Great Location, disappointed with experience at hotel in December 2019. Rooms issues, towel issues, no where to sit in lobby, etc. Have always enjoyed this hotel due to its location but will now find another place to stay. Paulina and Joshua at the front desk were helpful.

Quiet rooms and a great staff who really take care of you. Great location only 0.5 mile from Times Square.

Its amazing place to stay — very close to restaurants, walking distance to Times Square cozy and very special treatment — they have a lady at the reception called Sandra she is amazing person and very helpful — sending my regards from Iraq.

I didn't pay much mind to it because I was running late. The next 3 days the staff and everyone were really nice and helpful. On the second day the conference was interrupted by a false fire alarm. Other than that my experience was good.

Great hotel in a great location, only 10min walk from Times Square and right buy a subway station. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Docked one star because they add a $25 a day resort fee on top of the room price which doesn't seem necessary.

Very nice full service Marriott just steps from Grand Central Station. Located in a beautifully renovated old building, the property is very nice, but can be a bit challenging to get around. Rooms are a decent size for NYC and very clean and up to date. Lobby has a full service restaurant/bar and coffee counter. Keep in mind that you will have an automatic 15% tip added at the bar in the evening. Gym is nice, but requires at least 2 elevators to get to. Staff is very helpful.

The hotel is outdated but the worst thing is the customer service. The rooms we got were old and dirty. We asked to be changed right after we arrived at 11pm and the front desk guy said they didn’t have any other room. That they were full. The guy was not helpful at all. Kind of rude. I spoke to another person and she was extremely Nice. Paulina was very helpful and found us two rooms in the 16th floor (the only remodeled ones) and they were okay. We had to pay for the nigh…tly rate difference, since they are the only good rooms in the hotel they charge more. In one of the rooms the bathroom was dirty. Toilet broken and hair in the shower. Bathroom door didn’t work, and was dirty. I talked to Paulina the next morning and she was a blessing. She helped us and tried her best to have everything fixed before we came back and make us feel better during our stay. Thanks Paulina! It was a pleasure to meet you. I hope the place gets better.

We were on a group tour so rooms reflected their reduced rate. Very adequate considering they were used for sleeping only. Hotel was clean and well kept with very attentive employees. New computer system so there were some glitches but all got worked out. Couple disappointing features: 1) for an upscale Marriott the bar didn't open until 5:00 PM and closed very promptly at 11:00.2) in the morning they have breakfast bar but no true breakfast, lunch or dinner. As a platinum member I consider these things to not only be an inconvenience for the patrons but also (the hotel's problem) a great loss of potential revenue. This is one of the few large Marriott hotels we have stayed at that didn't offer these amenities. They also had a station in the lobby hawking Marriott timeshares. We will choose diferently next time. We absolutely love what Marriott has to offer but they need to work on this one.

I forgot a new white cosmetic Dior bag there. After 2 weeks I called to the hotel but the receptionist just transferred me to some numbers around and nobody answered my calls. I tried to call them so many times, they did not really want to help me. I gave my information and she said will contact with me with unexpected voice. It has been more than a month now, but noobody contact me. Horrible! Never been there again. The bag cost is nothing but the honesty and service were disappointed. What's a shame for "a popular hotel in midtown". Avoid this hotel!

Me and my family are gold/platinum members of Marriott and what I can say that this hotel does not represent the treatment that we received in the past by the Marriott hotels! Today I came from a conference at city and want nothing but just come to hotel and relax and to my surprise I was treated poorly and rude by the front desk person called Denise with no explanation! This person should never be placed as a front desk because of her lack of professionalism and training! I was chocked felt intimidated and humiliated! My husband had a reservation with my name included and when I brought the number to this person without even saying a hello would not talk to my husband to get the confirmation and his rewards number just said extremely with a rude tone “NO” and walked away and the manager came and while my husband was talking on the phone with the manager and explaining the situation she was laughing the whole time and when I said to her how unprofessional she was by doing it and I would better not use Marriott any longer she just said “good bye” and made a signal with her hands! I was and still in shock and desbelieve how can someone be so unprepared to be on front desk to a 5 start hotel! Wow! Cameras are there in front of here to proof everything I am telling here! Shame on this hotel! Never coming here again!

