Reviews of Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place 3*
Had a great overnight stay.
Awesome spa, indoor pool, restaurant, bar many amenities.
Enjoyed our stay. Will stay here again. Clean rooms, good pillows, friendly helpful staff, and the food & drinks delicious!
Very nice, clean and the front desk personnel were very nice. It has a nice walk way outback that you can walk along the river on to the local restaurants.
Typically this is a hotel I look forward to staying at for our annual cheer competition. This visit was very disappointing. It started with walking into our room and realizing there was not a TV hooked up, just the wires in the wall. I called down to the front desk and they offered to give us a discounted rate or to switch rooms — we ended up switching rooms which is a minor inconvenience. Then go down to realize the bar and restaurant are closed as well as Starbucks. Next, the room they switched us to was an adjoining room and I could hear the others entire conversation — and they weren’t being loud and can’t forget the stomping above us. I had to turn the TV on just to fall asleep with the noise. The above were minor but the biggest complaint I have is — I requested a late checkout on the app at 8:16pm had no reply. When I called down at 7:30am the lady said they had exceeded their late checkout requests — when a fellow team member just got a 2pm check out prior. I also requested towels at 830am called again at 9:30am and never received any and we checked out at 12:30pm. I understand we are in different times with the pandemic but come on. This event brings hundreds of people every year — they should be well prepared by now. Also see picture for the dirt/dust behind the pull out sofa. Cleaning should be a number one priority during slow times.
Great hotel w/waterfront view and restaurant patio seats.
Very nice hotel situated right on the river. It was walking distance to many nice restaurants. The hotel staff was quite friendly and helpful as well. I would see definitely stay here again when work brings me back to Morgantown.
It's very beautiful for such a great price.
Best staff, super friendly and welcoming front desk personnel.
The rooms are wonderful, spacious and clean. Love the decor. Every staff member we have met, check in, valet, bartender, has been friendly, helpful and kind. Would highly recommend.
I always love returning here for both work and pleasure. The staff is always great. Only complaint is the executive lounge isn’t open on weekends…
Friendly staff — great experience.
Great, professional staff, very comfortable.
The staff and grounds are superb. So appreciate the wonderful service and delicious food.
Great location excellent bar.
Great location and a walking path right along the river.
Came to Morgantown to bring our freshman to WVU. Hotel is beautiful and comfortable, convenient to campus with a beautiful view of the river. Staff is hospitable and kind. Tucker overheard us on the way to the parking garage saying we had to go back up to the room to get our voucher. He was heading home but waited for us at the garage exit to ensure we were able to get out without a problem. Thanks, Tucker! My only recommendation is that next time bathrooms are recaulked, spring a few extra bucks for the mold-resistant kind. It’s so worth it.
Nice hotel great staff — only complaint pool area and shower had mold — needs better house cleaning.
Corlyss, Krista and all of the staff treated us like royalty! The bourbon themed bar downstairs is beautiful and has a delicious cocktail menu. The rooms are big and modern and ours had a view of the river. The breakfast buffet was perfect for Sunday brunch. Perfect hotel for a girls weekend.
Nice rooms, great valet service, delicious breakfast and fun bar.
Staff is amazing here! Love the floors! Beautiful atmosphere!
Nicely new renovated hotel however do not expect elite service even if you called before and given them your number I have yet to be upgraded and I’ve stayed there four times breakfast buffet used to be good but now it is not worth it.
We stay here each time we come to visit our son. We are elite members and really love the staff and how they do above and beyond. Krista was our bartender tonight. We were sitting in the bar area. Krista was great! She delivered our food and went beyond her duties to help us! Great job!
Nice hotel. We were there for an event, WV Tattoo Expo. The area for the event was very nice. Lit well and enough space to accommodate the large crowd. Rooms were very nice too and reasonable rates for the expo.
