beautiful old New York style hotel. Fantastic cookies right across the street restaurants and bars not far away.

This is a great place if one wants to stay in Manhattan. Friendly staff and fantastic location. Lots of great restaurants nearly. I’ll come again :)

Great Upper West locale and friendly staff.

I stay at the Lucerne each time I come into town and recommend to friends and collages, this time it was a horrible experience. I specialize in Customer service, and Quality assurance and was appalled by Edwin and his lack of soft skills. This was my last time I will stay at The Lucerne. He was rude, lack of empathy and no regards for customers.

Outside didn’t look very nice but it’s because they are doing some remodeling, other than that the hotel is nice, people at the front desk is nice and helpful, the room didn’t have a refrigerator but I asked for one and they send it to my room right away. Nice place to stay with a metro station steps away.

I stayed at the Lucerne recently, and I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. One thing that particularly struck me was the fragrance that was sprayed in the room, which for some reason reminded me of the cologne of a (non-specific, general) man with whom I'd like to have sex. Between that and the soft lighting of the lamps in the room, a mood was set that I was only sorry I could not take full advantage of, as I was staying alone. But it inspired me, and I will mos…t assuredly keep the Lucerne in mind for potential future liaisons. So thank you for that! (Also, I inadvertently left two items in the room after checking out, and I called the hotel to hold the items so I could come and retrieve them while I was still in the city. Sure enough, when I returned after my event several hours later, the items were there, and the front desk staff was immeasurably helpful. Because of that, the Lucerne will forever have a 5-star rating in my book. You guys rock!

On the whole this is good hotel although it needs refurbishing. Beds are old and too high for me. Staff is their best asset … very friendly and polite. If there is a deal very worth it, otherwise too expensive!

A very nice hotel on the Upper West Side, not far from the American Museum of Natural History, and it is very easy to get around the city with connections from the subway located less than a block away. The building is beautiful, built in 1904 and the room’s décor fits with the exterior. The staff are friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel itself is very reasonably priced. Hopefully once they fix the second elevator (only one was working during our stay), this should definitely be a place you consider for your stay in NYC.

Two elevators and only one is working for the third day. Aging hotel… time to upgrade the elevator system. Hottest days I've experienced outside so would be nice to not wait in line for the lift or take the stairs. Front office manager says there is ‘nothing’ they can do for our 5 night stay. ~US$300/night.

A great location in one of my favorite areas in the city. The hotel itself is an older building with a bit of history to it, yet the rooms were clean and quiet. I’d recommend this for a night or two.

We stayed one night as a family, my husband, my 6 year old and I. We found the hotel to be amazing! We got into the city early, and they held our bags for us. Check in was smooth. The room was clean. It was small, because it's a hotel room in an old building on the Upper West Side! The bathroom was very clean too. Amazing, consistent water pressure (a pet peeve of mine). The room was overlooking 79th Street, so we had some city noise, but that's to be expected. I can't say enough about the staff. From the folks at the front desk, to the bellhops, to the housekeeping staff, everyone was willing to do whatever they could to help us out. The restaurant downstairs had a great breakfast menu. The location was amazing, a quick walk from the subway station, and not far to the AMNH and the Met. No fridge in the room, which would have been convenient, but it's not a deal breaker. Overall a great experience, we'd stay here again for sure!

Top location right next to Central Park. Subway in the immediate vicinity. Very large room. Very clean. Large beds. Helpful staff.

The rooms are very well furnished. The bed is a standard double bed, and very comfortable. There is no mini fridge in the room, which does not bother me but perhaps for others it might. The hotel itself is a great location, just down the road from a metro line and near some nice cafes. Overall, a decent hotel for the price and I would stay here again. Edit: it is apparently possible to get a mini fridge by request. Wish I knew that before!

Absolutely loved staying here. My room on the 8th floor was spotless and spacious. The staff, from the doormen, to reception, and housekeeping were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Location was excellent with subway a couple of minutes walk away, excellent restaurants everywhere and delis like Zabars so close. Can't wait to come back!

Do not eat at the hotel restaurant it is over priced, the portions are small and not consistent. The food is either undercooked or overcooked, sometimes too salty but seldom fresh. The french fries are saggy and dark an indication that it was previously Frozen and cooked in old oil. Managers are rude, not accommodating even the juices are put in a glass that has extra thickness walls in the bottom half on the inside to hold less juice than it appears, very disappointing.

