I went to check in myself & 92 year old mother. We were to have a handicap accessible room. Was told it was not available, they had all been given away, even tho it had been reserved a year ahead of time. When Mom went to the desk & asked for a toilet riser, because if she couldn’t use the toilet, we wouldn’t be able to stay. Needless to stay, a room was found! Room was spacious & clean. However, the room lightening was terrible.
No rack or rod for bath towels. Towels were rolled up & placed on sink counter. This of course limited the usable space at the sink. Also made them very inconvenient to reach when getting out of shower. Lighting at sink terrible for applying makeup. No shelf for placing shampoo, soap, or body wash, no wall cover where shower pipe comes out of wall.
Staff was courteous. My sister & brothers-in-law hosted a small graduation party the night we arrived. The pizza was delicious. The brownies were to die for!

Rooms a very clean. Bar and restaurant are very good and people/staff are friendly. If I was in town again, I'd stay here. Next to some good bars and fun arcade.

Once a loyal Hilton customer. No longer true. I booked a fancy jacuzzi suite here for my anniversary. Paid a lot of extra money for having everything nice for the occasion. When I checked in, no comments. Once we got to the room we noticed it was a plain old room. Freshly painted and renovated. Apparently they renovated and removed all jacuzzi rooms and didn’t bother to tell me. But still charged the crazy high price. My wife got a migraine from the paint fumes and threw up that night. I complained and got a new room for 1/2 the price. No smell so it was better. But if I had intended to stay in this town and stay in a normal room I would have stayed in a much cheaper hotel. We were forced to stay since my wife was so sick by this point. Lost a Hilton member. Thanks for the happy anniversary memories!

The whole reason we chose this hotel was so that the 3 kids and us could swim. They did not tell us before checking in that the pool was unuseable. Total waste of money.

After a long drive I arrived and upon check in the front desk told me my room wasn’t ready and I’d have to wait 45 minutes. Wait until 6pm to check in? She blamed it on a sold out Saturday the night before. Sorry, but your staffing isn’t my issue. Barely any cars in the parking lot on a Sunday after 5pm. Made a lot of excuses so I finally just left. Unprofessional. Hotel is under construction. Will not return.

Our family had a great stay. Staff is very friendly and the rooms have an innovative design with charging stations with USB ports on desk and nightstand. It has adequate wireless Internet, TV, fridge, hairdryer, etc. It was easy to get in and out. The room was very clean. They have a good breakfast, but it is not included in the room price. We have kids attending Iowa State and we live out of state. We plan to stay here in the future.

Accomodations were good. Complimentary Wi-Fi is fast enough for work use. The newly renovated 3rd floor rooms looks good, but the doors at my particular room weren't installed properly and were hard to open and close, a bit of an oversight. Beds were very comfortable. I expected more variety of the breakfast since it's not included, but it was delicious. Overall, I'd come back because of the courteous and very helpful staff who went out of their way for me more than once.

This was one of the worst hotel stays I've had. Was staying here for a wedding. Rooms were booked and paid for. We got there and they couldn't find our reservation. They finally did find our room and issued us keys only for us to get to the room and find they had already given it to another couple for the wedding. Went back down to the desk again and after not finding another room gave us a different room (that apparently also belonged to yet a different couple yet to check in for the wedding). We went to the desk a third time and they figured out that they had given the first couple our room so we ended up getting their room. They also demanded my credit card before they gave us the room even though the room had already been paid for. When we finally got to our room we were the only ones in a wing of the hotel that was under heavy construction. The work crews were really loud at all hours of the day. Construction started at 6am with people swearing and continued through the day well into the evening. The smells of construction and new paint totally permeated our room. I was not able to get much rest after my 9 hour drive to and before my 9 hour drive home 2 days later. Not enough information was given about amenities and meals. No one mentioned the pool/hot tub or that breakfast is NOT continental. We were surprised to get a bill for our food (Which is SUPER overpriced).

What a wonderful place to stay! The staff are amazing! Professional while making you feel at home. The front desk staff (Tina and a young gentleman) were very accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We will be staying here again. Thank you! Rooms are spotless, roomy and quiet.

We had over 50 people staying in various rooms for our daughter's wedding. We loved everything about this hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious. The employees were kind, courteous, helpful and personable. Liz and Nick at the front desk, Chris on the phone, the great people at breakfast the next morning, were all well trained and nice! Thank you Hilton Garden Inn for being part of our great weekend!

