Took a quick getaway from L. A. And had a lovely time. The hotel was clean and quiet, and the staff friendly and helpful (especially Stephanie). We’ve found our new SF home 🖤

Ambiance was everything I hoped it would be. Staff was exceptionally friendly and the “unorthodox amenities” made it a one of a kind experience.

Charming old fashioned hotel in downtown SF. Location was perfect for someone trying to see the city for the first time. Literally a minute from Union Square makes it a good choice for being centrally located and getting around on foot. Rooms were clean and from my small interactions with the staff I would say they are capable and attentive. Price is appropriate for the accommodation and location. Would stay again. First time SF travellers — beware the fees and local taxes added to your room base rate, for me they totalled over $125!

Quite surprised of the quality of the room given the price. Very dirty, dusty and rundown. In desperate need of a redesign and the air-con only worked sporadically. The service was excellent though. Really prompt service when our hair dryer set on fire and very pleasant staff on the desk during the week. The bed was really comfortable as well.

Great location, good service. The room is nice and clean. The bed is not terribly comfortable. There is a surprise convenience fee that I knew about from reading reviews, as well.

Great hotel also as a location and welcome. Nice rooms and a bit retro. Nice evening date with a very sober and relaxing Happy hour. Definitely ok!

The hotel is very adorable, it feels like you’re in a different era. Location is fantastic, there was A/C in our room, housekeeping was very friendly so as the rest of the staffing. The only issue we had with this hotel was the amount of extra fees that we end up paying at the checkout. Our reservation went from 530, to 751! I wish they were more clear about all of those extra fees we end up having to pay at the end. Besides that, our stay was lovely.

Nice vibes. Also my last hour before check out my water didnt work and I couldn't take a shower… be mindful of the amenities charges 30-35 per night.

The hotel is certainly older, but it does have some charm. Amenities were good, and the free Wi-Fi worked very well in my room. I gave five stars mainly because of the value, and the excellent location for the price. If you want to save money, and don’t mind trying something different from the typical Marriott or Hilton, this is worth a look.

The hotel says it's designed to look and feel old and it definitely does. Was last renovated in 1997. Room was adequate but had a funk so I got an air freshener that made it much better. Location is great however, very close to Union Square.

Neat. Convenient location. Homely, well behaved staff. For a business tour I would miss some modern facilities like room service etc. But if this meant to be this way. Then one can enjoy and relax absolutely.

They have a mandatory fee of $21 per night (you can't escape that) — main reason why I don't stay with them anymore. There are better options around for additional $21. I have stayed here multiple times and in general it's a good hotel, location was ideal for what I wanted to do in San Fran.

Charming! A very comfortable hotel, not only was the staff pleasent but it seemed like everyone staying here was friendly and happy. Giving it a four because the hotel is a little old/shabby, which I think adds to the charm. No weird smells or anything, just older windows, elevator, etc. Loved hanging out in the Library for breakfast and the wine hour, ithe Library is an inviting, comfortable, not overcrowded and again, charming place.

Nice bar. Art Deco, jazz in the background. You can sit down on a upholstered chair and have a nice chat.

Great service and conveniently located. Walking distance to china town and union Square. Lots around. Rooms a little dated but had everything you need really. Rooms were made everyday and they even provide water apart of your stay daily.

I had a really enjoyable stay here. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was pretty cozy though temperature control was a little challenging. The location was perfect and easy to walk to just about anything I wanted to do and see. The bar/restaurant downstairs was super cute. I didn't eat there but did stop in for a drink and again, the team working was great. I'd definitely stay here again in the future.

Located conveniently near Union Square and there are several bars in the area if you need to grab a drink. Nothing special about the rooms, they serve their purpose. It's quiet and good for staying for a night or two.

It's a clean hotel and also pretty quiet. Staff are helpful. Lack of gym came as a surprise to me.

The hotel itself was very nice and clean, especially for its age. Room was MUCH smaller than expected for the price, but I'm guessing that's normal for the area (and don't forget you're going to pay at least $35 a day for parking on top of your reservation). Biggest complaint was that our room faced the street — and it is a VERY busy, loud street, all… night… long. Combine that with old, flimsy windows, and you become really glad that the bar has superb coffee. We needed a lot of it to get through the next day because the noise kept us up most of the night.

Located in downtown San Francisco with in easy walking distance of many things. Staff was friendly, the rooms were cozy and up to date. Only issue was parking. You have to use the valet service so be prepared to pay, its not cheap.

Hotel Rex is a comfortable and clean hotel with a ton of historical charm. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would happily stay again.

Good location. Hotel has charm. Our room has walking space around the bed. Pictures on website are decently large… Clean enough. Front desk service has been so-so. A/C is a little rumbly, but I like white noise. Bathrooms could use an update to be more up to date and true to character of the rest of the hotel. Parking is almost $50 a night.

Great hotel, 6th floor was quiet, staff is friendly, affordable, and not a major chain. My room was clean, king size bed, with a couch. Definitely will stay here again.

How can I describe Hotel Rex? It's like staying at your best friends house whom you know loves you and then you realize her husband love you too… The staff immediately became like family. We laughed and joked from the moment I checked in until they arranged for my transportation to the airport. The hotel. So sweet! So comfortable! Like coming home. I never felt so at home so far away from home. Jeff, Chris… The entire team was so accommodating! I could not have picked a better place to celebrate my birthday alone in a foreign city. I'm truly in love and can't wait until I have a chance to return.

This place is soooo darling and dripping with that San Francisco charm we're all looking for. The rooms are small, but surprisingly functional for their size. I didn't feel cramped at all. The location is perfect. Most of all, the staff was super nice and helpful. I'll be back.

The room is bigger than I expected. The furniture is robust. The refrigerator hidden in the desk is a huge plus. The showerhead leaked and sprayed in all directions. The pillows are all too soft, but I am overall happy with the room. The free coffee in the lobby was also a huge plus.

My room at Hotel Rex was comfortable and clean which is to be expected from a hotel. What makes it extraordinary is the excellent staff who are friendly and helpful. Whenever I go to a new city I like to go to the places locals enjoy, and the staff at Hotel Rex were more than happy to point in the direction of some great restaurants and bars nearby.

Loved this place! I travel all over the world and have stayed many places in SF. The Rex is terrific. Thoughtful design and details right down to the interior of the elevator and the hand-painted lamp shades coordinated with art and walls. Best to see it. Quiet, clean and very helpful and friendly/real staff. Staying in large corporate hotels means missing out on the local flavor. The Rex is about SF and the arts. Loved it. The bar is perfect for relaxing, dreaming and conversing. NO ball games on the TVeee. Close to everything.
