Enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Staff was super helpful. It’s right in the middle of the city so we didn’t hang out in it all day. Not the fanciest places it could use a remodel. Service elevator is really slow so that’s a heads up. Very chill about smoking of any kind. Also the soda machine on the second floor has a cheapest 20oz soda you’ll find in the entire city.

Tons of space, conveniently located. It's a budget option — — coffee wasn't great, the continental breakfast was basically cereal and toast, and it's obviously older. But the rooms were huge — — basically a two bedroom apartment without doors, which was much appreciated for a family of five traveling in SF. Oddly, the furnishings were very spare — — as if designed for rooms half that size, but they were functional, and having a sink, a fridge, a table, a bathroom, a separate sink, a living room, and a bedroom was very welcome for a family in a city. Walking distance from a ton of good restaurants, good coffee houses, and the public transit system with parking included made this the perfect home base for a family on a budget.

Not an extraordinary experience. It's going to be a step. Very noisy because of the big traffic Lombard Street and very bad sound insulation of the motel. Basic breakfast.

Manager is a jerk. Came at us with all kinds of bad attitude. We were forced to load our vehicle in middle of parking lot because parking spaces are tiny. We were blocking other cars but wife was in car waiting in case someone needed to get out. Keep in mind, he never even gave us a warning, he just started off with the rude behavior.

The minus: it's pretty noisy day and night, there's a lot of crossing the street. The breakfast is average and there is only one table (not practical when everyone decides to go down at the same time) and the rooms are average.

Room small and old but comfortable and rather clean. No window in the bathroom. Low light. Very functional equipment. Rather thin walls. Friendly staff Continental breakfast. Rather small room on the other hand. Very good for the price, I recommend.

Clean bed and bathroom, was able to park every day. Stayed for 5 days total, amenities were exactly right for the price (>$100/night for non-smoking king room. ) Proximity to bars and restaurants are great.

Was some issues with the keycards, but the staff was very helpful with solving the issue. Very limited breakfast options, either serial or some bread with jam.

Dirty room, bathroom dirty black joint vmc makes a lot of noise, no insulation between the entrance door and the outside we hear the cars pass Alor that one is on the third floor, very noisy air-conditioned bedding very old one sinks into the mattress, Hair stuck on the wall and ceiling of the bathroom for $150 at night it's unacceptable plus it takes you $200 bail without doing a state of the places on the way home but it makes one before the short party I do not recommend it at all I have pictures to support.

Clean and cheap with parking included. Service friendly. Rooms are dated but tidy. Breakfast is included but basic. Value for money is good. You're close to good eateries and public transport but not in walking distance to the wharf. This was ok for us as we spend all day out and about only sleeping and showering in the hotel.

Very bad hotel does not have many vacancies for cars! receptionist is not friendly with visitors and the shower is not very well. But the room is well.

Motel in perfect location and neighborhood full of life. Very Basic But for the price paid goes more than good, obviously do not expect the Italian standards.

For the price it's great. Accidentally booked smoking room through Expedia, but they allowed to change to non smoking despite of higher rates. Breakfast is nothing fancy but at least something. Wifi was fast.

I stayed here when I visited San Francisco. Off the beaten path but close enough to the touristy stuff. The hotel isn't a 5 star hotel by any means but I would rather use my money for the touristy stuff and not for a room that I use only to sleep in. The owners were nice and I didn't feel like I was in any danger. Plus there are some great local restaurants within walking distance, so that is that as well. :)

The room was clean and bed was comfortable. This is a very simple room. Our room was VERY small. Good price for the city. I would come back if it was a one night stay.

Aged motel. Lost Wi-Fi the first night and there were no bath towels (did provide when asked for), didn't realize I had to plug in a. C. For it to work. Does have a flat screen with a easy to navigate channel guide. Breakfast was toast, cereal, or oatmeal.

Look, it's not the Plaza. You know what you're getting yourself into. This place is fantastic for what it is. The rooms are clean, the AC works great, there's a hot shower, cable TV, a comfy bed, AND a mini fridge. The staff is helpful and friendly AND there is city parking. It's a gem. If you're looking for a reasonably priced room for a couple nights this is your place. If you want to be pampered look elsewhere.

