Had an amazing experience this week at Scholar Hotel in Morgantown! The manager was so kind and funny, the room was absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere of all the staff and guests was overwhelmingly welcoming. I will stay here again, for sure!

Incompetent staff have no problem had any issues except the attitude from the staff if the company wasn’t cheap and invested in keycards that’s actually worked.

Great location (one block off High St) with free garage parking and walking distance to downtown and campus. Excellent room and top-notch staff.

Clean and classy — couldn’t ask for a better location either. I’d put this property up against a Hyatt Place any day if the week. Great overall experience.

I just slept here over night but the room was super clean and the bed was soft, no complaints.

We had such an amazing experience at this hotel and will definitely come back if we’re ever around Morgantown again. The employees were so helpful and friendly! I made a mistake on my reservation and didn’t realize my dates were wrong and the girl at front desk accommodated us and made sure we were comfortable after a whole day of driving with kids. Not to mention the room was so nice and clean.

Our room was great! The bathroom is enormous. The best feature of our room was the room darkening blind. Our first night we slept until 9:00 am and were totally disoriented thinking it was the middle of the night! Comfy bed, great pillows, plenty of towels. My only complaint is the funky smell in the stairwell, elevator and corridors. Rip out that nasty carpet and put some vinyl tile down! Otherwise, great stay!

The Scholar Hotel is the only hotel we will stay at while visiting my daughter at WVU. It has become our home away from home in Morgantown. So accommodating, clean and comfortable! The BEST location!

Unclean room. Also one cannot park more than one car within their garage ($10) regardless of informing them that you have multiple guests to a room… you will be asked to park in the bank lot across the street which has been prone to vandalism. If coming from out of town you will not know this. I asked them so when a beer bottle is thrown through my windshield from one of the bars will the hotel pay for it? (Of course I knew the answer and nobody would want to park there overnight. ) In the end, The front desk said it was my problem and were not accommodating. Absolutely horrible customer service. This is no longer recommended and not the Chestnut Hotel which had maintained clean linens, clean toilets and walls, and the air. The hallways had an unbearable stench of mold or mold remover and I have been sick with my allergies all day. Very dangerous.

Simply love this hotel. It’s updated, clean and quaint! Walking distance to so much. In the heart of downtown. I feel so comfortable here. Simply love this place.

Under new ownership formally known as the Chestnut Hotel. This place is newly renovated and looking fantastic. Plus the manager Shana always goes above and beyond for the guests and treats everyone with the upmost respect and sincerity.

Awesome atmosphere with very friendly front desk help. Bar has a great selection! The rooms were very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable! Very chic! There will be another visit! Strongly recommend!

Don't go if you expect the pool! false advertising by other travel sites not updated. We came to take our teen to a concert and loved the proximity to the main stage but the site we booked on had not updated the amenities list from when the hotel changed hands. The pics clearly showed a pool with mountain view and we even had a room overlooking the cruddy platform the pool actually was on that now looks like a barren landscape of gravel. Desk clerks were apathetic and showed little concern for our complaint. We told them that the corporate office should look into this-they will get many more guests otherwise asking for the pool amenity that travel sites still show. Rooms were spacious but had little to offer by way of decoration; pretty sparse and bare. Restaurant absent save for a tiny bistro. If you just want A room that's what you get… nothing much else. For the price? Not worth it.

We booked a room at the CHESTNUT HOTEL through Expedia. We were never informed that the hotel had changed names which made trying to local the property a bit confusing. Sadly, I booked a "boutique hotel" and arrived to find tacky hand-painted wall murals instead with sayings like "Cheers Beers & Mountaineers".
More importantly, the amenities we purchased when reserving the Chestnut were no longer offered (again no notice). No continental breakfast in the lobby and when I tried to pour a cup of coffee the kid behind the desk (the only employee I ever saw) jumped up and said: "Ummm, you have to pay for that". Our reservations included a continental breakfast (which did not exist) but I have to pay for a cup of coffee? There was a small basket with an old looking orange, apple, a single pop tart & crushed Nutrigrain bar on the front desk. Maybe that was "breakfast"?!? I purposely booked a hotel that I could grab a quick light breakfast from before heading out to our 7:30 meeting. That is what I paid for but NOT what I received.
The room was large and very nice however the air (inside the room) was muggy and uncomfortable.
With all the choices in Morgantown, I would never stay here again.

Rented out a deluxe king suite at this hotel and it was amazing. Bathroom was huge and had a jacuzzi bath for my lady and a huge shower for me. Room was very clean and the hotel was nice and quiet. Only stayed one night but will deffinately stay again next time we are in the area, In my opinion it was a luxury room at a standard price.