The restaurant and bar are outstanding! I was on a business trip from D. C. Right before football season. Great environment, very nice, professional and chill. I can only imagine what it’s like here during a home game. But if you are in Morgantown, you can’t go wrong with this hotel. Super modern! I may have to plan a weekend get-a-way. Make sure you have the Country Roads Bourbon.
Nice full-service Marriott, looked relatively new. The room was clean and large, breakfast was plentiful. The staff was friendly and efficient. The only downside is the parking garage is a bit far from the rooms (you have to walk past all of the ballroms/conference rooms.
The rooms are nice and the location is very convenient. We paid $139 per night + $15 parking. You can add Concierge room access for $20 a day. It’s totally worth it. The staff is very poorly trained. Front desk receptionist was clueless and sassy. HOTEL BAR/RESTAURANT: The bartender was nice but the waitresses were not. One of the waitresses told me she couldn’t serve us because they were closed. The bartender noticed and ended up taking our food order and serving us. There is a nice outside seating area right outside the restaurant. POOL: 2 days we were there no towels offered. There aren’t many choices in Morgantown, this is may be the best hotel the town has to offer. I recommend new SCHOLAR HOTEL, only downside it doesn’t have a pool.
It was a beautiful hotel. Our room was amazing and the hotel staff was super friendly. The only thing I didnt like was that you have to pay an additional parking fee to park in the garage because there is no other parking. I also loved the fact that they have a huge trail to walk on right behind the hotel that goes along the river and you can walk 3 minutes right to some Waterfront restaurants to eat.
Exquisite! Beautifully furnished! Wonderful service! Valet service helped since I was not familiar with the area! Restaurant in hotel is good but pricey, but in walking distance to several good restaurants! And the walking/bike path by the river was wonderful, and felt very safe! Great Conference facilities also! Highly Recommend! You will not be disappointed!
My husband and I arrived late and exhausted as we were traveling from jersey to Kansas City on a motorcycle. As we pulled up we were greeted by Austin valet attendant. Wow was he helpful! We went inside and talked to Bryan at the front desk! Another WOW for his service! He was helpful, quick, and genuine. We then went to our room and couldn’t get over the quality of the room, and the cleanliness. We went down to the restaurant area and were greeted by the restaurant manager that was so nice! He even sat us at our table and offered drinks and explanation of menu items! Owen was our main server and WOW again! Owen is exceptional at what he does and provided the utmost care to us the entire eating experience! With these folks working in the hotel I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I have ever had! The hotel should commend them for their services and also be very proud to have them in their team! These are the people that make your hotel a stunning property! Thank you to all of you and thank you for knowing what customer service is all about!
Great room! Conference visit. Staff offered sad slow service to our group, didn't have a clue as to how to put together a beverage cart, laughable really. We survived. Excellent dinner in hotel restaurant, friendly and helpful. Great appetizers, entrees and bottle of wine.
Very modern rooms. Excellent location to breweries/restaurants. Do not feel confident the cleaning staff does a good job. We had wet towels hanging as fresh towels. Also there was a bar of hand soap, but not a body bar. There was body wash, but not all men use body wash (including my boyfriend). Just seems off to eliminate a very common item from hotel bathrooms or it was never made available in our room. There was hair on the shower curtain liner and mold. It definitely was not our hair since I was the first to shower and I do not have short black hair.
Great place great staff they had a lot going on this weekend and handled it very well! Kind and courteous staff I was very impressed ❤️ Highly recommend!
My boys and I stay here almost monthly. We have been doing so for almost 4 years. We went through the changes and the newly renovated property is top notch. The staff here is exceptional from top to bottom. Any issues we have ever had have been handled quickly and efficiently. It's location is great and has nice amenities as well. The new rooms are probably the nicest in town. We Would gladly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in morgantown.
On March 23, 2018, we were originally trying to stay close to a concert venue at Clarion, but it sold out. We are so glad that it did. We paid a little more for this hotel, but it was worth every penny. The staff was extra accommodating. We were able to shuttle over to the show, get an extra hour to check out to enjoy the hot tub/pool, and the room was fantastic. It was refreshing to have everyone generally trying to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We do not go to Morgantown very often, but whenever we go back we will be staying at this Marriott. Thank you to the staff.