Tried to call this place to get a quote. Only said one sentence which was something like, "Hi, I'm booking through priceline, and just wanted to make sure there really is a room available, " and got hung up on. I've booked online before, and had a bad experience where the room wasn't available when we arrived (different website, different hotel). Tried to call again multiple times with no answer, and there's no answering machine. Can't even be bothered to answer a couple questions, so I can't imagine what their costumer service is like if something went wrong. Definitely won't be booking here :)

Rooms are a little outdated, but part of the charm for an older motel. staff very helpful with using public transportation. Warm and welcoming.

Enjoyed the stay, great customer service (Al), everything was clean and in good condition. It's in the city, so expect reasonable city sounds. We walked to Fishermans Wharf and back, but it's a good walk, so check if the distance is good for you.

Place was just okay. Looked like it hadn't been updated in a long time. Made the mistake of accidentally getting a smoking room (my fault, but gross). It was relatively clean for the age. Biggest complaint was a/c wouldnt work initially, and then barely worked. Also the shower was terrible. So little water came out that I didn't feel I could get clean. Didn't even bother taking a shower the last day there. Long story short, lesson learned, dont be cheap when getting a hotel in the city.

The location is close to everything, didn't have to use our car once if you're up for some walking and getting the cable car passes. The rooms are simple but comfortable, and is respectable for the price. The Wi-Fi is also pretty good.

Motel is not bad for what it is. The rooms are a decent size, but the bathrooms need more lighting and the towels the provide aren't very big either. I would say they are almost child sized. The free breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't call a loaf of white bread, a loaf of wheat bread a toaster and instant oatmeal breakfast, but for free why complain too much.

The only reason this place gets a one star is because the room was decent and the ac was on point. But the staff was reason I subtracted four stars. First of all, check in time is at 3PM. I got there at 3:30PM and they said my room might not be ready and to please be patient while it gets cleaned and bed sheets put on. I'm totally okay with waiting a few more minutes since it was a busy weekend. I waited until almost 4PM to get my room. But when I checked out, we asked to check out a little late and they said okay but I couldn't go physically to check out until 1230ish because of traffic. The second I walked into the managers office to check out I was greeted by rudeness and I was like okay. First of all, don't ever yell at customers. Second of all don't accuse people of having more people in the room when we did not. No where did it say I couldn't have friends over and they all left. So assume all you want but you didn't even bother to ask us the full story. Never coming back and do not recommend if you expect them to give you lenience when they ask for yours but do not return the favor.

Even though hotel is as little older, everything was great. AND A GREAT VALUE! Room was clean, staff made every effort to make our stay nice.

Thankfully, I ended up having a great place from which to launch my explorations of San Francisco and the Bay Area. The beds were comfortable, the room service tasty and fast and the front desk very helpful.

The Surf Motel is good. The ambience and décor were good. The front desk was well informed and also very helpful. The rooms were good and clean. The beds were cozy. We will be staying here on our next visit. We'll recommend to everybody to stay here.

Good hotel in a fantastic area, great for the gay market. Area felt very safe, and there were lots of nice places to eat in the vicinity.

I really like this motel because it's very quiet. The personnel don't put up with loud parties, or horse play. I feel very safe here. The personnel are always very happy and cheerful to serve the guests who stay here. See you all again.

This is the best place for the price! Good size rooms. Perfect location! Parking is good, and reasonable. The staff are the best. They totally make sure everything is right. We'll be back, next time we're in SF.

I stay here every year twice, and each time I get a service that is top notch. The front desk, housekeeper is always friendly and down to earth. I will definitely keep coming here.

Stayed overnight in SF by Fisherman's Wharf. Nice clean room close to everything downtown. Bar 200 steps away and food even closer. Would stay again.

I chose this rating due to the service we recieved from employes. Although the blatant prejudice and disrespect we received while we stayed the room was excellent for the price that we payed. The cleanliness of the hotel was a disaster, upon the return to our room, the service of the housekeepers was awful.

We chose this hotel because of the price, not expecting much but hoping for a decent bed and shower. We got that and more! The room was great, the bathroom large and efficient. I did not know what to expect. I got an unbelievable rate, so I thought it was going to be a dump, but I tried it and this is a nice hotel. The staff was always friendly, and the room was clean. Breakfast was good. This was a steal! I will be back.

