Good backpackers with great facilities for overnight or longer weekly stays. Kitchen facility a bit chaotic when busy, keep food in the fridge well marked / hidden — we had food stolen. Two flights of stairs upto the top rooms, so keep that in mind if you have heavy luggage like we did in excess of 30 kgs — or bad knees etc. Parking available out the back in an empty lot if needed — you will need to get a numbered pass to park or you'll be towed. Would stay again, if in the area.

We had a great stay in Urbanz. Our little private room was without window, but it was all we needed for our time in Christchurch. Expect a lot of people in the kitchen around 8 pm so it gets quite dirty, but it's rapidly cleaned up before the next morning. Would stay again!

We had a private room with ensuite. Nice accommodation for inexpensive price! In the heart of city center.

New accommodation in downtown Christchurch. When we visited the construction in the city made driving a pain. The hostel had convenient parking. The rooms are comfortable but the pillows are a but flat. Everything was clean and the kitchen.

Great party hostel but not so good if you want a quiet place to stay. Clean and good price.

The single rooms are awesome. The facilities are great. Hugh common areas to hang out and movies on a Sunday.

Good facilities, perfect and free Wi-Fi connection, good spot. Kitchen was always dirty and my bedroom in particular had no windows (I was aware of that and accepted because of the lower price). Still, would recommend to a friend.

The staff in hostel are friendly and willing to help. The hostel is central and within walking distance to all places of interest in the Christchurch. However when compared to other hotels and hostels in New Zealand, Australia and around the world the Urbanaz is not good value for money. We have paid $95 for a room with a double bed. The size of the room fits a small double bed against the wall and allow one meter of space at the foot of the bed and one meter of space at one side of the bed. This room is provided with a shared bathroom and toilets. By comparison for the same amount of money we have just left a hotel at Timari. It was listed as a three star hotel. Our bed was king size, the room was at least four times as large, and we had a fridge, an ensuite, and other amenities including toiletries. We are able to make similar comparisons with many other hostels and hotels we have stay in. To top it all on my first visit to the toilets I accidentally sat on a wet toilet seat and looked the floor with paint lifting. Luckily we are here for only one night.

I found this place is ideal for backpacker. Clean, tidy, safe, spacious and money worthy what else do you need to stay. I love this place and also it is right in a city center. So anywhere do we want to go it's been easy.

Very central, clean, large kitchen, good breakfast at a small price, friendly and helpful staff.

As with many accommodation places in Christchurch the desperate need for accommodation to house the immigrant workforce means any old service is acceptable because we can always rely on them to fill the place. On arrival we were met at reception by a guy chewing a gobstopper which he chewed throughout the whole registration but we did get the gist of what he was saying. This set the tone for what happened next, the tourist I brought to Christchurch was given the 4th bed in a 4 bed dorm which had 3 permanent residents working in the city and as it was a permanent resident room it was not serviced. The room was filthy with food, rubbish and their personal effects scattered all over the floor and the table. Tourists should not be accommodated in the unserviced rooms of permanent residents. When I complained about this it had little response.

Very nice place to stay. Every morning, I can hear the garbage truck taking trash near my window. It's quite a nuisance in the morning. The staffs are very friendly. This place is child friendly. I particularly like the movie watching in the lounge, the kitchen and convenient to do my laundry & get good food nearby.

Nice clean place, nice environment.

I loved staying here. Great large and modern common kitchen, and common room, small bar facility available. Has a laundry room which I didn't use. Showers avail 24/7 and were good. No hair dryers or available plugs in bathrooms though. Swipe-in, secure, clean rooms. Very cosy, upgraded double comes with towels & bed linen, a lockable wardrobe, heater, TV (Freeview only) and I had external windows which was great. The double bed wouldn't have fit two people, or any tall people, but was great for one average-height person. I would've appreciated an extra blanket in the room as it was cold. The light under the door all night was problematic but a rolled up towel fixed that. I wouldn't pay for a locker padlock in the upgraded double as noone else goes in your room & it's swipe access.

One of the best places for backpackers, youths, tourists and anyone searching for temporary accomodation in Central Christchurch! They were a super saver when I was lost in this new city. Really comfy and neat beds with room heater. Also, don't miss to budge into the huge first floor kitchen to see the glass view of the reconstructed city.

Really nice well equipped hostel. Would happily stay again. The beds were really comfy and all had their own power outlets. My Only complaint would be the weird Wi-Fi restrictions. They give you tickets for 1gb of data, but mine ran out super fast and they we're happy to give me a second. This is the only hostel Ive ever visited with this, and Ive visited some pretty remote hostels that I'm sure pay alot more for their connections.

They need a better, and more easily accessible car park but the staff were very friendly and there was a large kitchen area that was fully stocked with the things you needed to cook a decent meal. The room was small and the walls were very thin, though the bed was comfortable.

Stayed in the single room, nice n tidy & warm. Toilets n shower nice n clean. Wouldve given a 5 but the night manager wasnt very friendly & 2 nights in a row I arrived to go up to my room & there was alcohol mess left by other tenants all over the reception/bar/pool table area. If reception is unmaned at night — there should be at least a long term tenant/s that can do a sweep of the place to clear this stuff away? Or get the tenants to have the decency to pick up after themselves — as its a real eye sore!

Very nice backpackers, great beds! Lots of room, close to all of the must-sees in town. Rooms by kitchen VERY noisy so take earplugs!

Great hostel, in fact one of the best I have stayed in. Good clean facilities, late check in, a large common area, decent Wi-Fi and good friendly staff. The only let down is the cooking and fridge facilities in the kitchen aren't upto the rest of the place's standard.

Good, modern hostel. Clean and with lockers. Kitchen tends to get a little crowded sometimes.

Very clean accomodation, central, nice and modern facilities. Just a little bit too expensive in my opinion (37$ one night in a 4 bedroom)

It stopped at 2:00. I was paying for a room with a common toilet/shower.
The location is excellent, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is good and the rooms are very spacious and well served. I asked the administrator to put my groceries in their fridge, which thanked him so much, he helped you very much! And also, I had to leave very early, and I had a table for breakfast 30 minutes early!
About the room: double bed, socket, closet, television, dress hooks, battery, stool, towel. There were some problems with the battery-it warmeded and it was for a while, and it became very cold, so I was given a second warm blanket and I slept by with my head. There was a dead silence in the hostel, and only a neighbor's TV was heard.
The restroom/soul. I haven't seen anyone in a day or two this evening. There are women's and men's rooms (each with two showers and a toilet), and there are common (3 souls and 3 toilets). There's soap and shampoo in the showers.
About the location. The hostel is 5 minutes away from the main attractions, the center of all the destroyed places and 15 minutes from the bus station.
