Dear Edda & Runar, thank you for the great time we had with you. We felt very comfortable, nice rooms, a great breakfast and all the people from over the world were always friendly and informal.

Had a wonderful stay at Eric the Red in February 2019. Whether you are in Reykjavik on holiday or working, this is an ideal home away from home. Everything you could need is provided. Edda and the staff were all incredibly warm, kind and helpful. The rooms are clean, cozy and well decorated. The service includes many personal touches, such as a packed to-go breakfast if you are getting up early, an extensive collection of books available to help plan your ideal visit, and decades worth of local knowledge and advice. Edda provides a comfortable environment where you feel part of a family, but you can also have plenty of privacy. The included breakfast service each morning is a lovely opportunity to meet the other guests and fuel up for the day. The breakfast included hot porridge, fresh baked bread, veggies and fruit, boiled eggs, cheese, cured meat and fish as well as various other surprises each day. Lastly, the location is unbeatable. It is nice and quiet, steps away from galleries, restaurants and the "big church" Hallgrímskirkja. It is a 7 minute walk to the Reykjavík's lively main strip, Laugervegur, and a 10 minute walk to the water. 5/5!

We definitely recommend this guesthose! The location is perfect, the rooms are very cozy and every morning you can enjoy a lovely breakfast.

Extremely friendly and helpful host, Edda. Clean and comfortable basement apartment that sleep 5 pax. We were so grateful that Edda pointed out where to get affordable good food to bake in the apartment itself. If we were to visit Reykjavik again, we won't think twice!

Loved this place! I spent 4 days with Edda and Runar at their Guesthouse and felt like I was home! From breakfast (home made bread! ) to the hospitality to the "to go" breakfast she made as I was leaving earlier than breakfast. My stay was great! And the location. Blocks away from the Lutheran church on the highest point (I can't spell it correctly. Not pronounce it either. But was beautiful and had someone playing the organ every time I stopped by. ) which led to the heart of the city. I did not have a chance to meet their lovely cat. But did love the chickens in the back yard! XOXOXO.

Edda and Runar were wonderful and made their home feel like home to their guests. Edda helped me and my father map out our day; I would have not seen half of what I got to see without her! It was perfect—I would not stay any other place the next time I come to Reykjavik!

Place is beautiful and hosts are lovely with amazing cat. The accommodation is in a good spot to explore the city next to the church, which also serves as a good landmark.

Can't recommend this place enough. We arrived and were immediately greeted by Raggi the cat and soon after by our host, Edda. She showed us to our room which was warm, comfortable and spacious. The room had a hob, microwave, kettle, tea and coffee, fridge, table and chairs, TV and a bathroom with WC, sink and shower. We were provided with plenty of bedding and towels which could be replaced daily. Edda brought us cake also which was very welcome. Breakfast was served at a large dining table in the main house where we were able to chat and mingle with the other guests. It was so lovely and friendly! Here we met our other host Runar, just as friendly and warm as Edda. Food served included fresh bread, cheese, meats, fish, fruit, eggs from their own chickens and cereal. Edda made us fresh oatmeal and coffee and even provided us with dairy-free milk due to an intolerance. Both Edda and Runar made us feel so comfortable and welcome in their home, and were more than happy to give us recommendations and local tips for our stay. I can't imagine staying anywhere better!

The hosts are lovely and will bend over backwards to help you with your trip. The rooms are perfect. The guesthouse is beautiful inside and out. Fully recommended.

A very nice and cosy inn. The location is absolutely top, you can reach all the important places in Reykjavik from here. The two hosts are very cordial and the breakfast is the opportunity to exchange views with the two or with the other guests and also to chat. The rooms are very clean and cozy.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 days and would highly recommend this place for numerous reasons. The hosts Edda and Runar is absolutely charming and hospitable, along with Raggi, the cat, who would walk us halfway to our room. I’m actually allergic to cats and had no issues at all, as the place is very clean. The daily breakfast served was fresh and in a room to mingle with other guests, a nice way to start the day. The perfect location, a block from all the bars, restaurants and shopping in downtown Reykjavík and across the street from Hallgrimskirkja (beautiful church). Ideal place!

The hospitality of the owners was unbeatable, the breakfast amazing (lots of variety and quantity, yes, from 08:00 to 09:00) and the room was large and comfortable. It Was appreciated to have in the room washbasin, fridge, kettle to make tea and coffee and hairdryer. The only possible drawback was that the toilet closest to our room was small and modest, but we didn't see the rest. The last day we had to leave the accommodation before breakfast and they had the detail of getting us a picnic.

Location could not be better, friendly family running the hotel, great breakfast. Highly recommend.

Definitely one of the best 'cheap' accommodation I have stayed in whilst I was visiting Reykjavik. It's situated very close to the city center of Reykjavik, so if you stay here you can spend a day or two wondering around town just by walking around. If you are catching a bus or coach early in the morning, for a whole day trip far away, just ask the staff to make a takeaway breakfast for you. It's amazing they will pack your breakfast for you before you leave, complete with a whole bar of chocolate! So generous and thoughtful. The breakfast is also worth staying in to eat, for at least one time, because you get to meet other guests and you don't have to fight for the food to feel satisfied unlike some other similar home stays. Though I have been to Iceland, I wouldn't mind staying at this place again. The beds are clean, and they have free modern duvets which are not folded under your mattress, like the old style of making beds! Some accommodation still use to make their beds this old way in Reykjavik, really a right mess when you wake up!

Lovely guesthouse in the centre of Reykjavik. A very warm atmosphere, created by the owners Edda and Runar and the cat Ragnar! :-) The rooms are comfortable and very clean! Wifi works fine! And every day starts with a yummy breakfast with all guests together at the big table in the dining room. Perfect to become acquainted with everybody from all over the world!

Good size room, very friendly hosts and a good breakfast with tasty porridge and freshly baked bread.

I really cannot thank Edda & Runar enough for an amazing stay at their house. They are so kind, friendly and welcoming and nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was also amazing with homemade bread and cakes. Their house is very centrally located which is an added bonus. I loved their cat as well and even came to chill with us in our room. I would 100 per cent recommend Eric the Red Guesthouse. A lovely gesture also made by Runar by trying some of their shark meat and a shot of their local alcohol which I felt very privileged. Thank you both of you.
