The beds are kind of wobbly. Comfortable, but they shake when you move. And the breakfast is pancakes that you have to make everyday. But okay for the price.

I opted this hostel for a one-night stay in the month of January. The stay was pleasant. The rooms were clean and smelled good. The staff were really helpful in clearing my questions related to sight seeing and dining. I recommend this hostel for budget travelers.

No frills but clean, quiet and reasonable. Stayed in a private room. It wasn’t the kind of place you chill all weekend but it didn’t have that price tag. Awesome location. Common areas could be a little bigger and well maintained.

Good budget hostel The plus point is the location, it's very near to Union Square Amenities are good.

Good location. Rooms are what you pay for. Good service. If you just need a bed to sleep, this could work.

This place is cool to stop in for the night. Great price, laundry onsite, historic. The staff were not friendly, I wouldn't really say they offer a free breakfast, and the cleanliness of this place could be improved.

Couldn't say enough about this place! Super fun and affordable way to stay! We had a total of 5 girls so we had a private room with 3 sets of bunk beds. Met some awesome ppl there including one guy we snagged outside of the hostel & took to Alcatraz with us! Such a great time we had! Next trip we will definitely stay here again!

To be Hostel is very good. Breakfast is half bad. You have to cook the pancakes and there are always people.

Very central. Of the cheapest thing you can find all over San Francisco. The price is fine. The hostel is a bit old and smells pretty weird in the common areas, but the room was clean and well. I don't think it always happens, but when we were there, we left things in the fridge with our name and they caught us.
The breakfast offered by the hostel is dough for pancakes, coffee and tea. You can also take extra towels and blankets if you need them. The rooms are very well provided with plugs.

The cheapest hostel in the bay, Super Central and close to everything and very good restaurants.

Zero stars the woman on the phone could not be bothered letting me know her rates for the night. Kept telling me I have other things to do then tell you are rates. After some arm twisting I got the four bed dorm price but she would not tell me the rest said she was too busy to be answering my questions.

First of all the design of the living room & kitchen downstairs are a huge eyesore. The bedrooms are creepy and outdated by 100 years it looks like. There's a leak in my bedroom that causes the floor to be constantly wet and it stinks but they don't bother closing it to fix the problem. The beds are comfortable but the bunk bed frames are horrible and shaky. The shower hardly works. They put me in an all male room, one of my room mates kept making rude & sexual remarks and they wouldn't change my room. This place must attract the worst kinds of men because I got attempted to be hit on multiple times which hasn't happened at other hostels. There are stickers on the lockers that are frankly just creepy. My room mate joked about organ trafficking, something I thought about was the movie Hostel which takes place in Amsterdam while staying here. The curtains were kinda pretty? I suggest Orange Village Hostel on O'farrell. They're only 35$ a night on most nights it seems like, everything is nice and clean and they may be strict about who they allow.

Super cool place, I love the open areas, the kitchen is very nice. There are lockers in the rooms, but bring your own padlock. Free Wi-Fi. The bathroom in my room was so nice. And the price is so affordable.

If u need somewhere where sleep and u are not picky picky this hostel is good, their are nice and looks clean, but there's people living there!

Staff were a little brisk and had to be pressed to give extra information. However the room was adequate, and the location perfect. The social life was a little bit lacking, but overall surficed for a hostel. Has all the necessary amenities.

Only for solo travellers… A dungeon hostel, poor cleanliness and please mention that there is no breakfast. They just keep pancake batter. You can prepare pan cake if you want to. The kitchen, hall and room everywhere is tidy and smelled stinky and fecal.

Who wants to smoke grass is right here. At the entrance is smoked pot almost round the clock. Hostel is ok though.

I will write it in Spanish, the room is fine the only thing I do not like Esq say in the booking announcement that breakfast is included thing that is a lie, breakfast is not included what is included is the kitchen to make you breakfast.

Not too bad, you get what you pay for. The beds were surprisingly extremely comfortable and you get power extension cords by your bed to charge your phone close by, so that was cool. But don't make reservations online, or else you'll apparently have to pay the reservation fee twice, I dunno what was up with that.

It's a good place for the price you pay. There are things to improve like the Internet and the kitchen. The common spaces are various and comfortable.

