Great room. Central location for site seeing. Very friendly staff.

Very nice staff… but room was just okay for a deluxe and the bathroom had a nice shower but absolutely no space around the sink to lay your toiletries out. Very nice bar with a super nice bartender but you cannot get any food in the hotel yet which really sucked especially when your drinking and would like something to eat. We visit NY alot since my daughter lives here and right on the same block but next time we will stay somewhere else.

Central, cute, comfortable. View… depends on it. However, it's worse. In 4 minutes you're on the 5th and all empire. Ditto x times square. 15 min walk. Top position.

We stayed 4 days for our honeymoon trip. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and very important thing when you're abroad. Breakfast is very good! Much better than some hotels in Italy! I highly recommend it! Then located in the central area! Sooner or later I will return to New York because there I left the ❤️ and will surely return in this hotel!

The location is great, right by Times Square. The hotel could use some renovation, but we enjoyed staying here during our visit.

The hotel is located in the center of Manhattan, 3 minutes from 5 Avenue. I stayed here two times when I visited New York. It's really a very good location. There is nice cafe opposite of hotel, where you can have breakfast. One time I have a very good room with nice view and very big bathroom. Wifi is free. I suppose it's a very good choice if you visit NY.

What we didn't know was that they require us to check out with luggage at 11 am on the 31st and there's no way to leave our bags any longer. The room too is a bit odd. The bathtub doesn't have a plug so no baths. There's a randomly locked cabinet in our room too. That apart, we love the location. It is so close to everything in midtown and we can walk to Penn Station as well as Port Authority. The rooms are of a good size too, and if you ask for a room with a view — they do ensure you get a nice one. We have a corner room and can see the Empire State Building.

Hotel was quite outdated (They still had old televisions, phone on bathroom wall! ) but we got a HUGE room (as far as NYC standards are) had a nice view of Empire State Building as well we were the last guests to stay there before they closed in dec. 31st!

Very comfortable. Good location. Would miss a buffet service but for the price is Ok.

They let us check our bags super early in the morning. The front desk staff should get an award for dealing with a super angry irrational guest. They handled themselves and the situation with style and class.

Economical and good service. Good location to travel to places of tourist interest. It is small but it covers the essential necessities.

Great hotel right on Madison Avenue. Very central location. In walking distance to Gran Central Station. We had a room with a view of the Empire State Building. Staff at the front desk super friendly and helpful. No breakfast on offer, which is not bad. The staff were very nice and the breakfast was good. Very good value for money.

A great foothold in downtown NYC
I was at this place with my girlfriend during our trip to New York. The hotel is located in a central area of Midtown Manhattan one block from 5th Avenue and 4 blocks from Grand Central Terminal Station. The property is a bit dated but clean and well maintained. The rooms are quite spacious with television and bathroom in the room. The part overlooking 38th Street offers a nice glimpse of the city even if you hear traffic noises at night. The staff has always been willing to solve our every request. Some employees also speak Italian. I found this hotel the right compromise between an average spend and the convenience of staying downtown in NYC. The only flaw, but from what I understand is a common habit in America, is the absence of breakfast in the fare.
Recommended.

The staff was Great, but said it had restaurant and bar, It didn't. No coffee anywhere in building, or food, Was part of the reason we booked hotel. But they did inform us that there closing down for 2yrs on Jan, 30 for renovation.

Well in cleanliness.
Bad in heating. They have a falcoin and when it's working it's horrible the noise it gets.
There is not a place inside the hotel to have a coffee although on the sidewalk is Moonstruck and Piccolo café (the latter is very peculiar, although we liked it).
The location of the hotel is great.
The reception service is appalling.
At the beginning who attended us was very interested in take the bus to go up and down where you want, but then he passed the interest and more than reception service seemed expulsion service.
Anyway, the Spaniards think we expect more from a hotel than that chain.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Pretty clean in the room at least. It lacks and a lot of maintenance and updating. We booked waiting for an old but renovated NH style building, nothing to see! Those who expect an NH experience will not go.

The rooms are not clean, not cleaned before we arrive. We found residue on the shower head that fell on us. The sheets had not been washed.

Good hotel. Heat in the room is not the most reliable and the toilet seat won't stay up and the shower is half covered and water comes up. But otherwise it is a cozy hotel with a terrific location.

