Villa Borobudur Resort

We took a mid-term break during our travels in Java in this beautiful hotel. The surroundings are so green up on the hills, very relaxing. The staff is amazing and will do everything for you. We loved the afternoon tea, with everyday a delicious surprise. We went swimming in one of the pools early in the morning and afternoons. And in between visited Borobudur temple, the friendly village and Selogriyo temple. The hotel can arrange all your transport and will even pick you up down in the village to bring you back to the hotel. A special mention for the massage ladies! Highly recommended!

We booked this last minute as our original hotel (Plataran Borobudur) informed us of noisy building works at very short notice. Stayed in merebu three bed villa with pool…it grew on us as the days went by, the pool area was lovely as was the upstairs sitting and dining area. Room service excellent although the food quality was variable and after 5 days we got a bit bored with ordering the same things (not very extensive).
Our biggest issue was something that has been mentioned by many other reviewers, but in our opionion was ten times worse than described; the frequent (several times a day including at 0400am) calling to prayer from numerous temples in the valley below. The noise was unbeleivably loud at times. Maybe it was worse as it was apparently Mohammed‘s birthday when we were there, but it really did detract from what otherwise was an enjoyable stay. We of course respect the fact this is a muslim country but having visited numerous muslim countries in the past and actually found the call to prayer quite a soothing, calming expeience, this was quite a contrast.
We doubt there are any hotels in Borobudur that would not experience. Similar level of noise and Borobudur is well worth a visit…. But be warned!

Fantastic resort with service taken care of down to the smallest detail. Spacious room and two beautiful pools. Everything is clean and well-maintained. Day trips can easily be arranged through the reception. A special thank you to the lady who accompanied me to the hospital and guided me there. If I could give 6 stars, I would!

Not an easy journey getting to the hotel but was worth it in the end. Upon arrival we marvelled at the expanse of the hotel and grounds but once we settled in, we found it lacking in the finer details for a top rated hotel. The room was comfortable, the food ok and the service good. But it could be a whole load better. An enjoyable rather than a memorable stay. Thank you.

We had the most fantastic experience at Villa Borobudur Resort. The views are incredible, the swimming pools are heavenly and the food is fab. Most importantly, it was the staff who made the real difference — charming, friendly, warm, supportive and the most considerate and thoughtful people.
A big ‘thank you’ to Emma and Mifta for their help with a small medical issue — they could not have done more to help.
Also, a big shout out to Meli, Anna and Kabul for a wonderful cooking class experience for me and my son — we will never forget it.
And, another ‘thank you’ to Herman for entertaining us on our transfer from Yogyakarta and also for being our guide on our local cycling trip which was one of the highlights of our entire two weeks in Indonesia.
Yes, the hotel’s close proximity to Borobudur is a big draw, but the hotel is an experience in itself.
It is not high luxury — the rooms are simple, yet comfortable — so if you want something fancy, spend $2, 000 a night at Amanjiwo which is literally next door to Villa Borobudur Resort.
We absolutely loved Villa Borobudur Resort and will cherish happy memories made at the hotel forever.

Amazing view. Really friendly staff. Nice food at the restaurant. The shuttle drivers were fantastic. Great location near to Borobudar — you can see it from the hotel. Nice swimming pools.
Downside is that the rooms kept running out of hot water when having a shower which is a bit of a nuisance when showering kids. Also would suggest needs more vegetarian options on the menu if expecting more western tourists.

This property is a little remote and needs transport to go anywhere. The resort offers a shuttle to Borobudur. We had a junior suite, which is quite basic. We rated it 3 star for the room. The main lobby and other parts of the hotel were under renovation. We saw the renovation and it should look nice once finished. Best part of our stay were the stunning views from the resort in the morning during sunrise. You have a beautiful view on the volcano, mountains and surroundings. The Borobudur temple can also been seen. The view made the difference and compensated for the rather average rooms and facilities. We guess that we will see a much nicer resort after they finished the renovation. The staff were very nice and helpful. Finally, warning about the very loud morning prayers before sunrise. Wear the ear plugs provided by the resort. Come here for the great view and relaxation after visiting the temple.