Rooms are a little small but they're very clean and decor is simple. Each floor seems to have a slightly different theme, which is cool. To get to the 35th floor (exercise room) from our room on the 12th, I had to take three different elevators, which was confusing, but didn't affect me much, as I just wanted to see the top of the building. Personal highlight was that two of the housekeepers I ran into were deaf and it was really cool to interact with them and practice ASL. They were probably the nicest ladies in all of NYC.

The hotel has an excellent location, both for business or leisure purposes, but it could benefit from a revamping to renew rooms and halls. Strangely enough, it does not offer the usual complimentary water bottles for Elite Members. Staff is helpful and kind, as usual in all brand venues.

A usual big city Marriott with somewhat small and dated rooms — it's a 1920's building after all. However the concierge lounge is huge and nice and the location is quieter than the other Marriott properties. The staff is typical New York, which means the focus is on efficiency instead of niceties.

Very nice but noisy damage!

Good hotel. Conveniently located for tourists. Subway and grand central nearby. Great diner round the corner. Rooms are a little tired and as is usual for NYC the soundproofing from the street could be better. One complaint about the hotel is the lifts as they arent enough of them. There are 2 sets of lifts. One set covering up to floor 16 the other covering rooms from 16 upwards. If you are near the bottom of these 2 ranges you'll struggle to get a lift at busy times. Either make sure you're on the top 3 floors or 14-16. If they're full you're best getting a low flow and using the stairs!

Recently stayed for six nights at the New York Marriott East Side with a girlfriend. The room was equipped with two queen beds with lovely soft pillows. It was very clean, and they left us in private as requested. It was a very nice stay.

Excellent hotel. Ubicadisimo with very good service. Rooms of good size. We will return.

Neat hotel, conveniently located. Breakfast buffet was a good value. Free coffee in the morning and hot chocolate in the afternoon at the lobby was a nice touch. Our room had a small kitchenette which was useful. There's a small gym and a laundry room in the basement.

Check in went smoothly and quickly. Rooms were clean… a little dated but clean. Free breakfast was nice (elite members lounge). I would recommend this hotel.

Not even a pair of free slippers or bathrobe for a hotel of this category it does not. The vacuum cleaner never passes under the beds (it's pretty dirty not to say disgusting). The room was very good and the price was great.

Comfortable room, breakfast buffet type with little choice for my taste (eg for the hot dish: scrambled eggs, sausage, spinach eggs, potatoes) ; No service instead. The room is crowded from 9:00.

I’m a die hard Marriott customer! No matter where in the world you choose to go, you can never go wrong with a Marriott hotel! And I have been to a few around the world. This property is great! Yeah, I guess there is no room service, which is unusual for a full blown Marriott hotel… But, the concierge lounge has excellent breakfast and the fitness center is well equipped! One has to be an Elite Member to have access to the concierge lounge, but that’s just one of the perks of traveling.

Worst customer service. I stayed here with 2 of my friends, and right when we checked it was pure confusion. They tried explaining all these extra fees that we had to pay, yet they explain it to the point of where you’re too confused and tired of asking questions so you just say ‘okay. ’ When we got to the room our shower didn’t work so we tried calling the front desk, we called several times, but they all went straight to voicemail. We ended up going to the lobby to ask for someone to fix the shower, they said “of course what room number” and so forth. They were very nice about it, yet an hour went by and nobody came. Tried calling again this time the phone wasn’t working. Sadly, had to call from our cell angrily to actually get someone to come, only took 5 mins this time… to say the least this place isn’t as great as they portray it online.

We booked here for a stay in January via Expedia and got a great price. The location is great for Times Square since we were there to see a show. The rooms are decent and served our needs. It's an older hotel but we'll maintained.

