Great hotel that holds over the boarding house. It really feels at home.

Great lodging option near Union Square. Comfortable, intimate, clean, warm, retailer, fresh breakfast, the Pip cat gives you a touch of mystery and elegance.

Central location with lovely, helpful staff. Charming rooms, clean bathrooms, and a sweet little cat named Pip.

I visited in 2014. The Golden Gate was a great value. We booked at a rate much less than other hotels in the area. The location was perfect — near Chinatown, cable car lines, BART and other transit stops. My toddler loved riding the old elevator, eating the fresh cookies, and playing with the cat (who followed us to our room). Would definitely stay here again.

So, I'm crazy for cats. And every morning of my stay at the Golden Gate Hotel, Pip (who happens to be a big tabby cat) stopped by my room for about 15 minutes of purring, petting, and general kitty cat happiness. That alone would have made this a five star experience for me.

Very great atmosphere, breakfast croissants were yummy! Resident cat is also very cute! Definitely stay again!

A quaint hotel close to Union Square, Chinatown, and the Cable Car. The rooms are small but not out of the ordinary for San Francisco. They serve breakfast which includes coffee, tea, juice, pastries, and toast. It's fairly quiet at night because it's on one of the less busy streets.

A wonderfully charming hotel administrated by Pip the cat. The owner will of course tell you that he is in charge but see Pip's face all over the soaps and see how he carries himself throughout the premises and you will realize that Pip runs the show. The breakfast is quite good with juice, croissants and other tasty items. The only wrinkle was the parking across the street which worked perfectly well as a one-time drop off but might be a little cumbersome for in-and-out activities. Better to walk the streets and use the city transit anyways. Recommended.

I am in love with this place. Seriously, I never want to stay anywhere else. The rooms are cute and clean, ours had a claw foot tub. The stay includes hot croissants, muffins, tea, coffee and oj in the morning and tea and homemade cookies in the afternoon. The staff are sweet, the antique elevator is rad, the location is awesome. Pip the cat is aloof and lovable. And they allow dogs, if that is a thing that is important to you.

A friendly family run business, very helpful when it comes to planning your day, warm feel, very comfortable bed (best nights sleep I've had in a long time), clean, quiet. All the things you could ask for. Plus it's central and close to everything. Breakfast included fresh pastries, coffee and OJ which was plenty to get you started. Probably the best value for money and enjoyable stay I have had in a B&B or hotel. No negative points whatsoever. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended!
