This is a palace with all that it entails the decoration is loaded but beautiful the coach line bar and a nice place where there is often music you will find upstairs a hair salon run by a Frenchman it is one of the best salons in New Y ork where stars and personalities rub shoulders in a place dedicated to relaxation.

I decided to spend a relaxing evening at the Carlyle watching TV. Or nearly $700/night. But the TV didn't work (faulty remote which the engineer decided not to replace until his second visit). But when thee TV worked the channels were blurry. Finally I called the front desk and asked the supervisor, Lorena Olizandesa, for a reduction in my room rate and she responded with stony silence, No help there. So my advice is no tot be fooled because this is an iconic hotel (JFK and Truman slept here). Make sure the TV and thermostat work before you let the bell-person leave, It was for me a sad experience as I always idealized this hotel which is only a few blocks from home where the same TV server (Spectrum) has no problem at all delivering working TV service,

Every year when I was young my mom would take me to see bobby short this is a great place to see a show and have dinner during the holidays it is like a different planet you get treated like royalty I miss you bobby.

One of the best places to listen to Jazz… if you are lucky to have Woody Allen on the piano then it will be an unforgettable experience! Classic and one of the top 10 things you must do in New York!

Love it. Pianist plus the dining experience is really good. Gets crowded, Expecially the bar have to get there a decent time to get a good seat. Unless you know the bartender added bonus.

We had a very nice birthday brunch for my aunt at the Carlyle. The food was good — but it's best for people watching.

A historic hotel but that would need a complete new setting. The rooms are outdated and not always in good condition. I suggest to find a way to restore the breakfast and buffet, in addition to the one to the paper. This infatri takes more time and not always you have the necessary calm. Reception staff very friendly and helpful especially Lorena.

Old-fashioned but with style, a little too much into old times with liftboys and such… reminded me of the marvellous Mrs Maisel. N. Y. In the 50ties2

One of our favorite night spots… however this time was not a great experience at all. We’ve been there so many times but not on a Saturday. We were seated promptly and waited for over a half hour To order our drinks… finally got them only to be told that there was a $25 cover charge per person at 9:30 or we would have to leave. We paid immediately and as we were enjoying our drinks the manager approached our table and said we would have to leave! I explained how long we waited for drinks and we’d like to be given the same amount of time to finish them. He walked away. Never been treated so poorly!

Wonderful amazing staff. Waldo was such a superb concierge. He was very interested in getting to know exactly what we had in mind for our stay and helping us find the best places to mingle in the evenings. Room was HUGE, very clean and quiet. The hotel even offered a babysitting service! Awesome. Total 5 stars.

Visited a friend's apartment. Beautiful and timeless architecture. Impeccable service. Historic space. A New York City landmark.

Stopped by for coffee and cocktails after visiting the MET. The atmosphere was great, Bemelmans artwork on the walls was supremely charming, drinks were good and service was excellent as well. Lovely place.

Really nice decore and live jazz music was one of the best in area. Unfortunately it is really small for such a popular place. Waiting time is long. It is one of the more pricey place in the area too. Cover charge at bar is 15 and table is 35.

I have never in my life been so embarrassed and mortified anywhere. This evening my husband and I stopped in for a drink and to hear the jazz music in the Bemelmans bar. Our song for 37 years of marriage has been “ Stars fell over Alabama “. We asked the pianist and singer to play which they graciously and very well started. We — as always — stood to sway and slowly dance by our $50 cover charged table. At NO time were we ever told or was it on the web site this was not permitted. The club manager immediately came over and in front of at least 25 people told us to “sit down”. We were startled and confused and asked what he was saying and he said again loudly in front of everybody to sit down. We did, I started crying and left for the lobby and my husband asked for the bill leaving our drinks. He had several patrons come up to say how rude it was they were acting this way and I asked for the manager. It was awful. They hotel was so rude and did not apologize just said we could call the “daytime” manager. We were treated incredibly badly and told by other New Yorkers this hotel and bar was not a place to go. We will take their advice and hope others take our experience to heart.

Place is amazing. Elegance at its finest. Wonderful food and drinks. Entertainment that fuels the soul. Service was stellar and thoughtful. Highly recommended.

It is beautiful big and with rooms inmemorable.

Every employee here is so polite, well mannered and majestic. The room service food is not the best, but the service provided by the workers are. I didn't hesitate to get familiar with them because they have great recommendations. The hotel is only a short distance from Central Park for a great walk and peace and quiet. Overall a great stay at a fabulous hotel.

