Went here for company lunch. This is a quintessential English pub with comfortable atmosphere. Local beer was great. The ribeye with bone marrow sauce was amazing.

Overpriced and not very good food, at least the vegetarian options. Other than that staff was friendly and the deco nice.

We were a walk-in having been rudely rejected at the pub down the road. Regardless, the first lady we spoke to was kind, warm and funny, asking us how our day was and doing her best to get us a table. We expected a small wait, but that was completely fine — it looked like they had a lot of bookings — but it didn't take us long to be seated. We decided to share the surf and turf, as well as a half carafe of red wine, and it was fantastic, everything was perfectly cooked, the prawns came apart without any fuss, the salad was great. The desserts were also equally tasty. I can see why it's so popular here, we had a fantastic evening and would definitely recommend it. We'll absolutely be going back in the future.

Really impressed by the luncheons here; our go-to when taking clients to lunch. The conservatory is airy and bright, the staff attentive and the food is freshly prepared, and EXCELLENT quality.

Interesting and unusual menu, all tasty, in a clean and smart setting which manages to retain country inn charm and friendly service.

Travelled over 40 miles to lunch here with 3 ex work colleagues. Two salad starters arrived ok but after 15 more mintes two of us were still waiting for our squid starters. It seems the electronic ordering system had not passed our order to the kitchen. Other than the delay, starters were well received by all. Three of us had baked cod loin for main course. Fish and veg perfectly cooked but what was presented as a sort of slice of potato rosti cake was absolutely appalling. The only flavour was that earthy taste you get from undercooked potato. It was dry with a hard leathery crust. Clearly cooked as a tray bake and sliced into wedges. An experiment that went wrong perhaps — it happens, but can't understand how any self respecting chef wouldn't just bin it and offer something else. I'd have been perfectly happy with a few sauted potatoes instead. We suggested they might like to take it off the menu. Dessert followed. The crumbles were fine except one came with a curly human hair clinging to the side of the bowl. Staff were very pleasant and apologetic. Money was taken off the bill, which I usually refuse — my feedback is to help improvement, not to gain discount, but it is fair to say that they responded positively to the problems. Will we eat here again. Yes, as I want to believe this was a one off and we can all make mistakes. The key is to learn from them.

Not a happy experience this time! Seven of us in our party on Saturday, 10 January. Service very slow, drinks arrived minus water as ordered. Long wait for food order to be taken and when first course eventually arrived, soup was actually cold and had to be returned to heat up. One fish main only had three small pieces of vegetables under the fish and whilst waiting for dessert, it was then noticed that there was a “gloopy” crystal mixture at the bottom of empty white wine bottle. Was informed this was a sign of quality! Cheese board for two — two very small biscuits — overpriced. Overall poor value and service — reflects on other establishments in this chain.

Superb customer service and food even when the unexpected happens! We were having an awful day before we arrived and after we ordered they told us they had run out of gas so they couldn't honour our order and were very apologetic about it. They showed us which items on the menu did not require gas cooking and offered these (as well as our drinks) on the house. We managed to turn the day around and we left fed and very happy. Stuff happens, it's how you deal with it that sets you apart and these guys certainly more than made up for it and set themselves apart! Excellent job guys! We'll come back again.

Wonderful food. Looked good. Tasted amazing. Service superb. Staff warm and friendly. Hotel rooms are clean warm and welcoming. Would heartily recommend as a weekend away location or a midweek dinner treat when in or around Cambridge.

Great for coeliacs and gluten avoiders. Almost all the food is gluten free. The downside is the desserts suffer without the gluten, but there are huge numbers of options for gluten free.

We had a meal for two on a Wednesday evening. Lovely starter, main course, wine, and staff, including fish specials. Was slightly disappointed with the choice of dessert, but that's all.

We were served by professional staff who took the temperature at our table and acted accordingly. They were warm and playful. They were knowledgeable about the dishes and helpful with our choices. We stayed until closing time and didn't feel pressured to leave. It was a GREAT experience and I'm gushing about it in work this morning. One thing — IT WASN'T CHEAP! A bottle of House red was £23. Really? There wasn't a drinkable option in the £10 price range? I mean, the supermarkets are full of them, right?

