After staying in some lovely and very different sorts of accommodation already in Japan, Allamanda Nara is our favourite so far.
It has an inviting Japanese garden out front and a reception decorated with a small selection of local handicraft.
Beautiful room; fantastic food and refreshments.
Our experience at this hotel was quite unpleasant. We rented multiple rooms, and in one, the toilet seat didn’t work, while in another, the toilet flush was broken. We ended up having to fix it ourselves since the staff offered no assistance. The rooms are spacious but very old and not well-maintained.
To make matters worse, upon arrival, we were met by a front desk staff member who spoke no English, which made communication nearly impossible. There is no elevator, and staff didn’t help with luggage, making it difficult for elderly guests. If you don’t speak Japanese, you’re unlikely to get any help during your stay.
On the positive side, the parking is free and very convenient, and the location near Hokke-ji Temple is good for sightseeing. However, the restaurant often closes early when they run out of stock, which makes meal planning frustrating.
Overall, this hotel isn’t a great option for non-Japanese speakers or anyone expecting modern amenities. We’ll definitely be staying elsewhere next time.

We stayed at Hotel Allamanda for 2 nights while visiting Nara and I’d give it 4 stars. The staff were super friendly and just really nice the whole time. I also liked that you can leave your room key at the front so you don’t have to worry about losing it while you’re out.
The hotel is in a more rural area, so just keep that in mind. We walked about 8 minutes to the bus stop and took that into Nara, which was pretty easy. Walking back from Nara Station was around 35 minutes, so it’s doable but kind of a trek after a long day.
The room was clean and actually a lot bigger than the one we had in Tokyo, which was a nice surprise. My favorite part was the jacuzzi tub, it felt so good to relax in after walking all day.
Overall, it was a really good stay for what we needed on our short Nara trip.