Great location. Just a few minutes walk away from Central Park and easy access to other sites to see. Clean rooms. Good Service. Great cafe next door. No free parking. Hey it's NYC. Nothings free. JFK Airport is 50 minutes away by taxi. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Great location close to Subway. Very nice employees. Only issue was that shower stall was very small and it was a chore to move around for showering.

Loved this hotel! The location was perfect for us — easy to access public transportation and within walking distance of the Natural History Museum, Central Park, and several other great places. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We will stay there again on our next trip.

My daughter (under 10 yrs) and I stayed here for two nights. What a lovely experience! Quiet, safe, spacious, friendly and cozy. Let's not forget convenient. Don't hesitate to stay here!

From the time we checked in, it was a great experience. Friendly staff, always asked how we were doing. Room was very clean and the hotel was in a great location.

I wanted to like this hotel, but the management and service was disappointing. We booked through a third party site, and once we arrived we knew we were going to be staying only one night instead of two like we reserved. We mentioned it to the front desk person and he didn't tell us about the hotel's cancellation policy, he only said that we'd have to go through the third party site and likely wouldn't get our money back. But we did call and canceled the second night and were able to get the full charge taken off for the second night, but after communicating that with the hotel they said they'd have to charge us the early departure fee. This was just an hour after checking in mind you. If we had known the policy (which we specifically asked about when we checked in) we would have communicated that initially and changed our reservation right away, but we were told by the front desk person to go through the third party people. Even after asking and saying it was not communicated clearly, the hotel person said they couldn't do anything and that they were actually giving us a break by only charging us the early departure fee. This is horrible business and we'll never be staying with them again. I don't recommend this hotel.

I would say, by my standards, this is not a luxury hotel. It is nice. The staff was courteous and attentive. Room service was marginal at best, especially considering all the wonderful food available in this area of NYC. Room was nice and clean. The shower was spastic. Scalding hot one second and freezing cold the next. I probably will not stay here again.

Cozy clean, staff seem friendly and are helpful. Little noise being on the second floor but not terrible (ive experienced much much worse in the city). Few minutes walk to a lot of great places to eat and entertainment. About a 6 minute walk to the beacon theater.

Great location. Liz, the concierge was wonderful! Rooms were clean and spacious with high ceilings. Great view from 12th floor room. I will definitely come back. :)

Lovely hotel in a great neighborhood. The staff was friendly and the lobby and rooms were very clean. Front desk was helpful and check in was quick and painless! I would definitely stay again!

Wonderful iconic and tranquil Hotel. Wonderful staff and attendants with great attitudes and a zest for helping is clients. Love is close proximity to all the spots of interest, including Shake Shack. Don't miss the opportunity to stay here.

The staff at the lobby is absolutely rude, disrespectful, and rude. Not recommended if you want to receive a respectful treatment.

Worst customer service I have ever received at a hotel. We have been loyal guests of this hotel for years. We stayed here and the AC in our room did not work, blowing warm stale air. A kind staff person came up and agreed with us it was not operating, suggesting we contact the manager "for some kind of comp arrangement. " We informed the manager, at the staff suggestion, only to be treated disrespectfully, with a hostile tone and accusatory suggestions, claiming that we should have contacted them earlier, essentially interrogating me with questions like "did you or did you not tell us yesterday about this problem? No? Well then there is nothing we can do for you. " When I asked why that was relevant she said "I asked you a question! Yes or no! Did you or did you not complain about this issue yesterday?! " What the heck? Somehow the manager felt that since we had not made complaint before a certain point, that our complaint was not valid. I would highly recommend you find better accommodations nearby. I have to assume there has been a change of management as the staff here has been a delight on our many, many previous stays.

Beautiful rooms, lovely service and so central. Loved the crown moulding, the bed headboards, desk and sitting room. Such an awesome experience to stay there during our trip to New York City!

Good hotel near Central Park, it's ideal to visit NYC being very near to Metro station (line 1-2-3) and Natural Science (Museum and metro station). We stayed in a comfortable 2 king size bed room with no minibar and TV. Newspaper for free on request and free Wi-Fi. Nice French restaurant beside the Hotel entrance. 24h shop across the street.

