Older style motel currently being renovated Not sure on dog policy although one in a room last night. Bistro style meals all seem great my steak and veggies was good. Will probably stay again.

Ordered dinner for 4 nothing too grand food you can slap up in 5mins; told up to 45mins wait… still waiting for our food 1hr 30mins later…

Food was good, we did have a bit of an issue with meal order mixup but they made it good. Staff very pleasant and friendly. Definitely will eat here again. Good value.

For a tavern, hotel, sports bar that has been around for decades the Balaclava has kept up with the times. Revamped interior with a modern menu, friendly staff and well executed dishes, all at a very reasonable price. Would definitely recommend stopping by here on your next visit to cairns. Keep up the great work.

This is my 3rd stay at the Balaclava and always find friendly staff, amazing food & great atmosphere all around! We will definitely be coming back.

Stayed in motel section. Rooms old. Damaged benchtops, wooden window frames rotted in bathroom allowing any insect smaller than a mouse inside. Bar fridge barely cool. Only cooking facility is a kettle. On the plus side — beds firm but comfortable. Air conditioner although old works well.

Just for drinks following a funeral staff were nice and got us finger food before kitchen open. We were greatly appreciative.

Lunch was great value. Decent meals at reasonable prices.

We were in a rush and they brought the food out in spectacular time! It was delicious and the food portions were big enough that I couldn't finish. Some of the best food I had in Cairns.

Good food, good drinks, great staff and all at a reasonable price.

Plenty of parking and a family atmosphere, great for dinner or function. Live music on the weekends, a great local for a night out when you dont want to go to town.

Really good venue. Sadly they have put up the price of pensioners mezls such that they have now effectively priced themselves out of this market. A pity. Good battered fish, steaks good too.

Went to watch the footy. $10 parmy and pot was sweet. The two fights not so sweet.

Forget the motel rooms, very little effort has been put into anything resembling renovation for so many years they are demolition material. They have to be some of the most basic rooms I've ever seen with old redundant fittings left hanging on the walls or bedside cabinets. The Balaclava Motel is literally a museum of itself.

I've never left a poor review. Lovely waitress however the bar staff were quite rude. Steaks were pretty good however they were underdone. It may have been a busy night but your bar staff really put us off. Would give 3 stars for the food alone.

$10 Parma & Pot Meal Deal in the Sports Bar was delicious and excellent value! Will come again!

Ordered and paid for a feed, went to the bar to get a beer, no chance. I waited so long tvat my food came out and still no bar service. Wont be back. Very very poor.

Used the function room. Clean, great aircon and good food provided.

The steak is cooked perfectly, its probably one of best steaks in Cairns, the sauces are very good as well, char grilled, and melts in your mouth. Chicken parmigiana, absolutely amazing, and a very generous portions as well. It is very busy, and you do have to wait, but it s bistro, and family's come for dinner with children and that is just a part of going out for dinner. All in all, its a great meal, great staff, and a inviting atmosphere. 10/10.

Rubbish steaks for someone who claims they're a steakhouse. My rump was chewy and cold, the T-Bone was far from the specified weight and very thin = tasteless. Lamb shanks were too fatty (even for lamb shanks). We ordered pale ales and got some lager, took them back and they were kindly replaced but the pale ale was skunked and sour. We had no beers. The queue for the bar was obscene, as there was only a few diners. Rubbish. Never going back.
