Sunset Mountain Inn

Normally I do not leave one star but I have to warn people. This place runs under multiple names. Paradise Resort and Sunset Resort. Do not book under sunset resort! you do not get access to the pool or hot tub! you have to book under paradise resort. If you ever 3 year old cry because his parents booked under Sunset. Misleading booking as they add pictures of the pool and hot tub. We had the same issue and I saw another group behing us do the same. Staff are great, they have to put up with upset guests. Sevice is great as well. The room is epic, but the no pool or tub is a huge let down.

Stayed one week in Jan. We were not informed as of Jan 1st 2026 sunset resort guests are no longer able to use the pool or hot-tub at the Grande. A big disappointment for us as we travel to Canmore with our grandchildren. We have always enjoyed our stay. Probably won’t be staying again. I understand it’s not their fault of Sunset Resort but that was our biggest reason we picked his resort.

This is a nice hotel overall, but for the price point, the experience fell short due to an overwhelming number of rules and extra expectations placed on guests.
The staff are genuinely wonderful — very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The room itself was clean on arrival, and the property is generally well maintained. That said, the value simply doesn’t align with the nightly rate, which is comparable to staying at a Fairmont-level hotel.
The biggest issue is the number of rules and potential charges. For example, the pool is in a separate building, but there are no towels provided at the pool. Guests must bring towels from their room and then return them, or risk being charged. With toddlers, this is extremely inconvenient — especially when you’re already carrying snacks, floaties, changes of clothes, etc.
There are also instructions posted throughout the unit about avoiding fees: all towels must be placed in the bathtub before checkout, the dishwasher must be run, recycling sorted, and more. I understand encouraging environmental responsibility, but at this price point, it starts to feel more like staying in a short-term rental than a hotel. The whole reason we chose a hotel was to not have to manage these tasks.
One other note for families: while the room looked clean, I wiped up something on the floor with a wet wipe my kids dropped, and the wipe came back quite dirty. This suggests floors aren’t mopped thoroughly between every stay.

Overall just OK.
The bad: Interior quite outdated, needs some major upgrades. Lights were kind of dim, bbq barely heated up when it was +3 outside. If you want access to the swimming pool, you need to walk across the parking lot, it's in a different building. There was only one thermostat in the living room so when the heat was on in the living room, the bedroom would turn into a sauna. They charged an extra $30 at the hotel for a fee that Expedia didn't charge, there was no indication of that ahead of time. To top it off they charged us $30 for two towels that they sent us pictures of that had a bit of makeup on them, but they never put them through a wash. Also, 5 PM check-in, 10 AM check-out, unusual hours.
The good: great location, the pool and hot tub were very nice, large rooms with a full kitchen and everything to cook a nice meal. Decent value for the money compared to other places.

Stayed 2 nights at a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom unit as a family of 6. Spacious living room. Kitchen with utensil, bowls, plates and dishwasher. A lot of place to go within walking distance, such as restaurant, bagel place, bakery, supermarket etc. The front desk is friendly and efficient. The pool is clean and well maintained. There is a restaurant just downstairs too. Laundry in the unit with laundry powder and dryer and indoor parking is included. This place located on the other side of the railway, so plan a few more minutes if you need to cross the railway to the other side of the town, but my kids enjoy looking at the endless train cars. Love having a coffee and watching the sunrise on the balcony! The location is about half hour to major tourist spots in Banff area.

Pretty fun and great stay. My only issues were the molds in the washer and staff smoking in a non smoking area by the entrance.
The staff were very friendly, kind, organize and clean (besides my issue). They also have an awesome indoor pool with a slide and big jacuzzi that is half outside! A small gym, a great restaurant and a game/activity lounge! I gope tjey address these issue. I would come back here if they do.

This was a great place to stay. The rooms were clean and well — appointed. Beds comfortable, but pullout sofa only average. Everything we needed for the kitchen was provided. Good quality bedding and towels. The in suite washer/dryer was helpful. Gorgeous views from the balcony. Easy walk or drive to restaurants, grocery stores and quick drive to hiking and Banff. Nice pool and gym at next-door resort. The main downside was the poor Wi-Fi strength — It could really only handle 1 person at a time using it. They were working to upgrade while we were there, but we didn’t notice improvement.

This is your typical timeshare condo. We had a two bedroom unit. The bedrooms were just barely big enough for queen beds and night stands. Both the main bedroom and living room had doors to a balcony that ran the length of the unit, so that was good size. The living room/dining area/kitchen was big enough for all three functions, and the largest space by far. The unit had a small laundry room and one bathroom. The unit was a bit smaller than most two bedroom units, but was adequate for our needs. We never used the resort facilities. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We had underground parking beneath our unit which was convenient. We could take an elevator directly from the garage to the third floor close to our unit. It wasn't that much more expensive than a regular hotel room, so it was a good deal.

The apartment was beautiful. We enjoyed the stay and would be willing to spend the whole vacation at such a place. There are some unique issues with the property, but if you are patient they work themselves out. Be sure to ask a lot of questions when booking so there are no surprises.

We got the 2 bed 2 bath suite with kitchen. Very spacious and includes free parking. Lots of amenities like laundry and kitchen tools. Would recommend if you have a car. No complaints. Check in was easy. Great place!

This was just what I needed. The room was located on the second floor and it was busy over the family day weekend but I did not have any trouble sleeping due to all the guests staying. The kitchen was stocked with nice equipment and there was a stall available for underground parking (which is shared by various businesses). Huge shout out to RUTH at the front desk who was so friendly, helpful, and helped arrange late check out for me.