I would give the facility 3 stars and the staff 5 stars. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff in all areas. The hotel is historic but it could use some updating, the rooms are definitely in need of a refresh although the beds were quite comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. Location is convenient to many things.

Nice Vintage Hotel. Ideally located loan from Moma ready to Rockefeller Center loan from Grand Central.

A little expensive and something serious, the facilities are not bad, but they are not from the other world either.

The hotel was included in a Jetblue promotion. Rate was great, but then you get what you pay for. No room service, no view from our 3rd floor room, the tub drained slow and as you showered, water collected around your ankles, bathroom door and toilet fighting for the same space (Very small bathroom). Some positive was staff was nice and helpful, location is good, hotel bar was good when open.

If you must visit the city, I would tell you that its location and the quality of the services are perfect to make your stay in Manhattan something unforgettable.

This is obviously a much older hotel that has been renovated. My room was very small and felt cramped with two double beds in it. The windows were single paned and at night when it was 10° outside, my room would not stay warm enough. I could feel the air coming in through the windows. Location is good if you are looking to stay in midtown.

Everything was fine! I loved my visit!

This a nice hotel at the center of Manhattan, lot's of interesting site's are close by. The down side is the entrance door that are not working correctly. The bar is not fast and it close too soon. This hotel is recommended to stay.

Perfect nothing to say except breakfast expensive for what is there.

Good location. Short walk to Grand Central Station and the Theater District. Rooms are a good size and clean. The only downside is the price. It's pretty pricey, but considering the location and it being NYC, I guess some will find it worth it.

I just stayed at this hotel this past weekend and I must say that it was one of the best Marriott experiences I've had. I had called the hotel prior to our trip and told them we were bringing my mom for her 80th Birthday I was told they would make a note of it. Upon arrival we were greeted by a wonderful lady Paulina she made my mom feel wonderful she said Happy Birthday hugged her and later sent her wine and cheese to her room. Very nice gesture and made my mom feel special. We left our bags with the Bell desk and did not have to worry about coming back to check in later. Staff was wonderful helpful with directions restaurant suggestions etc. A great spot to stay if you want easy access to everything. You can walk to Central Park, Times Square and minutes from Rockefeller Center. Also very close to many train stations! Very nice hotel. Central to the places I went. Staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. I would definitely visit this hotel again. a big shout out to paulina.

Overall my experience at this marriott was pretty good. The location is fantastic and only about 6 minutes from Grand Central. However, it is pretty noisy simply because it is in downtown. The rooms are pretty standard, nothing out of the ordinary. I would stay here again simply because of the location.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, and excellent service. Getting to the fitness center can be a bit confusing if you are staying in the lower half of the hotel and rooms without a view really have no view. However, the hotel is in a prime location for visiting the Big Apple. If the rates are reasonable I highly recommend it!

Location is great for walking to restaurants and shops. Rooms are a bit small but decent for NYC. All staff I encountered were very friendly. Plan to stay here next time I am in the city.

The service has been nothing but friendly and professional here. The lobby area is beautiful, but the rooms seem a little dated. Overall it has been a good stay though.

I was there for a work related class so I really can't comment on much. The greeting staff were very friendly & professionally. The hall we used for the class was very clean & well put together.

Marriott took over the property to the building which was built as the Shelton Towers. At its completion, the building was the tallest building in New York and was planned by the same architect as the one who designed the Empire State Building. Marriott has made good use of this landmark historic building of the Art Deco style. The second-floor M Club Lounge, open to all hotel guests, is a nice place to sit down, watch TV, eat a snack or work at laptop, as the Wi-Fi is provided free by the hotel.

This hotel was surprisingly really great. The location was right by a couple subways. Rooms were small but clean. Staff was friendly and the club lounge was really good. Perfect place to come back and rest after a long day.

My room was nice. Spacious and clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. Even though on the fifth floor I did not hear much noise from the streets below, nor from any guests in rooms bear mine. Would definitely comeback again.

