Well located but beware, very small rooms (as well as the bathroom) not necessarily soundproofed either.
No breakfast at the hotel but a great dinner just downstairs (Mason Diner) that one recommends. Avoid the one offered by the hotel as the service is poor.

We had a bad customer service experience when trying to follow-up on two items that my mother left in the closet of our room. We called promptly after checking out, but were passed from Staff person to Staff person after the course of approximately 4 days. Eventually, we were told that the items "were never turned in to the housekeeping manager" and the General Manager was unwilling to take any responsibility for the situation by providing any sort of bill credit or otherwise. I expected more prompt customer service at the least, and hoped that the King George would make good by agreeing to a very modest bill credit (given the price of the room etc. ). Also, the hot water in our room was poor, the complimentary coffee was very bad, and the King George does not provide any sort of complimentary breakfast. Overall, I was disappointed and would not recommend the King George.

I booked my room months ago and I got here tonight and the response was “sorry we don’t have it”. Absolutely furious and irritated with this hotel. They finally gave me a twin room (for the same price I already paid in May for a king). Now I understand the bad reviews this hotel has.

The service was excellent — the reception staff did everything to make us happy and the bar staff, especially Karena, who was a great hostess. Cool bar with pool, darts and shuffle board, which was a hoot. Good location in downtown, and cheap parking just over the road, with a 24 hour diner next door.

My wife and I were staying in San Francisco as our three year old grandson (Edgar) was undergoing his third open heart surgery at UCSF and we had travelled to SF to care for Edgar's younger brother so that his parents could focus on Edgar's recovery by staying at the hospital. We stayed at the King George for 15 days..The entire staff was unfailingly kind, helpful and accomodating. We were so thankful of their kindness and consideration during a very trying time for us. The facilities were very comfortable, but the exceptional part of our experience was the kindness and helpful nature shown by staff. People make the difference in any travel experience. We can't recommend any hotel higher than the King George.

Nice place. Excellent staff. Good location but San Francisco is a hairy place to visit. You'll need to have your guard up at all times. It's dirty, there's a big drug problem and the streets are lined with homeless people. There was a violent kerfuffle outside the hotel on our first night. The next night we walked only two blocks and it's suddenly drug alley. So stay at this hotel but instead of asking where to go, it's best to first ask where not to go.

Great hotel with extremely friendly staff. The rooms aren't massive but are quite nice. In the lobby there is a common area with a bar (decent prices), a pool table, shuffle board, dart boards, as well as board games available for use. It is in a central location, very close to Union Square and all the high end shops, also very close to China Town. Fisherman's Wharf is also walkable, but you may find it easier to Lift or Uber as it is is a 20-25 minute walk. Only draw back is that there is no breakfast served. If you want breakfast tho there is a diner directly across the street as well as 4-5 other places open for breakfast either on the same block or one block over.

We stayed at the King George Hotel for three days during our holiday in San Francisco.
The location of the hotel is great and allows you to easily reach the major attractions.
If you have the hop on hop off bus ticket, the hotel is just a few meters from one of the main stops on this route.
The staff is absolutely perfect! During our stay they were all very friendly and helped us answering our questions. Plus they were always smiling and helpful.
The hotel offers a small bar area on the zero floor, where you can enjoy cocktails while watching TV or while playing a game of pool or darts.
The rooms are slightly small, but absolutely welcoming and endowed with every comfort.

Took an impromptu vacation up to San Francisco for the 4th of July. Found this hotel by chance and couldn't have been happier! Hans checked us in and what a handsome smile and friendly face! I needed another room and he worked his magic. The rooms were quaint and just beautiful! The lobby was warm and inviting. We had a great time playing darts, pool, shuffleboard, they even had board games for families! Jason gave us great customer service and made sure to greet us by name and always made sure our needs were met! I will definitely be back and have already recommended it to other friends.

Awesome hotel and very trendy with amazing customer service. Very clean, intimate and did I mention the decor was beautiful. The front desk was so helpful and printed a document for me at midnight and even delivered it to my hotel room. I will definitely stay here again. Had a night cap at the bar and enjoyed great music. Right in the heart of union square, plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Toiletries were great and I never use the bar soap or shampoo... however I opened the soap and was pleasantly surprised and happy I did. Checked in late and was tired from the drive and the staff was friendly and attentive as soon as I walked in the door. Definitely recommending to all!