Clean and great staff. Rooms are beautiful & modern. Comfortable beds. Hotel restaurant's food was very tasty. If you enjoy a good bourbon ask their bartender to make the smoke infused bourbon drink. You won't be disappointed.
Nice place. Very expensive. Was working there with spa show went to get coffee, they told us $35 per gallon could not give us a cup.
I was only visiting for a meal and coffee, but the facilities were top notch and it appeared to be a great place to stay. Excellent location for proximity to campus.
I've stayed in a bunch of places in Morgantown over the years and the Marriott is definitely the top of the heap. Will definitely be back.
Large clean rooms. Right on the water. It was a beautiful place to stay.
I spent 70 nights in a hotel last year, and thinking back on it, this was the nicest hotel I stayed at. Thoroughly modern, good location, quiet, comfortable bed, great fitness center, excellent meeting facilities, and reasonable room rates. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Rings are very clean need was comfortable. Event we attend was great. Staff was awesome.
Best hotel in Morgantown, get the view on the river. Oh, and try Resturant on ground floor. It’s worth it.
Very clean. Spacious. Staff was amazing. Friendly and accomdating. Food was good. Olexa spa is on premises and they are absolutely wonderful. We will definitely be back soon.
Only ate at Restaurant. Prices were high but food tasted fine. Not worth the price though. How does a 32 dollar steak not include at least a single side?
Excellent rooms. Scenic location along the river. Attached parking garage is easy to use and helps during inclement weather.
The Marriott was recently renovated, and it shows — everything is beautiful and spotless. The bathrooms are modern, the rooms are comfortable and spacious. The mattress, pillows, and bedding were all very comfortable.
Beautiful hotel. My room felt more like an apartment. Desk, bed, sectional sofa, and spacious bathroom. For reference it was a king city city view room. Had dinner at the hotel restaurant and my steak (medium rare) was cooked to perfection, one if the best I've ever had. Oh, and try the smoked bourbon, they smoke anything on the list.
Very nice hotel and the bed was amazing! I would skip the breakfast. Not good.
I have stayed at this hotel many times prior to the renovation. I feel they did a fantastic job of renovating the main lobby and the Bar areas. I did not get a chance to eat in the restaurant on this visit. The room we had was facing the river. It was nicely renovated and the large screen TV is a great addition. The beds were of that great Marriott quality. The parking attendants were especially helpful, friendly and professional. Major improvement here for a first time impression. Only area that needs improvement that I could see is the Concierge Staff. Since this is an area where many of your Guests frequent a Marriott hotel and expect the “above and beyond “ service. This Marriott is not up to this level. We also had breakfast in the morning there and the food was not Marriott quality. The sausage was the worst. Great selection on the OJ. Also, it was nice to have an Expresso machine. The Staff needs to be more in tune to their guests.
I would however highly recommend this Marriott because I feel the next time I’m there the Concierge Staff will be properly trained.
Very nice upgrades in common area from my last visit. I attended for a training class. It was well marked and easy to find. Refreshments were provided. Excellent experience!
Room was so nice! Loved the walk in shower! Also attended and presented at a conference, great set up with rooms and tables, no issues with sound or lighting. Great experience!
Morgantown Marriott is the best hotel in the whole state.
Attended the Hops on the Mon Beer Festival. The hotel was more than prepared for the large crowd that showed up. I wasn't sure if a hotel was the correct venue for an event like this but I was proven wrong. Great job by the Morgantown Marriott Waterfront Place.
This recently renovated property is by far one of the best I've seen. The rooms are abnormally large, decor excellent, and the concierge lounge is huge. The staff was great, I couldn't have asked for better.