The only things great about this hotel were the location, and the M club lounge. The staff overall were on the rude side. When I first got to the hotel, I decided to waive housekeeping since I was only there for 3 nights by myself. I didn't think I would need it so I called to the receptionist to have it stopped. The next day, I met some guests who were interested in coming to my place before we head out for the night so I changed my mind and decided to have housekeeping clean up a bit. Thus, I submitted a request on the app to have housekeeping. Reception then automatically closed the request without even clarifying my intentions with the request. Obviously if I submit a request after I declined housekeeping, that means I now want housekeeping back. So I called to reception and the rudest lady answered me and told me I don't get housekeeping because I waived it previously. Yes, I get that, but I requested housekeeping AFTER the fact which means I want someone to clean my room. Then in the rudest tone, she says "so you changed your mind the? Fine. " Utter disrespect. I will never come back to this hotel.

Nice room, great location. Housekeeping knocked once and then let themselves in at 8 in the morning while I was still asleep, I wasn't too crazy about that. Otherwise it was good.

The bar is quite expensive but the atmosphere is well good.

Com Booked a room on there and they had the cheapest rates around… Gorgeous hotel with classy decor and upscale service. Our room was very comfortable, clean and equipped with everything we needed. Staff provided us with extra toiletries and robes upon request. We have the Elite Club membership so we had access to the private elite lounge, which was great — it's stocked with snacks beverages and they also provide meals. Only imperfection was the view from our room, which was brick wall and an alley. Otherwise, superb experience.

Beautiful Marriott in a renovated building, walking distance to all the great midtown destinations. Clean, up to date with all the great Marriott amenities. Nice gym, great bar/restaurant and plenty of meeting space. Excellent staff ready to help!

An excellent deal, no hassle, for the price that we pay for the aviations were very good… But the best thing was its location!

Good hotel, very well located. The only thing is that it is a bit old. But rest is very good!

Went there to stay the night for a wedding we had in the area. There was a horrible septic smell throughout the lobby and the hallways to the rooms which was strong enough to cause us nausea. Other relatives that stayed in the hotel said the same thing when I asked them if their hallways were the same. Had an issue with accommodations we had set up prior to going, but those were taken care of when are a bit of clarification which they comped the issue. Bathrooms didn't have working fans. Rooms were well taken care of, accommodating and spacious. Beds were very compfy. Cleanly building.

Great clean hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Second visit in a month. I was not afraid to come back. Near a lot of things but far enough to not be in the crowds of Broadway.

Great hotel location, close to everything, many food options within walking distance. Quick checkin, got out room at 735 am after Redeye flight,. Rooms on smaller side, but typical of NY, stayed 9th floor, corner room, facing Lexington, some noise. Used lounge once for early breakfast, and late night for water and snack. Beds are comfortable, clean, shower pressure needs improvement. Would stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

Our 9 day stay at the New York Marriot East Side on Lexington was perfect. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly, the service was of high quality, our rooms of good size and the location was within walking distance to many of New York's must see places. We would definitely recommend the New York Marriot East Side to anyone visiting the area.

I'm not sure if all the NY hotels are like this, but the rooms here are TINY. Actually, the whole hotel seems cramped. From the lobby to the elevators. Perhaps when it was built the average size of a person was much smaller than today? Also, some of the rooms are in desperate need of a renovation. Especially for the prices that this hotel charges. Other than that, the location itself is great, within walking distance to the metro/other parts of NY. The receptionist and room service people are also nice and willing to help. But yeah, they shouldn't be charging that much for a hotel that needs to be badly renovated and for rooms this small.

Front desk able to accommodate late checkout request. Hotel rate was reasonable given location and it being NYC. Our only complaints were an inability of the shower to produce anything but lukewarm water and general brightness of our room (did not have blackout curtains or shades, just a semi-translucent floral patterned drape that ascended or descended on a chain). Would stay here again based on price and location.

Decent rooms and a nice bathroom bu the vallet service has absolutely horrid. We called at 9:15 and a hour later we still did not have out car. Very upsetting, I would not revist.