I hesitated to compile an email as our last visit was for my son's graduation & although completely overwhelmed by the condition of the hotel during that weekend I attempted to enjoy family and graduation not allowing the condition of the lobby, hallway and surrounding area of the Chestnut ruin our time in Morgantown.
First & foremost, the staff was simply amazing as they tried to calm many of the guests when they too found out the condition of the lobby, leaving no place to eat or congregate at all. The roof top was closed which we did have fair warning since we are frequent guests to the Chestnut but the condition of the lobby during the graduation weekend was deplorable, dirty, confusing, the little furniture there was to sit on was covered with dust so and plastic was hung everywhere. No toilets available as we waited to access our rooms (we reserved two (2) that weekend)
Completing the work to update or renovate is expected but all reservations affected by the work should have been notified or a disclosure offered. Charging fees as if the hotel was up and running as usual is not only misleading but down right bad business. There were no irons in the rooms, no hangers, no phone extension information, no information books on the desk with local eateries.
Once again I can not remark enough on how the front desk was willing to accomplish an almost impossible task by trying to calm most of the guests totally shocked about what they found upon arriving.

No no no! We did not even know this was the same hotel as the pics… they are remodeling? Will need it… was not clean. So uncomfortable we left! Would NOT recommend.

You don't really get what you pay for here. It's too expensive and breakfast was disappointing. It's a table with a basket of old fruit and a few pre packaged muffins, and a coffee/tea machine. Bed was filled with hairs, and a towel had make up on it. In the fridge was old food that wasn't cleaned out from the previous people or even before. You can have more for less almost anywhere. Dont waste your money here.

June 2018 — The lobby is still under construction, you can’t use the gym yet because they’re waiting on permits. The rooms are clean comfortable everything is brand new the beds, carpet, furniture & bathrooms. Etc. The location is convenient and parking is only $5. TIP: Pay a little more and get a deluxe room with a jetted tub, it’s got a separate shower and mini couch.

Under renovation, but the room was clean and quiet and the staff was accommodating. The parking garage attached to it is really cool, probably built in the 20s or 30s, but it's tight. No problem in a Ford focus, but it might be a little tricky in a large truck or SUV.

My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary and we loved it. The room was huge, the bed was really comfortable and it was in walking distance to many bars and restaurants. The staff was amazing and so helpful. The hotel is currently under construction and I think it will be even better once it’s finished! We can’t wait to go back!

This place was awesome. Will be back. Only hotel in Morgantown I'd stay in again. Best rooms and service anywhere. Top of the line.

This place is adorable. I feel like I'm staying at at a friend's home more than a hotel. Staff has been so friendly and helpful. Room was very nice and bathroom was outstanding. I asked for handicap accessible since my husband is in pain from an injury and I had recently broke my ankle. We were placed in a room with a walk in shower and jacuzzi tub. I couldn't have asked for more. Also, a big deal for me was how quiet the heater/AC was.

Overall, we did not have a positive experience at this hotel. So much so that we did not actually stay the entire night. The rooms were not cleaned adequately and the limited staff that was available was rude. Chocking it up to issues with specific staff members and not an underlying issue with the hotel ownership. Once the renovations have been completed and the staff has had a chance to cycle/mature I will likely revisit and will update my review if necessary. It's obviously a small business that needs to take itself more seriously if it hopes to succeed/grow. Management was very helpful after the fact and receptive to our issues with the room and service. Assured us that our issues weren't typical. This review would absolutely be a 1-star without the positive interaction with gm after the fact.

No bar, no hot tub, no restaurant. They charge for parking. Breakfast is coffee, tea, or hot choc & fruit. No juice, water, cereal or yogurt. Place is cute & staff is nice but it's under construction & NOT at all as advertised. Very disappointed.

This gem was recommended to us by a coworker. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. My 6'4" husband enjoyed the extra large shower because the shower head was high enough he didn't have to duck under it. We are definitely staying again.

Beautiful and elegant noir boutique hotel. Amazing rooms and friendly staff. Note: The 2 hot tubs/spas have been removed but still show on-line as available. This was a major disappointment for us, as we had booked it over Valentine's simply for the spas.

The Bathroom was nice and the bed was fairly comfortable. The fridge didn't work, we had to fill a trashcan with ice to keep our drinks cold. It was loud, people running in and out all night being loud and banging on stuff. It reeked of pot on our floor and in the elevator. The front desk didn't care, not even an apology. I've had better experiences in places that cost less than half what this cost.

NOTICE: Hotel no longer has a hot Tub. Downtown in the heart of the action with lots of eating and shopping around but the downside is hearing loud trucks all night. Old building refurbished nicely. Has a parking garage. No free breakfast.

