The first room we we're given smelled like smoke. Our subsequent room had a light fixture out in the bathroom and the sink clogged. The light was unable to be fixed and we were offered a second room. The sink got clogged late in the evening, so we worked around it. The manager was apologetic when we checked out.

Nice stay After small issue with the first room we got a fair upgrade. Everything is clean. Affordable. Kids loved the pool.

Expensive but that's Santa Barbara for you… That being said it was clean and quiet and included free breakfast. Overall we had a great stay.

Very nice hotel. Saved us last minute when we had to switch hotels because our other one was disgusting. A younger girl at the front desk (she’s fairly new, has only been there for a month or so) was amazing. I wish I remembered her name. Super helpful and very personable. Good experience for price point!

Great location not far from downtown. Facilities were wonderful and the price couldn't be beat. Breakfast was good too.

First of all this is more like a cheap motel! Bathroom window would not close and was worried about theft. Very incompetent front desk staff. Stayed here for 1 night for a concert at the SB bowl. We left early in the am and knew that I left my drivers license in the desk! Called and asked for them to check. Was told housekeeping was fine for the day and to call back the next day! Called back and was told it was NOT found! Over 2 weeks later they called and said they found it. I asked for them to please mail it back to me. I was told that I need to provide a postage paid envelope for them to do so! I asked please just put it in an envelope and place a stamp on it! They stated they do not have stamps! Asked to speak with a manager or to have a manager call me back. 3 days later still waiting for this to be resolved! Just complete incompetence!

April 28, 2018 Girls trip celebrating Kim's birthday. We took the Amtrak train to Santa Barbara and stayed one night at the Sandpiper Lodge. Overall we rated the room a 6 1/2 it was clean and it look just like the photos on the website. The people were very nice at the front desk. We all said that we would stay here again.

The hotel was accommodating with an early check in and were able to prepare a room for us quickly. The beds were comfortable and there was a flat screen TV in each room. Conveniently located in downtown Santa Barbara.

A pleasurable stay, a pack and play provided at no extra charge. Plenty of TV channels to watch and, if you're so inclined, lots of fast food "joints" on the same street. Only Slight issue was with the moldy food items left out for breakfast.

Decorated with a Mexican theme, the restaurant serves a plentiful Tex-Mex menu. Every day of the week has a special dish or drink on sale. The place has a fun atmosphere and staff. The restaurant is often busy, and people seem to enjoy throwing birthday parties there. At 10pm you may get DJs.

Absolutely a great experience and very clean. Breakfast was average but for $100 (+$50 deposit) was well worth it.

Really great hotel for a travel type lodge. Nice service and clean and the largest suite I've had. The suite has two full bedrooms.

Our stay, for our 38th wedding anniversary, was very nice. The room was immaculately clean, it was extremely quiet and the breakfast buffet was delicious. Sandpiper Lodge was easy to find, with everything we needed to find close by, such as restaurants and drugstores. I would recommend anyone to stay there. Thank you to the staff of the Sandpiper Lodge for an enjoyable stay.

2nd stay at this location in the past 3 years. Located on upper state street, it's not within walking distance of the downtown core but is surrounded by many restaurants and lots of shopping, including La Cumbre plaza where you'll find a large Macy's, Sears and many upscale shops. Quiet and comfortable, it offers a very good complimentary breakfast (great pastries, muffins, oatmeal and cereal, toast and bagels, mimi omelettes, fresh fruit, variety of juices and very good coffee). Would definitely recommend. Outdoor pool available, non smoking hotel.

Price was good for Santa Barbara, but terrible night service when checking in. The desk clerk was rude. I prepaid since it was for out of town family for an medical emergency with my family. He insisted I come from the hospital to pay again. Very rude and had an attitude before I got on the phone with him. This was on October 30. Family went somewhere else and I asked to cancel the reservations, but I was still charged. Contacted the management and still waiting for them to call me back. Never ever will I recommend this hotel even if I was not charged, rude staff and not responsive to my requests.

Nice hotel. Good choice of facilities. Pool nice, disabled facilities available. Breakfast very Basic, continental only.

CONS: the north side room I stayed in was located next to a utility company supply yard = loud industrial noise starting around 5:30am, Air conditioner smelled very moldy, power went out at 7am and wasn't back when I checked out at 9:30, no hot water, several of the male janitorial employees loitered around staring while my girlfriend used the pool facility making her feel extremely uncomfortable. PROS : A Decent sized, clean room, good amenities for a great price. Free breakfast (albeit basic even by continental standards)

Good location and reasonable room. Breakfast is very basic — instant oatmeal, cornflakes, apples, pastries, milk, yoghurt. But nearby hotels at this price range don't provide breakfast at all. There is a fancy breakfast place which we liked (Jeanine's) next door.

I like it here because it's always clean. This place has a fridge and a microwave in the room. The jacuzzi is great here and the pool is warm for the cold weather. It has all that you need without having to pay much. Breakfast is free and the staff is friendly. This is the place to be.

Less expensive than the Motel 6 next door, but so, so much better. Complementary breakfast, with scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and much more in a clean, dedicated dining room. Well-equipped gym, next to a good sized, clean pool and Jacuzzi. Comfortable rooms. Probably the best "bargain" in Santa Barbara's over-priced hotel market.

Very quiet, nice room. Comfortable bed. Coffee was not great, but we just went to Coffee Bean anyway!

My team and I have come here the past 4 years for a high school volleyball tournament at UCSB. The managers our great and extremely friendly. The jacuzzi closed at 10 but we didn't get back from the tourney til 10:20 and they let us stay in it til 11 and the manager brought us all extra towels for my whole team. Great inexpensive place to stay.

It was totally awesome I don't understand why it got such a low rating but I thought it was super nice and modern very cleanly as well as feeling very safe and secure the front desk clerk was very friendly personable and helpful very very pleasant stay.

Pros: Nice and spacious room. Breakfast was great too. Cons: Only one parking space per room. Bathroom seems to need renovation.

The room was clean and nicely furnished, and the bed was comfortable — clean crisp sheets, lots of pillows. The shower is a walk-in with only a curtain, so if one is not careful one can get the floor a bit wet, but the water pressure is good. I could occasionally hear our neighbors through the walls, but it was reasonably quiet. The Sandpiper is located along the rather busy main drag of State Street, surrounded by other motels, but we didn't hear a lot of external noise (of course, we haven't been here on the weekend, so it could be quite a different scene). There are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and even a 7-11 within walking distance — and, best of all, a bus stop right at the corner of Ontare and State, from which it's an easy 15-minute ride downtown on the Accommodations in SB are kind of expensive, so this place is a real bargain and a pleasant surprise. The breakfast is rather basic, but free is always great, and the Wi-Fi works. My only quibble is the paucity of electrical outlets in an age of multiple chargers… installing outlet multipliers or surge protectors in the rooms might improve convenience, though not strictly necessary.

Great value for a family type of room. Lots of room, huge bed, and very clean. Down side, there is no shower curtain. Called to ask about it and was told just to close the door. Staff over all very friendly. Walking distances to stores and cafés. Still puzzled on why there is no shower curtain.

Away from the center offers a swimming pool with adjoining jacuzzi, room with TV, coffee and air conditioner clean and quiet.