I found the place had a charming and comfortable feel. Nicely themed without going overboard and while old, it is well maintained. The staff I met were friendly and seemed oddly "at home". My room (queen bed) was pretty small and definitely nothing fancy. But it was comfortable, clean and definitely serviceable. Overall, I have put this one on my short list of places to stay when in the area.

Room was ok but small, bed comfortable. Although the staff was nice, we had to wait for our room to be ready until after 4 p. M. Second day, no coffee in our room, had to contact front desk twice, an hour later they bring two coffees… really! Just enough for each of us to have one cup in the morning. Elevator is extremely small and takes a long time. I would not suggest this hotel if you would like any kind of customer pampering.

Awesome location, we walked around union square and roamed around on foot freely. Loved the lobby, game, and bar area. Clean rooms, perfect for our quick trip. We had dinner delivered and only wish we would've brought our dinner downstairs to enjoy the lovely dining table. Didn't give 5 star stay only because we love a spacious room with a view and that's although it's not something we expected, we still missed it.

Friendly welcome, lovely rooms very warm but have fans seemed to be unusually hot for this time of year, rooms & public areas clean, great location just 2 minute walk to union square & 5 min walk to cable car & tour buses. Tea & Coffee making facilities in room and complimentary tea & coffee 7am-10am in lounge area. Yes it was noisy at all hours but what do you expect for a centrally located hotel, no issues with hot water had plenty, great hotel to spend partners birthday week, I think may of had a refurbish in public areas too. Thank you for a great stay.

I had a very unpleasant stay here. The room was much smaller than the pictures on the website, facilities are old and dated. No fridge, no bath tube, the closet was built in at the little spot like meter box. We were told that there is a risk of no hot water in the morning. We did have hot water but the stream was weak so it was hard to shower. My room was at the corner and there was construction carried out on the road over night. With the noise of heavy machines, there was no way to fall asleep. The Wi-Fi was slow and could hardly get connected. Moreover, the heater was such an old type and didn't work! I asked for help for the first night, the worker fixed it, but it stopped during midnight. There was only 1 lift and it was slow. 1 lift means you have to ride on it together with house keepers who carry a big cargo. I feel like I had made a totally wrong choice.

King George is a nice little hotel. The rooms are older but you can see signs of updating in progress. My room was very small, but inexpensive; didn't spend much time in there anyway. Amenities are standard: room service, toiletries, other basics. The free ticket for a drink at their local bar was a nice touch. Near lots of food places and a decent walk down to Market street. If I were vacationing rather than on business, I would consider this place more in one of the larger suites. Overall, a nice, inexpensive place that's great for a few days in SF on business.

Location is good, close to Union Square, a short walk down to Market St. It's an older hotel with smaller rooms, but it's obviously been recently updated. The bed was comfortable, and the in room tablets are a nice touch. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The happy hour drinks are a bonus. I am in town for business and it is perfect for that. The rooms are small, so I might not choose this location for a vacation with the kids. There are a good number of homeless people in this part of the city, but I didn't feel unsafe. It's par for the course and not surprising if you've lived in a big city before.

Stayed for a total of 3 nights and had a good experience. The hotel was basically what I expected after reading reviews. The room was cozy but comfortable with a nice-sized bathroom. Everything was clean and the microwave and refrigerator were nice to have. The only negatives were the lack of AC, which probably isn't an issue most of the year. And there can be a fair amount of street noise with the windows opened since there is no AC.

Our stay at the hotel was very nice, the staff was friendly and helpful. It was undergoing renovations but the construction did not interfere with our stay at all that I noticed. The room was clean and seemed updated. It was a little small but served its purpose just fine and with a great price for downtown SF. There are two really good diners nearby, one is next door and one is across the street. It is also easy to navigate the city from the hotel by public transportation and walking.