I visited from Illinois for two nights and was absolutely thrilled with the room I stayed in. I have a King Corner Suite with an amazing view of the town. The decor was gorgeous, the front staff helpful. They provide free parking in their own garage, although the space is tight. The room itself was clean, impeccable, and comfortable. As an avid coffee drinker, I was upset there was no coffee makers in the room… but they have FREE KEURIG COFFEE AND SNACK BARS in the hallways! The entire stay there was awesome and there is a wide variety of restaurants in easy walking vicinity.

Very nice hotel, recently renovated to a hotel. Spacious lobby area on off street parking in downtown is a huge plus!

Near city center. Large quiet clean and comfortable rooms. AC heating is quiet which is rare.

A fun different experience. Hotel decor was interesting, really nice bathroom with glass enclosed shower and jetted tub. The area around was also nice. Many good places to eat.

Not too bad at all. It was generally clean and the staff was professional and polite.

Room was a nice size but didn't look vacuumed. Towels old and worn. Great location. Great decor. Staff was awesome! For the money I will stay somewhere else next time.

Overall it's a great place to stay even though the carpet in the hotel room we stayed in was a little sketchy this time (Room 104). Stayed here before, so this was an exception. Newer bathrooms, beautiful lobby area, free coffee/muffins in the A. M. And right behind Joe Mama's, the most happening clubs in Morgantown. Recommended.

This hotel is grossly overrated. Don't let the descriptions fool you. It seems like it may have been nice when it opened, but you definitely get the cost-cutting vibe. You're only given one towel, there's no coffee in the room, and everything on TV is pixelated due to budget internet. They advertise a rooftop cabana bar and hot tubs, but they are only open a few nights a week. Furthermore, that's a separate business and draws hundreds of college students. I love Morgantown, but the advertised "views" are the back of rundown high street buildings or the PRT (noisy outside your window) tracks. The parking is a nightmare. You either unload your things in a side door ans then park your car in a diffucult-to — maneuver garage, or carry them down a few flights of dark, narrow stairs covered in graffiti. If you pay more than $60, you're spending too much.

Hotel was beautifully decorated and convenient to the college campus. We got a really good deal on the room too. Only hotel in town I know of with a parking garage next door. Others just use surface lots that you have to walk a block or two to reach.

Loved the rooms there so spacious! And the bathrooms really nice.

The Chestnut Hotel was a unusual and pleasant selection in downtown Morgantown it's a renovated older building with an adjacent garage structure Decor is brown in keeping with the chestnut motif in lobby and rooms. Our room was large with comfortable bed and good bathroom facilities. Wi-Fi worked just fine. Hotel attracts a diverse clientele and is convenient to UWV campus. We would return. We did not get to visit roof or bar.

This hotel is old, but rooms are fairly well appointed. Direct TV doesn't provide much of a variety of channels to watch. Free breakfast, however, only consists of muffins and protein bars served in baskets on each floor with a K-cup machine to make your own coffee. Not very impressive.

The roof is very nice area to get away and do some work or entertain guests, as the rooms aren't very big. Nice room and decor. Bedding was comfortable but kinda odd as there is no comforter just two sheets with a thin blanket between them. The fridge is very small and there isn't a microwave in the room. The breakfast is a piece of fruit, small breakfast bars, and coffee. The free parking garage is a nice feature. Despite the negative reviews, I had no trouble navigating in a Chevy Lumina which is a large car. Will book again.

Unique botique hotel in the heart of downtown. Our corner room was particularly large. Free parking in hotel garage. Enjoyed an afternoon drink on the rooftop bar and coffee and fruit available in each floor in the morning.

Chestnut should be the standard for other hotels to meet. This place exceeded my expectations. Beautiful decor, clean, friendly staff. I love the dark hallways with mood lighting. Free breakfast is Keurig coffee, selection of fresh fruits, and lots of pastries. Way better then most comp breakfasts. There is a microwave in the lobby to heat up any leftovers. It's right in the downtown area, so walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. I love the eclectic decor, atmosphere and quality. Rooftop bar and hot tub, heyo! I will never stay anywhere else when I visit Morgantown!

I booked a room here while on a trip to interview with a company in Morgantown and chose the Chestnut since it was in the downtown area near many bars and restaurants, and less expensive than most of the other hotels in the same area. The room was very neat and clean and had all the amenities I would expect. Overall, the quality level met or exceeded my expectations for the price of the room.

Better rooms than Clarion Hotel but no idea why Chestnut Hotel advertises about free breakfast when they only give some smaller bars and coffee/tea.

