Clean unit, friendly staff.

The guy in reception is the best for service the others need to learn. Rooms are tied, beds need changing, view is fantastic, location is the best. Will stay again.

Room was a bit old and rundown but still clean and location was perfect.

I’ve stayed at royal harbour many times it’s so close to everything that’s wonderful about cairns. The management are extremely helpful and accommodating. It’s extremely clean and comfortable. I highly recommend it.

Quirky retro appartments, old, but very clean and well maintained. Great location, walk everywhere in town.

The perfect location, friendly staff, easy place to base ourselves for a week.

The location is fantastic with great views of the water. It is also very handy to the CBD. Unfortunately the kitchen is not that well-equipped, the knives provided for food preparation were blunt.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a great place to stay while in Cairns. In the middle of everything you need. Clean and comfortable rooms. Hope to have a chance to come back again in the future.

Great location. The room was nice and clean and had everything that we needed Except the Wi-Fi was so expensive that we didnt use it. Bit dissappointing. This is our 4th time staying in Cairns and the 2nd time at this hotel. We didnt want to leave and come home to NZ. We will be back. Hopefully something is done about the Wi-Fi Desk staff are very helpfull and nothing was a problem for them.

Location was perfect, right on the beach, room was big enough with a nice spa, service at the desk was vwry helpful.

Great location but needs a few things up dated. A fan in bedroom area. TV and remote passed use by date. Bit daunting walking in to see spa/shower looking into living area. Should have towel changes. Not be expected to use same towel for 5 days. Plus make sure you book direct as no free Wi-Fi if you don't. I got it wrong. Thought Breakfree was part of the Mantra group?

Just spent 5 nights here. The rooms are not overly flash but are more than comfortable and very clean.
We had a balcony room over looking the ocean with views that were to die for!
We had an issue with a TV which rectified very quickly.
The location is absolutely perfect and the staff very incredibly friendly and helpful.
There are builders working next door but we were not bothered as they didnt seem to make noise until after 7.30 and we were already heading out for the day. No builders working over the weekend!
We would not hesitate in returning here or recommending to friends.

A great location is this premises only redeeming feature. It's very, very uncomfortable, outdated, in desperate need of paint job, and poorly or cheaply equipped. The focus isn't on the guest; it's on cutting costs. The reception foyer welcomes you with an over-powering stench of pungent air freshener. We got caught out, so be warned! The website does not reveal that rooms are UNSERVICED, unless you stay 8 nights. But if that day falls on a weekend, tough luck; you'll have to wait until housekeeping return on Monday. We found a tiny note in our room advising that you get a 'starter kit' of coffee, tea, toilet paper, soap & detergent. It's barely enough for 2 days, so you'll need to source your own supplies. And wash your own towels, and dry them on an inadequate rack outside. There's no dryer. Too bad if it rains. And don't forget to wash up when you leave, or you'll be charged an extra $25. Oh, and you'll need to take your garbage to an absolutely disgusting, foul smelling refuse chute in a dirty cupboard on your floor. The kitchenette is very poor by today's standards; it's inadequate if you're staying more than a few days. The circular, clear glass shower provides everyone in the living area with an open view of the bathroom. For privacy, you'll need to carefully position the mould stained shower curtain. There's no exhaust fan in the bathroom so the place fogs up.

30 day stay. Good location, but I would not recommend this hotel. The good: It was in a great location. The room was big, the shower was nice, and the patio was great to sit on and relax. The TV was nice and new. The table and 4 chairs was good for meals. There was ample closet space. Big living room area. Nice to have a mini fridge and washing machine. The cleaning staff was always very friendly and accommodating. Having air conditioning was nice, it worked well. The bad: Upon arrival, we were told we would be taken care of, given how we were staying for a month. This never happened. The reception staff were not friendly and did not take care of us in any way shape or form. The bed was uncomfortable and 2 singles pushed together (crack in the middle). The walls were so thin you could hear your neighbours sneeze and hear animals all throughout the night — it sounded like all the windows were open when none were! (bring ear plugs). The washing machine was not good, do not count on using it (it left some of our clothes damaged and not clean). The "ocean view" room was a huge let down, you could see a tiny bit of the ocean from the patio yet it was more expensive. The cooking utensils were not clean, we used plastic ones. The kettle was filled with black gunk (gross! ). It will be difficult to cook your own meals, as there is no stove (just a hot plate and a microwave). The couch was not comfortable. The walls had many dents, marks, etc. And needed to be painted/cleaned.