Very convenient to the Beacon Theater and a variety of restaurants. Recently renovated, our room was tastefully appointed and being away from the street, quiet. To give a frame of reference, the standard room was big enough for a queen bed, dresser and flat screen but not a mini-fridge. Plus a full bath with excellent water pressure and hot water. A nice feature was the free room safe. Staff had a few miscues but nothing ruinous. Would stay again if I need a decent place on the upper West side.

Out of all of the hotels I stayed at this trip, I enjoyed the Lucerne the most. I was exhausted aftter taking the overnight bus, arriving at 5 am. Despite the heat and humidity, I made the trek to the hotel from Port Authority hoping that we could check in early. After walking for 45 minutes, carrying my luggage with my clothes sticking to us, I was done; making a terrible first day of our vacation. When we got to the hotel, I was able to check in about 10 hrs early. It saved the first day of my vacation, and I will forever be grateful. The hotel staff were always courteous by saying good morning or welcome back whenever I exited or returned to the hotel. My only complaint would be that the rooms were a little small. I was staying in a two double bed room and there wasn't much room for anything else in it. I definitely enjoyed my stay at the Lucerne and would choose it over a hotel near Times Square in a heartbeat.

My girlfriend and I spent a few nights in NYC. I chose the Lucerne based on the location and the positive reviews. We were impressed with the hotel. Front desk staff were great. Liz the concierge was very helpful and quite knowledgeable. Our room was very clean, housekeeping was great and we enjoyed the doormen service (nice touch as it was very much like the hotels way back in the day). The short walking distance to the subway was perfect. We would definitely come back to this hotel, on our next visit again to NYC.

In a time when trendy, chic, hotels get all the attention in New York City, basic warmth and service are not considered a priority. This grand dame may be a bit dated, and the furnishings a bit worn; but I'd pick this hotel over the trendy spots every time. As a frequent traveler, there's nothing more important than hospitality and service. So if service is a priority for you, The Lucerne is one of the finest hotels you'll find in New York City!

Went to New York for the first time May 18th — May 25th. Loved the location. I was a little shocked at the size of the room, but knew that was to be expected with New York hotels. That was especially apparent if we ordered room service. We always had to have our trays on the bed. Robert at the Front Desk at night was always super nice and helpful. Every employee was very nice and we got excellent service from the hotel staff. The only negative was one instance with room service. Nice Matin provides room service, and we ended up ordering three separate times. And while the food was really good, we ended up cancelling one of our orders for coffee and sparkling water that didn't arrive after over an hour. It does say in the menu that orders take 45 minutes, but I thought that was a little ridiculous. I also feel that the ordering process could be improved upon. I only say that because I work in a hotel's food and beverage department and was surprised that there wasn't really a script that room service would say when you call in an order. I would come back to this hotel, I loved the location and the staff a lot.

Great location if you're interested in being in a less touristy area, and don't mind hopping on the subway a few stops. Loads of restaurants in the area, plus Zabars and Levain Bakery (yum).

The staff was very helpful at check-in and held our bags since we were early. When we arrived later to get the key, the staff noticed we had a bottle of wine and sent up glasses. The room was excellent with windows on 2 sides. The bed was comfy. I would definelty stay again.

I really enjoy staying at this hotel! The service is courteous and location is wonderful! Rooms are clean and well kept.

There was a renovation of the lobby that started the day after we arrived. The hotel didn't give us any warning and we would have stayed in another hotel if we knew. The paint fumes made her sick. The room was very small, the queen bed barely fit and the bathroom was always very cold, colder than the room, as if it was adjacent to an outside wall with little insulation. One elevator spots with a jerk at every floor, the other works fine but both doors don't open the full amount that you would expect so the first day I was always running into the door on the way out. There renovation made it dusty and my wife, who was pregnant at the time slipped from the dust on her shoes when stepping out of the elevator. Room service, which is from Nice Matin closes earlier then advertised every night and on our anniversary night they closed a full hour early at 10 p. M. I would recommend going to another hotel that does not rely on a separate business for their room service.

Very hospitable staff. I came to do massage for a client through the massage company I work for, and the massage room is very nice and cozy. Will definitely enjoy coming back.

The room was very nice (nicely sized for New York, also), all of the staff was very friendly, and it was located right next to a wide variety of restaurants as well as a Subway stop that goes straight to Times Square. Perfect!
