Unhelpful service from The reservation team and the duty manager. Our reservation was move to another sister hotel of their's either Ibis or Novotel. Been calling them everyday, and they keep saying we will call you back at the end of the day. Everyday is the same answer. Its unnecessary stress. Highly don't recommend it.

I had a great stay at BreakFree on Cashel. I stayed there for 2 nights and paid $86 a night which included breakfast.
If you’re that kind of traveller that doesn’t mind a cozy room, then $86 a night is a bargain! and did I mention it includes breakfast? I decided to have the big breakfast too. Friendly and professional service. I totally recommend BreakFree on Cashel for leisure or business trips.

Loved my stay at this hotel very cosy, comfortable and tidy room. In the central city close to tourist attractions, as well as good eateries and cinemas. They also have a bar/restaurant at the hotel which I really liked.

Absolute horrific experience, you’ wouldn’t catch me dead here again. Room had no windows and smelt off. Staff have been trying to take more money off me by rudely saying I have tampered with a smoke alarm, witch a horrible accusation to make! Boomers.

For the price, this was really good. Very clean & tidy room, easy check-in, didn’t take me long at all, through the self-check in system, staff seemed friendly & helpful. Perfect for somewhere to sleep after a long day at work, which I did use it for, and right in town, so close to everything. I would definitely stay again.

We only come here for the all you can eat breakfast which was good. The service was brilliant and very friendly. The waiting on staff kept topping up the food once it eatten.

Came on a work trip and it was the most affordable place to stay in the city so I was a bit worried that it may not be super nice but I was super happy. Crisp, clean, spacious room with a private little bathroom. Lots of light in the room. Helpful staff and the location is brilliant and will only improve as the rebuild continues and more amenities open in the area. Also the package I had included parking and breakfast so it was a nice easy visit indeed!

We booked the urban double and it was great fun. Its like a pod room just with the double bed and compact shower area. Good price and the bed was so so comfortable! Definitely will be staying there again.

The smaller room we were originally booked into was far too small. However, upon offering admin more cash to upgrade the room size, our room size was upgraded to King size free of charge. The staff have been amazing for our stay and the restaurant food is excellent.
Great staff however recommend booking a king room if you value space.

Fantastic place to stay highly highly recommend, their rooms are always very clean and neat. The beds are set higher than normal beds but that is because under the bed there is a huge space for suitcases and bags so you don't have to step around them and makes it easier. The shower and toilet are very small but are very good, and they have cool lighting options with different colors which very nice as it means you can just have those on instead of just normal nights mood lighting at its finest. Staff are very good nice and always there to help. We use this hotel alot and will continue to keep going it's great. Highly recommend this hotel and it's pretty cheap too so that makes it easier you.

Reception service is really fast and helpful. Fast check in. The room had a good size, king size bed, everything was super clean and smelling good. The shower area is not so big but fits 2 people at the same time for those who like to share the shower time with a beloved one (like me). They have tea/coffee stuff in the room so you can suit yourself. They charge a 5 dollar fee if order something from the room service. We ordered Indian butter chicken and it was delicious but a little expensive. The hostel is really good and I would be there again if I return to Christchurch.

Pod people, pod people was all that went through my head. The beds are comfy, the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are quiet and clean. They are perfect for a night and have 24/7 desk so are available to check in any time. They aren't hiding what they are and are very clear there will be no windows in your room.

Best location. Slightly slow check in but worth it for how cheap the rooms are but have everything you need and more. Even the interior rooms with no view are very small, but the way the rooms are designed are great with nothing missing out (fridge, kettle, hairdryer, ironing board, phone). Laundry facilities are great. And the restaurant downstairs is slightly pricey but fantastic service and food is unreal-so it's worth it! Staff are also very friendly and want to help out where they can.

So little room to accommodate a very modern solution bathroom and bedroom on an estimated 4 sqm. Mattress topp and also the rest of the "room" supermodern.

Food was good, nothing amazing but some nice flavours and well executed. Felt it was a bit over priced for the quality. A bit odd to have the restaurant situated as the main walk way to the accommodation reception although great for people watching. Lovely staff, service bright and cheerful but unorganized — mains arrived before dishes had been cleared.