The service was great. When I arrived it was just about midnight, and rather than ask for my ID and credit card she just asked for my home zip code. She said I know that you've been traveling and you're tired I'm trying to get you into your room as quickly as I can period was great service and I appreciate it.

Very friendly staff will make you feel at home The bar closes at 10 but while it's open it's the place to be.

Hotel is orderly and clean, staff is friendly and welcoming and are all very helpful and willing to recommend places to eat. They tend to move around a lot but at least they aren't standing around!

Hotel was really nice for the price. Pool was small but seemed well maintained and wasn't overly chlorinated. Room was clean and seemed new.

They are very accommodating. Always treat us very well when we stay there. Some of the best staff around.

We had a great day there was some confusion on the breakfast we thought it was a complimentary Buffet and Nick at the front desk really stepped up and took care of us and gave us coupons so my kids can have breakfast and I am forever thankful for that so kudos to you Nick thanks again will be staying there on future visits when we come to visit my daughter up there at school.

Very nice staff. The room was clean. However one of the lamps didn’t work and the door wouldn’t shut all the way unless you pulled it shut forcefully.

The rooms are great. I have stayed here a couple times for 2 or 3 days at a time. I had room service last time I stayed and the food was cold. This time the baked mac n cheese was curdled. I really wish they had better food here. It would make it easier if we could eat here without having to leave to get a decent meal. I hope management reads and acts on this. There is a reason people eat elsewhere.

Well located and managed location, and great staff. Needs an update, which begins soon. We will be back!

As always a great lodging experience. Rooms vary clean, appliances are new, the hotel has a small bar and they provide breakfast in the morning so it is very convenient.

As always a nice place to stay. Would be better if they toned down the chlorine in the pool, but also understand it needs a certain balance. Wish they would include continental breakfast at no extra charge.

I came from Nigeria for a two weeks training at Iowa State University. I spent ten days in the Hilton Garden Inn. I love the place. The hotel staff are very warm, the food is nice and the rooms are cosy and clean. Guess what they also have lots of complimentary service for guest.

Pros: Common areas well kept Room very clean Cookies, tea, water and coffee on table as you walk in Front desk completed check-in in about 1 minute because I booked with my Honors credit card Pool and hot tub area well maintained Gym small but very clean Cons: Thermostat was broken in our room so adjusting temperature had to be done on unit by window Bed has adjustable firmness/softness but the adjustments are for the whole bed, not just one side so my wife and I had to find a compromise. Coffee and hot water for tea we're out multiple times during the stay which was annoying but didn't affect us much Overall a nice place to stay.

Bed was very uncomfortable. Would have been nice if the front desk informed guests that the beds are Select Comfort and adjustable. Didn't find out until after an uncomfortable sleep and a sore back.

Great hotel and small conference center for families, groups and corporate events. One of the only hotels with a genuine concierge. Close to restaurants and public transportation, just off of US Route 30, Ames, Iowa.

No where near as good as any Hampton Inn I have been in. Breakfast costs 11$ (Hampton is free), the beds are better at Hampton and it feels 'nicer'. Both owned by Hilton (which is why I stayed there) and so I was expecting the same kind of stay. Disappointed in everything but the service.

The staff was great. One of the assistant managers was pretty rude, and could use some training. I wasn't even there to stay as my friends were, but I'm glad we got in at the Gateway instead of this place. She was that pompous and annoying. Kitchen staff was excellent. Saving grace of the whole thing. Hotel and front desk managers take note!

The staff were polite. I enjoy a hotel that allows me to adjust the room temp as I like the room very cold; although, the AC turned off in the middle of the night and went back up to 72 instead of 65 that is set it at. Also, the TV had parental control on and I could not change it so I could not watch some channels.

Nice lobby. Staff is pretty friendly. Price is okay but not great. Pool water was freezing!

I had my sons birthday sleepover here and the staff was AMAZING and very accommodating from beginning to end. I ordered a burger at 10 pm not knowing the grill closes at 9:30 did they complain? No not at all… I got it and I was in juicy burger heaven… Then breakfast was a beautiful experience… The waiter Macc was very patient with the 5 kids and their crazy orders… He kept a smile on their faces the whole time. Wonderful staff wonderful element wonderful time… I will be back.

