Food was shocking! Service was so slow. We were told 630 for dinner service, its 844 and we still havent finished. We are STILL waiting for dessert and coffee! Food that came was awful… overcooked and disgusting. Room window doesnt shut and room is cold. Would not recommend this place.

Right in centre of Bradford across from station. Old Victorian hotel. Large rooms, only real criticism is windows don't open in msny rooms. Especially when warm weather.

I am currently checked into this hotel and I have to say I am extremely disappointed. Having booked a Standard Double Room in a hotel rated 7.9 on booking dot com I would expect a room of a reasonable standard. Room 303 most certainly is way below standard. There are 2 dedicated doors to enter 303. This confused me and I knew it was rather strange from the get go. What kind of hotel room has 2 doors? You walk through one then into another one immediately! … Located at the rear of the hotel this room has originally been an old storage room in my opinion. It’s a tight squeeze to get in with a case and the room temp is extremely unpleasant. It is that small I’ve not even unpacked my clothing. No air con in here it’s awful. The Coffee cupboard is vile, I certainly would not make coffee from there. The bath is badly stained, windows are very dirty and the TV does not face the bed correctly as there literally is no space for a TV to sit properly in here. The window is also wedged open using half of a coat hanger! I asked to be moved room however I was last to check in and clearly been given the “cupboard” … even the receptionist apologised for allocating me this room. They know it’s not a Standard Hotel Room. I have been charged £145 for 2 nights in here. Hopefully I will be moved tomorrow evening and compensated for this awful experience. Being away for business with busy working days this is far from ideal. It looks lovely on the website … don’t be fooled!

We held our wedding here on the 16th June and after numerous changes with wedding coordinators and a few mix ups we had our doubts but we have to say when it came to the day Mina our latest coordinator along with Rebekah’s help (who was absolutely marvellous from start to finish) over the last 12 month made sure all our wishes were carried out, the chef dale was absolutely brilliant and his food was outstanding he’s a credit to the hotel he was more than a chef to us he help…ed in every way possible even down to putting a hook in my room for my dress along with his wife who also works for the hotel and gave a helping hand. Our master of ceremony for the day jake was outstanding a young man organising 82 people with no sign of stress just amazed me so polite and helpful also Sarune who helped with things Friday evening through to Saturday evening was amazing she collected me from my room and settled my nerves. Lastly to the young lady Ashleigh mell-evans you was so helpful smiley and funny from the breakfast service Saturday to the evening even collecting our gifts and cards and putting them safe for us and josh our bar man and who also looked after us on our final food tasting you was funny polite and very helpful.
(sorry if I’ve missed anyone out all the staff in between were fantastic also)

The building is lovely but I find the reception staff a bit aloof and “can’t be arsed” Nice decoration in the guest room but we had to cancel our stay last minute as the heating was on full blast in June, the air conditioning wasn’t working and the window was open slightly (to security standards I guess! ) it was way too unbearable to sleep! They had no more rooms available so we had to go home. Our friends weddings was lovely but as for ever going to this hotel again… I don’t think so!

Staff was very good more choice for dessert menu intolerance but the wedding room was fabulous.

My daughter had her wedding there and we found the staff were Fantastic, parking on site is a good advantage, bedrooms amply big enough, the breakfast was all you could eat great value for the price just a shame the hot cooked food wasn't hot other than that I would recommend.

We were married here 10.05.18 and the day was amazing everything we wanted it to be, Rebekah and the wedding coordinator were on had all day to make sure everything ran smoothly, Thank you for all the effort also put in by Gabriella aswell as the kitchen team it didn't go unnoticed. The food was really nice and has restored my faith after a previous disappoint.
Thank you to Claire who also did a fabulous job with the room decor everything looked beautiful and just what we wanted.
The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is because the lead up to the day wasn't as plain sailing as I'd hoped it would be communication needs some work BUT everything was just as we hoped it would be so not going to dwell on that.

Lovely wedding venue for a small party. Good range of beverages. The food served was excellent.

Nice central hotel. Great greeting on arrival from reception. Good value, rooms look a bit tired, but give it a go.

Centrally located with parking and reasonable standard for the price. I would avoid breakfast as it's particularly disappointing, only instant coffee provided despite the capability to make real coffee within the hotel.

14th April. Went for a Murder Mystery evening. The meal took a total of 3 hours to be served. We got our pudding at 11pm! The chicken was served with 2 potatoes and 2 carrots. The fish was tasteless and dry. It was very difficult to follow the actors from the back of the room as the room was obviously over subscribed. On arrival it took 40 minutes to get served at the bar. We have previously been here for a works do which was also disappointing. Will definitely not be going again! Given one star as would not let post without a star rating!