The rooms are small, but for the price you get everything you need. It's really modern and clean as well as being right in the city centre. Have stayed here 3 times now and will stay again if the price is the same. Friendly staff. If you want a hotel with large rooms and big windows this is not for you (at least not the cheaper rooms).

I haven’t checked my bill as of the moment I am making the review. So my review involves the services of this accommodation. it was my first time to be in this place. The room was great and clean. The toilet/shower was very modern and unique. my only issue is the Wi-Fi. It has only 500 mb for 24 hours. I am a foreign traveler and my foreign service provider has an issue so I can’t use my phone (internet as well as phone). they have a storage area, you may leave your things for a few hours while waiting for your flight.
the staff were accommodating. Helped me get to the room even without the swipe card. suggestion: I hope the Wi-Fi will be unlimited for all the occupants. kudos for making my experience wonderful in Christchurch.

It was a nice compact hotel located in good location. Close to cathedral place and other shopping joints. Our alarm system was faulty, but it was fixed the next day after speaking to the staff. Overall it was a pretty good stay.

Very cool hotel with a lot of character. The rooms we were in had some innovative features such as a sunlight replicating alarm clock system and a frosted glass self contained bathroom pod with a sliding door to save space. The hotel is located very close to a tour tram stop and a super market.

Nice receptionists. Clean enough room. Interesting looking bathroom. Bathroom sink was bit too small. Toilet seat was bit too thin. Toilet flushing too much water. Bed good firmness. I would stay again.

Good location, close to many shops and restaurants. Found parking just off the street, since it's free after hours until 9 am the next morning. The room was okay, looked spacious because it had so many mirrors, however it could do slightly bigger. Shower had good water pressure and you could also choose the colour of the lights depending on your mood. My partner who is 6" 1' had his legs hung out of the bed, bigger bed would be nicer.

Comfortable budget accommodation, centrally located in the CBD. Staff were friendly and pleasant, bar/cafe downstairs is also pretty good. The rooms are alright, though very small. The bathrooms in the rooms we stayed in were very odd. A space saving design which is only just functional. For budget accommodation though it's not bad.

Beds not suitable for persons over 180 cm. We booked a double room at Breakfree on Cashel. Upon arrival I discovered that the bed in the room was much shorter than me. It was tucked in between walls on both the head and foot side making it impossible to stretch out. On the head side they had shortened the bed 5 cm extra with a wall attached back pillow. So the short bed was 188 cm to begin with — 5 cm more and the guest gets a maximum of 183 cm to sleep on. The beds are also v…ery narrow for two people. As an european I expect the bed standard to be 200 cm long and I cannot understand why you build a new hotel with these room dimensions so it can't fit a decent bed in times when people get taller and taller. The staff in the reception agreed that the beds were not suitable for taller customers and gave me a rehearsed answer that it wasn't there answer to inform about upon booking when I asked why this information is nowhere to find on any booking page or the hotels own webpage. Althought I was far away from the first angry customer about this. In the end I had to pay an hefty extra fee to get a room where the bed wasn't tucked in between the walls. Just to get a nights sleep!

The location is good and the hotel is very good and the location is great. The only odd detail is that they did not have hot milk at breakfast and when ordering it they said they would have to pay for it.

Nice trendy place. Entrance is though the bar and cafe so there is a sense of vibrancy rather than a sterile hotel. Rooms a small but have a cool restroom/shower pod thing.

Great buffet breakfast. Room was clean & tidy & had everything we needed including a small fridge, tea & coffee. Shower was lovely. Staff were good too. I would of given 5 stars if it wasn't for the loud humming noise going all night which sounded like a generator. Other than that it was a great place to stay and would stay again.

Staff are very helpful and welcoming. Rooms are tiny, $15 to park on a gravel pit is a bit ordinary. Location is great and bar service as was the food. If like Indian food go around the corner from the hotel, have the best authentic In.

