Vientiane Backpackers Hostel Hostel

A worker at this hostel was sexually harassing a women and then assaulted a friend of mine (broke bottle over his head and sent him to hospital). The owner did nothing. The guy still works there. This place is unsafe. Beware!

BEWARE :: 42yo male night staff was sexually assaulting a female patron. I asked him to stop multiple times and was told to leave the room. When I objected he punched me in the face, hit me over the head with a beer bottle, threw a chair at me and then ran off shortly only to return with knives telling me that I was going to die. Filed a police report and the police have the CCTV footage. Still works there. Shameful. Don't risk it, stay anywhere else this man is not working. They even used my stolen phone in this mess to write a fake review on tripadvisor before "finding" it and giving it back when I came with the police.

The hostel is fine. I think it's pretty standard for this city and it was quite cheap. I stayed in the 20 bed dorm which still has plenty of space in it. Plenty of room to fit a big backpack under the bed in safe storage. If the hostels was full then I guess it'd be pretty crowded.

There were bedbugs and the staff was very unfriendly. We told the guy at the reception that we had seen some bedbugs, he did not believe us and we didn’t get any money back.

Breakfast is included in the rate, a rare occurrence in the country.
On the other hand, it's too expensive. We paid for hotels of the same quality for half the price.
We also found bed bugs in our room. The safety of the premises leaves something to be desired with traces of dried blood on the sheets.

SCAM: for 30USD the manager booked for us a VIP bus to Bangkok here. What we got was a crapy old normal bus worthy no more than 12USD. Other 4 people were with us and got scammed the same way.

I stayed here in October 2015. The owner seemed nice and the dog was so friendly. However, one night, I went down to the bathroom to wash my face. No one else was around and the owner came up behind me. He started massaging me and telling me I needed to loosen up. I told him I was ok and did not need a massage. He wouldn't stop. Instead, he moved closer and pressed his junk against my behind and kept holding me by my shoulders. I felt trapped. He told me that because I was friendly and smiled, it gave him the impression I wanted more. I told him that was not the case and continued to say I did not want what he was doing. There was no one around (everyone was upstairs in the rooms) and I was too scared to fight him off. I froze out of fear that he might hurt me if I tried to run. Luckily, he finally let go after maybe 5 minutes. He lingered around in the bathroom though. I immediately went upstairs to stay with the new friends I met at this hostel. I told a couple of these friends but they didn't believe me because this hostel owner seemed generally friendly and nice. It was late at night, so I stayed safe among the others the rest of the night, then immediately packed up and left first thing in the morning. I had originally planned to stay at this hostel for several more days, but did not feel safe after this incident. I don't know why he did this to me and no one else.

I stayed here for 2 nights and its nice. This is the best in terms of price for backpackers they offered free breakfast included from 7-10 AM.

The reception is kind. The breakfast here is free but the smell of dorm need to be improve more.

I stayed one night in the big dorm at the first floor — in bed Number 8. Something stung me during the night. At first I thought it was mosquitoes, but then it was also under the blanket too. When I turned on the light, I saw countless bugs. I could kill a few!
Then I slept in the lobby on cold tiles. The guy at the front desk did not care about the story, even though I showed him the stitches and a bug. So please: look for another hostel!

The room look very different than the picture show on the website. I was disappointed and the staff was not very helpful either.

Dorm for 40k kip, including brekky till 10 am (after 10am it cost 15k kip) eggs with toast. Good location, really central. Staff is not so helpful just doing their work and dont care about your experience. The hostel is never locked/closed during night time. When I was there it was raining and it started to get in a lot of rain inside the hostel, holes in the ceiling. The whole staircase was full of water and also it came in water inside the dorm. When I woke up the next morning my bag was totally soaked. Toilet, shower and lobby is dirty. Beds are clean and fresh with light and power outlet. Wifi is decent, good connection in the room.

Breakfast included at 40000 KIP. Air conditioning is effective. There is an outlet and light one by one in the bed. Breakfast can be chosen from three kinds, but it is very simple.

Good for backpackers on a low budget. Light, electric socket and safe box for the backpack in every bed. Hot shower. Privacy isn't strong in here though.

Clean rooms, hard beds (as everywhere, if you come to Asia for a nice bed you'd be better of in a hotel) and good Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi works in lobby and the dorms, aswell as outside of the building. Way better Wi-Fi than most hostels in Laos. Free breakfast (small but sufficient if you have an early lunch) and you can buy shakes/tea/coffee/water in the lobby. Would go back if I find myself in Vientiane again.

Really chilled place. Quiet and one can just relax. Loads of tourists here, so plenty of new buddies to be made. Great to hear everyone's travel experiences. Good food and beer is cheap. Will cost you 40 000 kip per night.

On the first floor near the shower and kitchen there are big cockroaches, I had to kill some of them. Wi-Fi internet-channel is very weak, it's impossible to connect to the internet on the second floor. On the first floor I tried but it was very bad channel. Not a good place to stay. It hasn't shelves in showers so you should think where to put your soap and shampoo. It's too mercantile place you should pay for every cup of coffee or tea. It provides breakfast but it is small. It's not for a long stay. Renting of bicycles is expensive, you can find more cheaper even on the street. It has bad roof. Room is really spacious and has air conditioning, but unfortunately it hasn't a table for stuff. It provides a PC to work for free. Printing is paid.

We went in to get a shower, which was good and cheap — 10, 000 kip for shower and 5, 000 if you need to borrow a towel. I got a smoothie while I waited. Paid the lady. But when I left, she ran after me and said I didn't pay. My cheap shower ended up doubling in price. Beware!
