Sevan Writers House

Went to a restaurant there. Although I speak Russian and clearly told what type of coffee wanted, they brought me 3 in 1 type. Don’t recommend stopping for a food. The owners (a couple) not only look angry, also get mad at you for bringing wrong food.

I booked this hotel because of it's a piece of history and I am interested in Soviet architecture, however the food on the breakfast wasn't fresh and for a dinner when we were there about 8PM the dinning room was already closed so we had to search for another place to eat where nobody will scam us.

Quirky and really cool to get to spend a night in such a unique and historic building. Although the property is clearly in some disrepair, the staff do keep it up and have nice flowers and the linens provided seemed clean. The bed was a bit creaky and hard, but the light in the room was beautiful. Breakfast was also generously portioned and yummy for 2000 dram. Biggest issues were that that Wi-Fi did not extend to the rooms on the third floor even with the repeater and that the shower head did not work (only dribbles of water). But the restaurant had good Wi-Fi. Staff was super kind, and the man handling check-in spoke English and the woman serving breakfast was very patient with my terribly broken attempts at Russian.

Went in hoping to have lunch and were shouted at by the owner for having the audacity to quietly admire an open and entirely empty restaurant. Fascinating behaviour.

Walked up to see this beautiful building, was my dream to enter this place. Was confronted by an angry big bald beast that screamed “this isn’t a museum, GET OUT” and he aggressively ushered us out the building. I wanted to love this place but seriously, protect your souls and observe from a distance. (Why would you purchase a historical landmark and refuse to share it with the world)

The rooms smell of cigarette smoke, the staff is terrible. A group of tourists simply refuses to stay overnight.

It’s so atrocious. The staff is rude and doesn’t want guests. Building is falling apart and in disrepair for such a high price. The manager literally yelled at us for checking out “late” even though checkout wasn’t for another 45 minutes, because their cousins were there and wanted a room that moment. Scam hotel!

As many other travelers already mentioned, and probably you reading this are here for the same reason, so am I. The historical significance of this venue is just cool, and just for that I'd recommend coming here.
Breakfast was nice tho. Location too. View is awesome as well.
However, the room of mine was below expactation. It wasn't cleaned well, the shower wasn't ideal (the bathroom in general — extremely small and inconvenient). The building exists out of just concrete now, which takes away its charm.

Location is great.
View is amazing.
We visited during first week of June. It was a bearable cold during the day, but the night was extremely cold. Not even the provided blanket, that didn't have the best smell, helped.
Other than that, the rooms were okay. The price was affordable, so can't complain.
The bathroom gets flooded due to the shower being on the same level without any division.
There are a lot of stairs, but definitely worth it.
Staff were kind.
Additional value to the story of this place.

Like most visitors, I came to the Writers House for reasons related to the history and architecture of the place. I did not stay overnight at the hostel, but the lunch (fish) I had there was tasty and very reasonably priced. Above all, the lady who served me was very friendly.

Very expensive, in my opinion. 4 coffees, compote and 4 baklavas cost almost 13, 000. This is very expensive, considering that in an excellent restaurant nearby, dinner for 5 people costs about the same.
The food was quite good, no complaints. The place is not for everybody, but the view is amazing.
What is noteworthy is that the room, despite the sign in the hall, was smoky, which was a shame because we were with a child.

We entered the restaurant only for lunch. Took soups, tabule salad and tea. The tabule salad was made with rotten tomatoes and cucumbers, the spas had a strange taste to it, as if the yogurt was old old (several days), we enjoyed only the chicken soup, which was though oversalted. We truly enjoyed only tea with mint ( (For our terrible experience we were asked to pay 5600 AMD including the service fee. When I complained about the tabule (which was obviously too old) they returned the 600amd ( (Don't recommend this place for lunch or dinner. The old building is worth seeing if you will be allowed to enter without using the restaurant service.

In 2 years I brought more than 20 clients to this cafe. The last time I came with my relatives to show the architectural monument and perhaps eat, but we were told “You can’t just look, either order or leave. ” We won't come here again, good luck in business with this approach to people.
It's a shame that a place with such great potential fell into disrepair.

Good place to stay with good scenic view of the Sevan lake. Only drawback is you have to climb a lot of stairs to get to your room.

Unique Soviet architecture and Soviet flair for everyone, who wants to feel into that epoch. Very nice personell, the food is good. A nice location.
However comfort and safety issues. The shower was either cold or too hot. There was a bare cable in the bathroom.

Sevan Writers' House is a.
Unique and striking piece of brutalist architecture set between Sevanavank Monastery and Lake Sevan. (And with unimpeded views of the lake and hills behind it).
I loved it! Yes, the place has fallen into disrepair and the rooms need overhauling — but for location, the views and enjoying a slice of brutalist architecture, it's on its own. It also enjoys quiet as it's not right in the lakeside strip with the bars and resorts.
Sevan Writers' House was designed and created by architects Kochar and Mazmanyan in the 1930s (later sent to Siberia) and remains substantively unchanged from its creation in the Soviet era. (Including the rooms and furnishings…).
It's difficult to describe. Suffice it to say that Sevan Writers' House consists of two parts:
1) a large circular breakfast/dining/writing room, with floor to ceiling windows looking out to the sea, set on a concrete pillar; and.
2) the hotel part, with all rooms having access to a balcony and unimpeded views of the lake.
If you love quirky brutalist architecture and lake views and aren't too fussed about the state of the rooms themselves, you will love this place. If you judge a hotel by the quality of its accommodation (or don't want to walk up multiple flights of stairs), then Sevan Writers House won't be for you.
Breakfast is available for 2, 000 AMD (eggs, bread, cheese, tomato, cucumber, croissant, tea/coffee).

We wanted to stay in this historical place with magnificent view and it would have been 5 stars if the rooms would have been warm, or there would have been proper blankets.
The view, the location, the people working there — everything was nice.
Room was basic, a little renovated, clean, beautiful balcony with amazing views (we even sunbathed there for a few hours when the wind calmed dow).
Staff greeted us nicely, do not expect high end service, it is simple, basic and was good enough for us.
We were the only overnight guests and were given a proper thunderstorm at night, which was amazing to watch through the window.
Few tips:
If your morning starts with a coffee — order breakfast, otherwise you will wait for the restaurant to open a little after 9am to get it, there are no kettles in the rooms.
If you are staying not in July or August, bring warmer clothes for sleeping. Daytime was hot, at night temperature was about 10 degrees and room was colder than outside. We asked for extra blankets, but still slept with pants and hoodies + woolen socks and our noses were still frozen.
Have a dinner at the restaurant, food was basic, but delicious and we liked the lady working there, she was great.
Check in early, so you can enjoy the place.
Unfortunately, we rushed out in the morning, because we were frozen, otherwise, we would have stayed another night.