We were in Ames for a wedding. Lots of family and friends stayed here also.
Stay was a bit disappointing. The room was okay but not up to Hilton standards. The Sunday morning breakfast was most disappointing also. It was all you can eat. Much of the choices were made to order. However when it was brought to the table it was cold. Wish we had gone elsewhere. Overall our experience was not good. Felt that it was overpriced. I realize that they were very busy but should have more help on duty. Probably would not stay here again. Have stayed at many hotels for a lot less money and were nicer.

I came here on a trip to my competition and it was one of the best hotels I've been to. The staff is so kind and caring and the room is very spacious and has nice features, especially the wide variety of TV shows. The pool and hottub are maintained very clean. It was a very good stay.

Room was nice and clean. It was cool that there was a keurig in the room. The pool and hot tub were nice as well. Overall a great night stay.

The place was very clean and nice looking, the staff was extremely friendly, the place was really easy to find, the room was exactly as pictured and described. I highly recommend this place.

Service and amenities were good but the walls were incredibly thin.

It was slightly underwhelming but I can't really complain.

We had the honeymoon suite and our Jacuzzi tub worked well and they gave us a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries, which were delicious. The breakfast was expensive and not very good though. I ordered an omelette and the vegetables were undercooked and the egg was hard. The bacon they served was burned to a crisp. Also, they were out of creamer. The cut fruit was not fresh and was mushy. The staff was nice and helpful.

Nowhere near as nice as I was expecting given the cost. The bed was very uncomfortable. The towel rack was INSIDE the shower. I banged my head in it when I was bending down to pick up the soap. The heating/cooling system was sooo weird. If it got too cold, the heat would kick on. Then, when it got too warm the A/C would kick on. It's winter here and I don't need A/C at all. There was no way to control it from the thermostat. The pool was very small. The finishings were all cheep and drab. Especially the doors. The lounge chair in the room was very stiff and upright, so it was impossible to relax. Got up in the morning and thought I'd grab some breakfast, only to find out it cost $11. I've stayed in much nicer, less expensive hotels, that serve complimentary breakfast. All in all, I won't be staying here again.

This is a nice little gem in Ames. Only a few miles from campus. It is comfortable for anyone but if you have a group their lobby and facilities make it easy to congregate and be comfortable.

It was between this hotel and one that I knew well to be a good place to stay for half the cost. I thought, why not go first class. Well, it was more like third class. We stayed in room 104 on 10/01/2013. Hot tub didn't work. The pillows were really lumpy and uncomfortable. The water pressure was very poor in the shower. It was poorly insulated for sound: Sounds from outside resembled someone dragging a big sheet of metal across the drive, I heard a soft cough from the adjacent room, and anyone talking in the hall came through loud and clear. Upon complaining about these things when turning in the keys (The emailed invoice came from a J. Carberry, so I assume it was her I spoke to) I was told to wait for the manager to call me. I had asked for a reduction in the $130 price tag for the room since I could have had a much better room with no hot tub in a lower priced but higher value hotel nearby. The manager never called.

Hotel is beautiful. Breakfast was a little pricy. Staff seemed very nice.

This hotel was recommended by the Hospice facility where my father is staying. They mentioned that they thought they offered a discount for people with family at the hospice. They offered the same price that I could have got online, so no real savings. Anyway, at first glance the room looked nice, but once I walked into the bathroom my impression quickly changed. Hair in the tub, toilet and floor had not been cleaned very well. I contacted the front desk and while I was out the cleaning staff addressed the issues and left me a chocolate vacuum for my troubles. Wow! Will I stay there next time? Probably not. Hopefully for $100 in Ames I can find a nicer hotel.

Hilton Garden Hotels are usually good, but this one is even over average for a Hilton Garden. Rooms are clean and large. Area safe and quiet. I have to work in the room, and that is why I use this hotel: Good working table and professional working chair, and the Internet is fast and reliable. The personal is friendly and helpful. Concerning the bed my predecessor complained about: Hilton Garden has beds with adjustable stiffness mattress — if you don't know where to adjust it, it may be too hard or too soft. If you do, you always have it the way you want it. I got a perfect sleep here last night and I will have tonight as well.