A little inconvenient because of the street construction. One of the few remaining classic girls with am outstandingly attentive staffed.

Finally went to Bemelmans Bar. Had one of their signature drinks, it was delicious. B Note that there is a dress code, but that's why it's one of the last of the great piano bars in the city. The murals alone are worth it. Be prepared to overspend, suck it up and enjoy while you can.

I went to the bar with three other friends for a drink. The cocktails were delicious and the servers are friendly. Overall the atmosphere is very nice and the live music was superb.

I was visiting a guest staying at the Carlyle and I didn't stay long, but it's a beautiful hotel with helpful and friendly staff.

For years I have wanted to stay at The Carlyle. As I was returning to the states having sailed the Queen Mary 2 from NYC to the UK I stayed one night at the Carlyle. I was not disappointed! The staff… from the front desk, to the elevator attendants, to the doormen, to the Bemelman staff, to the breakfast staff… everyone made our stay absolutely wonderful… even if just there for twelve hours! The room was nicely appointed and we were very comfortable. At the club, I was disappointed that many intoxicated women were singing along with the performer and allowed to act as they did… screaming and making quite a noise. Considering the cover charge, I would expect a more refined clientele and a staff that would keep people in line for the enjoyment of all. Nevertheless, I would definitely stay at the property again… but probably not go to the club.

We have enjoyed this first class act hotel so much. From check in to cafe carlye dining to bemmelmans bar to breakfast to high tea it has been a real The customer is always first experience. You are treated like a king and queen here. We were fortunate to stay in the James Cagney suite! Can u imagine if all these walls could talk. I feel like we are stepping back in time. A time of real glamour yet in a low profile way. I am in awe of this magnificent NYC beauty and the fine gentlemen in their white gloves. That take us to our designated floors. I can't wait for the two of us to return.

Staff was very accommodating and nice, and place has an interesting history. Although I was surprised how uncomfortable the bed was to me and my fellow guest. The furniture in our room was in poor condition and in need of cleaning and repairs, probably beautiful pieces in their day. I found the sofa to be stained, the upholstery was tattering and the filling in the cushions was lumpy and uncomfortable to sit in. The staff did their best to make our stay pleasant and tried to make the bed more comfortable by changing the mattress and inserting a board under the mattress to give more support. A really gorgeous hotel with wonderful staff, very unfortunate that the furniture in the room was so uncomfortable.

This was once my go-to but the last few stays have been mediocre. I used to get a kick from the JFK glamour stories, but lately the rooms feel more Reagan 1980s. And while most of the staff are lovely, when I walked into the room tonight at 10:30pm, the cleaning lady was inside on her phone. I just wanted to get some sleep so she left… but no clean towels, no water, no amenities. Sorry to say, it's just not worth the $$$$ anymore.

Arrived at The Great Carlyle Hotel! When I made our reservations I shared with them that we were celebrating Madeline's 16th Birthday! Guest Service met Madeline and I at Check in welcoming us and wishing her a Happy Birthday We were escorted to our suite and in our room Madeline had waiting for her an embroidered pillow case with her name a Madeline book, a book bag and a box of chocolates Than there was a knock on the door and it was room service delivering a piece of chocolate cake and lemonade wishing her a Happy Birthday with a Happy Birthday song A few minutes later as we were enjoying her cake and lemonade and feeling very special and another knock followed and it was Sonal guest services and she brought Madeline a bouquet of balloons and a formal Carlyle Journal for her to journal her 16th Birthday Experience here in NYC She shared with us That Presidents and Princesses had stay at The Carlyle as well as gave us a tour of the hotel and the art work that people come from all over to see. God is Great What a WOW arrival for such a special Person my Madeline Amen.

Wonderful space and a great show (Chita Rivera! ). They pack the space, but it really only adds to the experience. Wait staff treats everyone like royalty, and the food was delicious. Spring risotto is creamy and loaded with truffle, and the opera cake should not be missed.

It was the best. On void ' A very Murray Christmases ' every Xmas! We're going to go back every time we is in New York.

The Carlyle is a special place. Service is always exceptional. Bemelmen's Bar and the Cafe Carlyle are venerable treasures. So one must forgive signs of age to a point. But the old girl is showing signs of wear. The hallways on room floors are really falling apart. And there was a smell of raid. And elevators are brutally slow. I hope they make the necessary repairs. But I do love this place.