Close to amenities. Definitely in need of refurbishment. We ordered the deluxe room with a view. View was great, deluxe room not so much. Would have considered this as a standard room. Staff and bell men were helpful. Bed was old and needed replacement. Furniture was damaged and in need of replacement. Cordless phone was straight out of the 80's. Only spent time sleeping here. Wouldn't have wanted to spend anymore time there. Lobby smelt like old stale cigarettes. Price was right at the time of booking but comparing to other hotels in the area I should have made alternate arrangements. Don't be deceived by the flashy website promoting the hotel. The deluxe room looks nothing like the advertised room. The only saving grace was the nice soaker tub and shower which were really nice and the only reason I gave this hotel 2 stars. I believe their advertising is very deceptive. Use caution.

Hotel located Heart Manhattan, bilingual reception that helps a lot when you don't have a perfect English, punctual and daily room service, the day of checkout we kept our suitcases a whole day at no cost none. Did not give 5 stars for the continuous breakdown of the elevators in the days we were.

I don’t really know where to start from… 1. The rooms were tiny. They have managed to put a bed a table and a chair in a very small room and there is literally no walking space 2. In PRICELINE, they said they provide free BREAKFAST. But when we reached there, they said there is absolutely no food service in the hotel. 3. They don’t even have water or a coffee maker in ther rooms. 4. Bathrooms are tiny tiny. So tiny that only very slim people can walk in comfortably. 5. Oh about the Air conditioner. Absolutely non sense. It makes noise every 30 minutes and it is very loud that we woke up every time we heard that sound. We lost our sleep all three days. 6. Worst thing — the sheets and the blanket had so many stains. I’d give them a zero rating if I could but I’m gonna stop with this. Only plus point is their location. Nothing else.

Nice rooms, warm and clean, staff friendly and helpful, we had a problem with the bathroom and they came after 5 minutes to fix it. Very central location behind the Empire State Building and attached to the 5ave. Recommended.

The hotel is located in a good area in terms of security, at 15-20 minutes from the metro stations. It requires maintenance, in the room I stayed the wallpaper was despegandose from the bathroom walls, the carpets were in bad condition, the TV obsolete, etc. The bed was uncomfortable, leaning to one side. The noises in the hallways or rooms on the sides can ruin your sleep. The hotel was very expensive and the room was very comfortable.

Great location, vintage style (some furniture would need some maintenance) and cleanliness was smooth and accurate. From our window you could see the Empire. Very nice staff someone speaks a bit ' Italian who does not know speaks English ' understandable '.

Due to the location, you can not complain, this in the 38th and Av Madison more reference close to Grand Central Terminal. You can go walking to Times Square without any problem, and to go to the statue of liberty or Brooklyn Bridge, you can use the line 4 — 5 — 6 q you can take from Grand Central Terminal or the 33rd st. Like to go up to central park you can use the same line, but would have q to walk something. Room is normal, but livable for sleep and bathe in, my room had a Queen bed and no problem, would have q search for reviews for 3 or more people. The only negative q say q obviously you and ask you for your card to load $ 100, but up to the time I have returned, would have q see until q reaches the state of mind.

Hotel a little austere outside but well placed.
Attention no breakfast possible.
On the other hand the air conditioning was not working (very old) and the 2nd night ditto despite our claim.

It's an old building, so it's going to have a few quirks. The bathroom looked like it was recently remodeled, but the room was a little bare bones. No comforter on the bed, but clean sheets and a soft blanket. Appliances like the phone and hairdryer were a little dated, but functional. Working standard flat screen TV. The AC was a little loud, so I cranked it up for a couple hours and then turned it off before I went to bed. The door to my room shook a little in its frame, but the locks were secure. The windows didn't totally block the sound coming from Madison Ave, but I'm a light sleeper. The location is absolutely amazing. Walking distance to Bryant Park, the Empire State Building, 30 Rock, and Grand Central. Service was friendly. They let me check in an hour early and gave me a room with a view of the Empire State Building! If you want to be in the middle of Manhattan and just need a place to sleep, this is an awesome option.

Just got back from NY. We were fine on hotel, no problem. The structure is dated and we liked the style ' vintage ' New York. It was very clean and the staff were very helpful. Someone also speaks Italian.

Dilapidated rooms. Serious lack of maintenance. The air conditioning broke down 2 times on a 7 day stay. Nois has provided a mobile Airco each time but it is much less efficient and noisier. The shower head was broken, the bathroom tiles damaged. The room lacks fridge. No restaurant in the hotel. No vending machines. I even got cockroaches in the room! Frankly this hotel is not advisable! Its location is good.

