Lovely hotel and staff highly recommend.

We’ve had a lovely week staying here. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We were upgraded to a garden room which was fabulous. As the name would suggest we looked out onto the garden and had a lovely room with seating and a separate television watching area. The breakfast are amazing and the menu is extensive but basically you can have whatever you want. The hotel has quirky bits as well with some interesting objects for you to look at. All together we couldn’t recommend this more highly!

Thank you so much for the best ever afternoon tea today. The food was amazing and you went to great lengths to cater for my daughters food intolerance.

Just stayed at this hotel with my friend, what a gorgeous quirky hotel it is, but one thing that stood out for us most was the staff, they were all extremely friendly, they went out of there way to speak to us and make us feel very welcome. Anthony made us a lovely gin. We had the Brunch which was amazing. 100% be back to this hotel. What a lovely little find.

The hotel is beautiful the staff couldn't do enough for us the breakfast was fabulous lots of choices cooked perfect we will be back.

Our suite was very spacious in beautiful Instagramic building. Staff is very polite. Old school service. Really recommend.

Beautiful, sparkling clean rooms. Very welcoming and attentive staff. All in all a lovely stay so far. Loved sitting out and chilling in the outdoor hot tub after a grand mouch around York. Just lovely.

Got upgraded from a standard double to a suite room for our anniversary, all staff are lovely and welcoming. We will be coming back here again!

A fabulous weekend with my daughter. The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. Loved the cosy bar area, roaring fire and company. After a wonderful meal here we relaxed with other guests and staff… Such a friendly and warm place.

Had the penthouse absolutely great would definitely recommend. Hot tub and sauna as advertised not very appealing better in summer months.

Lovely old style characteristic Hotel. Large shabby chic rooms with all the facilities.
Staff are all friendly and very helpful. The chap on reception went the extra mile to get me an iPhone charger for the evening.
Had meal in the Restaurant which was also of a excellent quality.
Only downside really was the exterior looks slightly tied with limited parking.
Still would definitely recommend ideally location between the Race course and shops.

Friendly, staff interested in your needs. Polite and caring. Food was amazing, beautifully presented. Generous sized portions and freshly made. We had the champagne cream tea it was delicious and agsin generous and well presented. All this made our stay enjoyable and we would not hesitate to return in the future. Finally the pool/spa area is secluded and a nice bonus on a hot day/evening.

Lovely hotel, full of character. We loved our stay last night. Beds were really comfy & staff were lovely. We enjoyed the spa too. Would stop here again if we ever stop in York in the future. Thankyou for a lovely stay!

What a beautiful quirky hotel. There is nothing to fault about this hotel. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you the rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing made better by all local produce. The spa in the garden is just fantastic the pool was warm even though outdoors. Cant wait to go back would not hesitate to recommend.

Fabulous place … You must get a garden room! Patios lead out to the most fantastic garden with Sauna, Stream room, swimming pool and Hot tub … Rooms are superb and to a very very high standard!

Loved it. Spacious room with tiny salon with a second TV, big bathroom (but window wouldn't close — possibly chilly in winter), separate store room for luggage. Garden full of lovely nooks and crannies. Swimming pool a bit disappointing but great to lounge in the sun. OXO restaurant a bit hit or miss however Julian was superb and sorted things out. The staff were all lovely and breakfast excellent.

Now lovely apartments, my in laws purchased one of these and they could not be happier. Great sea views, the warden keeps the place in immaculate condition. I have also found everyone to be very friendly. The apartments themselves are a mixture of 1, 2 and 3 bed. They are spacious and there is lift access so no trouble with second floors etc. All in all a very nice place to live.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. The grounds are stunning and the bar is so cosy. Will definitely visit again. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much. 5 stars isn't enough. The restaurant is also fantastic and you MUST eat there at least once.

Great Hotel with gardens and a outdoor pool with jacuzzi and sauna. Quite unexpected in the middle of York. Handy for the races. But chances of getting in race days are slim. Fantastic stay. The staff can't do enough for you. Nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely garden room. On a previous stay we had a suite. Both good. Breakfast. All I can say is you won't need anything to eat the rest of the day.

Absolutely faultless stay. Amazing staff, exquisite room, fantastic breakfast and top notch facilities! We really enjoyed the hot tub, and heated swimming pool. Also booked a session (1h30 masaage) at the onsite spa which was amazing.