This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel in a month. It is a great location in the heart of San Francisco close to everything. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but clean and have all the necessary items including a nice flat screen TV. The beds are very comfortable so I woke up well rested. Considering how much hotels go for in this area, this is a good value.

This was my 10th stay in 2 months. I will always choose this hotel. They are always nice and courteous to me and my fellow veterans. First class service and comfortable room with comfortable beds.

I was 2012. I can only recommend! Hip on Hip off bus tours just in front of the Motel. Good price, great location (right in the middle of it) you can actually all of the Hotspots on foot. Golden Gate Bridge, fisherman's Warf and Lombard street. Restaurants, Bars, etc the same in the parallel streets (Chestnut street). And a big kudos to the staff! I'm going on my next holiday there again descend!

I love Surf Motel! Everyone is very friendly, the help desk is very accommodating and the rooms are very clean. The concierge service was very helpful as well. All in all great experience. Highly recommend.

Love it, stay there every year. Its in an excellent location. Sure its not top shelf material as far as high quality this and that. But it has everything you need at a good price. Hands down best location of a hotel in SF. Clean and comfortable. Walking distance to everywhere. Bars, restaurants, shops, etc! Parking is easy if you drove, and the staff is really nice and courteous. Next time I am in the area, this is the only place I will consider staying.

The perfect stay in a really nice location. It was clean and the staff were friendly. Parking on site and. Wifi was patchy a times, but it wasn't an issue. Really cool spots to check out close by, though most do close early around this area. I would definitely stay here again; very affordable too.

Good place to stay when visiting SF. One of my friends recommended this hotel to me and my friend. We Stayed 4 nights in a double room (2 double beds) the rooms were clean, spacious and up to scratch. The hotel is in an amazing position located near the nightlife of choice. I will definitely stay here on my next trip.

I stayed at the Surf Motel with two girlfriends for 4 nights and we have a fantastic time. The hotel is pleasant and clean and the staff were friendly. I organized the trip at the last minute which meant I had to squeeze in with my friends and the hotel were very accommodating and didn't charge me an exuberant amount. I wouldn't stay here if you were after a "wow" hotel but it really has everything you need.

The hotel was really peaceful. No problems at all. Soon as I walked in I was greeted and helped with pleasure. Housekeeping came before 9 am. Nice, clean and friendly.

For the money, you cannot beat this place. Not the newest, not the most modern, but the friendliest and the best value. Have not been the least bit dissatisfied in over a dozen stays. Every effort is made to accommodate their guests. No problem getting a sound sleep.

I really enjoyed my stay there. Nice staff. The room was clean and had all we needed. It may need a bit of an update in the bathroom, but besides that, all good. Clean and comfortable, had good sleep, and it's in a very good location. The area is very safe even at night! Lovely restaurants and bars around.

AWESOME! I've been here about 5 times already. At the very least, 4 times. For the price in comparison to other hotels in the area, this is a great place to stay. Price is right, rooms are clean and nice and the staff is top notch; warm, friendly, welcoming and accommodating. This is the place I stay at when ever I'm in the area and visiting my daughter and will continue to do so.

Great location for a simple little motel, don't expect a whole lot of extras. You will, however, get a clean room and friendly staff. Fairly priced for the area, I've stayed here 4 times now and each time I have had a great stay.

A double size bed so worn out that I could actually feel the springs poking me. There was mold in the bathroom sink, counter and shower. The room smelled of smoke. Extremely small thin towels. The maid came at 8:12 in the morning. I don't appreciate that while on vacation. I asked to change rooms but was refused. When I complained to the manager she asked me if I wanted to fight her! Crazy. Horrible experience. I checked out 5 days early. There was no nightstand because the room was sooo tiny. Horrendous.

Really, overall, it was a fine room, esp for the price. Had some "reservations" of our own after reading some of the online reviews, but Chamber of Commerce said it was a fine hotel. We thought so as well, and we will stay there again when in area. We were impressed with housekeepers — they did a great job. We'll see you again in San Francisco one of these days.

Simply wonderful! Upon entering, the hotel seemed very comfortable with friendly staff. Check-in was fast, and breakfast (free) was GREAT! Can't beat breakfast service and value.

We were very happy with the service given us at this hotel. The desk attendant gave us the type of room we asked for, we wanted it very quiet, and he did as we asked and we were very pleased. The housekeeping staff was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay.