Location excellent but room was very small, no windows or ventilation. We were told that there were bigger rooms at extra cost. So if you are prepared to be squeezed like sardines in a can for budget purposes then fine! Lobby very comfortable with excellent bar/cafe for a room escape! However the corridors and room had a horrendous plastic smell! Wouldn't stay again.

Small but no probs. Stayed a week. No window but we knew that. Everything we needed was there. Would stay again. Extra for the parking but worth being in the city centre.

Great room and staff. Website should be more transparent about parking cost and deposit. Most people won't troll through the fine print so the important information should be noted on the availibility and pricing page. Other than that I loved it!

Great value comfortable hotel right at the city centre. Rooms are compact but have everything that is needed, we had the room upgrade and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and parking was convenient.

Good value for a good room, true it’s little. But be honest you only sleep in your room and have a shower. Only if you wish to have a open window or that can open or a window. Than you need to manage that. Good hotel!

Clean and modern rooms. Bed is big and comfortable with special lights and alarm system. Bench space and TV. Bathroom is very small. Hotel has large reception area with lots of seating and a bar/cafe. Colourful and sleek decor.

We just needed a room to overnight before catching a flight the next day. We booked a cheap room that ended up being no bigger than a cruise line cabin but it suited our purpose. Location was excellent and very handy to the bus terminal. The breakfast and dinner was more than adequate. We'd certainly stay again.

I was here for a two day conference/workshop. Did the basics well. The lunch each day was pleasant. Right in the middle of the city which is a bonus.

Location is great and near city centre. Reception is 24-hour and staff are friendly and helpful. However room is quite small for 2 people and cheap fare is bundled with no room service and room with no windows. Adequate room facilities available. Overall, a good stay although I wouldn't recommend for a stay longer than 2 nights.

BreakFree on Cashel provided affordable accommodation in the centre city. The room was compact, but good use of mirrors to disguise this (didn't feel too small). Minimal kitchen utensils, not suited for someone trying to eat in the room.

Stayed here twice on a tour round NZ, big comfortable beds, with laundry facilities, a gym (didn't use it) and breakfast (didn't eat it). Location seemed fairly central, but I didn't spend much time in Christchurch so I wouldn't know. So overall, I don't really know much about this place, but it seemed nice so 5 STARS!

Anna has provided impeccable suggestions of nearby restaurants. Great service behind the counter and clean hotel. Ambient lighting in the room bathrooms give a different yet novel vibe. The gym is small but has a dumbbell weight rack which is surprising. Highly recommend the stay if anyone is ever staying in Christchurch. Onsite parking is also free for hotel guests if you're renting a vehicle.

Great location, friendly helpful staff, upgraded our room on arrival, nice view from room and great in-house facilities, bar, cafe, etc.

Very modern and comfortable accommodations! The downtown location is fantastic, right in the heart of things making everything we wanted to do an easy walk. We had an Inner Urban Queen, and I found it to be plenty of space despite what other reviews had warned. The bathroom in the room (there is a smoked glass divider, but it's not really a separate room like we're used to) is definitely different, but didn't present any issue for my wife and I. Lobby had plenty of space, and breakfast was generally good, though the hot selections were a bit lacking. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely book here again!

We slept well, the location is good, and I heard from others in our group that the restaurant was very good. Our room was dated, though clean. There was not much room for luggage. There was only only one pillow each.

Great for a quick stay. Cheap, but not cheap looking… I love the economical use of space in the rooms. Tiny yet feels spacious.

Good rooms for the price. No windows are a bit inconvenient but you get used to it. It is very small but again not a major issue. Unfortunately it's very easy to over sleep in those rooms due to lack of natural light. Smart TV is very useful and the shower is amazing… can go insanely hot.

I really did like this place very much. From walking in the front door, I felt comfortable Anne on reception greeted me as well as any 4* place I've stayed and check in was seamless. My room was at the end of the corridor, a fairly long walk but straightforward. I smiled when I opened the room door. Yes it is compact, but very functional. I booked a room with window — a MUST for me as I am a natural light fan. I am very tall but found the bed comfortable, not too soft at all. Everything worked well and I didn't need the aircon. This would be good for a couple for one or two nights and was perfect for me for the one night.
So easy to get to from the airport (29 or purple line bus to bus interchange and then 2 minute walk). If I ever go back to Christchurch, I will stay here again.