My family has stayed here many times in the past when we are dropping my daughter off at WVU. I've never written a review, not that it wasn't nice in the past, but this time was different. About 20 minutes away from the hotel, our SUV broke down. It was about 11:30 at night. I called the hotel and spoke to Ricky. He told us he would have the shuttle pick us up. Not only did Otis pick us up, he helped us load all of my daughters belonging into their shuttle, then helped us unload at the hotel. The next day, we reloaded the shuttle and they moved us to her apartment. They went above and beyond to make a difficult situation more manageable. I want to thank everyone for their kindness. We will be back! I should add the newly renovated rooms were beautiful.
Had to walk far to get to area serving breakfast. During our morning meeting it would have been nice to have coffee in the meeting room. Lunch was very nice and served right at the meeting room. Once again, it would have been nice to have coffee and soft drinks in the afternoon session. I know this is probably related to the people organizing the event and not the fault of the Waterfront.
The rooms are spacious, and provide great value for the money spent. The restaurant and bar are awesome, and have great food choices. They have a Starbucks in the lobby, and a small shop for snacks and drinks. Great place to stay if in Morgantown for business or pleasure!
I am a platinum premier Rewards member. Which means I travel quite a bit, this was one of the nicest hotels I've been in in a good long time. The M Lounge is the new version of The Concierge Lounge and it's new hours we're quite a nice surprise. I will only stay there if I'm back in Morgantown.
My husband and I spent the weekend at this Marriott when we attended Mountainfest, a motorcycle event. While there, my husband became very ill. We decided to go to the emergency room but we were on motorcycles and needed a ride. Ricky, the front desk person, was able to get the Marriott's shuttle to take us to the emergency room. Otis, the driver, was very attentive. Later on, I needed to go to the drugstore for a prescription. Greg, another shuttle driver, not only gave me a ride to a local drug store, but also waited for me as I got the prescription filled. The next day, when I saw Ricky at the front desk, he asked how my husband was doing. I couldn't believe he remembered me and asked about my husband. Overall, we had a fabulous stay. Not only were the accommodations nice, but the willingness of the staff to do whatever we needed, made our stay absolutely wonderful. We would definitely recommend this place to people and we would definitely go back.
The Morgantown Marriott Waterfront Place is fantastic. The recent renovations are amazing. This was first visit but from what I've been told this is a night and day difference. I've been traveling about 60-70% of my time since June and this is by far the nicest Marriott I've stayed in during the last 6 weeks (I've been at 8 hotels, 5 have been Marriott). I had a corner room. It was extremely spacious. It had the comfy king-size bed and stellar pillows that I love. Huge 55"+ HDTV, couch, desk, fridge, etc. The bathroom was is great. Large shower and soft towel were appreciated. I'd stay here over and over again. My interactions with the staff were always pleasant and everyone here was extremely helpful. If you're in the area for business or pleasure, don't hesitate to book your stay with the Morgantown Marriott Waterfront Place.
With all the traveling and conferences I do with work, this was hands down the best by far. The staff was phenomenal and the rooms are great. Conference center was very comfortable and spacious and the food was wonderful! Would highly recommend!
The hotel is spacious and well kept. The staff is courteous and professional. This is probably the nicest hotel in Morgantown.
Marriott has redone an already beautiful hotel and made it gorgeous and modern. My stay has gone so smoothly and the staff had been wonderful.
The hotel provided a great snack selection and a nice boardroom for our small meeting. Very friendly and very helpful.
Fantastic room. Newly remodeled and amazing. The staff was very professional. Will recommend to anyone staying in the area.
Nice place. Didn't stay there personally but had family in town and they were quite pleased. I would recommend to anyone else visiting the area. Only drawback was the restaurant is closed currently to renovations.
I've actually been there several times for various events. Great staff and chefs. They also have a playground and workout area behind it as well as the rails to trails next to the river. Pretty good place.
Everything was great except the hardwood floors in the rooms. They are amazing at amplifying the sound from the next room over from the gap under the door that links the 2 rooms (is usually coveted up with the carpet. Other than that is a great location, amazing staff clean rooms and I would recommend it.
