The below are my two emails sent to management regarding my unfortunate experience here on my birthday weekend. The manager emailed me back and pretty much said he had poor internet and wait until Thursday for a response. Also unsatisfactory. I also communicated a late check out and was badgered by a total of 4 people and a phone call. I'll never book here again through third party or otherwise. First email Unfortunately my birthday trip has hit a downward turn. The security guard Ricardo berated my guest and I at the bar upstairs. He demanded we leave the premises after we had been sitting waiting for the bar to open. 3pm is falsely advertised on the website, and we arrived at 4:35pm. At 4:50pm the security came up and was very rude and as a guest having been staying here since Friday, we never received any covid instructions about checking into to the bar which Ricardo pointed out someone should be fired. He ruined my birthday and then tried to explain it away after being combative and rude. I am completely disappointed with this experience on the last day of my trip. There had been private events all week and it was my first moment at the rooftop. Ricardo is a very rude person and also was rude in delivery to a guest named Tye the same day. Please recommend something to remedy my experience. I'm all ears. I enjoyed most of my stay but this completely ruined it. Second email Additionally after spending almost $500 after being disrespected by security.

Room was clean and comfortable. Check-in and check out were super easy. Staff was friendly. Location was great!

Date night was amazing, the view from the bar and they had a huge TV screen so we can watch the game. It was an awesome experience definitely doin it again.

Rude racial discriminatory staff.

I left a shirt in the closet of my room and placed a call that same day. I never received a phone call back, and when I called the following day, the manager was rude and completely useless. Clearly they either didn't care about the request or a cleaning person stole the shirt and didn't report it. don't stay here!

Rooftop and quite hotel in a very convenient location for Soho and Tribeca.

Hated Lazy Point around the corner, this lobby bar was perfect and accommodate our group for a farewell get together. Too bad not many got the change of venue text.

I've stayed at Hotel Hugo a couple of times and had an equally pleasant stay both times. The area was a little barren for New York's hustle and bustle but I welcome that! It's nice to have a little quiet where you can have it in such a busy city, but it was hard to get friends to come and have a drink at the hotel's rooftop bar, which is busy and crowded especially on weekends. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, and my partial view of the Hudson was cute. The minibar's selection was great, the bed was comfortable, and the one time we stayed around the Christmas holidays the lobby was cute and festive. The adjacent restaurant left a little to be desired, it felt like it was trying very hard to be upscale and chic, but was bridge-and-tunnel at best.

I did not stay at Hotel Hugo, but I would love to one day! However, I did visit their roof top! It is beautiful, amazing views & great staff! Hotel Hugo has seating indoor & outdoor incase of inclement weather. If you visit, you must grab a glass of Sangria during happy hour. They also have some delicious small plates.

This Hotel deserves 0 stars! First and last time staying in this place. First, I got there with my kids and my husband at 3:15 and the room wasn’t ready, ok… no big deal. We went to look for something to eat while the room was ready. They called me at 4:15 to let me know the room was ready for us, 45 minutes later. The room was nice, small and the beds are really small. The temperature in the room was out of control, too cold or too humid! We end it up sleeping with no AC. Front desk people are not really helpful, specially if you ask them for information about the area. Not very nice. On the next morning, around 9:30 a. M, the housekeeping was knocking at the door repeatedly and she opened the door. Excuse me?. Another thing is that the shower wasn’t working properly, we took a shower with a pool on our feet! The bathroom was flooded and we had to dry it out with the towels. Finally, we went to have our included “continental breakfast” which is not worth it at all, that’s not a breakfast! I’m sorry but that’s not acceptable! This is the worst hotel ever! For the money I paid? I should of listen to the reviews but I wanted to try it because it looked beautiful in the pictures but I’m very disappointed. Oh, and this is not a kid friendly hotel. You can’t go to the rooftop because there’s a bar and if you have kids, of course they can’t go in there, so we couldn’t take a look of the view from there.

Disappointing if you’re not new to the whole rooftop thing.
Place reeks of Vomit on the second level roof to the right with the best views. Very picturesque and cool vibe but that smell was Permeating everywhere and for $17 a cocktail that is not something anyone should be subjected to don’t know if it’s a recent thing or what. I had to cover my face while my friend downed her drink. I hope this review does something about it. Wouldn’t go back until they bleach the entire place spray some febreeze and get real plants. Yep, The plants are all fake — fake bamboo really not that difficult or expensive at $17 a drink (in plastic cups) to get some bamboo in there.
Now after reading some of the reviews I have to watch out that my card isn’t over charged for tips. I left a $1 on my card for the drink. Will show up there personally if anything goes in that direction.
That’s the only reason I’d go back to this place. Gross and trashy. Can’t even believe I stayed in there for the amount of time I was there — can’t even believe I drank from cups with a place that smelled like that — it’s really really bad. I was walking around the city all day doing my work I just wanted one nice place to treat myself… and I get that.

