My partner and I stayed at Ryokan Hakuhou for our time in Kyoto. It is a lovely little cozy ryokan with onsens, a rest area with manga and a free to use massage chair. We booked a traditional tatami room and it was great to experience a traditional Japanese room, I would highly recommend if you are up for it! The location is fabulous as well, a small walk to the train station and lots of shops and restaurant nearby. Nara park is only a walk away. There is also a daifuku (Japanese mochi) shop right out front which serve delicious mochis in various favours.
The owner/staff was very kind and helped us with luggage transfer. There is a language barrier but he was very accommodating and knew some English.
