Mulan.
The staff here is super duper kind. The whole place breaths the boutique hotel atmosphere. Beds were very good and rooms and furniture seemed new. The desk was comfortable because there was a reading light on it. The curtain was very decent too!
Also I appreciated the estheatic of the shared washing room. The amenities were superb bc Mulan provides facial cleanser amongst others.
The kitchen and lounge is beautifully decorated too. The coffee machine was cool too and appreciated by my Mom🤠
Also staff provided beautiful maps that were usefull to find our way the city. The breakfast was provided by cafe ran zan. Which is in located in the next street and a cozy place!
I would have liked a reading lamp next to the bed.

Highly recommend! I spent 2 weeks here with my husband — we had the private Japanese room. It was quiet, SUPER clean (they use a Dyson vacuum! ), had great amenities, and best of all, the location was incredible… 1 minute walk to a bus stop, 3 mins walk to the train station, 5 minutes walk to an onsen, 10 mins walk to the river and bustling touristy neighborhood where all the restaurants are (and another 2 train stations and bus stops), as well as 2 mins from a hiking trail. The owners are very sweet and accommodating too! Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed there for 2 weeks with my wife and we had a great time. We had a private Room Japanese style, simple, clean, mattress and linens comfortable. Common areas well maintained and practical. The owners are a really sweet couple, very caring, pouring a lot of love in the place. The neighborhood is just so good, 5min walk to a great onsen, very close to the river and mountain for beautiful nature walks and and small hikes. Also very convenient for transportation, to get around the city from there. I recommend!

A very stylish hostel. I had one of the best nights sleep! The place is very clean and well designed. Make sure you get the front door code at check in. I had to ask another guest.

This was the friendliest service of 5 hotels we stayed at in Japan. Location was fantastic, everything was clean, and I enjoyed chatting with other guests in the kitchen. Having coin laundry in the building was also super useful. Highly-recommended.

All the buildings are so clean, Very kind and friendly host before we check out the host gave us the postcard so nice I hope I will go there again next time love from Thailand ❤️❤️❤️

The days I had spent at Mulan hostel were definitely one of the most memorable days in my life. It’s not located at the center of Kyoto though, it’s a good chance to explore the area out of central Kyoto. It’s easy to reach as well, just 30 minutes direct bus from Kyoto station or walking 3 minutes from Hankyu Arashiyama station.
If you’re a morning person, the Bamboo forest in the early morning is something you couldn’t miss when visiting Arashiyama. You could experience Arashiyama streets without crowds before 9am. Mulan has provided bicycle rental by ¥1000/day, and you would enjoy the morning wind blows on your face when you’re cycling on the way to your breakfast, no matter any seasons.
Mulan has also provided nearby cafe’s breakfast voucher for sales. Walking distance 1 minute and their breakfast was rich and yummy 😋
The onsen nearby, Fufu-no-yu is another place which is a must to visit as well. Even if it’s raining at Arashiyama, spending your evening at Fufu-no-yu will is a refreshing experience. Mulan has also discounted vouchers provided.
The iconic attractions in Arashiyama are exactly the Torokko Romantic train and Hozugawa boat. People are always flowing in Arashiyama for these two attractions during Sakura and autumn season. To me, these two attractions are worth to visit no matter what seasons, as you would get totally different views from other seasons.
Just like Japan has different kinds of flowers and plants in different seasons.

Very cute and nice hostel in a quiet part of Kyoto. Great access to the bamboo forest and the area. Very well equipped with great attention to detail. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. We stayed with our 5 month old and the hosts were very accommodating. Highly recommended.

This was a surprisingly great hostel. Ultra clean, great location and super friendly staff! I do want to mention that its not wheelchair friendly because there are only stairs to the dorms. Usually I wouldn’t notice something like that but there are actually a lot of stairs. The common area is pretty simple but really nice and clean! I will probably stay here again coming back to Kyoto 😊

Light, airy and very welcoming atmosphere. The staff (the young couple) were very professional, friendly and extremely helpful. They were always greeting and smiling. The location of the hotel is great. The room was very clean and well equipped with all essentials. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to the tourists who want to go to Kyoto. 10 mins walk to togetsu bridge and other tourist attractions which mean that you can get there early in the morning or late in the afternoon when there’s not that many tourists.