Went to the crown & punch on the way back from my son's graduation in Birmingham so it was picked for it's geographical position as much as anything else. We all found something we liked on the menu and the service was friendly and relaxed. We would certainly use the restaurant again if we are in the area.

The food is excellent, however I was surprised how unprofessional the girl behind the bar was (young & unfriendly) and our waitress did not engage and was pretty aloof! Expected more from the staff and won't be rushing back!

Excellent food and beer. Service was good but could be better if they employed a couple more waiting staff. Not a comment aimed at existing staff, just wish there were more of them to deal with a busy service.

We had such great food here, staff were friendly, food great. I think it was some kind of hotel or bnb, we only went for dinner, a little expensive but in my opinion worth it. Food options were good, there was a specials board and a bar. Cosy, and we were left to enjoy our food with staff being around if we needed then. We'll definitely be visiting again.

Lovely 17th century inn that has been recently and tastefully renovated. Very close to Cambridge without the hustle and bustle. Staff were very friendly and provided great service. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Great pub/restaurant with a few bedrooms also available. Recently taken over by Cambs Cuisine who manage this place excellently (as expected! ) Great selection of food (with a menu that's different to the others in the group). Always busy, so booking is highly recommended. The staff are great, and very patient with our little one. Highchairs available.

I can honestly say this is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in last time I ate here was 7 years ago and I swore I would never go back. But a friend invited me to a birthday celebration there. 8 people. We had to pre book our meal a week before. The place was empty. The staff where ok at first. Soup could wine sour. And when I went to bar and asked for half a lager was told NO. There was still 6 bottles of half drunk wine and people eating. No expectation for the NO. Sorry but I will not be back there.

I attended a Christmas meal at this restaurant along with some colleagues. We had ordered the meal upfront but then we decided to have some snacks so we chose pork scratchings. I put one of these in my mouth and immediately thought wow they are hard only to find that upon the first bite it had broken a piece of my tooth. I said to the waitress what had happened and her words were "I told them not to serve them because they are too hard", which all of my party heard. I ate the rest of my meal in quite a lot of pain and throughtout the meal the waitress continually made fun of me having a broken tooth. I had the tooth fixed by having a filling the next day which cost me £55 so I sent in a letter 2 weeks ago along with the bill and have heard absolutely nothing since. I will certainly not be going back to this restaurant.

We were looking forward to an amazing Xmas Eve experience but were sadly disappointed. The ambience and staff were decent, but the food was a let-down. It all started well with drinks and salads (from their set holiday menu). The main dish, however, could be summarized as quantity over quality. A lot of food and very little finesse. We all got the turkey dinner. Unfortunately the turkey was dry and the rest of the components unexciting. The dessert (chocolate/espresso mousse) was too dense. Thank goodness for the small mince pies that came out last to leave our palettes with a decent taste. We really wanted to like them, but it would be dishonest to give a different review.

You keep pestering me, on facebook, to write a review. It is eleven months since I visited your restaurant. I am old, and I couldn't remember enough about what I had for my tea last night, to write a review about it.
What I can say is that as I don't remember it, it was neither dreadful or amazing. I also remember the restaurant being rather empty, and thinking it was very odd, which makes me think it must have been pretty good.

The changes to the decor are excellent, makes a significant difference. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch for three today the fish was cooked perfectly and the bisque was very tasty. Very competent and friendly service to complement the food. Also on the wine list the Roussanne, ‘L’ Imaginaire’ Domaine des Trinités is an exceptional wine. Definitely recommend.

I ate here last night with my partner and a few friends. I hadn't visited prior to the relaunch a few weeks back so have no comparison but I must say the decor, food and service was all impeccable. We had the pigeon to start, followed by the beef Wellington for mains, with a pineapple and lemon panna cotta for desert. The exquisite food was matched only by the attentive service we received throughout. I will certainly be returning here as soon as possible!

First drink (pint) arrived half an inch short — not a good start. Starter (soup) excellent. Main dish (risotto) average, the only warm vegetarian option. Desert good, apple and toffee crumble. Lovely setting, service was decent except the non-pint pint. For the money though? There's better around Cambridge, or go to London.