Perfect for one nights stay we had a room with double bed and toilet/shower. No window which was no biggy, my only complaint is that it was quite hot at night and the air con was not working however when I phoned desk they did bring up a small fan for us to use. We had breakfast included and it was great, definitely recommend and would go back. Thanks.

Tiny and funky rooms. Value for money, did not have breakfast. Like that u can have "disco" in the shower. Since I had a room with no window, maybe u could have a camera connected from outside going back to the TV so u dont need to go down and check it. Just to be lazy =p Alot of work around the hotel, that includes the rest of Christchurch as well. It is understandable consider all the earthquakes. Overall, as anyone else write, many things are in walking distance. Its a nice hotel, staff is kind (very helpful, one of the cleaning lady), easy to find. 2 min walks to the Bus Interchange.

The best hotel price/quality in Christchurch.
Inadvertently picked up a room without Windows. Caused concern. Claustrophobia never existed, but all of a sudden … However, everything was not scary. Moreover, the absence of Windows does not felt, probably due to the lighting system and a huge mirror.
Overcrowding and lack of wardrobe. There were just two hangers and hooks on the door. Also under the clothes had to accommodate the Rails outer door shower cubicle. In the end, everything turned out something like a hang, but still not quite suitable for a long stay with a bunch of clothes.
The hotel is new and modern, and resembled the cabin of the spacecraft. Navoročennoe lighting, SMART TV available (Russian-language channels), Wi-Fi (500 Mb free), good shower, air conditioning, and even a teapot. But the most striking was the iron and ironing board!
Next public transport stop running including the airport.
Breakfasts are standard, not Thompson in variety, but cooked very tasty: scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, juices, pastries, meats, etc.
Staff loyal. Room cleaned every day. Everything is clean and neat.

Awesome hotel, modern, quiet, slept really well. Reception staff were great (upgraded room to twin instead of double since it was my daughters birthday). Spent the next night at Rendezvous but would have rather stayed another night here.

The rooms were neat and tidy, they were kinda small but that was expected. Service at reception was highly available being 24/7 which is great.

A very interesting take on what a hotel should be. Good value for the price. Modern furnishings and mood lighting make a great impact. Excellent location. The bathroom *inside* your bedroom is a bit odd. If the space for the toilet wasn't so small, I'd have given 5 stars.

Central location, reasonably priced. There are only few dining options nearby, most of the restaurants seemed not started after 2011. Size of the room was ok. Check in /check out was ok, although they could not locate my reservation quickly.

It was very reasonably priced and very close to the Bus Interchange for the service to Picton and the ferry to Wellington The staff were so pleasant Room was small but everything provided — I would stay there again.

Stayed in the smallest of rooms which was about 10'x7' including bathroom, and was totally impressed with the thought that went into the small space design and technology in the room.

The hotel has free 500mb per room per 24 hour period. Also, the smart TV in the room is an added bonus! One of the more modern and high tech hotels!

Stayed at Breakfree of Cashel a couple of weeks ago when in Christchurch for a traiing course. I had an inner urban double and it was the perfect size for one person. Very clean, good facilities and would highly recommend.

We stayed in this pokey wee room on the 4th floor, you could hardly swing a cat in it! but had a king size bed which was really comfy, the shower was good altho could do with more room to move, and also the door was hard to close so if you wanted to use the toilet you had to sit with the door half open. Not good!. Breakfast was not a good experience and a total rip off, if you wanted real coffee it cost extra! for $126 a night and thank goodness it was only one night it wasn't worth it. To me it was only one step away from a backpackers… maybe it was a backpackers! but will not be staying there again.

Not bad overall if you are just keen for a place to sleep. Things to be aware of: There are rooms without windows, so ask before you book. It is not a 5 stars hotel (does it actually has any), so don't expect rooms to be perfectly clean. (BreakFree cleaners could do a better job I guess). Apart of that it's quite new, modern and worth $90 for the small room I got.