This hotel has a great location 8 min walk to times square, 3 min walk to the empire state building, 20-25 min walk to central park. That literally is the only plus of this hotel. The customer service was horrible. House keeping came to my door EVERY morning at 8am, and when they see I was in my room. They would say they would come back. They refused to keep more than 1 set of fresh towels in the room. I had 2 people in the room. I literally had to call every day to ask for another set. They wouldn't even bring a face towel, they would bring a hand towel instead. House keeping left my room open one day, I came in at 3am to find that my door had been open since whenever they serviced the room. The shower/ tub did not have a curtain nor did it have a door. So we had to use towels to step on and collect the water when we showered. House keeping did a horrible job with cleaning the room, I suspect this is why they didn't want us in there when they cleaned the room. The hotel is very outdated. There's no microwave/ refrigerator in the room. The free Wi-Fi moves extremely slow. Location is the only great thing about this hotel.

Good points; very central for all attractions the staff were helpful and sorted out a problem with bedding, other points the hotel is very dated and could do with a makeover especially where it is, we upgraded to a delux room but were disappointed as been in better accommodation TV was old fashioned carpets were worn and needed cleaned we were on the 14th floor and was quiet enough the bathroom was big and towels were changed daily we never ate in the hotel so cannot comment, we went on a room only basis and that's what we got, the pictures on the site are not what you get now. As probably taken years ago, to recap. The jolly madison hotel is an old fashioned hotel in a popular part of New York so if the owners read this. Spend some money on it and get it tidied up and modernised and you will be packed out, you have a good position on madison ave but you let yourself down with the decor, the staff were helpful and we did not have any problems with luggage or security as others have mentioned on trip advisor.

The room was very small but very clean and the bathroom too. The hotel did not have the choice of breakfast but you could have breakfast in the cafes next door. The most important thing about this hotel is its great location. We arrived at Time Square in just 10 minutes walking and, on the other hand, was located in a quiet street, without noises, where you could sleep very well. My daughter and I went there in the month of August of the year 2017, the most expensive month of the year, and the price of the hotel seemed quite reasonable too. The only uncomfortable thing-the size of the room, but considering the location and the price I think you couldn't even ask for more.

The location is great and the property perfect, great hotel for a holiday in New York. The staff speak Italian.

Very friendly Hotel within walking distance of the Empire. I stayed for three nights at the end of July and found myself well. Spacious room, bright and with a view of the skyscrapers. The furniture is a little dated but the cleanliness of the room is satisfactory. Very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom, new and bright.
At the reception they speak Italian and are courteous. I would highly recommend it.
New York is amazing!

If your looking for upscale accommodations this is not your place. This is a hotel with rooms to sleep in and shower and change. It's in a fantastic spot! Easy to get anywhere in mid town, by a short walk. The staff is very friendly. The housekeeping was very good, they kept my room neat. The front desk I didn't use but they were very helpful to people and took their time explaining things. The rooms are not perfect and some are outdated and run down. My room was from the 80's but my bathroom was fairly modern and European (shower is only half enclosed). I have no complaints, I found the diner across the street very good as well and many others very nearby. You can walk to times square and Bryant park, the empire state building is right around the corner, as is Grand Central.

Great location for Metro and nearby attractions within walking distance. The room was a little dated but very clean. Very comfortable room, very noisy in spite of the tenth floor.

It is only advisable for the strategic location compared to Manhattan.
The staff is pretty much non existent and useless.
The rooms are small and urgently maintenance also on the electrical system.
Broken mattress.
In our nothing fridge to be able to at least store drinks and snacks. We were told that it had been removed for maintenance… but not even a bottle of water in the room offered for the discomfort.

Great location, but that's all too. The room has been cleaned only superficially, the Windows cannot be opened and are leaking, the radiators do not work, the wallpapers are dirty or broken in many places. The room and bathroom are large but uncomfortable and very noisy.

Very good location to visit new York just next to the central station, old but clean hotel, and bedding OK.

Over Priced. I'm paying about $400 for a Tuesday-Thursday stay. And you DON'T get what you pay for here. My room is REALLY small… I did ask for a small room but why doesn't the price reflect that? Interior is not that nice, shabby. (Pics on-line are deceptive). Limited Wi-Fi unless you pay for more. No option for room service and the rooms don't have any useful features like a microwave. (I had wanted hot water for tea) For the money I'm not happy. It is in a more noisy part of Manhattan. My first time I came to NYC I was only a few blocks over in another hotel, and it was much quieter there. I wouldn't mind a more shabby hotel experience if the price reflected that! (It is clean and staff are fine)

I spent a week in this hotel. The staff are very friendly the spacious rooms and it is very well located.