Do not stay here — unless you want to stay in a worn out building will TERRIBLE service. The timeshare is basic and clean, but to be honest a decent room and location can't make up for terrible service.
This timeshare is listed as a Premier Resort but it is NOT. Paradise Resort Club manages a few units inside the very worn out Grand Canadian Resort Vacation Club which Interval says is Select. The result is that no matter what you need in your unit, the staff to whom you are speaking is not almost certainly not connected with Paradise Resort Club, and cannot provide fresh pool towels or garbage bags, or anything else you might need.
Our family group of 10 people booked 2 two bedroom units for a long awaited week-long family get together. Because Paradise Resort Club only manages a few units, we were placed on different floors, and at different ends of this endless complex. This was a problem for the elderly and the very young in our group, who had difficulty finding their way from one unit to the other.
Each unit had 4 shabby, small pool towels and these we were expected to launder during our stay. The pool was fun, and the kids enjoyed it, but the adults were constantly rounding up towels and ‘running a load’ because 4 fresh pool towels came at a cost of $25.00 per day. I spoke to Paradise Resort Club management and said this was unacceptable.

We are staying here currently and this place is a two or two and half star at best. This is not a resort and should not be called one. It is a dive motel that seems like it used to be an old folks home. Or maybe it is currently an old folks home? Either way, terrible. They will charge you extra for everything, so be careful. You show up and they tell you they are charging a resort fee and then don't really explain what exactly it is you're paying extra for. If it's for internet, why not mention that to begin with on your website? Why be sneaky and seedy about it? Also, charging extra for towels? Asking people to put used towels in the bathtub or you'll charge them extra? Your front desk personnel need some work on customer service etiquette. When my wife asks simple questions, or asks for clarification, don't get frustrated or give a dirty look. Just do your job. These rooms are old as. The hallways and rooms smell like they have been smoked in. As another reviewer said, this is a funky smelling place, honestly. They look like took decor is from the 90s. That walls are thin which means the building was built on the cheap. We have to stay here for one more night, but I will not be recommending this place to anyone else and moving forward we will not stay here again. As an aside,. Don't say you have a game room and then half your games are not functional.

So, we decided to conquer the Canadian Rockies on a whim (who needs planning, right? ). Turns out, every hotel in Banff and Canmore was booked solid. Panic set in! Luckily, we stumbled upon this gem. It's definitely 'decent' — think 'rustic charm' meets 'slightly-lived-in-appliances. ' The price was right, and the amenities were decent enough.
The drive to Banff was a breeze (about 20 minutes), which was a major plus. The staff were lovely, especially the friendly face at reception who saved the day. The master bedroom? Mountain views for days! But alas, the other room was windowless. Poor friends!
And the appliances? Let's just say the fan above the stovetop had a personality all its own. Think 'vintage industrial' meets 'slightly-terrifying. '
Overall? A quirky adventure with a touch of 'finders keepers' vibes. If you're okay with a bit of unexpected charm and don't mind a slightly-noisy kitchen, this place is a solid choice for your spontaneous mountain misadventures.

We had absolutely terrible experience at this resort. We do not recommend anyone to stay there. Our unit was very outdated with stains on the ceiling and funky smell. When we checked in we noticed that our bathroom fan was not working and bathroom was very stinky. We contacted the front desk and requested it to be fixed on the next morning as we were planning to be away for a few hours. Next day when we came back to the room we noticed that nothing was fixed. After day of skiing my 3 kids were ready to use bathroom, but couldn't. We called front desk and they told us that they were so busy that they forgot to send our request to the maintenance. Finally they sent maintenance person, who fixed our fan, but in about 10 minutes the motor blew up. We had enough and requested front desk to move us to an other unit. Our original unit had a view and we would have to pay $20 a day for the view. They moved us to the unit across the hallway without view. But I was so surprised to see that after all this terrible experience that was caused by front desk mistakes we were charged $21 for the view in the first unit. No sense of how to provide good service and compensate clients for the caused trouble.
We are not coming back to Sunset resort.

I booked last December as I knew this could be costly. Thank goodness I did. We checked in, for a wedding, at the Paradise Resort and Spa Club. Staff were outstanding. They put the three of us seniors/disabled in a condo in the Grand Rockies part of their property. I had originally asked for a room close to the lobby as we had mobility issues. When I checked in the girl at reception (I can’t remember her name, Jen V, I think) was so accommodating. I asked where the handicapped spots were. She walked me out to the front entrance and said. ‘See those patio doors, you park right here”. We were about 10-15 feet from our room. My crew was so happy. The room was outstanding. One bedroom with king size bed, private bathroom with tub and shower, and a tv. Kitchen with all the amenities. The other room had a queen size bed and private bathroom with shower. Living room had a great view, TV and fireplace. The rooms are very quiet and very clean. The pool was just across the hallway through some doors. Again no noise. Now if you want to get some exercise just walk the hallways. Holy it has to be the longest hallway in hotel history. If you don’t mind spending a little cash, I would stay here again. Also the food is outstanding.

Beds weren't comfortable and the hotel tries to get you to pay extra $20/night for a mountain view when the room stated it was already a mountain view… You're in the middle of the mountains, it's a balcony suite on the 3rd floor already, you can see the mountains. Don't be fooled by this fake extra charge. Don't accept it. Waste of a 20 dollar scam.