The Wi-Fi is so bad that you can say you don't have it. The computers are lentisimas to the point of almost not being able to open more than two or three tabs of Chrome to the see. It says you have breakfast and the only thing you get is the mix to make pancakes, siroup and a horrendous filter coffee. The beds are folded and close the kitchen quite early. On the other hand, the attention of the receptionist is very good, the general atmosphere very warm and the overall state of the Hostel very careful. The area in which it is located is central, very close to everything. The washing and drying machines are excellent. It is cheap within the options that are in the city and the neighborhood.

Great location but very modest hostel, old, worn carpet everywhere and cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. There is the possibility to prepare the breakfast made with coffee and pancakes in the morning, they offer the use of the common kitchen.

Quite old hostel, but does the job. Stayed in a 4-bed female dorm which had its own bath room. Staff was very nice. You can arrange a shuttle to the airport for $13 which was well worth it.

It is a hostel. Come with that expectation and you will be alright. That means random people in your room that may or may not decide to turn on all lights at 3 am and take a long shower. I also had very considerate roommates. Very friendly staff, access to a decently large kitchen. The Wi-Fi kinda sucks, especially during peak times. The available computers have good internet though. The roooms vary greatly, I stayed in 301 (small and not very clean) and 404 (really nice bathroom and larger room). A big plus is the bathroom in each room, definitively preferable over showers in the hall. Daily housecleaning, that seems to miss quite a few spots. There is a laundry room available for usage after 5.

Great location, nice prices and the staff was friendly and helpful. This is more like a backpacker's hostel. The facilities were good, clean and well maintained. They give you breakfast, which is coffee and you have to make your own pancakes, which is not a problem since they leave the dough ready, so you only have to do the cooking. UPDATE: I came back after 2 years and the place is still nice.

I've stayed at many hostels but never been treated so badly before than at Amsterdam Hostel. Many people were left stranded for their dinner when staff locked the kitchen early and refused to let people get their food. San Fran gets cold but you'll only receive a very thin blanket, good luck asking for something warmer. The showers leak and bunk beds are very old and rickety, which makes sleeping in dorms difficult. Overall, I would never recommend this Hostel to anyone.

Worth what it costs… right price… building a little dated but still decent…

Convenient to get to with the Bart, cheap and in a great location to visit the center of S. Francisco!

Very low price but absolutely justified. Modest rooms with bunk beds of 4 beds (if you are in less than 4 you will have roommates). Bathroom without window or vacuum cleaner. Parking Service not reliable (on arrival they said "Oh, it's full, sorry, look for another"). Kitchen available to cook yourself breakfast. Security lockers are available In the room but you have to bring your own padlock. Suitable for adventurous youngsters who want to visit the heart of S. Francisco at Little price.

The rooms were and bedding were clean and the bunk had a decent mattress. I had no problems during my short, one night, stay at the hostel. It was just unfortunate to be the last person assigned to the room and have no choice of bed and have to put sheets on the top bunk in the dark when everyone was already asleep at 10:30 pm. Usual annoyances of sleeping in a dorm… snoring, sleep talking, loud packing at 4 am, couching all night. The streets surrounding the hostel have free overnight parking until 9 am. This was a bonus.

It is the worst experience at the hostel I've ever had. Attention to passengers simply does not exist. The front desk staff speaks more English and neither intends to understand my English pauperrimo. Its infrastructure is deplorable but in relation to its price it is OK. Nearby is Adelaide hostel which is mad expensive $10 but another experience. Do yourself a favor and don't think of this place as an option! I's sure never return!

Good value hostel in San Francisco. Rooms aren't cramped and all have an ensuite bathrooms. Staff was accommodating and there is an enormous kitchen for cooking. Breakfast is simply do-it-yourself pancakes (big pot of batter next to the stove). Close to the Powell st. Station and Union Square.

The manager was exceptionally rude. A fairly clear problem of my grocery shopping been thrown out by cleaners was not resolved. LABEL YOUR FOOD! You won't get that advice at the front desk… Otherwise fine.

A good hostel with a chill out area by reception and another bigger one, with leather chairs, in the basement. Free PCs use, but access to the USB plugs is blocked. Breakfast is basic, the kitchen could be arranged better and there wasn't much of an social atmosphere. Lastly, some (maybe all) rooms/dorms have bathtubs which is a nice bonus, but you need to bring your own plug (I have a universal plug).