My partner and I stayed for 18 nights and it was wonderful. Best location. They let us check in early and they upgraded us no charge. The room was fantastic. The bathroom superb. We loved the shower and bath amenities. The staff couldnt be better. We will stay again.

The location is just perfect! After for the rest everything is to be revisited! The staff at the reception and especially the safety is not the friendliest. Security prevented me from joining my friend having made the check in before me if the latter came down not fetch me… the days that followed were coming and going out of the hotel as in a mill, ie that security is the day and evening there is more Person. The room is dilapidated, my friend saw hairs in the bathtub and the towels smelled like frying. We're not going back!

It's a shame to see such bad reviews. My fiance and I stayed from December 23rd-25th, 2016. Every time I called the staff was very kind and reassuring. When we got there I thought the lobby looked beautifully decorated and was greeted by a sweet woman at the desk who let us check in an hour and a half early. The elevators where a little small but nice and quick. We stayed at an end corner room on the ninth floor that gave us a decent view. We stayed in a king size room and no its not the Waldorf but the bed was comfortable and the room was big enough for us. Luckily everything was clean and in working order for us. I kept the do not disturb sign up at all times so I don't suspect hotel maintenance ever entered our room so I didn't have much interaction with them. But let's be honest people this hotel is no more then a 15 mins walk from most main attractions in NY! Location, location, location! And a king room cost me $277 for a 2 night stay and only a $25 returned deposit for each day we stayed, and this was a holiday weekend! On Sunday we wanted to stay in the city longer but not drag our bags around so they even let us leave them there for free. If your used to staying in some high end hotel you will be disappointed, sorry. But luckily for us our room was clean and comfortable for our 2 day stay. And I mean your in New York, we only were in the room to sleep and shower so we didn't need that many accommodations. I would definitely stay again!

Great experience here! Our room was upgraded because of a first time visit to NYC and birthday celebration. We enjoyed this hotel it was clean, quiet and the location was awsome. The red room where you get ice was a bit odd but… no complaints here!

If what you're a looking for is a bad service with angry people working there, this is your place. Seriously, the room was very noisy and after asking several times to change it we managed to do so, but it seems they didn't want to do that. We felt like if they were doing us a favour.

The only thing good that has is location.
The standard room very very bad, with a lot noise that make it impossible to sleep.
Very small room, so much that you can't almost or open the suitcase but is on top of the bed.
Tv can hardly be seen.
For nothing advisable.

Ok the maid had the key and rosanna coscia and susan di baggio authorized these robberies and I was a victim of theft. They and Joan wilson stole my red rubber shoes my katherine gibbs book and my yellow rain slicker from duane reade. Also other stolen property was a photo of myself singing at the international tea at the ten eycke womens residence. My parents had given me a jewelry box which was also stolen and that meant a lot to me. This happened on the fifth floor. This is not a safe building. A young couple wanted me to bring their baby to the fifth floor and take care of her but I insisted that this building and the fifth floor was not safe for their baby. I did the right thing. I let the parents keep their baby at home. Christina fox sis.

From the instant we checked in to the minute we checked out the staff were so incredibly rude. They attempted to down grade us from a room type that what we paid for, and when confronted they had nothing to say for themselves but begrudingly corrected their error. The rooms were okay, but small and shabby in appearance. The bathroom light flickered. There was water damage in the rooms. In addition, the hair dryer didn't work properly, and the shower handle came off. Location was nice, which is most likely this hotels best selling point. At no point during out stay in this hotel did we feel welcomed or anything less than a hassle and inconvenience. I would not recommend this hotel for a trip.

The room was too small with an awful view and two beds I could barely fit in. Even there was no soap in the toilet. I cant beleive it. I hated it.

It was good overall. I got the 14th Fl. Which was quiet and nice. I didnt like being next to the elevator cause of privacy and safety. But it was clean, smelled good and very modern. The was a reasonable size and they give you a discount if you book in advanced. They dont give breakfast. Which would have been great.

Great budget hotel from classics in the heart of Manhattan. Quite spacious room, clean, on high floors of the tower not noisy. One block to 5th Avenue. 10 minutes walk to metro stations 4-5-6 line.