Beautiful decor in the foyer and the bedroom was nicely decorated. Price very reasonable for the service provided. Bedroom was a little cold at night but that was due to the extreme snow at the time. Buffet breakfast was pleasant, but did not retain its warmth very well. Would definitely recommend this place.

Very expensive for what you get, wine is very overpriced for what it is. Rooms are nice though but not enough food put on for breakfast.

A team day was organised at the Great Victoria. We used a large conference room, refreshments were served in the morning and afternoon, and a buffet lunch was served. The conference room was ill-suited to our needs. The stage was of modest height, and consequently only those sat on the front row were able to see the bottom third of the images protected on the screen on the stage. Refreshments were served in the hotel lobby. At those times the lobby was VERY crowded. It occurred to me that if I were a guest at the hotel, I would have found any interaction with the front desk at this time to be very difficult. I had to check six toilet cubicles before I found one which was (1) lit, (2) had a working lock and (3) had a coat hook. Two out of three was not good enough! I need to do physio exercises due to back pain. The receptionist was unable to offer me a private space to do this, I ultimately did my physio in a semi-secluded public area behind the lift shaft, visible to anybody using the stairs. I had no issues with any of the staff who were professional and courteous at every interaction.

Just attend my brothers wedding … most enjoyable. Highly recommended. Lovely venue. Staff and the meal / buffet was lovely x.

I went to a Michael Buble tribute act and it was not very good at all, well it was entertaining but not in the way it should have been. The guy insulted the whole room to start with. Then continued to sing the songs out of time and to offer the mic for us to join in just to take the mic back and continue singing. He sang songs that were not Michael Buble and ended the night on an Amy Winehouse song. We were laughing a lot of the time but at the act and not for good reasons.

The room was clean but was suppose to be executive at the top floor. If that was executive I don’t know what the other rooms are like? Our meal was a disaster! My pasta was stone cold & we ordered some chunky chips but we’re delivered skinny fries! My friend couldn’t eat her panna cotta & my sticky toffee pudding was very dry. The fruit at breakfast was a bowl of tinned mandarins or apricots! I won’t be rushing back I’m afraid.

Modern hotel, lovely decor, fantastic service and very professional staff. The entertainment was very good.

We booked for New year 2017. On arrival we ordered some drinks. The bar maid over charged us and was very rude when we queried the bill. On asking to speak to the manager a customer who was also a friend of hers then assaulted me and wanted to continue it out side. Fortunately friends intervened and stopped him. We had to then go and find the manager ourselves after the bar maid stormed off. The manager was very apologetic offering a full refund and a free invite for us to return on another occasion. After several phone calls we eventually got a refund 2 weeks later but no apology, free invite or refund for the over charged drinks.

Cozy and especially central place.

Although I haven't stayed here yet, I called in with a dead phone whilst in Bradford and asked to borrow a charger for 10 minutes. I was helped by Robert on reception and Laura who was working the rooms that day. They were very friendly and helpful and whilst I waited for my phone to charge, told me about the facilities and special nights that were held at the hotel. I was sold, and on their recommendation, I intend to return for a stay. Great staff. An asset to the business. :)

Rooms are a good size and decorated tastefully. Windows were large but fixed shut so even though there was a balcony I couldn't use it — probably a safety issue though. The top windows would open bit because they were about 8 feet high they aren't very easy to open if you need to. I think my room had recently been decorated as there were dry paint drops in the bathroom around the sink & bath. Room & bathroom were both clean. Telephone handset didn't work in room so couldn't call for room service & TV didn't have an antenna plugged in so was completely useless (although had a DVD player built in — who travels with those these days? ). On the other hand the free internet was fast enough for streaming HD video so laptops & tablets all work great. Restaurant & bar very good, well decorated & nicely kept, decent food & staff seemed nice & friendly which is what you like to see whether you're on business or pleasure. I would happily return again.

I stayed at this hotel on a business visit to Bradford. It was the worst experience I have had in any hotel. From I entered until I left, it was disappointing. I arrived at night after having travelled several hours so I was exhausted. The man on duty at the desk requested that I paid for my stay before I would get a key to my room. I told him that my company had already paid (which they had) and he should check his records. He did a very cursory check and told me that, no, there was no record of payment having been made. I had to pay these funds from my personal account which I was not expecting. As it was after work hours, I couldn’t call my company to get them to speak with this man and to confirm to him that it had been paid. So far so bad… I got to my room, and settled down to what I hoped would be a restful sleep. Instead, I heard every vehicle that passed the hotel, every move the person above my room made, and in the morning, every alarm and every kettle that boiled! Horrendous! For the entire time at this hotel my sleep was practically non-existent. Worse was to come. My company had only booked me for 3 nights (which was the charge that was taken from my card) and needed to pay for a fourth night. They called the hotel and duly advised them to charge another night on the company’s card that they had left the details with the hotel. Instead, the hotel AGAIN charged MY personal card instead!