This is definitely the one of the best hotels in Soho. The overall look and feel is very modern. The staff are very helpful and polite.

Stayed last night. Went to use the stairs trash and nasty water and smell and In there garbage all over. Rooftop bar way over priced for a a half a drink. Room ok. Paid for a room with. View. Got a room with a view of another roof top. Horrible.

The rooftop bars have incredible view of both Manhattan and NJ skylines. The service was wonderful, drinks and food we're great.

Hotel Hugo is a lovely little boutique hotel with staff who bend over backwards for guests. The rooms are small, but functional and, most importantly, are clean and quiet. Because it's slightly off the beaten trail it isn't as sceney as a W, Ace ot Acme. It's reasonably costed and has become my go-to for work-related visits when I'm going to be in midtown or lower Manhattan.

The hotel is very nice and the lobby is beautiful with a big green wall of plants. The Rooftop Bar was very nice, a little small but very nice. A little expensive but you're paying for the views and the company. Would recommend to visit for sure.

Awesome little cute hotel. Great greeting on front desk and concierge. Wish I enjoyed it more. My host had a super loud friend who would not shut up on second lol… I mean like a cassette on rewind in the tape player. I had a terrible headache that day and couldn't fully enjoy anything around. But I want to visit again to check it out.

Hotel hugo is no longer a hotel with a rooftop bar, it is now a rooftop bar with some rooms. This was my second time at hotel hugo and the hotel has now definitely become second in the fight between whats most important. I would suggest a good tidy up, some cleaning wouldn't go a miss, and lifts that are not overrun with rooftop bar guests or staff so you can get to your room or go downstairs quicker than 20 minutes. My husband tried to use the stairs from the gym upstairs as the lifts were busy and they were filled with rubbish and boxes, one door wouldn't even open into the stairs as they were blocked. It is such a shame as the staff on the door are incredibly friendly and warming. Try harder hotel hugo.

Amazing Rooftop and vibe. Great views, great drinks. Had a large group of people and they were more than accommodating!

The view from the rooftop bar and the space overall is great. The drinks were ok, not great. It was busy so some cocktails did not come out well.

Very good location Rapid Response to eventual problems.

Earment extra fees when checking out! 114 dollar … That was never the talk! Staff unable … Doesn't respond to emails (we wanted to swap the room) … Room very small and noisy … Room service is constantly knocking and waking you outside despite sign … It would rather not recommend it!
Update: After we had done the right theater at the check out and then spoke the manager as a 3rd interlocutor, the facility fee was no longer asked. It might have been a misunderstanding with our (German) booking platform … The fairy … But is still very ridiculous — at least for the German right (feeling) … Just because there is a fee on the homepage somewhere, the component of the contract is far from being put into the contract!
Emmissing I would continue not to have the hotel, but it will certainly go worse … Hence 2 stars!

Incredible view from the rooftop bar and happy hour every day.

We were a couple during this Easter week and we liked it very much. The room is a reasonable size, the staff super friendly, the neighborhood is quiet and the Metro is about a 10 minute walk. What we liked the most was the terrace that has spectacular views especially at night, with a DJ DJing and happy Host from 17 to 21 every day. The only one but we put it is that the Wi-Fi was not going too well but everything else a 10. We recommend it!

Decent hotel great location. The hotel itself was ok. Small as any hotel in NYC. Good service for most simple things (we didn't ask much). Shower was quite nice considering small bathroom. But walls were thin. You can hear every conversation outside clearly. There was also construction going on during our March 2018 visit. Which lead to very loud morning noise starting at around 7am. Without the construction I feel. This location would be ideal as it is close to great restaurants but it's also away from bars and drunken noise.

Amazing rooftop bar and a killer vodka martini. We celebrated my beloved friends birthday here and we were all so happy.

Great spot tucked out of the way. Good vibe and decor, nice sized rooms. No elevator congestion like other hotels. Room could use an office chair but otherwise excellent!

From the minute you enter the lobby you feel welcome. The vibe is so positive. The staff very accommodating. Rooms are New York size clean and well stocked.

The rooms are usual NYC size but note that it depends on the side of the building you are on. I had a east-facing view and my room was the size of a dorm room. A friend was facing west and her room was twice as large. Amenities in the bathrooms were great though and the hotel bar is a small but great spot. Room service (for breakfast) leaves a lot to be desired but the restaurant experience is much much better and tasty!

Absolutely perfect! Gorgeous view of the Hudson. Every… Single… Member of the staff… was warm, inviting, attentive, and made you feel special. I cannot believe the service and attention we received in the roof top bar. We felt like rock stars. Superb. I never want to stay anywhere else in NYC. Thank you!