This hotel gave us a room, we got settled and went out. We came back to find that someone else had been given the room. We switched rooms. The next day the hotel charged my card an additional fee which was described as the security deposit. The next day my card was charged twice each amount higher than before. The front desk (Marcel) assured me these had been reversed. I asked him to print this as proof. He said he was unable to print this. A manager had to do it. Of course the managers were not coming in on the weekend but assured me this could be done on Monday. We'll see about that. Today I spoke with the GM of the hotel. She is very unhappy about the social media posts. This seems to be her top priority vs making the customer happy. She was able to reverse one of the transactions. She was unable to find the authorization numbers for the others. She did provide her personal cell phone number. Progress is being made but this is a lot of effort on the customer's side. A total of 9 business days have passed and the final transaction from this place has been removed from my card. Everything is back to normal. Again a lot of effort on the customer's part.

Although the room was quite small, it was adequate for my husband and myself. It was a lovely room. Very clean. No air conditioning, but it wasn't needed. There was an adjustable ceiling fan that that suited us perfectly. Bed and linens were super comfy! The only complaint was the bathroom window is an old fashioned slat window that doesn't block out all the street noise. Our room windows were along the side alley. There were some (homeless and otherwise) that were pretty loud until about 1 am. We ended up closing the bathroom door, which muffled some of the noise. Otherwise, I would stay here again and would recommend it to others. Also, it's pet friendly!

Awesome Union Square location. Come and go parking right across the street, easy walking access to incredible food. Built in 1914, rooms are small but comfortable and very quiet. This isn't an Embassy Suite, so public space is small too, in keeping with the era of construction, but non-the-less fun due to a very friendly and helpful staff. If blending big city tourism with historic flare is your thing, this place does the trick. Kudos to Marcel, helpful, funny and unflappable customer care. Definitely recommended.

Very clean rooms. Nice comfortable beds. Small, but nice bathroom, with great water pressure and shower head. Lots of USB ports for phones. A cool custom Android tablet was in our room that we could use to browse the web, read news sites, or contact guest services. We used the tablet to request late check-out for 1pm! We received two free drink tickets that could be used for beer and wine between 5-6pm! It wasn't a real hotel bar, just a room that had been converted into a sitting and drinking place. Free drinks are always appreciated. The room's windows could have been sealed better or double pane. The outdated/worn-out windows definitely allowed noise through, but it wasn't bad. I've certainly experienced much worse. We both still slept well regardless. We didn't mind the noise at all while we were awake. The hotel is close to Union Square, so there is definitely a lot of noise in the area. Would definitely stay here again.

You may wish to utilize a phone w/ speaker-phone capability so you can set phone down and do something else while on hold (but hopefully, your experience will best mine…) Anyway, good luck to all. My 25-year-old sister called it vintage, but it doesn't have the charm we typically associate with vintage, it's just old. The solitary elevator needs to be upgraded because it's tiny and takes forever to get to any floor. We opted for the stairs most times, but they are terrifying in their own way. The bedrooms and bathrooms were small and decent enough, but there is no central heating/cooling unit (We stayed there in December). The old radiator terrified us and was something we never touched — I guess that's why they provided multiple blankets. The front desk staff were very friendly, and the location is perfect. It sits across from a parking-garage if you choose to not pay for their valet parking service. When we were leaving, we saw some new guests waiting outside their room, vexed with folded arms, while someone vacuumed their floors with a vacuum I haven't seen since the early 2000's. Next time I visit San Francisco I will choose another hotel. If you like comfort, style, and hate getting duped by promotional photos, this place isn't for you.

Don't bother with this place. The only upside is that it's quaint. It has no amenities, it's understaffed by people who don't seem to know what they're doing, the Wi-Fi is slow, their advertised partnership with a fitness center means you get to go to the hotel down the street and pay $25 for a workout, and their same day laundry service that's guaranteed by 7pm doesn't show up until between 8 and 9:30PM, and the rooms are tiny and stuffy. In short, they suck. Further, when I booked this through Southwest, it showed be an $888 rate for four nights, and I was charged $1023, and they made no effort to fix that, either. And by the way, this review is based on a 4-night stay for a conference.
