The Fufu property in Nara is a haven.
Once you enter its gates, you leave behind the bustle of Nara Park.
No FuFu offers a better welcome. The staff immediately made themselves known, and to my delight, Takako Fujii, the Assistant Manager, appeared.
The combination of my plan to climb Mount Wakakusa and Takako-san's suggestion to visit the Artisan Market made perfect use of the time available.
By the time I walked across the stream in the ornamental garden in the evening to the restaurant, I felt I had been there much more than a few hours.
Once I had been ushered to my Washitsu with its charming nighttime view, a wonderful culinary journey began. Those who served me during my stay were a delight. On the second night, I enjoyed Teppanaki, where everything was cooked to perfection and was surprised and thrilled by the Italian-style dish teeming with flavour in amongst it all the riches of the evening.
My days were full of adventure. To return to my suite and the Onsen with its view of forest trees was the perfect counterpart. I have never felt more rested after a couple of hours. I was thrilled there was a small Bose Link to connect to, so you could let the sound of a Shamisen in, or the likes of the compositions of Toru Takemitsu.
Throughout, the room maintenance was of the highest order, and much attention was paid to my schedule so I remained uninterrupted.
Like the other Ryokans, I wore the Yukata. This may seem like some form of fancy dress, but it is not.
FuFu resorts have always exceeded my expections and FuFu Nara is no exception. Service is excellent from the time you arrived. As we drove, the staff took care of parking the car as the car park is limited. Checked in was at the lounge with a welcome drink. As this stay came with dinner and breakfast, they reconfirmed the time and food allergy that my husband has. After that, they will show you to the room. My accommodation was a Precious suite so it was spacious. Drinks in the fridge were complimentary except for those with price tags. When u stay at Fufu, you do not to bring alot of toiletries or pajamas. There were cleansing oil, face lotion and facial gel. When you go for dinner or breakfast, you can wear the Japanese attire provided. Dinner was teppanyaki and it was exquisite!

Extremely Disappointing & Overpriced – Worst FUFU Experience by Far.
I have stayed at FUFU Hakone and FUFU Kawaguchiko many times before. The service and experience were always excellent, so we decided to try FUFU Nara during our first Kansai trip. We booked two rooms (Precious Suite + Premium Corner Suite) for one night — this was the highest price we have ever paid for any FUFU property (around $20, 000 HKD total).
Unfortunately, this stay was deeply disappointing. It was not only far below the usual FUFU standard, but in some ways even worse than normal hotels.
The staff attitude felt indifferent and perfunctory. Many requests were handled slowly or ignored. Communication was slow even though we are repeat guests.
Small things that disappointed us:
• Only four bottles of water were provided. When we asked for more (reasonable for an onsen hotel), we were told we had to pay for extra.
• No public onsen, no complimentary hot chocolate milk or beer (unlike Hakone and Kawaguchiko).
• The private onsen was not hot enough.
• No hot water available in the morning after using the onsen.
My parents are over 70 years old, and we expected much better comfort at this price.
The dinner at Teppanyaki Kuri was also rushed. The chef seemed eager to finish quickly. We completed the whole course in just one hour. Even while my mother was still eating rice, staff asked if we were done. Popular items like abalone and lobster were already sold out when we arrived.
