The wine hours is fun, but we were woken up at 5:30 am by noise below.

Central area, a bit old in style and not very large rooms but in cities like San Francisco it's not that you can ask for more for what they ask for at night. The biggest flaw turns out to be the breakfast that is not in the least up to it.

The breakfast was great. The decoration and furniture very elegant. Every evening the hotel offers the guests wine and some snack, plus free soft drinks and water during the day. Definitely we will recommend this hotel. The only "negative" thing I could say it is that I had to go to the next hotel door to do the check in and check out because there is not a permanent receptionist there. They should improve this.

Really enjoyed our stay. Ryan at reception was great, helped us out with our bags and had them delivered to our room for us while we went out exploring. Great location, nice interior, the lounge is lovely and cost. Definitely be back.

Not bad for its price and location. Some issues with the door lock not opening but was fixed when you ask at reception. Complimentary breakfast has fresh fruit but other options are lackluster. Room was clean and well maintained.

It was a nice hotel/ bed and breakfast style place. The people working there were super friendly and the rooms were small but nice. Great location to walk but if you have a big car parking is a little pricey and hard to find.

Such a great little hotel! So very kitch and cosy. Everything was so well presented. Clean. Effortless experience. Little touches like fresh coffee 24 hours a day, complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres at 5pm, fresh cookies as well as a tasty breakfast really made the experience surprisingly delightful.

Next to White Swan. Smaller and quieter. My room was lovely, on the fifth floor, newly renovated bathroom, fireplace.

My parents stayed here when they were in town to visit me. Staff was very friendly and my parents loved the stay. It happened to be a strangely hot few days in the city when they were visiting. No A/C, but staff provided a fan and helped create a cross breeze in their room. Great service They also had happy hour with wine and cheese on the house! (Maybe for the heat wave? ) a great way to forget about the weather and enjoy the stay. They loved it, and were able to meet other travelers at the happy hours while I was tied up at work.

A hotel with charm and an exquisite breakfast, location excellent in the centre of the city.

The place is very nice and staff is friendly. The hotel is unique and small, very classical. The decor is very old, so people who aren't into modern, standard hotels would love this place. The staff is friendly and very nice. The rooms are small but cozy, and since you won't be in the room much it doesn't matter much. The place seerves a nice small continental breakfast. It's not a huge breakfast but it taste good and is good enough for someone not looking for a 5 star brunch. They have a wine and snacks hour from 5 to 630. They put out one red and one white, and they usually put out enough for everyone. It's pretty nice and the snacks are decent too! The only two negatives I had about this place are that while we stayed there, the one old timey elevator was broken most of the time, and that the walls seem thin. Therefore if you have someone in adjancent rooms you'll be able to hear them pretty easily.

Cute place, super friendly staff. Theres a bit of a persistent moldy smell, if you're into that sort of thing. Really a nice place to stay, just a tad run down.

Given the great location, for $240 per night (October 2017 on a Monday night), this place is overall a good deal. The room is small by modern standards, but that's to be expected given the age and location of the building. Also, I'd call this more a "hotel" than a B&B. That being said, there is a basket who was finally and helpful. The breakfast is buffet style and more along the lines of what your get at any chain hotel offering breakfast. Nothing at all special there. The staff was very nice and went out of there way to be accommodating with restaurant suggestions, directions to the Amtrak courtesy shuttle (anything you can get for free in SF you are wise jump on — nothing here is inexpensive, especially the transportation), and the biggest bonus is that they let us store our luggage there during the next day after we checked out, so we could still the city unencumbered. I only deducted 1 start because it was 90+ degrees on the day we arrived, and the room was uncomfortably hot. I understand most places like this don't have a/c, and it was unseasonably warm when we arrived, but to compensate for this occasional happenstance they really need to install ceiling fans in the rooms (and I'm sure it's not that rare for it to get hot).

Super reception, well furnished rooms, free Apero with wine every day, very good mood.

Stayed here when it first opened at less than $100/night, including huge delish buffet breakfast on outdoor brick patio. Room was very small for 2, but OK. Don't remember if shower was small or large… When new, was very clean and very welcoming. One of our favorite romantic visits to SF from working in Yosemite; She made me promise never to take anyone else there. Now, over $200/night on weekends! Wonder if the breakfast buffet is as large and as delicious?

Good boutique hotel for the money. ($164 net for a high vacancy weekend night) Nice breakfast and evening wine and cheese. Staff friendly and helpful. Good location in Union Square/Nob Hill neighborhoods.

Quaint, French country hotel. Small rooms. Wonderful staff. Decent breakfast each morning. If you like modern/chain hotels… this isn't the place for you.

Walls are thin and you can hear people walking on a creaky floor above. Very hard to fall asleep with that happening all night. I was on room 33. Had a much better experience at White Swan Inn next door.

We loved our romantic stay here. We would love to come back. We stayed on our honeymoon and they made us feel extra special. The breakfast was like nothing to have had at a hotel before. The rooms were quant but not old and dusty looking. The elevator is great for pictures as is the whole place. The location is nice too, not too far from fun places to go. We would love to go back!

The hotel has a distinctive style and a pleasant atmosphere. The room was comfortable and really enjoyed a fireplace that it had. The breakfast was rather basic (e. G. No vegetables at all), but good. There was a complementary afternoon wine reception, which was a great chance to meet with other guests. Staff was very friendly. Really enjoyed our stay.

The staff here is amazing. Daniel is one of the nicest human beings I've met in San Francisco and a pleasure to talk to. The supervisor was also amazing. The rooms are how hotel rooms should be: perfectly sized and an attention to detail. The White Swan and Petite Auberge will be my home when I'm in San Francisco.

Pro: Characteristic and in excellent position. Cons: Certainly not cheap, however at that price I was hoping for a slightly better breakfast. Internet Wi-Fi a little slow on the 5th floor. Ps: A little more courtesy to breakfast not hurt…

Lovely hotel very well positioned within SF and very friendly staff. It's a little dated but that's the style they're going for. Ignore the people who say it's dirty it's very clean just everything is well worn, like you'd actually get in the old French hotel this is trying to imitate.

Good for short period of stay.

Excellent little hotel with friendly staff and great breakfast. Room was large with nice furniture and a realistic looking fake log fire which is nice for those SF spring and summer days. Only downside was lack of A/C. Would visit again.

Very pleasant stay, a setting back in the years past, very friendly staff and the breakfast very nice, the evening gathering with wine, chesse, fruit, coffee a big plus.

Authentic and cosy but in old building which comes with natural limitations (which I found acceptable). Breakfast could be a bit richer — but that might be because of the French' light style. Well located with walking distance to China Town.

We have been staying at this hotel since 1990 and have always been happy with any of the queen size rooms however this last wk we booked the 'delux king' for our 3. What a disappointment — this room which faced toward Bush — needs a badly needed upgrade as it was dull and lifeless. Fortunately we were able to switch to the White Swann king room — it was wonderful — what we would have expected at the Auberge. The staff at both places were great, food great and location great.

We stayed three nights at this hotel and it was wonderful. The room was charming and comfortable and the fireplace was so very and cozy. The staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was always delicious; usually a different kind of quiche each morning with an assortment of breads and fruits. The happy hour, wine and an assortment of fruit and cheese later in the day was a nice treat before we went out for the evening and it was fun visiting with the other guests. Our stay was delightful and we can't wait to go back.
