If you are looking for yet another of these extravagant and trivial resorts popping up everywhere this might not be the option for you.
The Pondok Tingal is within walking distance (! ) of Borobudur and two other lesser known temples. The rooms are simple but a great base to explore the town and other sights. The hotel was quiet and free of unnecessary tourist pleasing excess. It is comfortable enough for westerners without sacrificing authenticity, the rooms have a western style bathroom, ours had air-conditioning, and there's a beautiful swimming pool. The restaurant is simple, doesn't have a mile long menu but still has some western options among the local ones. Try the wedang uwuh! The staff is polite and smiley without being intruding.
If you are looking for more of a street food experience you just have to walk out of the hotel to dine on the sidewalk with the locals, with plenty of options to choose from.
After more than a week in Jakarta this town was a welcomed change. The streets are clean and have sidewalks that you can walk on, the weather is nice and not too hot. The village is nice, and there are shops and minimarkets, some speak english and and most are able to explain what they are selling and for how much.

My wife and I stayed here in a family deluxe room for her birthday for 3 days, for what we got, the price was very good, I also requested from the staff for a little birthday surprise and they really exceeded my expectations. The rooms were also cleaned very well and maintained very well, always filled ammenities.
Staff were above and beyond, well presented, friendly, have good english, always ensured we were having the best stay possible.
Food at the restaurant was delicious and also provide room service (for breakfast also).
There are many different activities provided by this hotel which we only had time to attend one, the vw tour, was really fun and exciting.
I would 100% recommend anyone to stay here just as I will be staying here again in the future.
