in the 70s with a strange fausty smell in all the rooms. Comfortable beds and decent staff though. Was quite overpriced and is not as close to the city centre as expected.

Stayed at the top floor where the bathroom is very archaic. For one, you must activate an electric pump to flush the toilet. More often than not, you will get mixed results… On the positive side, the room was quiet. The entire hotel is in desperate need of renovations. Extremely expensive for 3* lodging. Location is excellent to visit University. I will select other accommodations when I return to Cambridge.

The decor throughout was classic and very nice. Central to the city with parking is of course good. The beds were comfortable too. The shower however was really weak and the staff were a little difficult. That being said for location itself if you are planning on just sleeping there and spending the rest of the time out and about it is a decent place to stay.

The hotel is well located being an easy walk into the center passing the Fitzwilliam Museum on route. The hotel is somewhat tired but comfortable and reception staff are helpful. I was visiting through the hotel's own website and secured a good deal for 2 nights with breakfast and one dinner. Whilst the breakfast was reasonably good with a good choice, the dinner offered was from a limited set menu which whilst expected, I found the choices disappointing. The offerings were made up of dishes with a lot of pasta or rice to make them seem more substantial. I therefore choose from the main menu adding to the cost of the stay, but the quality for this was nonetheless very poor, being somewhat tasteless. Whilst parking had to be paid for this was a easy and secure.

Room was lovely however I'm not sure it was cleaned well and stocked prior to our arrival. We booked 2 rooms, each with 2 people during my mom visiting from South Africa; in the boys room were toiletries for 2 people however in our room 1 shampoo/body wash and a packet of bath salt on a random place. Two of the 3 cups were dirty. We checked in late 8;45pm due to a traffic delay however once unpacked the kitchen was closed for dinner and although the hotel states 24 hour sandwiches we were not able to order anything until 11pm! The lovely reception lady tried to help and were able to offer us 3 of the sandwiches on the menu however my partner and son could not eat any of it so we ended up go to search for somewhere to get something to eat at 10 at night with a child and diabetic in tow. Drinks were nice but expensive. Overall, would not be my first choice in future. Hotel is has a great location for easy access to the city and it was really nice to be able to leave the car there to explore the city.

It's one of my favourite Cambridge hotels. It's a bit dated but everything is clean and works. It is a short walk from the city centre and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. It also has a car park which is good for central Cambridge.

Been at a course there for the past few days. Great place.

This is a value hotel but the service is helpful and friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Shame to see 1 star reviews here… Don't expect the Hilton and you'll be pleased!

A place steeped in history for a classy meal (and quiet) in the English style. Counting approx. 22-25 pound per person (see below) depending on the wine).

Had xmas meal here. Starters were poor, main course was small and poor quality and unusually I couldn't eat the dessert it was so bad. Never again and so expensive for what I paid. Would rather eat at Nandos or other fast food chain than here.

Had a groupon voucher for afternoon tea. Upsides were nice scones and tea, that's it! Sandwhiches would have been ok but bread was dry. Tiny piece of chocolate cake was definately out of a packet and the cupcake I think was probably the same with the tiniest dollop of icing on the top. There were a couple of other groups in at same time as us but there was only one waitress who spent most of the time out of sight and was not engaging at all when she served us. Didn't feel like a special treat at all. Was not a place I would hurry to go back to.

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights and were not impressed. There are multiple reasons for choosing an other hotel: * The bathroom was badly water damaged. The plumbing was constantly dripping water and the wood panel on the bathtub had soaked up enough water to look like a health hazard. Despite the obvious presence of water in the bathroom, the shower was all clogged up and did not impress (it didn't do much at all really). * The bed was surprisingly small for a hotel. It's probably a standard British king size bed, but it is too small (seemed to be roughly 1.8m long and 1.2-1.4m wide) for average sized northern Europeans. It was a bit too short even for my girlfriend. The quality of the sprung mattress did not impress either, it felt like half of the springs were about to come out. * The room lacked proper ventilation (no AC). The way of getting some well-needed fresh air into the room was through the single-glazed windows towards one of the bigger roads leading into the city. Needless to say, the choice was either noisy or stuffy and (slightly less) noisy. The corridors similarly lacked ventilation and smelled a bit like the boys dressing room in a high school gymnasium. * Breakfast was over-prized and disappointing. The scrambled eggs were a boring dry yellow mass. The bacon was dry, it even tasted a bit off one morning. There are however a few things favor of this hotel: the location, the staff, and the fact that it did not collapse upon us.

Only came here for an afternoon tea and it was awful — hotel is in need of a makeover and staff were not interested (except for our waitress who was chatty, if a little over-familiar! ). We were the only ones there and now I know why! Only two sandwiches made with dry bread and margarine, half a scone each, a single profiterole and a slice of victoria sponge that my niece could have made. Teabags in a stainless steel pot. It was so bad it was awful — never again. Please avoid.

Very poor standard of hotel. During the hot weather the heating is still on and you can't turn off and no air con either so even with the window (only 1) wide open it's still a sweat box. Breakfast was included in my room rate but so poor I only had cereal on the first morning and then didn't bother again and went else where. Would not recommend.
