DO NOT STAY HERE I wish I could give this place negative stars. The rooms smell like urine. The urine smell is so strong it'll make you feel sick. There are electrical safety hazards like uncovered outlets. The bedsheets are stained yellow. The towels are stained brown. The windows are absolutely filthy with dust and grime and mold. The mattresses sink like 10 inches. I left within 15 minutes and stayed at a Holiday Inn instead and didn't get any of my money back. I had to spend an hour getting the smell out of my clothes and my hair and skin. It is absolutely disgusting that they are allowed to even remain in business with such an unhygienic environment. The way it works is these booking companies like Booking. Com have thousands of hotels that they book for. And many of these hotels are not actively monitored so they get away with this. Stay away from this place. Do not let them steal your money.

Comfortable place. Awesome elevator. Only complain is that the windows cant be open to get fresh air and no air conditioner. Besides that I love its old place feeling.

Great location, even tho parking in the street is not recommended, the are some expensive cars overnight. Hotel partner offers parking for 25$ a day (probably with provision, but this is a good price for central SF). Generally clean, soft beds, room service works good, friendly reception. Rooms have fridge and TVs. Some surfaces and windows need cleaning the dust. There is free morning coffee and tea, nothing more neither less … it's something. Old smell is typical for "cheaper" SF accommodation. Would stay again.

Budget hotel that has the basics and convenient location! Staff was polite and helpful. The elevator is ancient so is very cumbersome to get in and out. I preferred to take the stairs which are also narrow winding and aren’t convenient with luggage. They provide luggage storage. Coffee/tea only is free from 7 am for couple of hours. Hotel Reception is on second floor. You have to buzz in at the first floor. Room had goof Wi-Fi, fridge, and microwave. If you are on a budget and want to stay centrally close I would suggest this place.

One of the strategically located 2-star affordable hotels in downtown SF… some rooms even have a bunker/double-deck bed!

Great location, nice family running the place, and everything is acceptably clean. It feel like classic San Francisco west coast.

Generally a decent spot. Very centrally located, Friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again. One piece that should be corrected, there is no continental breakfast. There is free coffee. A no frills place is what I expected so, Not a big deal one way or the other. Very economical compared to other rates I saw this week.

So far, so good! We've been here two days and the room has met all expectations for the price we paid. The first morning we had maps, shuttle info, and fresh coffee waiting for us and today we were happy to find a pizza place and market within walking distance. It's a no frills room but it's secure and comes with no nonsense. Perfect place to crash for GDC.

Muggy room… No a. C, no concierge… Elevators r difficult to get in to if u have a stroller. Etc etc.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights in a room that shared a bathroom/shower with one other room. It was surprisingly convenient, although the restroom was down a long hallway from our room. The room was clean and spacious enough for the amount of time we spent there. There wasn't control of the temperature in the room aside from being able to open a window and turn on a ceiling fan. The staff were very friendly and helpful during check-in. The Mithila Hotel was what one could expect for the price in a hostel-ish lodge.

This hotel is good if all you want to do is use it to sleep and bathe. There are steps to get into the hotel, and stairs inside to get to main level. There is a lift but not sure if it's available for wheel chairs etc. The room we were in was small but had all we needed. Inc fridge, microwave, tv. Bathroom had bath with shower, hand basin and toilet. All toiletries included. As I said at the start, if all you need is a bed for sleeping it good start for exploring San Francisco.

Very nice place. It is something old but very well preserved. Very good price and the location is fantastic!

No no breakfast included there is no desk in the room either. There's very little space. It's got a microwave and refrigerator.

I guess it was "good enough". Rooms are clean, all usual services are provided, check in and check out are fast, the location is pretty good, staff is friendly. While Wi-Fi is not up to my standards, it is usable and probably "better than average" in bay area. Not so good sides: 1) Not exactly quiet — and not because of the location — the refrigerator in the room was unusually loud. 2) Power outlets layout is weird — probably planed when usage patterns were very different. Like to use your laptop on charger in the bed? Forget about that. Want to put your phone on the cabinet near your bed, and charge it overnight? Forget about that too. But hey, there are power outlets near the leg side of your bed, and right over the microwave oven in the opposite corner of the room. 3) Bathrooms are tiny. So tiny that it does in fact hinder the convenience.

Good place for a 2 star hotel, clean but very small rooms. For my room, storage compartment was smelling bad but otherwise it was good. Have good room service.

Hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the Moscone Center. Very old building with very small rooms, but good service, polite staff, and fairly clean. Wouldn't mind staying there again, but will probably look for a place a little closer to the conference next time. Room had free Wi-Fi, a fan, a microwave, and a mini fridge.

Cheap and cheerful. Not too far from city center and Market St.

Small family-run hotel in a great location. The staff are hospitable, helpful and pleasant. However, the rooms are really filthy, dirty and unpleasant. We can not recommend this hotel, even for one night, unfortunately.

Clean and functional, no-frills, somewhat small. Friendly front desk staff Complimentary coffee, aromatic smell greeted us daily. Fridge wasn't plugged in and we couldn't find the cord, but housekeeping helped us the next day. Basic old-fashioned tv, no cable. We'd definitely return. (Papa Johns across the street, and deli next door. Walk 4 blocks to Polk St for a block of varied restaurants. Amazing breakfast at New Village Cafe. )

Although staff was very helpful and caring, the hotel was poor. First room we had was unattended, there was lot of dust everywhere — bed sheets, carpet, window covers, everywhere. So we changed it. Second room was clean but bed was very bedded. There is no complimentary parking, you need to park at parking lot nearby for $25/day.

