The meals came out super quick and were delicious! Staff friendly and a lovely heritage pub atmosphere.

Only disappointment early bar closure, but understanding the difficult economic times that the entire hospitality and tourism industry is experiencing currently it is to be expected, so make sure, if you want a late night drink, to stock at one of the local bottle shops,

We had an awesome meal here. The Cape Grim beef was cooked perfectly with yummy chips, salad and mushroom gravy. The chicken schnitzel was super tasty and fresh! Staff was wonderful and a great vibe! We thank you all and will be back!

Expensive food with appalling service and it wasn’t that fantastic.

Ordered a Medium well steak receive a burnt steak. Very rude young guy (George) yelled at me and told me to go and fix mistakes on menu for he was sick of it all. Poor customer service will definitely not be back.

Friendly staff, great pub food and good background music.

I loved the history of this building, learning about the historic staircase (local Blackwood which was shipped to England to make it! ), reading the menu from a prime ministers stay in 1901, the lovely and accommodating staff as well as the newly renovated bathrooms! We enjoyed a dinner there, which they accommodated us at short notice. Who can knock a complimentary continental breakfast. Lovely stay.

My stay at the Empire Hotel was awesome! The staff was really friendly and the breakfast was delicious. Furthermore, I really like the old country style of the hotel and the architecture that creates an atmosphere of hundred years before. For sure I will come back to the hotel and to Queenstown in the future!

Reception is vacant during day, so was bar staff. Came off as slightly creepy due to old Victorian interior but bed was comfy n toilets were modern. Continental breakfast was cereal and toast. Pub kitchen closes at 7:30pm and pub crowd can be rowdy.

Did not stay at the hotel. Had dinner at the restaurant instead. Food is good. Being the only Asians there, we feel like aliens.

Had a good stay at the Empire and enjoyed lunch and breakfast in their dining room. We loved the century old architecture and Tasmanian oak heritage staircase. Our room was cosy and a great base as we explored the area.

Good value historic hotel in the middle of town and across the road from the railway station. Renovated shared bathrooms adjacent rooms, coffee and tea making facilities near stairwell. Dinners in the dining room are generous and good quality. Ideal place for an overnight stop in this interesting mining town.

Great service and value, we booked on last minute deals. Shared facilities but the manager was helpful and gave us s closer room to bathrooms. Some upgraded bathrooms looked and were amazing, we slept soundly in the dated but cosy room after a drink in the bar down stairs. With continental breakfast at such a good price it's value for $ would stay again. History all over the place and the locals happy to chat with travelers.

Staff nice & friendly, beer cold. One hour from ordering meal until it was on the table & that's after asking (twice) why four couple's who ordered after us were served first, one meal wrong, hot vegetables nice except corn on the cob which felt like it had just came out of the freezer, chicken cooked nicely, we were offered free desert, (choc pudding) us & one other couple in the dining room, 20 minutes later we left, still no pudding.

Comfortable bed, lovely staircase. Food well I don't agree with signage saying the BEST in Queenstown, it isn't good at all. Female staff are courtious, polite and friendly. I don't think I will stay there next year.

Very comfortable in my private sigle room. Good for people travelling alone! Toilets are clean all the time!

Had a lovely stay for one night. Warm, cosy, and comfortable rooms. The bed was also very comfortable for an undisturbed sleep. Had a beautiful rump steak for dinner and mmm it was yummy. So I would highly recommend the empire hotel for accommodation and a meal if you are inclined to stay in queenstown.

Fantastic old hotel. Wonderful history and the meal was superb. I would recommend a visit or a stay at this site. Must see the staircase.

Only place open just after new years peak period (?! ) for a feed (until 830pm), staff were a bit overwhelmed and kitchen ran out of beef, but they did their best with a smile and friendly service. Nice room, good price. Reg looked after us with tips for what to see and do nearby. It had awesome staircase and historical charm.

We were very excited to eat at the Empire Hotel which looked very cosy however we were highly disappointed with the bad service. Our orders were mixed up and the food took a long time to be served. We were especially shocked by the rude behaviour of the waitress who treated us differently to others. It is hard to believe that these things still happen in this day and age in Australia. When we asked for the gravy which we had already paid for she embarrassed us in front of all the diners as she very loudly and rudely told as to first pay and then she will get the gravy. All diners were looking at us when she did this. We had to report this rude behaviour to the manager who I must say was very co-operative. The food was good we enjoyed it. One person spoiled the dinner for us.