I spent a couple of nights here while my apartment underwent renovations. Awesome, chic rooms with great beds and amazing showers. Would highly recommend if you can afford it. Keep your eyes peeled for Hotel Tonight prices.

Hotel Hugo was great. Nice, fresh modern decor. The TV could be bigger and a redesign of the shower would allow for less leakage, but these are not showstopper issues. Would recommend.

Lovely hotel, great staff and rooftop bar was amazing only issue being there was only one toilet between two floors in the rooftop area which is nowhere near enough. Great area to stay. Would absolutely recommend.

Amazing drinks, but the food was ok. I expected the place to have the open top roof… but it didn't have that, but overall the view was great! We had a great time.

Phenomenal Spanish-themed bar! Great views of the water. Comfortable couch seating. Lovely ambiance.

We came here for New Year's Eve in 2016. The rooftop is nice and has good views of the NJ side as well as Manhattan and the freedom tower. The space is more on the smaller side and there is only one bar. I wouldn't recommend coming here again for a NYE party, but definitely worth it for drinks during the summer.

Roof top is nice I really liked the venue it got to late to go back home so I checked in for two days they give me our cards for our room. Everything good until the next morning I get told that my card got declined every though the money got tooken out the night before when they gave me the card. And then I'm there talking to my bank they asked me to get some information to clear things up but manager insisted talking to my bank instead of me. Just made me feel like I did something wrong.

Rooftop bar view is amazing, but that is the only good thing Hugo has to offer. Cons include tiny rooms, overpriced food and drinks, sheets feel like sandpaper, water pressure in the shower is terrible, and the mattress was so old we might as well have been sleeping straight on the box spring. Wouldn't recommend or stay here again.

Awesome rooftop… get there early before sunset if you want a seat. I personally think Thursdays are the best night… perhaps it's because of the DJ who spins great beats.

The person managing the elevators going up to the rooftop told me there was a 30 minute wait, even though it was a Tuesday and my friends were already up there and confirmed the place was fairly empty. People who came after us were ushered in promptly. My wife and I were dressed well and were very polite, our best guess for being treated this way was our brown skin.

Spent 2 nights here. Hotel is lovely. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Great location, rooms were clean and updated. Hotel bar is nice and rooftop is beautiful. Would definitely stay here again.

Drinks served in plastic glasses. It also fails in giving a hipster look, it looks crappy instead. The views are amazing though.

Good location, accommodating staff, comfortable beds and nice rooms. The elevators are somewhat unreliable, so best to stay on a lower floor.

Clean and contemporary. Friendly staff, gorgeous rooms. Great view from rooftop bar, but bar was crowded, loud, and seemed more like a college hang out. Downstairs restaurant was fabulous but average food.

Hotel Hugo is a hip modern spot neatly tucked away in Manhattans Lower West side. It features a rooftop bar that overlooks gorgeous views of the Hudson River. Rooms are spacious with all the necessary guest go toes. The bar restaurant on the main level is lively and delicious.

Good service, clean and well sized rooms. Breakfast is good. An excellent choice.

Well designed boutique-style hotel in the heart of SoHo. Rooms are complact but well laid out, with high quality fixtures (walnut, concrete and marble) and have everything you need for a great night's sleep.

Went to the rooftop for a drink and I was impressed. Panoramic views of the city can't be beat on the West side with views of the Hudson and iconic NYC building. The drinks are strong, but standard NYC pricing. Windows will open in the summer.

Fantastic new hotel in NYC. 5min walk into SOHO shopping and 15mins to Little Italy food mecca. Amazing and accomodating staff… epic resturant on the ground floor (best in room Lasagne I've ever had) and drinks of high quality. Bed is comfy and room very well decorated. New roof top bar/pool opening soon and when it does expect this place to be very hard to book. I would highly recommend and will return.

We are a family of 7 frequent travellers currently staying in the hotel and be warned that this would not be a good choice if would like rooms to be located close to each other. After reading some mixed reviews on trip advisor we took a chance on this new hotel and booked deluxe dbles and notified them weeks in advance of our request to be placed on the same floors and for early checkin since we were arriving from a 23hr journey. We also pre requested for sufficient towels to be provided for the number of guests. Unfortunately NONE of the above was prearranged. We had to call front desk housekeeping several times and even the TV was disconnected n A/c settings unusual. They find trying to place us on a same floor most challenging as our room types are not available on every floor. Perhaps a note to management that this should be made known to guests during their reservations so that they can avoid dissapointment and wasted time. However the location is good and quiet and the hotel bedding comfortable. The Front office staff are warm and helpful. They have also have an excellent concierge called William.