Wow, what a hotel. Stayed in York on countless occasions and this is the most wonderful hotel we have stayed at. The staff were brilliant, very welcoming, hospitable and couldn't do enough for you. The hotel has so much character, a real gem of a place. Lovely gardens, really nice bar and outside area to sit and relax. The rooms are spacious, the breakfast so nice with lots of choice. Put this at the top of your list of places to stay, it really is wondefuk hotel. Can't wait to come back!

We have just spent one night at hotel, but found the pool was full of leaves, bugs and algae and the only thing that worked was the sauna,, also there was dog dirt around pool and looked like it good do with a good clean. This I can say put a damper on our stay, as we have stopped in spas before and this was a real let on our stay as we were looking forward to a nice swim, but state of pool and other spa bits rotten On a good note staff were nice, hotel itself nice, but manager did not even contact us to say why it was in such a state.

Just returned home after a one night break. Absolutely fantastic hotel. The food is top notch. Friendly and helpful staff. Spotlessly clean room. Comfortable bed. I will recommend this lovely hotel to everyone. The huge garden is so peaceful. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to try the pool but it looked good. Can’t wait to return and try the spa and pool. And breakfast… wow.

My wife and I recently stayed with our 2 Labradors. The staff were really friendly and customer focus seemed all important. The building is gorgeous and retains lots of original features. Above all, it was very clean. Despite being familiar with what York has to offer in the evening, we decided to use the restaurant and bar. It was the right choice. The food was perfect and the locally produced York Gin went down well, before and after. I seldom write reviews, but The Mount Royale deserves all the accolades it gets. I believe it's been family run for over 50 years. The ethos is strong. We can't wait to return. Thank you for your hospitality.

Visited here twice for valentine's Day. Wonderful hotel and Amazing staff! We stayed in the penthouse for our first stay which was huge with great facilities and second time we stayed we were in a double bedroom which was also huge. The customer service is 5 star! Staff can't do enough for you. We went in the jacuzzi and spa both times which was a bonus! Breakfast was delicious which a great range of hot/cold choice. Rooms were spotless and the hotel has a very cosy Victorian feel. Would definitely recommend. Quite expensive but worth it.

When staying in York the Mount Royale is always my first choice. A family run hotel within ten minutes of Micklegate so it's an excellent location for exploring the city and beyond. I have stayed at the Mount Royale several times, I have stayed in multiple rooms and they have all been clean and spacious. The staff are the friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I have ever come across. The breakfast options are fantastic. Lots of cereals etc to choose from before you hit the main cooked breakfast menu. The English breakfast is awesome and cooked to order so it's always fresh. You can change the breakfasts to your own tastes, nothing is a too much trouble for the breakfast staff. The seating area outside is always nice to sit in and eat your breakfast on a hot day. Would certainly stop there again.

Really friendly but not fussy staff and that was from everybody. Large comfortable room that was very clean and well appointed. The food was outstanding including a huge selection at breakfast. Well up to and over two rosettes standard. Easy access to the city and the parks. Not a large hotel so you were made to feel valued and wanted. Would come back again.

I was visiting York for the first time and wanted a warm, friendly hotel — Mount Royale is set in two beautiful historical buildings, covered in ivy, and family-run since the 1960s. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and the breakfast was outstanding — set in a quiet room where you have a selection of fresh croissants, cereals and juices, and then order as much hot breakfast as you like to order — the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were some of the best I've ever had! The room was very comfortable, with a super king size bed and bathtub included, with nice pillows, and a full tea and cafetiere coffee selection provided. The bar is super cosy with comfy leather sofas and an open fire, with a very impressive gin selection. I appreciate that its traditional charm won't be for everyone, but it was exactly what I fancied and I'd give it two huge thumbs up.

Wonderful hotel with gorgeous rooms. We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite and were very impressed. The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive, particularly in the restaurant. We enjoyed a great meal, a few drinks in the bar and a really relaxing stay. Would highly recommend.

Weve just arrived home after our 1 night stay and boy what a gem of a place we found friendly staff who cant do enough for you great food great place cant believe some of the negative comments id read before but I know we will def going back real soon the spa treatment my other half had was just amazing. My partner came back looking radiant and refreshed. Our room was spacious with amble storage for clothes bed was very comfortable… location is only a 10 minute walk into centre.

I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough. Absolutely stunning hotel, beautiful decor. Friendliest of staff. Our room was faultless, absolutely immaculate and so spacious. Breakfast was divine. Had the best massage ever from holly she was a diamond! I can’t wait to come back here.