I stayed here for 1 night and that was really more than enough for me. The hostel is definitely dated and so is everything in it. When I took a shower I noticed there was mold/mildew around the tub caulking. I had another reservation at another hostel a few blocks away and considering their pricing is the same my new hostel out shined this one all the way.

The employee at the front desk was helpful and friendly. The building is pretty old, but we had our own private dorm room for the 4 of us, with a private bathroom. The sink was in the common area and not the bath so that was odd. It's located within walking distance of many restaurants and sights. Overall not bad for a budget room, but you should temper your expectations.

It's an ok place. Rooms are spacey and all of them have a bathroom with shower. Towels are free, staff is quite helpful and polite, and location is ok. Place is a bit pricey for a hoatel, but compared with the rest of San Francisco it's cheap. Breakfast really could be better: the only free things are coffee, milk, tea and DIY pancakes. It's not BAD at all, but… could be better for the price. At least some cheap cereals, Jesus… The place also has nice activities organised, like pub crawls or gourmet nights out.

It's OK OK, if you want cheap accommodation and comfortable stay in SF you can aproch the place. Staff is helpful.

Good location, great price. Room has a bit of a smell but you get used to it in a minute. The rooms are spacey, clean and have bathrooms. However, the keycards are fidgety and easily demagnetised.

The Hostel itself is very dirty. Our room smelled like someone peed on the carpet. They also made a big mistake and in a room of 4 they ended up with 5 people and when I addressed the issue they didn't really do anything. They told me to move another persons' stuff and take their bed. I had to go look for our roommate to tell her about the issue (note, not the staff, I was trying to solve the problem) and turns out that she was told in the morning to NOT switch the rooms when she KNEW that she had to do so. Then, the guy wouldn't refund her 10$ key fee, because she turned it in late (which, again, was their fault) and had her pay another 10$ for another room key. We also lost a hoodie in the kitchen, and when we approached a staff member for a lost and found box she just said "it's right there" (which I could not find) and although I asked her multiple times where it was, she would not get up to show me where it was. We did not find the hoodie, so I left my phone number in case they did. About 10 minutes after we left I realized that I might of left my water bottle in the room. I came back for it and she told me that I left it at a front desk. Yeah, and I guess she didn't care to call me to tell me that. Breakfast is make your own pancake in a small kitchen with 20 people. The beds and linens were clean though. Room had a small bathroom and a shower.

Unsafe place to stay. "Climb on the drawer to get up to the bunk bed" they said! the beds don't even have rails. We saw the room. Ten minutes later, asked for a refund minus one day. They couldn't do it. The "manager" is ever available to talk about a refund. Never calls back or anything. We just got a room somewhere else even though we paid for couple days here. Thats how bad it is. I don't want be racist but people like these make me one.

The cockroaches in the kitchen bothered everyone. There you can make your own pan cakes and its unlimited. The Wi-Fi is nice. And they have an entertainment room where you can watch a movie.

Better than expected u can't expect much for such budget Nice staff, spacious, convenient No elevator and only pancakes for breakfast.

Double room with private bathroom: bad matress and there is no door between the room and the bathroom, other than that it was a fairly good hostal.

Disgusting, racist, prejudice, and discriminating staff. I will boycott this company and their affiliates such as the Green Tortoise. Totally inhumane, and what nightmares I experienced being there. It reminded me of the movie series Hostel haha.

Very poor hostel. The room cards didn't work so had to continually go back to the host. Staff were rude and tried to give us a $90 charge for having some friends round. Rooms are tiny and wayyyy overpriced Stay somewhere else.

Nice staff, kitchen (breakfast is coffee and pancakes), rooms are okay. I shared it with 7 others. The bathroom/restroom was in our room so you dont have to share it with everyone on that floor, that was nice. location is good.

Well yes… clogged toilets, not very clean hallways, broken outlets, hanging curtains, and then closed kitchen at 10 pm!
The prices are more expensive and frankly for having travelled in hostel ( (I have 48 years) and well this place is not at all terrible.

Stayed 6 nights. No soap provided for sink. Moldy washroom ceiling. Dust caked on to inoperable ceiling fan. No ladder for bunk beds. Linens removed (as cleaning process) without warning. Sink and tub clean. Would not stay again.