Didn't have space for buses to park, but then were also friendly and helpful in finding us an area anyway. They advertise a bar and grill plus the rat pack bar and they advertise bring open until 1am. Upon arrival there was one very awkward tiny bar that was just sort of places in what otherwise looked like a conference room. They closed at ten. They are doing construction on the whole lobby/main floor area, but that alone doesn't detract any further stars for me. The rooms are very modern and luxurious.
We had my sister's surprise 30th birthday at the spa. It was absolutely wonderful. Jen did a fabulous job at coordinating everything with me the week of the party. She is a definite go to for planning! She had the spa decorated with mimosas and cupcakes. It was such a fun, relaxed, and memorable day! All the girls were sweet and attentive. Will be back for sure! Katelyn Lockwood Pifer February 7, 2016
My daughter had her 2016 prom at the Waterfront Place Hotel on May 7. Outside there are steps leading down to the railtrail. We took lots of puctures there because of the beautiful scenery. Beautiful trees, grass was well maintained and green, and the river in the back round lookedd awesome. The ball room was also very spacious and beautiful. She had a excellent time and the staff was very nice and pleasant to talk too. Overall the night wasna huge success.
Sunday buffet is very good. When the family is in, this is where we often go. Although it is a buffet I think the servers should be less anxious about getting bill paid and collecting. It was a bit bothersome while talking and enjoying my time with others to be interupted to complete that.
If you want to screw up your wedding day go here. It was such a traumatic experience. I got there before my reception ceremony and there was no one there to do my hair and makeup despite booking all this weeks in advance. Had to wait around an hour for someone to finally come in to do it. The makeup was horrible and made them redo it and still was not right. On top that they were not clear on the total price. After paying for the services before leaving I got another bill in mail for the same amount I had already paid. Then they told me that I had only paid half of what I owed despite being told by the cashier that everything was completed before leaving the spa. Such an unprofessional organization. I will never use them again.
Attended 2016 JV/Novice Nationals debate tournament hosted by WVU, an event I was helping manage. The conference center attached to the hotel was spacious, well-appointed, and hosted many comfortable conference rooms and salons that were most useful for the activity. The hotel support staff handling the catering were respectful, polite, and helpful, accomodating any requests with a high degree of courtesy and an affable demeanor. The quality of food served for the event lunch catered by the staff was prompt, tasted pleasant, facilitated vegan and vegetarian lifestyles, and was set up in a timely and effective way. Excellent experience overall.
The room/hallways/elevator all smelled so strong of chlorine and urine that my eyes burned. I was charged $30 more than what my bill states, then I was accused of smoking in my room and was charged another $250! I am a breastfeeding mother, I DO NOT SMOKE! Cannot get anyone to return phone calls, horrible! Will never return!
Worst hotel I will never stay nor recommend anyone to stay at this disrespectful ass hotel they charge me $250 because my friend came to my room smelling like smoke she smells like smoke because she has a medical condition and stead of them asking if anyone was smoking in the room they billed me so now I'm pursuing a lawsuit against this hotelI would never recommend anyone to go here I will expose this hotel for the stupidity of not coming into the room when I was there to see if anyone was smoking in the room instead they went based off of a smell.
This is a really nice place in Morgantown. It's right on the water with trails that you can walk and bike on. There are a lot of good restaurants within walking distance and there is an affordable parking lot (getting anywhere else will require driving). This is one of the main areas for conventions.
I've had a massage here years ago and loved it! The fact that you got drinks, a robe, and could get a shower after the massage just made it feel like a real spa! However, my boyfriend got me a massage and manicure package this past valentine's day (writing this in late). The package included a 60 minute full body massage with a chocolate scrub and the manicure included a chocolate scrub for your hands. Anyway, I get there and they send me to get my manicure… yes, manicure before my massage… doesn't make sense. Anyway she was nice and we talked and once it came time for the chocolate scrub she rubbed my hands and my forearms. But once it came time to getting it off, she said usually we would have you go wash it off, but our water isn't working… omg… so she came in with 2 hot towels trying to get this dark chocolate scrub off and it was just an awful mess. I hate my hands being dirty or being sticky, which was exactly what I was experiencing. There was little brown pieces all over and once she started the manicure she kept having to dig underneath my nails to get the remaining brown scrub out and away from my cuticles. Once the manicure was done, I only had it dry maybe 3 minutes and the massage therapist came to get me… just a mess. I get laid down and ready and she comes in and starts the massage but says she'll try to stay away from my fingers since the manicure was, for some reason, done before my massage.