Outstanding food, good value for money. The venue is a little confused though. A mix of old and modern that don't quite sit together. Music playing while we were eating was strange too, a modern pop / chart mix playing quietly in the background! Honestly can't fault the food or service though.

Really great relaxing atmosphere with good food and drink. Good service. Has a smoking area. We were a group of 14 and were looked after very nicely.

The hotel is located a short 15-20 minute walk from York city centre and on a bus route if the weather is poor. We received a lovely welcome when we arrived and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite. The room was huge and very comfortable. The staff were all friendly, cheerful and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and served with a smile. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting York.

Amazing building, very helpful and courteous staff and exquisite food. All combine for a amazing family run hotel which combines quirky rooms and the old with the new decor styles.

Lovely old style English hotel. The room was massive and clean and the gardens were beautiful. The staff were also so accommodating to our two dogs (the pooches got sausages for breakfast! ). Highly recommended, even just for the welcoming faces.

The Hotel was beautiful we stayed 3 nights, the staff are warm and welcoming. The food at the restaurant we thought was a bit pricey, and opted to order takeaway. The Breakfast was so delicious again staff attentive. The Facilities were amazing we made use of the outdoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, and steam room also sauna would recommend a stay here. I also had use of the Spa situated at the hotel amazing Thai massage they have many treatments available 5* to them also.

Couldn't of asked for a better stay in York, the hotel room was clean quiet and overall a nice room. The breakfast was amazing with a big selection to chose from, the staff were all very friendly. The weather was nice so we made use of the pool / hot tub / sauna all very good. Free parking onsite which is a bonus and only 10-15 mins walk to most attractions. Highly recommend this hotel and we will be back again at some point, big thanks to the owners and all the staff for a great stay.

Impressed from the moment we made a late booking by phone for the Christmas market 92016). The Garden Suite was comfy but the staff are the ones that really make the stay. Passion is a much abused contemporary term but these are genuine people proud of their city and so knowledgeable, enjoying their work be it in the bar, reception or the food. Breakfast is a triumph and on a par with any 5 star hotel anywhere I have stayed in Europe. We will go back again next year and hopefully make it a 2/3 night stay to accommodate an evening feast or two.

Went for a spa session at 5 senses. Very nice and relaxing as well as professional service. Ginger tea very tasty too.

If I had to some it up in one word, it would be fantastic. First impressions, we got upgraded to an executive room, free of charge, and was delighted upon entering the room on how spacious it was. Once I had finally made it round the humongous bed, I got to the dressing room, which was delightful and where they are hot drinks facilities. Upon entering the bath room, I was presented with a well maintained and finished bathroom with separate shower and bath. We decided to go out for the evening, and was delighted in the fact that you are only a 10 minute walk from the heart of York. Unfortunately we didn't get to sample all of the hotels facilities, due to a lack of time but what was most impressive was the breakfast, the most delicious bacon, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs we have ever had. The attentive and polite staff throughout the whole stay was wonderful. I would definitely recommend the Mount Royale to anyone wanting a relaxing and pleasant stay.

Excellent tarragon gnocchi, very rich dark chocolate marquise. Quiet place to eat on an early Sunday evening whilst celebrating a grandparents 90th birthday. Highly responsive staff even found time to cook and construct a three layer birthday cake while the meal was in progress. Top marks!

For the last night of our family holiday and hubbys birthday I booked The Oxo at The Mount purely from reading reviews online. I wanted something "special" but didn't want to worry I would need to apply for a mortgage. We arrived early and stepped into a lovely, tranquil, ordered place. Our drinks orders were taken and we relaxed into the sofas. The staff were all very smiley and helpful. The food was divine. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his birthday "treat" and the bill didn't make me come out in a cold sweat either. Not cheap but well worth it.

Stayed two nights in April. Upon arrival we were upgraded to garden room. Large comfy bed seating area walk in wardrobe/ dressing room and patio doors to seating. Clean tidy nicely furnished. Breakfast great. John the receptionist/barman/everything else man couldnt of been more helpful. Only 5 minute walk to main bars in town. Will definately revisit in summer to take advantage of heated pool. Hot tub. Sauna etc.

My wife and I have just spent four nights at the Mount Royale. The staff made us very welcome and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. Breakfasts were something to look forward to — a tremendous menu and efficiently served with a smile.