My friend and I go for afternoon tea. The food and drinks are of good quality and varied depending on the season. We find the staff very pleasant while we are at the hotel. However, when booking over the phone we often find the staff are a little less professional. More abrupt and less courteous.

Held our wedding two weeks ago at the hotel, to say the original wedding coordinator dropped out without any notice or contact we were very impressed with how Rebekah handled everything, nothing was too much to ask from the hotel staff at whatever time being either reception or food and beverage they were all so very helpful. The food was great at both our wedding breakfast and night reception, rooms we were allocated for the night before and night of our wedding were fabulous. All in all a very special day made extra special by all the staff x.

A bit Faded glory in terms of room decor, but very clean and comfortable, staff are very professional and friendly, and breakfast was great.

Lovely room and building, however glad we did not stay for an evening meal if the breakfast was anything to go by. Very cheap ingredients used of a poor quality the only decent thing was the bacon, poached eggs (done perfectly) and the toast as well as the condiments. We would stay again though as the room was very nice.

Booking and reception was excellent. Quick check in and check out. Rooms were very good plus breakfast was great as usual. Staff very helpful. Plus they have their own FREE car park. Old traditional hotel with a modern decor.

The breakfast was lovely and hot the room comfortably and clean but the wedding meal was terrible overcooked sea bass raw potatoes defrosted cheese cake the stuffed chicken had no stuffing and I hate to think what sauce it was in the staff were good they did there best but the food was understated boring unappetizing and poor if this is the platinum God help the lower ones won't rush BACK.

I stay here very regularly and the staff are amazing, the rooms are always clean and tidy and welcoming. I always feel like I'm coming home when I stay here.

Review from 2014: Stayed here for one night while visiting family members, we attended as a couple. We were given a double room which we paid £47 which we booked through a separate website so we got a deal — looking on the actual website this room should have been £52 however I would not have paid this and would have asked for a different room. Upon arrival I wanted to pay in cash as I already had the right amount, when I requested this they asked for a £50 deposit, not many people carry that cash. So I then had to pay on card which I did not want to do but had no choice. It didn't help that the member off staff dealing with us could not speak very good English and both me and my partner struggled to understand him. When walking to our room we noticed stains all over the carpets in the hallways, large stains that were very visible. We then found our room which at first glance was lovely, a four poster bed, a small TV, a large wardrobe and a lovely little bathroom. On closer inspection the blinds were broken and did not function properly meaning in the morning it struggled to keep light out, windows were not able to open and instead we were provided with a small fan. I then tried to use the bathroom however when I turned the light on it blew a fuse and none of the lights would work, I went down to reception and after a while trying to explain to the member of staff what had happened he sent somebody up to sort out the problem.

Hotel was value for money. Comfortable but wedding parties can be noisy (even though we were on the top floor). Just needed some finishing touches, like soft toilet paper.

Location is ideal, right next to the train station. Rooms are clean and decently sized but had an issue with my bathroom door not closing properly. As the bathroom had a window in it this meant came through at night time which wasn't ideal. The shower was excellent. There was a powercut during my stay although this was resolved within a couple of hours.

Very smart room. Extremely comfortable bed. Evening meal in the restaurant was very tasty and served speedily. Breakfast was not the best I have ever had, but at least there was black pudding and fried bread which you don't always get. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Absolutely terrible. Waste of money & sleepless nights with pipes rattling, floorboards were creaking. Nothing like what its shown in pics. No such thing as privacy… much appreciated housekeeper cleaned our room BUT came into our room without our permission. We wasnt even informed someone would go into our room… The bathroom was disgusting. Defintly would not recommend for anyone whosz planning on staying there for more than 3nights.

Lovely looking hotel and the staff are really helpful. Very comfortable bed and everything nice and clean + handy location. Great breakfast spread too! I did have a room with some noisy pipes but the staff were happy to assist in moving me to a different room. Thank you very much, I would definitely stay again.

Cool, plush room on the 4th floor. Breakfast was good but the bacon was very badly cooked, very fatty. Aside from that I liked it.

Reception and staff were lovely. Room clean but needs a refresh. Bathroom very clean and shower was amazing. Windows a bit dodgy to open but all in all a pleasant stay.