Service at the restaurant was not up to the mark. Firstly our orders were all mixed up and the last meal on the table came when all others in our group of eight had finished their meals. The waitress serving us was very rude and when we asked for some gravy with the meal for which we had paid for, she told us very loudly to pay for it at the bar counter. We told her that it was already paid for but she repeated the same sentence loudly for all the guests to hear in the restaurant thereby embarrassing us. Very unacceptable behaviour was displayed by her. The manager did apologise for her behaviour. When we finished and were leaving we heard her saying to her fellow waitress ' Thank God they are leaving '. Our New Year's eve dinner was ruined thanks to the arrogant and rude waitress. Will never forget Queenstown for this bad experience.

Hotel in a small town doing the best it can. New bathrooms have recently been put in, which are quite nice and modern. The food is not bad, the staff are helpful and the venue has history, if you're into that. You must bring your own soap shampoo etc. As they don't supply any. It suffers from the order the town is in, but it's doing well all things considered.

I had dinner here last Monday — in the dining room. Food was fine, although my “Paella Royale” would have been more honestly described as savoury rice. The servings were generous and the prices reasonable. On the down side the waiter was not able or willing — not sure which, to be sociable and welcoming — perhaps a bit stressed? There were no menus in the dining room — you had to go to the bar for them (how hard to have a few in the dining room? ). Once we had worked out that the waiter’s only job was delivering food, period, we ordered at the bar. Food came quickly, great. As previously stated it was fine. Sadly, our visit ended with a rather silly experience asking for a takeaway container for my son who had leftovers. The waiter told me to go and buy a container at the bar. The barman seemed confused, then pushed buttons on the register and asked me for $2.50! I think I muttered the words “mean spirited” before handing over the money and finding my way back to the dining room where the waiter proceeded to take my word for having paid and produced a rather overstated metal tray with paper lid — a plastic takeaway container would have been fine, or even wrapping in foil, like in the old days. So, an OK experience, but a rather uncomfortable end. I will look elsewhere next time — lots to choose from…

Service was excellent, very fast and friendly. Prices here are very good, especially for the steaks. The garlic bread we ordered was tasty, however the carbonara was too gluggy. Will be back, though, as some of the other meals ordered by the people around me looked amazing.

Solid pub grub, although I enjoyed the pie up the street just as much.

We were disappointed with the rude unfriendly response from a staff member when it the lovely blackwood staircase was highlighted as being worth seeing. We were made unwelcome and told the place was not open before 12 o'clock!

AMAZING FOOD! I cant believe the presentation and taste of the food at this pub. I had the vego stack and was blown away. The Hotel is clean and what you would expect from a pub of this calibre. So happy that I got to see and enjoy this place. Thanks!

Fantastic restaurant. Great chef and accommodation looked great. Wish we had booked thete instead of tired old motor inn. Friendly staff. Excellent.

Recently renovated rooms and helpful service. Our room had a bar heater and an ensuite with heat light. Typical pub meals and beers too.

In need of some TLC smelling musty in some rooms, good meals and authentic old world charm.

I highlight the possibility dinner in the hotel with a variety of dishes.

Steak blackened on an obviously filthy grill that had probably not been cleaned in years. Scotch fillet was full of sinew with the added insult of a 3 dollar payment for a small ounce container of gravy. Overall highly expensive with no attention to quantity or quality.

Perfect budget accommodation with the friendly staff and yummy continental breakfast. Would visit again!

Never again! I wanted to book a hotel in Queenstown New Zealand and booked instead this hotel. I noticed my mistake 15 minutes after the booking and contacted them to cancel the booking. Instead of an answer they charged me for the full 3 days.

Came in for dinner last night and it took 50 minutes to get our shared entree (fried Camembert) which ended up being 4 tiny pieces, then when mains came the medium rare steak we ordered was well done.
The bar lass was very good about it all and got another steak to replace it, however this time it was only slightly better (medium to well) though we were far too hungry by then to send it back again.
Chicken Parmy not bad though chips need to be on the side, not underneath.
Quality of food for the $ you pay would need to improve if I was to come back again.

The food was ok, the main problems came with the service. The food took an hour and a half to come out. I understand that mistakes can be made and orders can be lost but in this case they out right lied and said it was just being plated up. 10 minutes later one plate came out and it was another 20 minutes for the other two plates to come out. There was no apologies and no explanations. It is the lies rather than the mistakes that warrant this low rating. The up side is that it all takes place in a beautiful building. Would have been a pleasant meal otherwise so you could have better experiences than we did.

We had the pleasure of staying in this most beautifully quaint and 'old worldy' accommodation. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was amazing, for this we are so very thankful. The menu for both lunch and dinner were surprisingly sophisticated for 'Pub food' but our absolute compliments to the talented chef for delivering mouth watering, scrumptious meals time and time again. Service matched the high quality food that we had quickly become accustomed to. Highly recommend The Empire Hotel!