Good inexpensive place for the business traveler of someone on a budget. On vacation with the family… not so much. Rooms are clean, but old and show it.

Fantastic little hotel in the heart of SFO. I slept like a baby in the bed. Great little neighborhood diners in the are when you feel like eating cheap. Papa John's across the street. Me likey …

Mathila is a great place to stay for the price the bed was cimfy enough and blankets wete clean bathroom was also clean and TV was up to date. The walls are a bit thin and there is no ac but in a nice part of san fran for that price theathila is a great deal.

I had a bad experience, what we found when we arrived was not what the images portrayed on the Internet when we booked the reservation. We had no air-conditioning and the TV did not operate correctly, with limited channels The oder in the room could've been improved with plug in scents. The bathroom tub did not drain at all. The bed was the worst, very uncomfortable, very noisy for me. The final nail in the coffin was we had to pay $30 for parking which was a block away with limited hours of operation. Our comments are in hopes that you'll improve for further reservations for others, but for us we will not be back.

Friendly service rooms could he a bit cleaner.

We booked a room for 4 people and a double room, and because we didn't put six people but only 5 people in the initial booking, only 5 people can stay in the room! What a nerve! If you pay for rooms with space for six people, six people should be able to sleep in this room no matter what the booking said, we paid for those rooms and not for the people the amount to pay stays the same!
Don't go to this hotel that's such a unpolite hotel, really worst experience ever, this is not a hostel where you pay per person!

Great location within Union Square and most of the attractions! The hotel has a Southeast Asian vibe and they give out complimentary wine around 5:30pm, although we did not partake. The rooms are on the cozy side but super clean with cute furniture. The only thing I didn't like was the price of parking — around $40 per night and valet service is super slooooow.

Offered a 3 bed room on a booking site. Turned out to only have rooms with two beds. A normal and a queen size one. The discounted parking they offered also dident work out, so we had to pay 60$ a day somewere else.

Convenient location, the hotel is very clean and the stuff is nice.

The shared bathroom was pretty clean, so it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. But the bed in a room for 2 was just a full, it wasn't comfortable, and there was no air conditioning. The place isn't terrible, but you get what you pay for.

Stayed here in November 2012. In summary, if you just need a pillow to sleep on, it's dirt-cheap. Beyond that, it was a fairly traumatic experience. Musty room (this was the absolute worst part), bed was not comfortable at all, and the bathroom window was propped open and couldn't be closed. Unless you really REALLY want privacy while staying in SF on the cheap, I cannot recommend this place. At all.

I can't say anything bad about this place. They were very accommodating and helpful. We only needed a place to sleep for one night and take a shower. Because most the day we took a tour of San Francisco. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Prior to my trip to SF I read the comments on this hotel and found it peculiar, that it seems to be a hate it or love it thing, reviewers either giving 1 or 5 stars. Now that I'm back I can understand both sides: I do understand why ppl where disappointed, by it. I slept under blankets with holes in it, drank the really weird, hot, black stuff they gave away as 'coffee' and kinda wondered about the funny smell. If you are looking for a nice, best-western-style hotel with your whole family, don't choose the Mithila. It is not a hotel. It's more like a hostel. BUT: If you are planning a trip with your pals or your s/o and you are in your mid-twenties, it's fine. The guys at the counter are really nice (and really seemed to do everything they could). The hotel is well located, only a couple of blocks from Powell St. (Yeah, cable cars! ) and Polk St. (Yeah, beer! ). So, after reading all those super negativ or super positiv reviews, just think what you are looking for in the place you want to stay during your trip to SF. Next time I'm going to SF I know I'd choose it again.

Stinky hotel. Bad election for the price.

Do not waste your time and money on this crappiest hotel I have ever seen. Your life is more presciouse rather than being waste on this hotel with their rude crew. Just pay 20 box more and stay in a better place. I have been in many countries and many jotels around the world this hotel is the dirtiest and with the most unprofessional receiptionists. They are checking you in while they are in their pijamas and they are RUDE. Rooms are full of mosquitos. my advic. You deserve to be in a better place Mazi.

Surprised to see the good reviews, this hotel has steadily gone down hill and I felt like I was getting ripped off. The hotel front desk manager is polite only until something is amiss, ask him a few questions or attempt to report a problem with the room and he will kindly tell you to "go find another hotel". They were expensive, in the lower 200s per night for a single bed but don't have the quality or the service to match. The rooms are not just old but also inhospitable. I can't say too many people stay out of choice. Bottom line, don't look for customer service and don't report a problem or you will be met with threats to be thrown out (they know you can't go anywhere else for the night and will use it). They're in it for the SF tourism business and hiked up their prices even though the service or the room conditions can't match. This hotel is nowhere as good as it used to be based on the reviews below.

The hotel is right in the heart of San Francisco — walking distance to many places. It's an older hotel, but that's what gave it charm; I could just picture people coming here in the 20s and how elite it probably was then. The room had a huge window with great views. Just a very cute place. Would stay again.

This place was fucking horrible. We stayed with my friend for 2 nights. I woke up on second night because of something crawling on my body, turned on the lights — and it was fucking bedbug! I killed at least 20 of them, while waking up 6or8 times that night. The "curtains" were pinned to the wall with 3 pins. And it was 92 bucks for a room with double and twin! shite.
