Great location, somewhat expensive for what it is. Rooms clean and comfortable if a bit dated. Service and staff generally good and friendly. The lift is a bit annoying however, and occasionally the water from the shower stops, possibly due to demand, but nonetheless not the best experience. Good breakfast options too.

We enjoyed our stay in Cuenca at El Dorado. The staff was genuinely caring and delightful, and the breakfast was great every morning—with the exception of the coffee. They even allowed us to check in early for a very small service fee, which we appreciated.
My frustration was with the room itself. I’m not sure whether we ended up with the smallest room in the hotel because we booked through Booking. Com or if all the rooms are similar in size, but ours was very small. The bathroom was cramped, and getting in and out of the tub/shower was both challenging and potentially dangerous due to the tub’s 19.5-inch wall that had to be stepped over. With the tub being narrow and tall, slipping felt almost inevitable. A young child would definitely need to be lifted in and out.
Additionally, the space between the toilet and the towel rack created only a 20–24 inch opening to enter or exit the tub—something better suited for a contortionist than a guest.
The room was too warm with the windows closed, yet too noisy with them open. Thankfully, I brought a fan. Street noise is constant, so if quiet is important to you, staying in the city center may not be ideal. The tram became our 5 a. M. Alarm every morning. The above average staff and the underwhelming room evened out to an average stay.