Would give 5 stars if had free Wi-Fi but oh well. Quick check-in and greeted on steps before entering the building. Clean and nice sized rooms with little to no noise (stayed on the 7th floor). Elevators are small and weird but it was my first time in NYC so it's probably standard. Floors L-16 are the A elevators on the left and the rest of the floors on B elevators on right. No big deal. Conveniently located with knowledgeable concierge service. Close to subways, shopping etc. Overall a good experience and will stay again.

Only of being in New york I feel happy because nothing seems to my pais. Twitter, desire to get January 2016 and with my family and friends a few days.

In the past we've stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Time Square but after staying at the Marriott East we will be staying there from now on. It's more laid back with a relaxed environment. You don't walk outside into a thousand people like Times Square. The hotel was very clean. The concierge was very helpful. We came in for the World Series and were happy to learn that you could take the subway from Grand Central Station directly to the stadium which was a plus! Grand Central Station is within walking distance from the hotel. Also several of our favorite restaurant's are nearby as well. Also, if you like bourbon there's a bar two doors down called Whiskey Blue that has a nice selection.

We needed to update credit card details. Not only did we update concierege daily 3 times — they started calling our room daily, leaving notes under our door and then came to our room. Clearly the staff have a communication problem. We were then pinned out of our room after a day in town with all our belongings still inside and nowhere to go. After resolving our credit card details they then accidentally locked us out again the next day and took an hour to fix it. We had a booking that night at the theatre and were late because of the hotels idiocy. Daily cleaning wasn't daily! We had to call concierge to remind them to clean our room half the time and when cleaned most facilities were not replaced. Our shower flooded from day 1 of our 14 day stay and was never fixed although promised. From the floooding and heat our fire alarm went off and no one came we had to wait. Daily Wi-Fi was $17USD (for 24 hours) I have stayed in several hotels in NYC and Marriott has always delivered but this hotel and it's staff all do — not only the bare minimum to make a your stay comfortable — but if you experience a hiccup there is absolutely no customer service or support. We were also refused to view our terms and conditions/rights as customers when locked out of our room. Absolutely disgusting.

Worst hotel by far: hopeless and rude staff who at one point would have rather seen us homeless for a few nights than to update their system to sort out a situation (literally pinned us out of our room more than once while we were out during the day and our belongings left in the room). Not to mention the filthy bathrooms and lack of daily cleaning services, unless we happened to run into the cleaning staff to remind them.

Loved this hotel, the price was on point! I'm someone that spends A LOT of time researching where I'm going to be staying and this place knocked it out of the park I was a bit weary at first because I got such a great deal (granted I pre booked) with that being said it was first time in NYC and my boyfriend was staying with me as well. I ordered up some wine, cookies etc to the room to arrive when we checked in (for a great price via hotel accommodations) not only was the staff SOOO helpful before hand they wrote a note for me to him since it was a surprise and delivered way more than what was promised in the $. My flight was 2 hours delayed and I didn't get in until after midnight and without me even asking my room was upgraded to a city view, I was blown away when I walked in! Couldn't have been happier with my choice to stay there and will definitely stay there again! Staff was great, good location, breakfast should've been included but who really eats at the hotel when you're in a place like NYC anyway.

We had a great experience at this hotel. Clean, nice-sized rooms for 4 people. Super location for us to walk to most things. Wade, our bellman, was extremely informative and helpful. Pete, our concierge, was just outstanding… polite, concerned, friendly and extremely helpful in assisting us in obtaining theater tickets. On the service provided by these two gentleman alone, we would stay at this hotel again.

Booked a large wedding party here May 2015. On the last day, I found a bedbug and brought it and showed it to the desk, then checked out. A Manager later notified me that they didn't find any more bedbugs so, nothing was done.