Afternoon tea was a delight, had a wonderful time. Good and services were superior.

I was greeted and naturally I asked a lot of questions. Yes I was allowed to photograph without flash as long as I did not take photos of the hotel guests. Sounded reasonable to me. I particularly enjoyed the photos of the famous guests. President Kennedy's and Jackie's photos across from each other. The concierge told me they were taken at different times. Not the same visit to the hotel. It appears to be a popular hotel for politicians. There's a photo of Bill and Hillary in their young days. Also Nancy and Ronald Reagan in their glory!

Very good hotel not too far from where the action is. Excellent restaurant. Great experience all in all, not cheap though.

Rooms were ultra comfortable with zero outside noise.

Coasting heavily on former glories. Vastly overpriced given the condition. So many things are broken faulty or noisy as hell. No idea why they waste money on lift attendants.

If any of you are looking for really good hotel deals I would check out HotelRaven. Com I saved a ton of money using that site. Classic New York luxury. This hotel is truly timeless. I had the pleasure of enjoying drinks with friends in the lobby a few days ago. Live music played in the background as perfect cocktails were poured and enjoyed. We were sitting in the back, away from the windows. I turned my phone off, closed my eyes, and for a minute, felt like I was sitting in 1940s New York. A very cool feeling few hotels can actually achieve.

We recently stayed at the Carlyle. As beautiful as the hotel is all three rooms that we rented for four nights had many issues. A running toilet that leaked on the floor, no hot water in the powder room, I had to sleep with my head at the foot of the bed because the mattress was so broken down plus more. We mentioned the issues three times to no avail. We asked for an adjustment on the bill (a complementary drink or breakfast would have been nice while there) and the response was an upgrade the next time we visit. That's unacceptable and impossible as we will not return.

Fall from grace. Note that on trip advisor or here the better reviews are from 2008, 2009 — when I felt it was the best in NYC as well. My recent experience here was awful. Rooms have not been renovated in 30 years and are no longer charming — just dirty. Old staff is still as charming and helpful as ever, but the newer staff and managers are downright inconsiderate and unhelpful. They are faster to lecture you than assist you. The gym is appalling, The bright spot is the Cafe and breakfast — but that is one of the few holdovers from a far grander age. Unfortunate there are so many better options in the $500-1000 a night price range that there is simply no justification for staying there.

Without exception our experiences have truly been the essence of luxury. Accommodations, Dining or Social Cocktails at the lounge all have been delightful through the years.

I have enjoyed the Cafe twice and the restaurant once and enjoyed the experience. But on May 13, 2014 I used a Travelzoo coupon for the prix fixe dinner and was ignored by the wait staff. I did complain to the hostess who took it upon herself to serve my wife and I. I felt humiliated. I have used Travelzoo coupons at the Four Seasons and LeMeridien and Sofitel with excellent results. I did email the hotel and called the hotel manager but have not received a response! Needless to say, we will not return.

Well, what can one truly expound on, when all amenities, staff, and non-expectations were truly surpassed — — to a veteran world traveler, and a frequenter of legendary luxury hotels spanning the globe. I am one of the lucky ones, who back in the day, was greeted upon arrival by the G. M. And his dedicated staff. The owner himself, Mr. Peter Jay Sharp, a leading Manhattan hotelier and real-estate developer, (I won't go into trivia details to bore you to death), had left me a personal, hand written note. However, just to say, the view from my two bedroom suite (yes, I had two guests in tow), welcome frivolities, and the warm feeling that pervaded inside of me, that I had indeed had arrived home. The late Bobby Short held forth back then nightly in his "saloon" cabaret. We feasted on supper after his performance, and the ambiance transported us back in time. And why in the "whirled" would I have known to pack "black-tie", back then, is beyond me. The doormen always took great care to make sure we were looked after once we stepped out into the "real" world, and one always had the underlying feeling welling up inside, that we could not wait until we were back, "home", and safely ensconced in our apartment suite. Room service was sublime and superlative! Housekeeping even hand washed a shirt that I needed for the next day that needed laundering.

Just recently I stayed at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC. Let me tell you it was phenominal! Excellent service, Great Food, and it is in the perfect location on the Upper East Side. The showers are my favorite, its like a mix between a shower and a massage. I Definitely 100% recommend it. Go to the Carlyle this Summer! :) Hope this Helps.