Very good hotel but it needs a free breakfast.
The hotel and room was nice and clean but the long walk to and from the car was ridiculous. The part that ruined the stay was the chainsaws in front at nine am.
To say my experience was not one of the most pleasant. It started with the Valet's out front (Alex), very nice young man, we were asked if we needed help and I replied maybe, wait till I go and check in. Upon return he would not even give us the time of day! So we took our own bags to the room after being ignored. After registering and finding out that there was a $6 parking fee or a $10 Valet fee we choose the $6 so we didn't have to deal with Alex. Parking was at the other end of the Event Center almost an 1/8 of a mile from the parking garage to the elevators. The room was nice and clean with no fridge? The Regatta Bar and Grill (hotel restaurant) is were we ate, nice clean, service must have took lessons from Alex. Sat for 15 minutes before the server approached to take our order. They had a buffet that was very good and hot. Back to the server she kept forgetting to remove our dirty plates until we asked her to. Our feeling is the design of the parking so far from the hotel makes you almost want to use the Valet parking as not to walk so far. Very poor.
I bought a $150.00 gift certificate for my wife to the Waterfront Spa & Salon located within the Waterfront Place Hotel at xmas last year (2013). The gift certificate states that it expires in 2015. She recently tried to use the gift certificate and was advised (after informing them that she had a gift certificate when she made the appointment and after receiving her services) that the gift certificate was no longer valid due to a change in ownership of the spa… that is located within the hotel… So, neither the hotel nor the spa would honor the gift certificate. What a scam! Although my wife had no complaints about her services, when she asked the hotel management about the problem she was advised that the Waterfront Hotel wouldn't do anything to help. No room credit, no bar/restaurant credit, nothing. Bottom line here is that you should not buy a gift certificate, for anything, from any business in the Waterfront Hotel in Morgantown, WV, and CERTAINLY NOT the spa! Evidently the spa is just a revolving door of owners and the chances that you'll end up stuck with a worthless gift certificate seems fairly likely. The hotel is evidently just a shell and a name for fly-by-night businesses to use. Very shady of the hotel to allow businesses to use its name and then claim to be unassociated with them.
We stay here every time we are in town simply for the location and the fact that the rooms are clean and fairly modern. The regular floors are fairly noisy on football weekends, but we've stayed on the concierge floor the last couple of times and it's worth the extra money for the peach and quiet. The suites are nice as well, with plenty of room for a family. The breakfast buffet is definitely overpriced unless you eat many plates worth, but the food and service is good.
This hotel served it's purpose. However for the price the least they can do is offer free continental breakfast. Workout room is very nice. Parking not connected in any way to the hotel so if you want something from your car you have to walk outdoors which in our case was not ideal as it was pouring down rain. All in all was ok for A one night stay.
Use to be my favorite hotel in Morgantown, I always stay at a full service Marriott or Hilton for the extra's this used to be an alternative because it was the only full service hotel in the city. Wow have things changed, I paid an additional $30 to stay on the "Concierge" floor to find out there is no loner a Concierge and they don't provide you water, soda's etc so when I asked the GM what was I paying extra for he told me I got a breakfast coupon upon checkin; $30 breakfast? The fire alarm went off at daybreak and we were forced to leave the hotel; once outside apparently the alarm had gone off 6 times all hours of the night several days prior. The rooms are still nice rooms, however the service has gone really down hill since the last time I stayed. I won't be back, can stay at the Residence Inn $70 cheaper.