Very convenient to the downtown High Street bars and restaurants. It was a very clean and well appointed room. It was worth the extra expense to avoid a lengthy commute after an evening at the bars. Will stay here again.

The hotel building (including the room) and garage are very dimly lit, which gave my husband and I an uneasy and unsafe feeling — especially since we arrived at night. Fruit and Keurig coffee are provided in the mornings, but the fruit presented was old and moldy. The hotel decor is very odd, and slightly off-putting — large poster sized cartoon image of a woman in risque clothing at the opening of the elevator. The room was clean, but the building was obviously old and there were flaws in the walls and doors of the room. The mini fridge was locked (? ) and we were cautious to turn the key to open it, with the fear of being charged. Overall, we were pretty excited to leave in the morning.

We were awoken by garbage trucks at 3:45am, only to see the same trucks dragging garbage containers down the street over, and over for 30 minutes waking up the entire hotel. Internet speeds are absolutely awful. Parking was a nightmare with one-way streets preventing easy access to super-tiny spots in a garage made where only a Prius can navigate. The rooms are very large. The hotel is very clean. Staff are nice. If you arrive after 8pm, good luck finding family-friendly dining within walking distance. Great location, classy, great decor. Clean, friendly staff. LOVED the jacuzzi tub. Only downfall was only half roll of toilet paper in bathroom (no extra) and selection for grab-n-go breakfast could have been a little better.

Staff was very friendly and welcoming to us. When we came off the elevator to go to our room the hall was very gloomy and dark. However the color choice was beautiful just very dark hallways. When we went into our room it was very cold no heat on, 64 degrees, in the room and again very dark. Once we found the lights we turned heat on and notice the sitting area had a lamp but with a very low bulb wattage which was like a night light. The decor in the room was okay but again very dark.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, and a great location make this a nice place to stay if visiting WVU.

The rooms were nice and clean. They offered free indoor parking which was convenient. There are also plenty of local food joints nearby.

Rooms are really nice. There are big showers beds and a tub. The breakfast kind of sucks. No hot food just free prepackaged food. The garage is free but very difficult to park in since it is very small and cramped.

The Chestnut Hotel was very nice. I stayed in the one in Morgantown WV when I had to go there for my college orientation. The staff was great, rooms were clean, and everything was perfect! I would really recommend this hotel.

Do not stay here if you have room 104 (or any room on the first floor). It is vault-like, reeks of bleach and features a view of a cinder block wall. It is far removed from the concept of boutique. Rooftop bar is fine if you are under 25, but for families a waste. Location and parking are only good things I can report. Edit: Downgraded from 2 to 1 star after we tried to sleep on the beds. Ours was collapsed in the middle in a vortex shape and overly soft. Bleach odour emanating from the linens made sleeping difficult.

The hotel staff were very friendly. The rooms were big. The only problem is we couldn't see out of our window because there seemed to be a lot of moisture between the panes. Also, the noise from surrounding bars is outrageous and woke us up numerous times.

My wife and I took a much needed get away and decided to stay in a hotel for a few nights and unplug from our regular lives. The initial reception at the hotel was amazing and the room was amazing until night 3. Apparently they rented rooms to some hip hop group which were constantly slamming doors in the halls, the halls and elevator reeked like marijuana and then finally to top it all off at 10 o'clock at night the fire alarm goes off waking up our infant daughter because that group was smoking marijuana in their room! Correction… my rating is now a 1. Fire alarm goes off at 1:30am once again waking everyone up and the staff can't figure out what's happening. The fire alarm should be notifying which zone is tripping. This is ridiculous… it is now 4am and the staff is no where to be found. They're completely overwhelmed by the amount of people here and their antics as now my wife, our infant and myself were woken up just now by 4 ghetto trash homeboys trying to flex their chests in the hallway, fighting over nothing, trying to see who's ego or penis is larger. So much for botique, so much for family environment… this place is a joke.

This place is great! We booked our room last minute and when we arrived they offered to upgrade us for free since a suite was open. Great customer service and the room is beautiful!

Stayed at Chestnut Hotel for 2 nights in March. My floor was quiet — I didn't hear any hall noise at all. The bedding is comfy and the decor is lovely. I have stayed here before and will do so again. I got a good rate from their FB page — a quality hotel for a cheap price when it's offseason!

Large rooms, very clean, and a helpful staff makes this place a must stay whenever I come through Morgantown again. Having a bar attached to the top floor makes this place even better. If I could leave 6 stars I would… Thanks Cheasnutt.

The rooms were very large and beds comfortable, but my room did not have a television remote and the front desk could not assist. Also for a new boutique hotel, I expected better finishes in the bathroom. Over all the staff was great and the room worked for the one night I needed.