Although I did not stay here. So I can't comment on the rooms. However the breakfast buffet was terrible. The "hot" food was very cold. The 2 girls I was with only had the fruit after seeing my face after trying the "hot" food. I had one bite and stopped eating The chef came out and explained the hot food was rotated every 30 minutes and would remove the hot food from the bill. This was still a cost of $66 for little fruit and coffee. Avoid at all cost.

This hotel is totally over rated. We figured Marriott would have a certain standard. The rooms are dinky with no bathtubs. The shower overflowed and even though we reported it, the problem was not fixed. The lobby is a dump. The staff are nice enough but this thing needs a major remodel. If anything Marriott should lower its brand on this property. But frankly a Courtyard would likely be a better choice. Find another hotel and dont waster your money. We used to stay at the Intercontinental Barclays for teh same price and it was alot better, but its under reconstruction and the rates will likely go through the roof. So we will search for another favorite hotel and it wont be the Marriott East Side.

Nice hotel on the East side of the island. We stayed here for a friends wedding and it was very nice. The The rooms are of course VERY small but it is new york so what do you expect. Other reviewers have mentioned that the layout can be confusing, which I agree with, but it was not too bad. The location is great, just a few (New York) blocks North of Grand Central station. Also on a pretty day it would not be too bad a walk (about 18 mintues) to Times square.

Being a New Yorker, I dislike the East Side. So I already wasn't looking forward to having to stay at this hotel. However, it was surprisingly old, not renovated, its a maze, its confusing even for me, its claustrophobic, there were crumbs on my carpet bedroom floor, and black hair in my bath tub. I believe the crumbs and hair are inexcusable. It was another weird weekend in NY.

Very poor service. If you order something like a comb, they will deliver it to your room after 30 minutes when you are gone. You buy Elite membership which includes breakfast but they will give you a "1000 points" to eat instead. There will be no sugar in the room to make coffee. While, I am writing this review, I am waiting for sugar that I ordered 20 minutes ago and my coffee is already cold.

Our family has stayed at much more exspensive hotels than this hotel on previous trips. This is and older hotel but very clean and great employees. Thanks Marriot.

What an AMAZING hotel! My Girlfriends and I stayed at this hotel April 11th-14th 2014 and have no complaints whatsoever! As soon as we arrived to the hotel after a very stressful drive into Manhattan, Mike (Valet) was VERY helpful and kind to us! He made sure that we felt welcomed and took wonderful care of us. I really hope that Mike is a very valued employee at the Marriott Eastside, and taken care of there because he was our first impression of the hotel and it was a great one! Check-in was fast, efficient and our room was even ready for us FIVE hours early! Front desk staff was also kind and helpful. Our room (King bed) was actually large in respect to what you should expect for NYC square footage. Very clean! Well stocked with bathroom essentials, towels and toiletries. It had a great view and a very comfortable bed and sofa. Maid service was also wonderful and very appreciated! The location of the hotel is perfect for a trip to the city! Close to all attractions, subways and tons of shopping. All of the above stated made our trip to NYC very enjoyable and we will ABSOLUTLY stay at the Marriott Eastside again and again! Keep up the great work, and please ensure that Mike in Valet is aware of how much we appreciated his kindness, helpful direction and calming gestures-The Marriott is very lucky to have an employee such as him! My manfriend and I stayed in this hotel while visiting the city for his birthday. Denise, the desk clerk and the security guard were extremely accommodating. The entire staff made our stay great. The rooms were nice and clean. We would love to stay there again. OMG, the bed was so comfortable, that I hated to get up! One of the best hotels, I've ever stayed in.

Very good service and people are very attentive. However, the 824 room was not very clean. The carpet was dirty and the lower part of the furniture was very dusty. I don't know if it was the cause of my allergy because when he entered the room he began to cough and sneeze. Another aspect that caught my attention is that in the lobby there are only two chairs, so guests had to wait standing, and there are only Wi-Fi in the lobby because if I wanted to use it in the room should be paid $16 daily for access. This seemed very expensive.

Good location and transport links. Central to all the sights. Rooms are clean. Price in February was hard to beat.
