Everything here is awesome! The view is great and the outdoor is fantastic!

Very charming and beautifully decorated hotel. The rooms are on the small side, but are so cute and are stocked with Aesop bath and body products. Very nice restaurant and rooftop bar located on premises. Very courteous and attentive service and hospitality.

My husband and I spent a wonderful night here. We took in a San Francisco comedy club show and enjoyed a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant. Dinner was so good, we ate breakfast there, too!

Arrived at the Proper Hotel last weekend for our bday brunch. 2 of us were celebrating. The attention to detail from management to their servers and porters. I have allergies to direct sunlight and they made accommodations to move us all inside. A party of 10. They made it happen. Service was amazing, attentive and kind, knowledgeable of menu and specialty cocktail list goes a long way for us. Being seniors advisors and managers for restaurant groups ourselves we know and breathe hospitality, they do to.
Kudos to a lovely brunch and some of the best service in San Fransisco.

Hotel is way overpriced with small rooms. It is in a pretty bad part of town. Literally saw people using IV drugs on the other side of the street. Will never go back.

Great boutique hotel with an amazing rooftop bar and great amenities and wonderful staff.

Loved staying here. Villon is an amazing restaurant, we had a cozy dinner in the lounge. Highly recommend staying here, and go eat at Villon!

I had a great stay at The Proper. The staff were friendly and always asking if I needed anything. My room was spacious and comfortable, and the mini-bar was well stocked. Can't wait to come back!

Eclectic and elegant hotel in gentrifying part of town. Concierge is excellent, detail oriented and friendly. Ask for Nate, he is fantastic! Rooms are funky, comfortable and highend. Highly recommend breakfast on the roof!

The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the service was superb. Our room was very quiet and the bar looked amazing, but due to pandemic — it was closed but pre-made cocktails were delicious. We will go back!

My car was damaged by the valet and I got screwed. No reimbursement. Horrible experience.

First off, great hotel! However, in light of the coronavirus I needed to cancel an April reservation. The hotel stuck to their strict policies and refused a refund. I’m disappointed that with nearly a months notice, gauging a regular guest is more important than safety and customer care.

We were overcharged by food service, who charged room service for coffee and juice we had in the bar. Doesn’t coffee and juice always cost over $30.

Great hotel, great staff and service but the rooftop bar Charmaine’s, not so much!

Best sleeping night experience, very comfortable mattress and pillows.

They do not have their proper hours posted so end up running people out well before their hours of operation are over. If I show up more than 30 minutes before you close then I expect that the doors are going to be open and that people aren't already being pushed out in a bad mood.
Just advertise your hours correctly and people won't be so disappointed.

From the moment I stepped into the stylish lobby, I knew I found my kind of hang out spot. The Villon restaurant was fantastic from start to finish. Craft cocktails, Friendly staff, and an outstanding short rib sandwich on buttered toasted levian bread.
On top of everything else, our server brought out a birthday pan a cotta. So tasty!

Cool hotel.
Nicely laid out communal areas. Cool furniture throughout. The Charmaine’s bar and 1st floor restaurant and bar were awesome. Attentive staff throughout. Plan to stay there again in the near future.

The decor is beautiful, but terribly impractical. I'm a platinum member with starwood and this place is impossible to work from either in room, due to the terrible tables or from the lobby that is loud and has very average bar service. Bathrooms assumed no-one would bathe, inconveniently placed *everything*. Lighting was dark and dingy, heat only went up to 68 despite having engineering come to check. Our late checkout was not honored and we were asked to leave early — admittedly we used the in-room app to apply it. Apparently the in-room app through the touch screen doesn't work so be aware of that. Location is obviously dicey in the Tenderloin but it was worse than I had remembered from my last visit to the region. The hotel can't help this but just be aware of where you are. I gave a separate but similarly disappointing review of the restaurant.

One of the best boutique hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Awesome decor, black industrial steel, amazing tiles and gold fittings. Aesop everything. Great room service (overnight oats and coffee are amazing). Valet service is great (do account for some delay on retrieving your car though — 20/30mins). Would recommend to anyone staying in the city.

We stayed at SF Proper Hotel, for my Mom’s Birthday last month. My mom and I really want to come back soon. They know how to take care of guests in many ways. Check-in was smooth and there were no complications. Aaron was nice and friendly. During our stay the hotel sent a sweet surprise to our room with a cute birthday card signed from all of their staff, So cute! Our bed was comfortable and the decor of the room was relaxing. Exactly what we both needed it. The trendy style of this property is unique and beautiful. The quality of the food is fantastic and healthy. We enjoyed a delicious Sunday Brunch at Villon. I understand the mixed reviews, because of the homeless problem but this problem is all over the bay area. I will definitely recommend this hotel for future travelers, my friends, family but especially for young couples. Thank you for a great time in SF.

This place is amazing. The interiors of the hotel communal spaces and rooms are gorgeous. The rooms are not large at all, but are not cramped either. The beds are quite comfortable. We had drinks both at the downstairs restaurant and the rooftop bar and both were amazing. The rooftop has one of the best views you can get of the city from above, and they serve up a variety of fantastic cocktails including the best variation on a Pimm's cup I've ever tried. Proper is expensive, but it is worth the price.

Decor in this place is lovely. Big comfy, fluffy beds, rooftop has a really beautiful view and fantastic cocktails (I got the Mr. Jinks) and everyone at the hotel was super nuce and helpful. Would absolutely stay here again. (Disclaimer: interesting area, lots of interesting/homeless people wandering around. Didn't bother us though). Awesome cheap donuts next door at California Bakery.

We loved it. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. Eduardo from the front desk was most notably friendly and helpful. He was able to print something for us without hesitation. The decorating is quite awesome and I’m not typically impressed with this type of stuff; however, I did notice that attention to detail was definitely noted. They have a great gym. The restaurant was delicious. You get access to the rooftop bar through special elevator that we didn’t take advantage of, but I heard from other guests was really nice. Great overall experience and we’ve stayed at many hotels similarly or higher priced.

Had an incredible stay! The decor, the staff, the room, the rooftop and of course… the drinks! It was a blast from start to finish. A Proper vaycay indeed in SF. We were able to get around easily… The area surrounding the hotel is simply put — awful. Major downside. Sketchy is an understatement. But we walked briskly to where we needed to be and were fine. The tenderloin is still the tenderloin… and it isn’t changing for many years to come. The staff does their absolute best to keep you happy and it shows.

Absolutely gorgeous design from top to bottom. Great food at the restaurant and extream friendly staff. The roof terrace is an absolute must!

A nice "design" hotel. Very dark interiors make it feel like your stay in the hotel has been for the purpose of an undercover romantic affair, or an important meeting of international espionage. The sketchy neighborhood in which the venue is located reinforces this feeling. The staff make you feel like you are, if not the only, then the most important guest they have. A personal, hand written letter from management, accompanying a bottle of complimentary wine, underscore the seriousness of their concern to creating an impressionable customer experience. Enjoy the classy European-style restaurant, or walk across the street and pour yourself a cup of coffee and pick up a fresh donut at the local coffee shop.