We had a Ball to celebrate our 125th year of providing treats for underprivileged children on the 17th October 2015, brilliant night, measures as one of the best dinners at such an event, certainly no shortage of food on your plate. Well done all the staff for making Bradford Cinderella Clubs celebratory Ball such a huge success — Terry Pearson Trustee Bradford Cinderella Club.

This place was really a disaster — rooms looke nothing like the photos. Mine was very down — stained walls, broken windows, bathroom fixtures barely working, noisy pipes at night. Wi-Fi connected, but never actually worked over 5 days of trying. The gym is a stinky basement rooms with 30 year old equipment. Skip the supposed charm — go somewhere new where things actually work.

More things were wrong with our stay in this hotel than right. We were there for 3 nights, and if we hadn’t felt confident that some effort would be made to fix the fixable problems, we would have requested a move or contacted the booking agent to have us moved somewhere else entirely. The lift was broken. From the signs up next to reception, this has been an ongoing problem and is unlikely to be fixed anytime soon. The front doorbell is broken and the doors are locked after midnight. Signs on the door instructed us to call a UK mobile number. We would therefore have to place an international call in order to get into the hotel. Again, this has apparently been the situation for quite some time, and the night employee responded to our protestations with an unimpressed, “That’s too bad. ” The shower was broken. We didn’t notice this until we arrived back in the middle of the night. The temperature dial was completely broken off, and the water was scalding. We tried to adjust it by turning the plastic bit that was still there, but it did nothing, so we had to take baths. In the morning, we consulted the desk clerk. She suggested that the manager could come set the temperature, so that as long as we only turned the shower on and didn’t touch the temperature, we should at least be able to shower. She also said she would arrange that perhaps the door could stay slightly open the next night.

I had a great stay, the room was clean and stylish, and the food was great. Great value and very helpful staff.

I have stayed at the Great Victoria on and off for 5 weeks on business. Staff have always been friendly and helpful and the rooms are always clean and comfortable (and good value)! Great gym onsite too. Throughly recommend as one of the best hotels in Bradford.

Probably only 4.5 stars really, but as I can't give a half it would be more likely to fall into the 5 star rather than the 4 star. It's an old place that has been revamped with quite chic and quality up to date fixtures and fitting and it works very well. If you look a bit closer however at the windows, doors and plasterwork it does look a bit tired, but none the less it was a very pleasant stay with a very comfortable bed, good shower and good food. The staff were polite, helpful and courteous. We have stayed here on several occasions and will be happy to return. It is great value overall and we have had some very good 'weekend' offers in the past.

It appears to have had several refurbishments, none of which were perhaps completed. But it's clean, well equipped and the restaurant is awesome. And there's limitless free secure parking which makes most of Bradford look silly. Yes, maybe not top notch but good. Avoid wedding parties though as the staff can't handle all of that and you. Staff by way usual suspects but helpful. Negotiate a rate rather than use the web.

I am quite capable of writing scathing reviews when I need to, but I would gladly rate this place higher if it was possible. It is my gem of the year. The Great Victoria is a Victorian Railway hotel in the centre of Bradford. It has been brilliantly and subtly modernised — retaining many original features but with the addition of exceptional design touches. The communal areas are relatively spartan but not entirely — there are interesting objets in corridors and alcoves. The bedrooms are really interestingly updated. I've stayed three times now and been in different rooms on each occasion. Each one is equipped with the essentials but always with a flair. The main room light might be a chandelier; the bed might be a contemporary four poster; the furniture is often matching leather bound, though last night I had a lovely red-velvet covered sofa; the bathrooms use the space well and, where possible, are refurbished without being stripped of some original features such as beautiful black and white tiles or a enormous sink; other rooms may have completely new fittings (again, last night, I had a superb bathroom with a massive, modern two-person bath (no end and freestanding) as well as a huge walk-in shower with a rainfall head. There's fast free Wi-Fi in every room, as well as a Freeview box. (I think one reviewer didn't use the controller properly so thought there was only one channel!

The hotel itself is very nicely presented, and as the name suggests is a refurbished Victorian hotel from the 1800's. My first impression of the building is positive and from outside it's a far more attractive prospect than the nearby and more expensive Hilton which is housed in an ugly 60's/70's facade. Though my interactions with the staff have been minimal, they have been efficient and polite when called on. At times I couldn't find a staff member when visiting the bar and restaurant, despite the hotel being very quiet during my stay. There is a gym, though I didn't make use of it during my visit so am not best placed to comment. My room was reasonably spacious and clean, with the only disappointments being a lack of TV channels with so so reception and some dirty looking blinds in my bathroom. In general given the price of my stay being significantly less than other nearby hotels I was pleasantly surprised. I would certainly consider staying here again were I visiting Central Bradford.
