I've stayed here twice and booked a private room. This is a great option for a budget private room. Just keep in mind the rooms are very small, you can barely fit your luggage in there. And the room may or may not have a window. But they have a common area where you can hang out and store luggage. The mattresses are soft, the temperature stays nice and cool, the Wi-Fi actually works well (rare for taiwan) and it's conveniently located near taipei main station. I don't have anything to complain about, which is a relief given all of the exceptionally bad experiences that I've had with hotels while traveling in Taiwan.
Positive : Clean, good location and value for money. The staff were nice. Good for short stays.
Negative : It is very compact, a curtain was separating me from the person next to me and I had to remove it anytime I wanted to leave so it felt like I was intruding on their privacy.

I spent three nights in a "Japanese style single room". It's basically a capsule with full room height. There is little room for luggage and the mattress is very thin — see photo with 10 NTD coin. It is most uncomfortable. The first poor night's sleep was further disrupted by a fire alarm at 4.45 am (false alarm, faulty sensor). Single rooms have much better mattresses. Air conditioning is a central system so no individual control, but I found the temperature comfortable for sleeping. Segregation of the sexes is strict: men and women on separate floors.
On the positive side, the showers are the best I found in Taiwan. There is a common area to socialise and relax on both floors, and one small kitchen. Location is excellent, being next to Taipei main railway station exit M8, once you have navigated the underground maze of the station.
As a bonus, Fuhang Soy Milk, Taipei's iconic breakfast place, is only a ten minute walk away.