I arrived at 8pm, just to drop a friend. The villa is located on the highland. We have to hike for few hundred meters before reaching the villa. Resident's houses line the left and right of the road. Public car is only up to the lobby. The rest journey is taken by shuttle bus.
It seems wonderful up there, may be nest time I could feel it.

You know, it's one thing when you stay in a nice hotel that has spacious rooms and a friendly staff. It's entirely another when, as you approach the hotel and exit your car, they greet you by name, show you to your room (where they have souvenir water bottles for you), and they then bring down an afternoon snack of spring roll chocolate croissants and tea. Those are the little things that take ratings up a notch. Absolutely the best place we stayed in Indonesia, all for $100/night. Best value anywhere. Amazing views, glorious pool, a perfect getaway.

BEAUTIFUL SETTING.
For this hotel in the middle of the forest and just outside Borobudur village. Spectacular view to Borobudur bouddhiste temple. Beautiful rooms, spacious and well equipped. Very calm except during Mosque callings (sometimes very early in the morning and lasting very loooooong).
Personnel very efficient and friendly. Beautiful pool. Good local food.
On a very steep hill….

We had 3 great nights at the resort. Everything from checking in to checking out, the tours and the food was great. Very helpful and accommodating staff!
From the restaurant as well as from the porch and pool, you can see Borbodur as well as Sumbing and Merapi — weather needs to play along of course.
The resort is in the hills and surrounded by jungle. So if you plan to party, this might not be the right spot. And yes, there are all sorts of creatures in the jungle and flying and jumping around in the resort… we loved it!

It's based next to mosques, and you could listen to prayers all day. The location was very remote and difficult to reach.

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Borobudur and would recommend it. We stayed in Villa Kayangan which is at the top of the property and the view is magnificent. The pool area is outstanding and the Villa is very nice. The service at the resort is exceptional and the food is good. We planned all our excursions through the resort which was extremely convenient and reasonably priced. We loved our trips to Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, Selogriyo Temple, and Nepal Van Java. I will note the Villa is a little dated and some of the cleanliness could be improved. Additionally, the second bedroom is a little tight if you have two people staying in it. Also, as an FYI, you will be able to hear the call to prayer coming up from the many mosques below. Overall, it was still a great property to stay at.

Villa Borobudur Resort offers uniquely designed private villas with a different approach to hospitality. The resort did not just offer luxury, privacy and personalized service, but an authentic Javanese experience: a unique combination of culture, spirituality, history, nature, art and hospitality. It truly felt like going home.

This is a gorgeous gorgeous hotel. It's located on a hill facing Borobudur and Sumbing volcano. The property is so beautiful and the villas are just breathtaking. They even have a tea place to watch sunrise that they will drive you to if you ask. It's like right next to Amanjiwo, just as beautiful, and at a faction of the price. The staff is so helpful, we got driver and car for excursions and they are all top notch. I can't say enough good things about this place. The only thing to mention is that the villas are built on a pretty steep hill, so if you have mobility issues, make sure they don't give you a villa toward the top of the hill. Also, the call to prayer will wake you up at insanely early hours. But it's like that everywhere and nothing you or the hotel can do. Just take it as your sunrise wake up call.

It's an awesome location hidden in back hills not too far from Temple Borobudur. The room are spacious and decorated in traditional Indonesian decor. Lots of statues and antiques spread all over the property. It's clean and staff I very courteous and helpful. The breakfast was very good. We stayed for only one night but we wish we could have stayed longer.
I will highly recommend it.

Awesome setting, high above the town with the Borobudur Temple visible off in the distance. The common area and bedrooms have traditional decor. The bedroom and bathroom are spacious. The bedroom includes modern amenities, such as multiple charging ports, a/c and a writing table. For added protection, the bed had mosquitoe netting that did not appear to be needed when we were there. The internet signal was strong throughout the property. There is no tv. The pool was clean and inviting. The facility provides transporation to nearby sites and can arrange transport throughout the region. The staff was warm and accommodating. Food was simple and delicious. They had a well stocked bar and offered a good selection of wine. Caution… the steps from reception to the rooms and pool are steep. This is not the best location for patrons with physical disabilities. On site they have a wonderful vista for sunrise and sunset viewing.
