WORK INN TPE

I read the reviews before booking and I would say my overall experience was better than expected.
The location is conveniently beside M8 exit of the station. If you are arriving from TPE airport, you can walk to the M8 exit entirely underground. The hostel is also beside a 7-11 store. There was an elevator from ground floor to floor 9 for check-in (floor 8 is the men's floor).
Upon check-in, I was greeted in Mandarin. The staff can speak English. My private room is small but otherwise adequate. The room was clean upon arrival (no daily housekeeping). The washroom and facilities on the men's floor were regularly cleaned, never had any issues with cleanliness. You cannot throw toilet paper down the toilet. So, you had to throw toilet paper in the garbage can beside the toilet. It can get smelly, but there's an air freshener in each stall and spray for use. It wasn't that bad.
The room is not very soundproof. I can hear the shower, the sink and people walking by. Not a big issue for me. They do provide earplugs for free.
My room's temperature was really low or the AC was too high. I was able to ask the staff at front desk to adjust it for me and they did (you cannot adjust the AC yourself inside the room). They were very helpful — no issues.
I would book this place again on my next visit to Taipei. The location is conveniently beside Taipei Main Station and is walking distance to Fuhang Soy Milk.

I like my quick stay here.
Men are separate from women rooms.
The shower room can get messy because of water spills when taking a bath. Toilet has no buttgun/bidet.
No free towel but you can rent.
Room is good to sleep and rest.
Location is just beside the main station exit.
Ambience is good, you can use the fridge and microwave but gotta follow instructions.
Overall, a pleasant stay. Will book again when I get back.

Worst experience ever.
Totally regret booking this place.
The room didn’t even have toilet paper.
There’s a gap between the headboard and the wall that goes straight to the floor.
The air conditioner can’t be adjusted.
The floor is super dirty, and the wallpaper is peeling.
What the heck.

Great option if you need a budget room with a bed + table for one night on a day's short notice close to central Taipei. Great if you're a solo traveler and need a change of pace from shared hostel dorms.
The Y hotel across the street is much nicer and bigger for around the same price, but need to book a few months ahead.

Bring your own slippers/towels/toiletries or be prepared to buy it from reception.

Bare bones for a hostel, but convenient to/from the airport.
The building is quite old, so not great for the frequent Taiwan earthquakes! The stairwell was full of crap, which is a major hazard!
The room: The bottom bunks are literally on the floor… Hello dust bunnies!
Mattress thickness isn't too bad (but half of N. Am. Standards). I survived with a camping air mattress.
Room is rather tight/crowded; packed with too many beds.
Bunks have personal light, wall outlet, & a privacy shades/screens (a bit awkward to operate, esp. At night … don't know why they don't just do normal curtains!? )
Rooms have lockers, but the cleaning is questionable. Lots of dust in nooks & crannies.
There is a kitchenette, albeit small for the number of guests. Same for the lobby/dinning space, which look to be made using crates. ⚠️ Careful they can snag your clothes, especially anything knit. Ruined my new NET dress. 😡
Luggage storage shelf in the dining area, but it spills into the already small dinning space (wish people would learn to stack & organize, instead of randomly dumping bags, or staff would bother rearranging).
Laundry facilities available & a few items for rent/purchase: towels, slippers, tooth brush, detergent.
Staff is relatively efficient, but only do check in & check out & nothing more; don't seem to have any hospitality training, like giving travelers any guidance or orientation to the city, but great at taking cash quick. 😅lol.

Staff was rude when checking in and only mentioned how there is a fee if you check out late. Key cards are not compatible with other floors so if you want to do laundry and are on the first floor like I was, you will need to ask and wait for staff to open the second or third floor door for you every time. The laundry room opens at 8am and closes at 9:30pm so if you want to get up early to do laundry so you have all day to explore Taiwan, you can’t. The hours wouldn’t have to be so limited if the building didn’t have such a chaotic layout of the laundry room being inside the dorms. A designated laundry room would solve both these problems.
Additionally, the dormitory light stays on the entire night and staff refuse to shut it so it is ridiculously bright. Complimentary earplugs are given, but they should be including eye masks for how bright it is. Although there’s a sign to not use the hair dryers after 10pm, rules are not enforced and people use it till 12am so if you’re an early sleeper and placed right by the bathrooms like I was, good luck. Aside from all that, bed was comfortable, clean and AC was good.

Great location and reasonable price! Staff are friendly and they speak English. I stayed there 2 years ago and I'll come back this year!

Everything is brilliant in here, especially it’s close to the metro and a convenient store right beside the hostel. Staffs are so friendly and helpful, that was remarkable to me. It was so wonderful to staying in here, it will be my first choice if I looking for a hostel in Taipei.