I checked in yesterday and the receptionist is lovely and the garden apartment is in a nice setting. As I am a member I asked about the free will wi fi but because I booked through Agoda I wasn't entitled, fair enough. The cost of wi fi is a massive $25 per day for 1 gigabyte so of course I didn't purchase it, I stayed at Trilogy last week and they charge $10 but gave it to us free anyway (part of the same group). When I booked the room for myself, my daughter and my grandson, I was offered a king bed and a sofa bed, the king is fine but I slept not on a sofa bed but a roll away which is so hard it is like sleeping on a tiled floor but not as cold. After a night of very little sleep, rather than complaining this morning I thought I would just make up the sofa myself and it would be fine but of course the sofa bed is broken and that is why they put the roll away in. When I did go and complain this afternoon I was told that the sofa bed was broken a couple of days ago and a request has been made to the unit owner for it to be fixed or replaced but unfortunately they couldn't move us to another room as they are booked out. They also couldn't help me with a softer mattress for tonight, it will have to wait until housekeeping arrives tomorrow. I will tonight sleep on the 2 seater lounge, which will still be more comfortable than the roll away and my second request for free wi fi was granted (thank goodness I didn't pay for it as the signal is weak and it drops out constantly.

Location-great! Room-great but bed moves around even just rolling over, needs breaks Service-main desk helpful, towels smelled of cigarette smoke, painting done during day making room smell of paint.

This is a fantastic place to stay, great apartments close to everything, great pool, comfiest bed!
The staff were the best! Always happy and helpful.
I would actually say it's the best place I've ever stayed.
Oh and the shower was so good I didn't want to get out! All this and very reasonable price.

Great receptionist! Estée I think her name was. Sorry if I got it wrong. So friendly and welcoming. Nice tidy room with everything you need for a self contained stay. Awesome view. Perfect location. No noise noticed from surrounding area. Only negative is lifts with key operation is a bit dated.

FANTASTIC location. Across the road from the esplanade and lagoon! I love the salt water pool and the outdoor BBQ area. The rooms are clean, air-conditioned, maintained, spacious and self contained.

Staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Rooms a little tired but certainly very comfortable — air con was delicious! Could do with a dishwasher — we booked two rooms for family and used the BBQ facilities then had to wash up. However, BBQ facilities were great and the clean up box provided was a good idea. Pool was a little warm and not very refreshing. Plenty of pool towels available though at no extra expense. Perfect location — within walking distance to restaurants, night markets and marina.

My wife and I stayed at Breakfree Royal Harbour in Cairns in early August 2015. We normally stay at Mantra. We knew that this was an eighties building and it is in fact a real period piece with its curved balconies and its amazing curved glass shower recess that looks out through the sitting room to the view over the balcony. This was fun. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well and the chairs were well made and suitable for sitting and reading in. The location on the Esplanade was perfect apart from the cooking smells coming in from the balcony as the Night Markets were directly underneath us. Meegan at reception is a treasure. There was nothing that she would not do for us and is a delight to deal with. The downside was that the kitchenette did not even deserve the name. We are both diabetics and need to prepare our own food. We also get sick of dining out. We were confronted by a microwave with no dishes or utensils, a fridge that froze everything so that it was useless, mismatched cutlery and a plug in two ring hotplate that had seen much better days. When we went to mash the potatoes we found that there was also no potato masher. There was even a sign stating that some fatty foods may trigger the smoke alarms and a fine would ensue so we cooked our breakfast bacon on the balcony so as not to set it off. This is not like Mantra where everything is provided in a proper kitchenette.

We have just returned from staying 7 nights in a Garden View apartment. From the moment we entered we were very impressed with the reception. Meegan was very welcoming and always friendly. What a huge asset Meegan is to this resort. We have never experienced such a friendly person on reception at any other resort. We were very pleased with the view we got from this room as it was only on the 3rd floor and had a private balcony. The location of the resort is fantastic, especially with the night markets and food court on the ground floor and there was no noise from vehicles or night life. Although a little dated and the air conditioning very noisy we will definately stay here again should we return to Cairns. Highly recommend this resort.

We were for a day in this hotel, it is located directly in front of the large public swimming pool on the beach and on the Esplanade. The hotel pool is hardly used, looks like. Must book rooms with sea view! On the balcony, nice view there then. There is everything you need. Unfortunately, it is a bit noisy. Otherwise there is to complain about anything.

We stayed in breakfree royal harbour for about 4 days this december (1st dec 2011 till 5th dec 2011). We had taken one bedroom apartment as we had baby with us. Our stay at breakfree was very good. Liked it. Good spacious room with ocean view from the balcony and we also got a early bird special 89$ per nite!. The location is also ideal on the esplande. We just enjoyed the stay.
