Deer hostel

Rooms are for 2 persons in bunk beds or double for couple or family. Convivial space well organised on the ground floor. The only negative point is a very tiny bathroom/ toilet.

The hotel was okay, not too dirty and the staff was also okay. The bathrooms on the contrary were stinky the ventilation is not sufficient and they don’t do a deep cleaning there’s mold growing and a permanent humidity smell in them.

I left my kindle at this hostel and had confirmation from that my e-reader was turned in yet I have yet to hear from this hostel. Why? Because.
1. It’s not Japanese-owned.
2. They don’t have a working phone number/email.
3. After reading some of the reviews on here it makes sense why they wouldn’t return my property: Bed bugs, bullying from the owner, etc.
I even had booking. Com reach out to them and they STILL won’t respond. I don’t think they ever will. Keep your money and never stay here.

The staff were nice and accommodating, the floor where people walked was clean, there were books and tables near the kitchen in the lobby, and the hostel is next to most sight seeing landmarks, but that’s where the positives end. There were some problems. The walls are so thin you can hear people walking and using the bathroom, the towels smelt bad, the floor was clean but very dirty under the bed with chip crumbs and lots of dust, though I never ate or drank in my room, and a water bug was on my bed frame at night. The water bug, similar to a roach, kept going into my clothes and under my sheets. A second one came later in the night after I killed the first.

I had a very nice stay. The location is perfect, the staff was helpful, they speak English well. The place is clean. Woke up at 5 am, went out the door, greeted by deers! It's definitely worth every penny.

We stayed for a few nights. The guy at check-in offered to cancel the booking and pay without a reservation with a discount code. When checking out I understood why. I was bitten by bedbugs. Looked at the reviews here and saw that it was not the first time. Do not stay here. The owner does not keep the place clean. We lived in room 202. Check other comments and you will see that there are more such cases.

The only good thing was that my bed was good. Other than that, it was very dirty. I stayed for 2 nights, but I couldn't even take a bath because it was so dirty. The toilets smelled of urine. I was disgusted even to fill water in the kitchen. Since I stayed in February, the rest of the house was freezing cold except my room. You cannot sit without a coat.

This location was good. The room (for 2 people) was small, but clean. But this place is problematic in a number of ways:
It’s a hostel that can attract a party crowd that makes noise. It sounded like a frat house with vomiting, singing and whatnot.
There’s a small entrance where you remove your shoes and everyone’s shoes were in this small space scattered about in a pile. There was literally no place to walk to get in or out in the early morning.
On the first night I check in the young male manager knocks on the door asking for us to pay in cash. We had booked via Booking. Com with a credit card, but he said if we cancel the booking and pay with cash, he would give us a better rate. This is way beyond sketchy, and obviously a way to avoid paying taxes to the government.

I spent the last nights in this hostel where the only positive side were the people I met there.
Other than that, the hostel is dirty, the man of the staff enters the female dorm without even knocking, they don't explain you anything. Compared to the Japanese standards, this hostel is really low standard.
And so, I left my review on Booking and look how the owner of the hostel replied to me. He INSULTED ME saying I'm a loser hahahah this is hilarious! I wonder how this person can work with customers.
EDIT: update after the owner replied to my comment, again insulting me of a "white ignorant person". This hostel is not held by japanese people. So, the quality standards are really low, regarding the cleanness and how they treat people.
Before you book, keep that in mind. These are not Japanese people. You will be disappointed by them.

Nice. The beds were comfy and everything was clean and tidy. The location was excellent and only a short walk to all the attractions.
The Japanese bathrooms were super small, but there was a little apology sign for that, which makes it okay 😜
Soaps and shampoos were provided.
Although I'm pretty confident most of Japan is really safe, there was a massive lack of security in this hostel. No lock on the front door or bedrooms. This doesn't bother me so much but I could see how others wouldn't like it.
The common area was nice and cosy, although didn't seem very social to me. There was a small kitchen with tea and coffee provided too. Overall pretty nice though.
Nara was enjoyable to explore 👍

Very nice hostel located next to the main attractions of Nara (Nara Park, Naramachi). We had our own room and it was very comfortable, clean and quiet. There is a common living room and kitchen as well as a small patio. From there, you can access everything on foot. Including the two train stations!

Good hostel! We had a private room that was really nice for an amazing price! 20 min from the deer park walking.
The guy who checked us in was a bit sketchy tho, he said I could cancel my stay on booking. Com to not pay the small tourist tax. Even tho my app said the cancellation would cost me the full amount of the stay. So yeah, almost paid double.
After all, good stay! Would recommend.

I'm usually really not meticulous in terms of cleanliness but the toilets/showers were really dirty and smelly.
And I don't recommand sitting on the coach or in the chairs in the living room because I got bitten a lot of time in a very short period by something…
Because I was afraid of bedbugs, I had to wash everything after and it was a bit stressful.
I am very sorry for the negative comments but I think people should be warned.

The location is the only good thing to tell about this place that is frankly the only bad hotel I have stayed after 6 months in Japan. Noise, very dirty specially the shower, at night people gather in a patio to smoke next to the windows of the rooms. Sincerely worst place to rest.
